"Something seeks to trick Firefox by accepting a security update. Please contact your network provider and ask for help. »
This message appears at regular intervals. I think it is intended to prevent the man-in-the-middle-attacks who want to give you an update of Firefox rogue.
"Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway" with HTTPS inspection is used in my company. This HTTPS inspection is done by installing a local (CFC) Certification Authority in the browser on the user's computer and then performing an of / encryption of SSL flow on the proxy server.
But while Firefox checks the update server certificate, but also the issuer of the certificate, the update is rejected because of a possible Man-In-The-Middle-attack. In the case of the 'Microsoft Forefront TMG' is a planned MITM attack...
Is it possible to change the expected server update in Mozilla Firefox certificate chain?
As a quick fix, you can change pref app.update.certs.1.issuerName to the value used by your Inbox MITM. Or perhaps better, add new Pref app.update.certs.3.commonName and app.update.certs.3.issuerName with the appropriate values. These two prefs could be passed along to other people in your organization as a file user.js, perhaps, or an add-on restartless.
Not an easy to use solution, but you should get going again.

What is the solution to this issue - is there one that will not make my eyes roll back in my head? What is a true message from Firefox?
the popup looks like this:
[firefix logo] Software update
Update failed
Something tries to trick Firefox by accepting a security update. Please contact your network provider and ask for help
Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files must be updated.
DO NOT USE ONE OF THE LINKS PROVIDED.
If this can be a legitimate message, could also be a Virus or Malware.
No matter when you want or need to check updates.
Go to the website of the real owner of the program in question.
For example, for Firefox, go to Mozilla.org
or Firefox in any language. -
I get a Firefox error message that says, "something tries to trick Firefox by accepting a security update. Please contact your network provider and ask for help. "Do you know what is happening here - what could be the problem? (I have the latest version of Firefox already installed. I previously got Firefox error messages indicating "Firefox update failed". However, I already have the latest version of Firefox installed when I got these error messages.)
I think that we must hope that the problem will be resolved at the present time. If you see the error message again post in this thread. Also, it would be unusual get this message while trying not to update, but if you get if you try to copy and paste the details of console error that they can be useful.
Use
- keyboard Ctrl + Shif + J
- or button-> Web Developer Firefox-> Console errors
This kind of message is apparently the only normally expected when you try to update to Firefox. It seems strange that you get the message using a 'Œuvres' document, but others have reported this message seemingly random incidents.
(So normally, you must clear the error console, and then try to update knowing the error messages have been the result of this attempt to update)If I had this problem my concern would be that some kind of malware may be involved, but the message can then indicate that all this malicious program is upset.

Hi lyndystar
I too had just so sick of this error appeared when your in the middle of something, I ended up having to pay a computer technician to sort on (which I hardly could afford). If all goes well he managed to fix but I will not hold my breath immediately, as usual things go pear for me.
Sorry I can't be of any use help you as I'm naïve with something like that, that's why I posted the question in the hope that I could fix it myself, but nothing helped. -

I have two versions of Firefox on my computer, and whenever I use Firefox, I continue to be asked to help Firefox in answering a question about the product.
Not sure I understand you. You want 2 versions of firefox running on your computer? Or it happened accidentally?
I uninstall firefox, make sure that both versions have disappeared and then install again. You will not lose your settings because the profile folder is not removed by default.

You can try the following steps in case of problems with web pages:
Reload Web pages and ignore the cache to refresh potentially stale or corrupt.
- Hold down the SHIFT key and click the Reload button
- Press 'Ctrl + F5' or 'Ctrl + Shift + R' (Windows, Linux)
- Press 'Command + shift + R' (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from Web sites that are causing problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/tools > Options > advanced > network > content caching Web: 'clear now '.
'Delete Cookies' sites causing problems:
- Firefox/tools > Options > privacy > Cookies: "show the Cookies".
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.
