As I said, the formatting will delete all content added by the user. But hear that you are not using a Mac, your question is most likely a PSG/SMC one. Files loaded in a USB mode are not visible while n connected each other. You can refer to the sample songs that come on the drive from the factory. These are loaded in MTP mode. If your player is in MSC you will not be able to see or delete. Change the USB mode (settings > system settings) and you will be.

    iTunes may well tell you that, but when the songs are stored on your device, the space occupied is smaller.  For example, my iTunes tells me that my songs using 73 GB, but on my phone, they take 21.5 GB.

    Update - it seems to work now, but I deleted all THE music from the phone and started around. As I have now 10,000 songs to synchronize again, I hope I won't have to do it several times.

    Welcome to congratulations on getting a new iPhone and Apple support communities 7.  I see your message that you are having problems changing the order of song into playlists that you created, but it only happens on your new iPhone.  I have several playlists I created myself, and I sometimes have to change the order of songs as well.  I'm happy to help you with this.

    1. Open your music app.
    2. Type library on the bottom left.
    3. Touch Playlists.
    4. Press the Playlist you want to change (it must be one that you have created, as organized playlists cannot be changed).
    5. Press 'Edit' at the top right of your screen.
    6. You should now see red circles 'remove' to the left of each song and three horizontal lines gray right of each song.
    7. Press the grey horizontal lines with your finger and drag the song to the position in the playlist that you want it to be in.
    8. When you have finished editing, type "Done" in the upper right corner.
    9. Your playlist should now be in the new order that you chose!

    I moved accidentally all my songs out their records organized iTunes.

    The songs are all still in the music folder, but are now loose in there, and all of their files are empty.

    I find that all my songs are still playing very well, but just do not know if maybe I should get iTunes somehow to put them all back (?)

    I think probably the best thing to do would have to drag the iTunes folder automatically added to.

    I just got myself a iPhone 7 128 gb phone after having a 5 for 4 years or more. I spent Saturday setting up using iTunes, but I am now find just some of my songs do not play on my iPhone, which I think should be reduced to a problem of sync. Now as a first step, synchronization and implementation of backup process took approximately 8 hours at night. It is perhaps down to my laptop (Windows 10) or the fact that I have over 9,000 songs put out there. I had this problem in the past, but now some of my most listened songs, who previously, I have not had problems with, do not play on the phone.

    So, after that sync the first time, I got an error pops up saying that some songs may not be synchronized, so I tried again and again and this number of songs got more smaller and smaller each time, BUT some of the songs never appear on this list and may not always be played on the phone. It's very strange and I can't just make drag the unit. My iTunes has 9415 songs but my camera has only said 8971 (excessive in both cases, I know).

    Frustrating is that songs that lack seem to be ones I particularly want to listen for some reason, i.e. those maybe I listened mainly just before moving on to the iPhone 7, but is not limited to these songs. When I click on my device on iTunes and click 'Music', these songs play here either, but appear different songs around them or display errors. Play these songs in iTunes that is normal in the library.

    I have updated to iOS 10.0.2 and iTunes is 12.5.1.

    I write here before going through the agony of pulling all the songs off the unit and restore.

    Try going into settings > iTunes & App Stores > password settings and you can make adjustments there.

It's a bit unclear exactly how you have configured devices, but if you are currently using iCloud Music Library (whether for the music of Apple or iTunes game), you would not sync your music from iTunes directly. All of this would be available via Apple iTunes/music game for broadcast, with an option to download a local copy for offline listening.
