  Thanks for the info.

  MPEG files are problematic in all versions of Movie Maker.
  Best bet would be to convert the files to the. WMV format
  before you import into Movie Maker.

  There are many converters available on the net... some
  free... some detail.

  The following freeware converter is just one example:

  (FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
  Restore point before installing software or updates)

  Format Factory (freeware)

  (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
  ('all' boxes on the final screens)

  and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

  Next, after the download and installation of Format
  Factory... you can open the program and
  left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and

  Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

  Select "all to WMV" / OK...

  Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

  Thank you for your message.  Windows Media Player 11 supports .avi, but compression can dictate whether he will play or not.  This is very probably a Codec issue, you can perform a websearch for a Codec that will play any avi compression.

And I still remember worked up to a point where it just wouldn't read videos (for no reason) when I turn it on the black player a few trips and none of the playback buttons work (except eject) it charges thin strips and I even clicked on file and it worked (he was shooting and not errors) I plug into my TV (camera mode works it shows on the TV) but the player is not at all.   I know that you don't have to get a firewire card, but it will be faster than the USB to transfer the video

  I also own a Sony Handycam DCR-HC44E. Unfortunately, my laptop does not recognize my camcorder and tells me that I have to download a missing driver.   Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  Usually, when you try to play a video in Media Player if you do not have the right codec Media Player will automatically download and install the correct codec if it is available.  Since this is a Power Point presentation has video embedded in it?  If so, try to play the video file outside the Power Point presentation and Media Player will go out and get the correct codec if you are connected to the internet.  Here is an article from the Microsoft Knowledge base that explains Media player codecs and configuration to automatically download:
