Sony RX10 III Raw exif question

Hi all!  I've recently updated my CC Photoshop so that it supports the ARW format generated by my camera Sony RX10 III.  Loading images very well and I can very well handle them.  My problem is the following: jpg I create files which began as ARW are more viewable on my TV Bravia Sony 4 K (my preferred method for slide shows).  I did some research and it seems that the Sony Bravia TV take in charge the DCF 2.0 standard and in particular only Pixel / Chroma subsampling YCbCr 4:2:2 or 4:2:0.

During the inspection of these jpg exif data, I see that the files that have been created by being imported from ARW * or * files that were on the camera as jpg in mode "Raw + JPG" contain this line:

< tiff: YCbCrPositioning > 2 < / tiff: YCbCrPositioning >

The files that have been created from my other devices, or this device when shooting in JPG mode only, do not have this line.  And these images display fine on the TV, while none of the jpgs with this line of YCbCrPositioning appears.

There, anyone know how to get around this problem?  I have a big pile of (what I think of) pictures from a recent trip that I can't show it to everyone because of this problem!  Thank you very much in advance...

-Jeff

Update: apparently, PS is now save these files in YCBCr 444, instead of 422 or 420 as before.  Sort of that change?  Thank you!

SOLVED!

Turns out, it was the pesky 'Format Options' put at the bottom of half of the JPEG Options dialog box on the economy.  I always put the quality at 12 (even if it looks like I could use 8 or 9 as well in my case here) and the baseline ("Standard").  Apparently, at some point the default has changed in 'Progressive', and it is these files (no matter the quality setting) which are not displayed.  Go figure.

In any case, open and re-registration online database with pictures of quality yields 12 I post again, oh joy!

Thanks for the input!

  • Sony a6300 ARW (RAW) files supported by Lightroom?

    Hey there,

Maybe this question came up to 100 times, but the only answers I can find are from a few months back so I would like to know if there is an update.

The forums say (4/5 months back) that Lightroom was waiting for an update for Sony a6300 ARW (RAW) support files. I downloaded Lightroom today (trial version) with the hope of buying it but if I can't access my RAW files... There is no need at the moment.

Is there an update? I have the latest Lightroom and CameraRaw installed.

Does anyone know a way around this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Update of Lightroom 4 for sony rx100 iii

I have lightroom 4 is installed on my Mac. I recently bought a sony rx100 III and version 4 does not recognize the camera and will not import pictures. Y at - it an update to version 4 I could download to fix the problem?

Camera Raw plugin | Supported devices

Unfortunately, the Sony RX100 III has been initially supported by Lightroom 5.5.

Retrospective support is never as much which means that earlier versions will never be able to open this camera Raw files.

    Choice:

    1. Upgrade to Lightroom 5.6
    2. Join the Cloud to get Lightroom 5.6
    3. Free option: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all RX100 III files to DNG and then change the DNG in Lightroom 4

  • Lightroom CC fixed incorrect timestamp on files MP4 Sony RX10 II

A Sony RX10 II to add to my Kit, mainly for video. Due to the structure using Sony is on the map, 3rd party software is problems importing video files from the camera, because they are not stored in the DCIM folder used by photos. I could get Lightroom CC to see and import videos saying LR to watch the whole map in the import dialog box (by default, it only looks at the DCIM folder), when imported, LR adds four hours at the time of creation of the file, but ONLY for MP4 videos (video AVCHD are stored separately from the MP4, and the creation time is correct for those). So, if I pull a video at 14:00, Lightroom will say that it was shot at 18:00. As I name, file numbers my files with the original followed by capture time, MP4 files end up sorting out of order and could find themselves in bad day if file shot dead after 20:00. I can go in manually and have LR change file creation time metadata and then rename the files to pick up the new time, but it would be nice not to have to pass through these hoops every time.

What's happening: the specification of the metadata of QuickTime/MP4 advertising capture time to save in UTC (GMT).  That's what has made the Sony camera - he recorded a Date of creation of the 2016:05:04 16:31:09 field. Incredibly, the specification provides no standard method of recording the time zone.   So the only time in a standard MP4 which can report the LR is 2016:05:04 16:31:09.

Note that, until recently, a few digital cameras had a notion of time zone, so they ignored the spec and record local time (whatever their clock is set to) in the Date created field.  This is why LR is generally correct for these cameras capture time.

Sony did save the time zone in nonstandard, undocumented, Sony own metadata XML stored in the MP4 file in the sidecar XML, 2016:05:04 12:31:09-04:00, which is at 12:31 pm EDT.   But LR only reads the metadata specific to the manufacturers.   (I could not find any documentation for the schema of metadata of Sony, urn: schemas - professionalDisc:nonRealTimeMeta:ver.2.00.)

A similar problem occurs with iPhone - iPhone records videos an hour UTC in the field create, as requested by the specification, but LR the interpreter as a local time, since there is no matter what time zone available to LR.  See this bug report: Lightroom: iPhone video Capture time is shifted to import | Community customer Photoshop family

  • Comment by Canon RAW EXIF Import

Until LR5 the EXIF 'UserComments"field has been imported into the field of the legend of the metadata.  As a new feature LR5 continues to import all shooting information, but does not load the comment.  Does anyone know what EXIF field is now read in the area of the legend.  I use EXIFtool to put my comment in the RAW file, so I can put it as needed?

    John

When I bought my Canon 30 d in ' 06 I started put ID info in the comments using ZoomBrowserEX field which provides Canon.  As increased my volume of photo I found 2 problems with my workflow: 1) put the identical or similar ID in a large number of images has been a real pain and 2) if I needed to change my ZoomBrowserEX comment tended to put the changes in an XMP file to the directory rather that individual will produce so to move an image left the ID behind in the old directory.  To automate the workflow more I started to use exifutils www.hugsan.com to insert comments into the EXIF:UserComment field using a batch file.  Around the same time, I started using Lightroom (I think version II) who picked up the EXIF:UserComment domain and placed him in the legend as shown in this screenshot:

    I used exifutils rather than EXIFtools, which does not directly support the comments of several entry lines.  From LR3, with ZoomBrowserEX could not import inserted comments, but those inserted with exifutils would be important.  As near as we could find the end of the line codes used by ZoomBrowserEX caused problems LR while the CRLF inserted with exifutils was OK.  Due to several problems with exifutils, I could imagine a workaround for inserting comments from multiline using EXIFtools with the command line: perl C:\EXIFTOOL\exiftool.pl "-UserComment.<=Cmt" 1401c_0989.cr2="" after="" creating="" a="" multiline="" id="" file="" named="" cmt. ="" using="" exiftools="" i="" have="" been="" working="" to="" extract="" the="" comments="" inserted="" with="" zoombrowserex="" and="" reinsert="" them="" using="" exiftools="" which="" is="" time="" consuming="" for="" thousands="" of="" images. ="" lr3="" and="" lr4="" have="" consistently="" imported="" these="" comments="" to="" the="" caption="" field="" as="" shown="" above. ="" somewhere="" in="" the="" last="" updates="" to="" lr4="" or="" the="" new="" lr5="" these="" comments="" are="" no="" longer="" imported. ="" i="" have="" verified="" by="" having="" lr="" export="" the="" metadata="" to="" an="" xmp="" file,="" as="" it="" does="" automatically="" with="" raw="" images,="" that="" the="" exif:usercomments="" i="" inserted="" is="" in="" the="" xmp="" export="" for="" both="" images="" where="" the="" comment="" formerly="" imported="" to="" the="" caption="" and="" those="" where="" it="" does="" not="" import="" now. ="" the="" only="" difference="" in="" the="" image="" structure="" is="" what="" formerly="" imported="" no="" longer="">

I think, but does not guarantee that I have the chronology above completely correct.   Having satisfied thousands of unidentified Dad's photos, I try to do that mine localization and subject data physically in the picture and not in a file that can be lost.  I need the comments of several lines that do not appear in the Canon ZoomBrowserEX and Digital Photo Professional like Lightroom.  If necessary I can insert the comment in several locations within the image, but I really need to know where, in the mysterious depths of files from RAW Canon LR can Pick-up a comment and place it in a displayed field.  The legend is kind of practice, but another may do just fine.  I also need to process RAW files from Canon 30 d, 70 d and S95 as well as any camera, I buy in the future.

Thank you very much for your help.  I'm under 64-bit Win7 on an I3 processor. I think I started with one of the middle of LR2 versions and have done at every update since they were issued and bought two upgrades months after they come out.  I like to use Lightroom despite some limitations, but who need to constantly refer to an another installer of my keywords is a real pain.

You try to import directly from the camera or a card reader? Direct the camera setting was known to be a bit flaky, so if you do this try a card reader instead.

I just tried to download the Raw files from a Canon 5 d Mark III to Lightroom 3.  The file have not been recognized.  According to me, there were a few problems update, but my Lightroom 3 is updated.  I need Lightroom 4?  I need to know that I have a meeting tomorrow and will go back to my Mrk II if I can't get an update of Lightroom 3 emergency.

The latest version of LR3 has been updated in last December, and the 5D.3 is more recent than that, then Yes you need LR4.

You can download the trial LR4 (or just the update 4.1 www.adobe.come/downloads/updates/ LR) and have 30 days before you need to purchase and enter a serial number.

The other choice is to use the 7.1 to DNG Converter that knows your new camera, but allows the converted DNG open in LR3.
