  I have an Optiplex GX280 with soundmax integrated digital audio under Windows 7 SP1. Sound works fine for a long time, then more nothing. I uninstalled it, rebooted, Windows Update found and installed the same driver. Speakers using good reputation does not work. I tried to find a few smwdm.sys, NG.   I have a laptop HP 6730 s with vista business and SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD audio. When I display the audio soundMax, "recording devices" section says "all audio devices are disabled. I have his (music, Skype etc...) but not micro... and in my settings of sound in the 'recording' tab is "no audio device is installed".   used the experience of modding drivers for ati mobility GPU and copied the softpak hp devices to install my driver soundmax in the INF this driver of 5860 above, installed by the Device Manager and it seems to work. lets see how well...

  a look at the Device Manager now makes me look stupid... my driver version is now 5.10.1.5180, which is the oldest one offered on the hp page, although I have installed the 5.10.1.5860 modded inf file.

  I had the driver of the 5870 since this page and installed. These seem to be the most recent. I'll take a look at the inf file, maybe learn how future drivers in order to be compatible with 8510p mod.

  It seems that there is an output digital realtec somewhere on the laptop as it appears not when I go to the playback devices and it tests ok visually.

  The 3.5 jack plug is just analog and hybrid not a spdif.

• No sound from the computer with connected generic speakers VISTA SP2. Symbol pregnant shows active with the Digital Audio device.

  I have vista SP2, I connected to generic stereo speakers using the green light at the back of the computer. Vista does not recognize the speakers. The speaker symbol at the bottom right shows "digital (HDMI) 2 high definition output audio device." It shows active. I had this problem before, and VISTA should pick up 'speakers' something to that effect. I have no sound until it captures "speakers". I can't get VISTA to recognize this. It keeps starting with the digital audio device. Don't know what to do, checked all the forums. It should just pick up these simple generic markets good speakers. Before SP2, I lose sound when VISTA is in standby mode. He would then turn off the stereo speaker and replace the digital output device driver... However since SP2 I can't get VISTA to recognize that I have just connected speakers and not a digital output device.

  Yes, the fiber optic cable sockets are in different sizes. I know that the selection where I live is limited, but I am sure that you would have a hard time to find them if you look pretty hard.

  I have my system setup to be able to video chat, and there's a really bad echo across the line.  When people speak to me in my configuration, they can clearly hear what they were saying is repeated.  I did some tests and it seems that the issue is due to the sound from the speakers bouncing off the walls and then picked up by the mic.  I found this room correction function in the sound options menu and finds it difficult to make it work.

If the update of drivers does not have the problem, you can try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers from Device Manager sound card, follow these steps:

  (a) start Control Panel, click hardware and sound and then click Device Manager.

  (b) to expand the node that represents the type of device you want to uninstall, right click on the entrance to the unit and click on uninstall.

  (c) in the dialog box confirm the device removal, click OK to start the uninstall process.

  (d) when the uninstall is complete, the site of the factory driver download and install the drivers.

  (e) after installing the drivers, install the latest updates.
