Speccy for Tecra R840-10T (PT429E-00M007EP)

* The HDD Seagate got completely borked, replaced under warranty by a Toshiba HDD.

* If you use much plugged to AC without the battery (as I do, I only liked in the stack to use or load) your internal battey runs low and you need to reset the BIOS time whenever you start.

* 3G is not as fast as I had hoped, but this may be due to other factors. The same goes for the wireless.

* Tecra is not what it was. Unless you want something specific (such as a 3G modem) buy a Satellite.

I got data speccy but, even trimmed, it's too big to post here. : p

The camera is connected to the USB 3.0 hub. The motherboard was replaced by warranty soon as I bought it.

Comes with a bunch of crapware from Toshiba and Intel, as expected.

Nevertheless, overall, works well. The battery lasts usually around 4 hours, but I don't use it much and when I do it more often for office stuff. YMMV

Although the original plan was to dump win7 and replace it with Debian, I already * nixes in my VMs at home and there are some things that you can't quite replace (like a desktop suite) and still interface with other beings, so I might keep this one with windows. We'll see.

Thanks for this interesting announcement.

    Toshiba and ForumFolk greetings.

I am considering buying laptop said, but I will so if I can use it with my "Other Operating System". :)

I'm guessing that this laptop is relatively new and I can't find reliable information anywhere, so I'll try here first. What I see, Toshiba supplies only drivers are windows ones.

FREE software drivers only go as far as HD 5890 series for the graphics card. What is the difference between HDMI and DusplayPort?

I'm completely in the dark about the chipsets are actually used for the other components. Some drivers are supposed to be "OS independent", however, following the links for the 3G driver, I get a list of the 3 drivers/utilities for windows.

I guess that bluetooth and WiFi (a/b/g/n or b/g/n?) will be more simple and easy to support with FREE software drivers, I hope. The manual stipulates that WiFi and Bluetooth work in the same frequencies, is it? Any risk of actual use (network dropouts, etc.)?

I don't really like to drive Optics (or speakers and card-slot machines), but which is not being able to use 2.6 and 5.2 GB DVD - RAM?
    All the lights here?

PS: The Toshiba laptops that do not have vents on the underside are there? It's rather silly to laptop manufacturers.

As much as I know that the Wlan card is 802.11(a/g/n) Intel supporting BT as well.

But why you do not use a tool of hardwarediagnostic for Linux?
That would be the best way to get part of hardware features...

Can someone tell me if the DVD drive is IDE or SATA? I'm assuming SATA but I want to know without a disc phillips and none of the form pages that I found mentions it.

    > Can someone tell me if the DVD drive is IDE or SATA?
The new generation of portable supports for the majority of the SATA ODD (optical disc) and HARD drive interface.
AFAIK this Tecra R840-10 t was equipped with the DVD-SUPER MULTI (DL) and this player supports the SATA interface.

When I try to install the bios update 12/09/12,3.90-WIN(EC_KBC1.60) I get the following message: this computer is not supported.
Updated the BIOS, I downloaded from the section of the Bios Toshiba for Tecra R840-PT429E update, windows7 64 bit.

    Hello

Is the a reason to update the BIOS or you want to update the BIOS simply because the new BIOS is available?
You have a serious problem with the laptop?

I have no day BIOS, even if the new BIOS is available for my laptop because I have no problems.

However, the BIOS requires the VAP (value added package).
This package can be downloaded from the Toshiba UE driver page
If there is a problem with the VAP, the update of the BIOS would not start.

So reinstall the VAP to check if this may help

  • Tecra R840-A222 - Windows XP Drivers needed

Hello everyone, I am currently planning to purchase the Tecra R840 - A222 (PT42KV) here in Saudi Arabia and I need to know if this model has Windows XP drivers for it. On the driver download page, I can see two short-model for this R840-A222 numbers. They are PT42KV and PT42KE.

The PT42KV has only about five drivers XP while the PT42KE has virtually all the drivers for Windows XP.
Is someone can you please tell me if for the PT42KE XP drivers will also apply to the PT42KV?

I am especially concerned by the base which consists of the chipset graphic, audio, ethernet drivers, and others for material of this model. I use this camera mainly for engineering software (PLC programming, diagnosis of the vehicle and other who need the XP platform).

    > On the driver download page, I can see two short-model for this R840-A222 numbers. They are PT42KV and PT42KE.

As far as I know XP for Tecra R840 PT42KE drivers should work on Tecra R840 PT42KV too.

  • Need cap for my R840-17R Tecra Accupoint

    Hello

I have a Tecra R840-17R that has a mouse Accupoint controller stick in the center of the keyboard, as former IBM's ThinkPad. The problem is that when the Blue cap of Accupoint popped and missing keyboard cleaning.

I've been to Toshiba and, also, "Topaz" [who are supposed to be that the parts support the crowd] and sent a picture of that little point and told me that you can not but the Accupoint CAP on its own.

If you want to replace the CAP you must purchase a new full keyboard and remove the CAP. I guess they mean also that you throw the new keyboardwhen you have removed the plug and it was back up to your original keyboard. It is on an older Tecra of two months.

I wrote a snotty letter back to Toshiba telling them that, as a customer for the last 10 years of Toshiba computers laptops, I'm very angry that for a 10-cent rubber plug, they are happy to see me take my future indeed. I'll probably buy a Dell or if I can stretch budgets a bit, Mac books.

Just on the off chance but I thought that maybe someone can suggest where I could get a replacement cap Accupoint?
    Best regards, parkman

    Hello

Please don't be crazy about me, but why make it so complicated? A few years ago, I had the same problem with my old Tecra. The little hat was pretty dirty and I wanted to have a new.

    Can you do the same?

My new ssd (arriving in a few days) is a Plextor M5P which is 7 mm thick! My Tecra R840-16J have a thickness 9.5 mm HDD and what I've seen is no caddy!
I would be grateful all the tricks for installing the ssd drive in my Tecra!

    Thanks for your time,

    Hello Paulo

As far as I know that some models are available with drive HARD and some with SSD these models with SSD have small SSD support. SSD is fixed by 4 screws in this medium.

I put t really know how to help you now. Maybe you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. I think they can check the part number of this door - or maybe order one for you.

  • Upgrade SSD for a Tecra R840-16J

    Hello world

This is my first post here!
I am Portuguese and I bought a R840-16J two months ago. I chose this model because it had all the specs I wanted (I run Toshiba laptops since 1997... and my first still works!) except one: he had not an SSD. Given that I could not custom make my laptop that I bought it with a 500 GB HDD at 7200 RPM,.
The upgrade only I could do (and I did) was to install an extra 4 GB RAM module.

I would like to install an SSD now (with the same capacity,...).

    My questions:

    1. don't recommend me a special brand/model?
2 - What are the steps that I need to have a correct installation?
    3. I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :-).

    Kind regards
    Paulo

    > 1-do you recommend me a special brand/model?

I would not recommend a specific model or manufacturer, I think that it s always a question of value for money. I recommend you get some reading and assessment tests some SSD drive test on tech Web sites.
You can choose the best SSD drive for you I mean it didn't need to be the best and expensive

    > 2 - what steps I have to do a correct installation?

It is the same procedure as the HARD drive upgrade.
Check this nice HowTo from Toshiba:
Tecra R840 & Satellite R840 HARD drive replacement procedure
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU19037K0000R01.htm

    > 3 - I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

You can install everything again on new SSD drive or you will create an image:
You can use an option included in Windows 7:
Click Start at the start and then select back up your files.
Then click on create a system image hyperlink.
Now you can choose where you want to save the image. You can choose an external HARD disk, burn it on several DVD s, or store it on a network location.
When you want to restore the image, you will be able to use the System Recovery Options to recover the system. For a recovery of the system option, you must start the Win 7 F8 press should choose fix my computer. You will find in this window option called: system image recovery

  • Tecra R840-10 t has no work webcam or USB 3.0 port

Even if this [another thread | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=62061&start=15&tstart=0] has been marked as resolved, the problems remain, but are not related to the bone, hw-partners.

1 week after that I got a Tecra R840-10 t (PT429E-00M007EP) of Windows 7 have frozen at startup and the fan run at maximum speed. All I could do was to enter safe mode. After a factory reset (reinstalling OS of the hidden HD partition), not even the safe mode worked!
Took back to the store, 2 days later a local Toshiba representative referred to the store as fixed (they have updated the BIOS...)

2-3 weeks later, same problem. I called Toshiba directly, they have picked up the laptop, took almost 2 weeks and sending parts of the Germany twice before they sent it. I had to call them to find out they were going to deliver the next day. So far it seems to be fixed, Windows has not frozen since.

However, now, little more than a month after I bought this laptop from professional quality, I noticed that, on his return, the USB 3.0 port (as long as this port) and the webcam does not work. They do not appear in the Device Manager, update their drivers through page for the download of Tecra yields nothing (and you have to go through hoops to actually install the webcam driver), nothing. It's as if they did not exist. I guess that any material they brought in wasn't exactly in perfect condition, or someone forgot to plug it into some pine trees.

I tried several Linux LiveCD as well, they all recognize the material to varying degrees (being the most comprehensive Debian), but no recognize the USB 3.0 port or the webcam as well.

Not an OS problem. Call them once again, waiting for a response from a representative Monday morning. Seriously considering to move directly to a repair center and asking the complaints book. There is no guarantee that this laptop won't break again.

    Not a happy camper.

    Hello

    > I tried several Linux LiveCD as well, they all recognize the material to varying degrees (being the most comprehensive Debian), but no recognize the USB 3.0 port or the webcam as well.

Have you tested this with Toshiba configured OS?
It would be interesting if Windows 7 would get the same problems, recognizing the USB 3.0 and the webcam

    Hello

Never solved this problem, I have the same problem with my Tecra R840. I have windows 10 initial installation when it was first released, however had the freezing issue (System fan would also begin running at 100%, that is very strong but whole machine was locked and would require a hard reset). After a few weeks of this question, that I started Windows 7 and which would be fine.

However, just tonight I thought I would try the anniversary 10 Windows Update to see if that had solved the problem, unfortunately the same problem persists. After you have installed update Windows 10 anniversary (updated to Windows 7), the laptop freezes still. There a simple 3 minutes after connecting the fan turns 100%, and everything froze upwards.

Thoughts/ideas or help here would be appreciated?

    See you soon
