Split VMDK - some corrupted files

We had an outage on a host VMware Server 2.0 and two files that were part of a split VMDK file, have been corrupted.  We ran:

fsck.reiserfs--rebuild-Arbre/dev/sda2

For I hope to bring those corrupted files back to life, but no, they are completely missing

I know it's a stretch, but it is anyway to bring back this VMDK to life, although it missed about 4 GB of data?

It's on a virtual machine Windows Netware 6.5.  When I go to the 'parent' VMDK file and remove the lines referring to these two files, I can add that virtual disk back, but the server Netware do not see as valid a partition.

Hello

you have backups of the missing sections - even if they are very old?

We need to replace the missing slices increments using the exact same file system and partition layout.

So we plan A = replace the missing slices with one of a backup you have ay

Plan B = recreate the same exact drive to produce new slices.

If you need to create a new brand of disc you are using the same partition as the original used layout and format with the same options you used before.

I did before with disk formatted NTFS and ext3 - in these cases, we could restore most of the files.

I don't know how Netware will react to this?

  • SFC/scannow found but could not fix some corrupted files

    Hello

    Today, I tried to install the update package 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1', but unfortunately she didn't... Then, I wanted to check my operating system with SFC/scannow and discovered that some files are corrupt.

    I would like to know if anyone here can check the log and can tell me what files are important and if there is serious damage. I do have to know how to analyze these logs, but I don't know what needs Windows or what.

  • SFC/scannow found but could not fix some corrupted files, how can I remove them / find them?

    Separated from this thread.

    Rob,

    Sincerely appreciate the info/advice.  I ran sfc/scannow and cropped the results to include only the unable to complete sections.  OK portions have been eliminated for practical reasons.  PC is a Vista PC with SP2 and all updates.  The antivirus program is run several times a week and has identified no virus/spyware/malware.  No other real problems with PC.

    A few notes:

    (1) we will NEVER buy another PC with a trace of all 'games' that is, waste of space and time and a value.  Looking at the impossible to correct entries, they seem to be exclusively associated with functions of game without value.

    (A) we need to participate in this farce of a game or can simply be ignored without affecting

    legitimate operation/functions of the PC?  When close or restart, we get the error message

    0 x 0000142 failed to initialize properly... Other PC functions seem to work well.

    (B) is there a way to clean up the waste of space games so that would solve the problem

    without affecting the performance of the PC? (When try to remove the game worthless hoax,)

    It will not remove them). I know that some of the files 'source' for waste games

    missing.  Since NONE of them will ever by used, is there a reason to worry?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

    You have received the wrong information to the other poster here.

    It has been said before on mistakes in this regard, but continues to post.

    You cannot run a repair to start from a Vista DVD installation

    Words, there isn't 'Repair your computer', who had already used this Option, you would find that it is a system system restore restart tool, command, prompt only.

    The other poster would like to read and learn something;

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-Windows-with-Windows-Startup-Repair/

    Booting from a Vista DVD gives you the opportunity to do a startup repair, NOT fix corrupted operating system files.

    To do a repair installation upgrade with a Vista DVD get you in a RACE vista operating system.

    Hi, can you please help. I have problems with the installation of the updates and software on my laptop: -.

    updated Windows, I get the error code 80200053,
    Microsoft Security Essentials updates, I get the error code 0 x 80240022 (it is a new installation but have not been able to run as unable to update with all definitions)
    Installation of Windows Live Messenger and Mail, I get error code hr:0x8007000d

    I restored my laptop to factory default, but the problem has not been fixed. I still have the same problem but also, I'm unable to download programs such as Java or AVG (before I tried MSE), I get messages affecting either corrupted files or editors unknown/certificates. I have had these problems for more than a week now, actually both my laptop and my desktop partners have the same problems.

    After spending hours searching these forums, I found another user who seems to have the same problems as me and monitoring of the solution developed for example disk cleanup; SFC.exe then checkdisk but the problems have not been resolved. The log of the SFC.exe suggested that some corrupt files could not be repaired and I looked at the results, but to be honest I have no idea what to do about it. The result of checkdisk returned clean well.

    We managed to get a copy of AVG from a CD and run a full scan on the laptop and desktop and no viruses have been detected. The only items listed were cookies of track that have been removed or repaired and 2 items on my laptop Advisor broken digital certificates.

    Can you please help me with this, I don't know what else to do to solve this problem?

  • How can I find a list of corrupted files

    I'm unable to save the files on USB keys and I have also some corrupt files.

    There is no way to get a list of files corrupt on a memory stick - you just need to check each file to see if it works or it gives you an error message to be corrupt or problems.

    To check the files corrupted on your system, follow these steps:

    Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

    Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  Try to put all the corrupt files here so that we can see if they can be repaired with good copies of the installation disc (unless there are too many).

    While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot.   Answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

    Regarding registration of files in the memory of Poles go, try to reformat the memory sticks and see if that solves the problem (save to your hard drive the content first so they can be recovered).  Of course, if this does not resolve the problem, your sticks of memory will have nothing on them and you will not be able to add antything so do this at your own risk.  I would like to test it with one stick before trying other - preferably one that is less used or with the least amount of data on it.

    If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side. You can have a lot of updates to re - install (including all you need to remove service packs).  If the version of the system came with SP1 or SP2 preinstalled and the disc is an earlier version, then you will need to make a record of slipstream as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html.   Who restores all system files (unlike the SFC which covers only some and sometimes is unable to repair corruption) and need to restore your ability to save to memory.

    I hope this helps.  Please post back anyway and let us know what happened (and if it did not, what were the results of the analysis and if you actually tried the repair/upgrade process at the system level).

    Good luck!

  • Error codes & corrupt file problems

  • SFC/scannow found he could not repair corrupted files

    Running Windows7 32 Bit

    Found several Pots every 5 to 7 years in which this issue; hoping that there may be a newer better way to solve the problem... so seconded and fingers crossed.

    * PC froze

    * Powered off / Powered it back on

    * Selected Normal boot started fine on the desktop PC

    Decided to run sfc/scannow.  "At the end it read: Windows resource Protection found damaged, files but was unable to solve some of them.

    Looked at the log CBS.log file.  It might take some time to review and even if I saw it that I would not be able to choose the corrupted files, nor know how to find and replace... and don't know if I was smart enough for that I could even remove and replace the files of the operating system.

    I realize I've read in some real old Posts on this topic, maybe some corrupt files are not really necessary or important... but I'd rather have a good job of OS.

    So is there a way to better\newer to resolve this issue... instead of finding what could be one is necessary in the files of the boot of Hay, then looking for right files to replace those damaged?

    I note an In BONE repair on-site... that worries me, because the software just doesn't do well after a repair on the spot.

    Looking for replacement option, and eager to have a BONE without corrupted files and corrupt files... If on-site repair is my only way to go... What are the actual steps not excluded... I have my original Windows7 DVD...

    Haven't tried using the system restore, given that this feature would not replace the corrupted files back to a previous restore point...

    Very well.

    Marking of my previous response as RESPONSE will officially close your thread.

    PS: Wouldn't mind a USEFUL vote while you're there either.

    If the SFC does not a repair installation should work.

    can someone help me please! Thank you.

    HI Margaret,

    Thank you for your message.

    Looks like you have a virus or malware causing corruption.

    I suggest to update your Kaspersky Anti-virus definitions and run a full scan of the system.

    Also, make sure here's you have the Vista disc in the drive when you run SFC, where it gets the correct file information.

    Alternatively, you can try to perform a clean boot before you attempt to run SFC, to see if a startup program may conflict with it:

    When SFC cannot repair the files, it's time for a repair install from the dvd of the OS.  While you may fix one by one, you never know what else is wrong with the operating system.

  • Microsoft C++ runtime error. When I am downloading World Of Warcraft. Resources Windows Protection found corrupt files but was not able to fix some. Details are provided in the CBS.log newspaper. (I ran sfc/scannow in the command window twice)

    I am trying to download the demo version of 'WoW' World of Warcraft. I get to the part where he is configing its parameters to my computer and get a runtime error that something caused my program is complete. I read the other posts which had similar problems so I ran sfc/scannow in the command prompt window. It reads...  Resources Windows Protection found corrupt files but was not able to fix some. Details are provided in the CBS.log newspaper. I've shortened, but it is easy to understand that there is a question that the scan will not fix. I tried to access the CBS.log newspaper and opened a text doc, that was a bunch of YYYYYYYYY. I'm a little lost here and my 10 free WoW trial days is weathering away without me =)

    Please help, thanks

    Borrow a Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc Recovery DVDs) to do a repair installation

    If you see a startup Neosmart repair disk download here, this is NOT what you want.

    You want a good Vista DVD that contains the operating system files.

    If you need a recovery media for your laptop back to factory settings, read this info:

    How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
