SRM 5.5-> customization of Ip

Hello, is there a way to customize a NETWORK card with multiple IPs?

for example, under linux, I have eth0 and eth0: 0. I did a test and the default customization clears my eth0 Setup: 0 when I ran a test of recovery.

To handle this, you need run a script as part of the stimulus plan.

  • Can RS 5.1.2 running on Windows 2012 R2?

I can't find any documentation clearly indicating whether or not SRM can run on Windows 2012 R2.  There are many implications that 2012 is supported, but never clearly states R2 is included and there is no SRM-> guest operating system compatibility matrix. Can someone point me to a document that clearly states that 5.1.2 can be installed on Windows 2012 R2?

In addition, my vCenter servers is only 5.1 U1c, and runs on Windows 2008 R2.  Someone raised a concern that vCenter SRM < must run on the OS even invited, but I don't see why this would be the case.  Can anyone confirm this?

    Hello

The SRM 5.x is compatible with the operating system host even as vCenter 5.x: see compatibility for vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1 tables where it is said: "MRS. 5.1.x server runs on the same windows host operating systems as vCenter Server.» Once you go to the vCenter and host OS compatibility matrix: VMware Compatibility Guide: search guest conductor / you will see that Windows 2012 R2 is supported with vCenter 5.1 U2 and, consequently, SRM 5.1 U2.

There is no requirement that vCenter and SRM are running on the same host operating system.

In addition, OS VMware host documentation refers to the operating system where our products are executed. It can be virtualized, but SRM server point of view, he is the host. By guest operating system, we refer to the OS running in a virtual machine where our products interact with him on the outside - for example when SRM performs IP customization on a virtual computer, the operating system inside the VM is a guest operating system.

  • SRM customization specifications

I have a few questions about the specifications of customization for MRS.  The documentation covered extensively the subject.  From documentation fragmented, I can understand only the recovery site customization specification is needed and only retains the intellectual property information.  The rest of the fields are ignored (name, Department, license key, etc.).  If the dr-ip-customizer tool is used to export a new specification of customization on the server in recovery, SRM, the only specified fields are IP related fields.  The rest of the fields in the specification of customization would be missing.  How the mini Setup Wizard can actually reconfigure the virtual machine with these missing fields? In addition, must the sysprep files be installed on the server vCenter recovery?

    Thanks in advance.

    Rick

Quickprep process that runs during the customization of the stimulus plan doesn't only scratched the IP settings, it is slightly different from that of the standard process of sysprep.  The sysprep files are not necessary on the SRM server, everything you need is installed with MRS.

    Hello

Because during re - protect the placeholders are created again, they will have different IDS to virtual machine.

UPD: I don't know if there is a chance to ID duplicate in the two vCenters, but as a general rule, they will be different.

  • Customize the SRM process for a single page?

    Hello

After using the wizard to create a report, it is possible to customize the MRU/DSM process for this page without editing for all pages? I think I probably need to go to some effort to write my own... but I thought I would ask to avoid possibly re - invent the wheel...

    See you soon,.

You cannot change the standard process and you will need to write your own if you need more. What is an update of the single line or a tabular form?

  • PowerCLI script for the deployment of virtual machines via the model using customizations comments

Hello... I hope someone can give me a script that will do the following:

    (1) provision VMs in vCenter template (I need 125 + VMs created in the next day or two)

    (2) use the existing customizations of comments in vCenter

    (3) let me enter data warehouses available to be created on the virtual machines.  Example: I want that VMs on warehouses of specific data as LUN2, LUN5, LUN6, LUN12, LUN1, etc...  However, the script must have the ability to know when a data store is near the threshold of capacity, say 90%, so it can use one of the other warehouses available, identified in the script... similar to storage profiles.  We still have to adopt profiles storage but plan to do so once upgraded us to v5.1 in the next month or two.  We hope that this will help us keep our replicated LUN more organized during the use of SRM and copy to remote groups, our team of storage's configuration on 3PAR.

Additional information: I will use 2 styles... Windows XP and Win7.  Their respective sizes are 40 and 60 GB due to all applications for stable DR.  Data warehouses are ea 500 GB.

Please let me know if additional information is necessary... Thank you!!!

    Charles

No, unfortunately you cannot specify a folder like this.

    You'll have to do a

    $folder = get-file-name WinXP

    New-VM-$folder file...

Remove the line of New - VM WhatIf switch if you really want to start creating virtual machines.

  • SRM Test AD/DNS vs AD/DNS recovery failover recovery

I read: http://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-11517 and it seems that for a real failover SRM DDNS must manage VMS failover commissioning with a new IP (using MRS IP Customizer) using AD/DNS server that is running always on recovery (using built-in replication AD) site.

Given that the bulk of failovers will actually failovers of test on the test network, how to make an AD/DNS server in the failover of the test?   Is it acceptable to replicate AD/DNS via SRM for purposes of test failovers?   If so, how would be to change the IP address on the test without problem AD/DNS Failover?  Also, I can create a test failover that includes VM AD/DNS and exclude the recovery plan even when to run in failover mode?

    Thank you

By creating a script of MRS who clone the DC on the recovering site, then it adds to the bubble test VLAN for the stimulus plan.

  • DR IP customizer: error on line number '17': the number of columns specified is incorrect.

    Hello

I work with MRS 4.1 and trying to customizations ip configuration for my virtual machines guests on the recovering site (approx. 100 guests).  I've updated the CSV (generated from the order of Dr. - ip - customizer.exe) with all the necessary network information.  But when I try and upload it to my site SRM recovery server, I get the following error:

Error on line number '17': the number of columns specified is incorrect.

    Is the command I use to download: Dr. - ip - customizer.exe - cfg... create csv - c:\srmip.csv - cmd \config\vmware-Dr.xml

I found that if I change the csv file so that it contains 16 lines or less it downloads very well.  I have not read on any limitation of the number of rows in the csv file might contain so I think that there is a configuration that causes this behavior, but I can't figure out what that/where it is.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hello

something is wrong with your file formatting. A look at the image as an attachment. From the server6 (line 17) do not have the lines "," (comma) at the end of the line (and so less columns):

If I take your file and then open in Excel and save it without changing anything, all lines have ',' (comma).

Probably something wrong with the way in which you save the files (Excel throws several warnings when you try to save the file in the csv format, you have to press 'Yes').

  • DR-IP-Customizer customization specification fails on the stimulus Plan

I have problems with the customization-ip-dr tool provided with MRS. The use of SRM 4.0 and vCenter Server 4.0, the command generate generates enough empty a CSV file with only shadow vm names, vm and a 0 card ID by vm, while each VM has really several adapters and complex information that needs to be filled in the rest of the table.

VM ID, VM name, ID card, MAC address, domain DNS, Net BIOS, WINS primary, secondary WINS, IP address, subnet, Gateway (s), or the servers DNS, DNS suffixes mask

    shadow-vm-1111, vm-1111, 0,

    shadow-vm-2222, vm-2222, 0,

    shadow-vm-3333, vm-3333, 0,

    shadow-vm-4444, vm-4444, 0,

I then fill the table and run the command create/recreate, that succeedes in creating the specifications of customization, but stimulus package always runs and fails. My populated csv looks more like:

VM ID, VM name, ID card, MAC address, domain DNS, Net BIOS, WINS primary, secondary WINS, IP address, subnet, Gateway (s), or the servers DNS, DNS suffixes mask

    shadow-vm-1111, vm-1111, 0,

    shadow-vm-1111, vm-1111, 1, 00:50:56:38:08:11, 10.10.10.10,

    shadow-vm-1111, vm-1111, 2, 00:50:56:13:08:11, 11.11.11.11, 255.255.255.0, 11.11.11.253,

..... (continues for all virtual machines of 4 shadow)

Execution fails on step 5. "Recover Normal priority VMs..." with the error: cannot complete customization.

I'm not running a test of a race, but am running of the race, because I use SRDF adapter EMC who needs additional licenses / installs the plugin of the VSI and TimeFinder devices to perform the test.

So is there something wrong with my formatting or information? The tool should not generate spit a fuller csv? I have never seen an example with multiple cards, it doesn't?

    Thank you!

And if you perform a new analysis of the host bus adapters, VMs receive no State orphand or inaccessible?

  • question of Dr - ip - customizer.exe

I packed my CSV file as input for drip - customizer.exe, now I would like to use it on my

    the protected recovery plan.

The question is: at what point (step) of the stimulus package, I have to insert the cmd of drip - customizer.exe with all the correct settings?

    Thanks in advance a cordially

    VMB

So, you have created the csv file by using the command "generate" and then filled it with ip information?

Now you must run Dr.-ip-customizer with the command 'create '. This will be:

-create custom specifications (for a sysprep answer files) for all virtual machines listed in the CSV of entry

-attach the plug custom VMs placeholder that tells SRM to run the command sysprep and change network settings as part of the recovery plan (step "change network settings")

  • SRM - break the bubble, it break

Excuse the reference of Def Leppard, we test a SRM installation and good (SRM 4U1 on vSphere 4U1). I have the test plan works well between my protected sites and protection (thanks in no small part to essential work of Mike Laverick).

However, I noticed that when I run the test plan, the virtual machine appears in the remote host that is connected to a switch called testBubble-1 vSwitch without adapters bound to it.

So, I have a few questions. First of all, what happens if the VM protected in this protection plan uses resource that cannot be repaired by a host? SRM spread guests on the hosts in the cluster? If so, how the SRM'ed VM to communicate with each other through hosts?

Second, what is the best way (or a good way) to access these VMs to test? We are not stretching VLAN, so if we tell 10.10.x.x production and 10.12.x.x to DR, I was thinking about adding a VLAN extra (for example, 10.11.x.x) that is not routable between sites and then the servers protected to present on 10.11.x.x (and add a NETWORK card to the testBubble). Citrix can run from 10.12.x.x so that it will have 10.12.x.x visibility and be always accessible from 10.10.x.x (when running DR for real, that we would probably do what VLAN routable). Sounds a reasonable approach?

Hello. First of all, thank you to have the hand on the book - it is encouraging that people find it useful...

Obviously, the 'bubble test' will cause problems if used rigious testings - it is unlikely that an ESX host would have enough physical resources to allow virtual machines to be powered. As you say that if you have automated full DRS cluster then the internal switch that it creates is useless if VM - needs to talk to VM - B for the recovery to be successful

Try to see the 'bubble test' as a safety valve - as it prevents a VM to come with the same IP/NetBIOS name and cause conflicts with the original hours of stable production virtual machine... in many ways the bubble test simply allows people to 'test' MRS. rather than see their recovery of the EP plans due to the limitations he introduced...

So that means fundementally, if you want to test your recovery plans succeed really to the network address issue head on. Webreach VLAN chassis while desirable, are usually difficult to implement since it involves a close collaboration with the network "team" (which could be you by the way), and a detrimental change to the data/network layer which can be very political.

So current Board seems to NAT-ing the VMs recovery - so they don't have when they progress brough re - IP by a slow process of sysprep with perhaps of hundreds of comments customizations. It seems that the only challenge is that the NAT process is efficient and reliable enough to itself become a possible point of failure signal in a scenario of DR. personally, I think that adding a vmnic test tip switch is not ideal... and don't forget should be destroyed by the SRM at the end of the test - although sometimes they are left behind , like a bad smell when the stimulus plan "craps" out for some reason any...

  • Dr-ip-customizer

Work on making a re - ip environment and a certain success.  Specifically concern right now with a guest Linux, Debian 4.  The IP customization works in which is the IP address change, applies to the bridge on the right, that updates the DNS servers.  I find that it is not to change the IP in/etc/hosts, leaving the old IP in place.

Anyone with an any success with it?

    Tim Oudin

What MRS. version do you use?

In the recent SRM 4.0.1 your problem is mentioned as a problem solved:

"a problem that could prevent customization of intellectual property to update the file/etc/hosts on a protected virtual machine under Linux"

  • Dr. ip customization

has anyone tried using dr ip customizser to automate the MSCS cluster servers failover and fixing to create customizations for the virtual machines.

I've looked everywhere to automate IP and DNS mapping for Microsoft cluster VM servers where it has 2 or more NETWORK cards. but in vain. It did not work. Someone has an idea?

If someone at - it needs a working script for virtual machines with a vNIC, I am happy to help and also implementation of SRM with hp storage.

    This works as expected.

to apply for the side resource limits recovery, you can use resource pools on site of retrieval and mapping of SRM inventory to ensure that your VM recovered is placed in correct pools. Note You must set the pools on the site of recovery manually outside the SRM. If you want to apply a specific limit on a recovered virtual computer this can be done manually by setting the reservation/limit on VM placeholder. These parameters are then inherited by the actual virtual machine during recovery. Attention, when working with limits/bookings etc. Check your cluster on-site recovery ability/settings. In many cases customers do not have "perimeter" configurations in terms of size/cluster on the two site host. Also, the workloads that may already be required and are already being run on the recovering site should be taken into account. Most of the customers will usually be just recovery VM resource pools configured appropriately on the map, let alone by the vm settings and then use DRS to keep the design of the site easier recovery of load balancing.
