Stacking and trunking

Hello

I have a question regarding trunking in combination with the stacked switches. In my example, I have two switches that are stacked and stacked switch. I placed all the sales employees in VLAN 10 (put first in the stack) and the management VLAN 20 (second switch in the stack) on switches employees stacked. The servers are on 30 VLAN on the switch stacked.

I need to assign trunkports between two switches stacked in order to allow the stacked switches communicate?

Thanks in advance!

The ports that are used for the stacking shouldn't be junction ports.  They are only dedicated for stacking, and once the two (or more) switches are stacked together, they become a single logical switch.  Think about your carpet as a simple switch.  You only need ports of connectors for the connection between the battery and the only stacked switch.

I hope this helps.

I'm with vSphere and I a vSwitch with several groups of ports configured, including 2 assigned to VLAN ID and a network of management with no Vlan ID.  This vSwitch will use physical NIC grouped to route this traffic to a physical Dell Force10 MXL switch.  My understanding of the standard networking, a trunk port must be configured and VLAN must be added to this as labeled trunk port, while the traffic that has no Vlan ID is left unidentified and by default is the vlan by default (usually Vlan 1).  The attached picture is the topology I and I need to make this work, but do not have a lot of experience with Force10 switches and so far, it looks very different.  In addition, if it is relevant, the external switch in the diagram is actually 2 Force10 switches separated stacked, and there are two connections to the other switch (currently a 6224 not managed) between the firewall and F10s, which is a separate issue - those must be configured as an OFFSET on the F10s and the 6224? One or the other?  Or?  If anyone can help with the configuration for this topology?  Please help me out here.  Thank you!

Currently, the best method to get assistance and recommendations with Force10 equipment, is through the Force10 support group. They will be more quickly and accurately help you with this inquiry.

  • Conflict between Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and drawers of power on Tecra M5

There seems to be a bug in TosBtShell.dll and hope this alert could get fixed in a future revision. Possibly it will save others the effort that it has cost me to track down the problem on my Tecra M5 new. I had to give up Toshiba Bluetooth Stack and now using XP SP2.

When the Bluetooth Manager is running, TosBtShell.dll updates the element ' Bluetooth' beside ' send to ' in the context menu of files and folders. Unfortunately it is in conflict with the shell software improvement Power drawers http://www.dynamickarma.com/powerdrawers.htm that I defer to speed up access to my files on the computer. This software allows you to right click on a folder to view its contents in a list. Then you mouse to any folder in the list and give him also as a sublist - and so forth as deeply as you want until you reach the folder or file you want. Right click on an item in the waterfall and you get a list of useful options. However, if the Bluetooth Manager is running when you do the right click, power drawers breaks down and you must close and re-open explorer.exe to recover.

The conflict stops if you remove "to Bluetooth" in the context menu of files and folders. I proved this by using ShellExView from Nirsoft http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html to disable the registry key "Bluetooth File extension" [sic]. This key is associated with the C:\WINDOWS\system32\TosBtShell.dll and the CLSID {6BEF3D0B-53F0-4b0d-B91C-C19ED3D4C9D1}. Unfortunately the registry key back again every time that you restart the Bluetooth Manager.

    Hello

    Thanks for the information.
However, on the Toshiba Bluetooth page you can always notice whether or not the new version of the driver BT is available.

  • N2048 - VoIP QoS, data Ports and trunk Configurations

    Hi all

I am new here and also new to work with the Dell Networking hardware. I just need to some insights into setting up a new network, that I put. We use 3 switches to N2048 for access to data and VoIP. Each port will have only have only a phone or a client PC in different VLANS.

My question is what is the best configuration across all three powered to ensure that we have the optimum configuration for the quality of service for VoIP phones. Here is the configuration that I came up with this day.

    Global configuration

    VLAN, VoIP

    Voice port

    item in gi1/0/1 interface
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 5
    VLAN 5 voices
    Voice vlan dot1p 5
    output

    Client port PC

    access mode swithport
    swithport access vlan 10

    Trunk Port

    Te1/0/1 interface
    switchport mode general
VLAN allowed switchport General add 5,10,100
    switchport General pvid 100
    VLAN 5 voices
    output

    Thanks for the comments

By default, the ports are configured to trust the priority of incoming user. So for your switch connections you can configure ports and trunk mode, there is no need to set general mode with VLANs voice, etc.

    switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 5, 10, 100

    switchport trunk vlan 100 native

For ease of deployment, I suggest to all the other general mode ports.

    switchport mode general

VLAN allowed switchport General add 5,10

    pvid switchport General 10

    VLAN 5 voices

With the general mode configuration, you can connect a client or a phone, or both at the same time, in a port. This will make things easy if later you decide to plug a phone in where a customer to reside.

  • SG500X - stacking and 10GbE Uplink together

    Hi guys,.

I use a SG500x in native mode of stacking, using 10g ports S1/S2.

My question is, in this mode am I could simultaneously use 10 GB uplinks/XG1 XG2 ports? The manual is not clear at all!

If I can both stack and uplink at the same time can someone also let me know if I get the full 40 GB of bandwidth?

Finally I need a SPF 10 GbE module so I can run cat6 from the ports of X 1 / X 2 for 10 GbE on my cluster but network cards can work on which we're compatible!

    Sorry lots of questions!

    Thank you guys

Hi Sam, you can use the ports of the battery and the other 2 10 gig. S1/S2 are the default stack ports. The S3/S4 would be considered ports network at this time here, but can be toggled to use S3/S4 instead of S1/S2.

    The ability of the switch is 128 Gbps on the model of port 24 th, 176 Gbps on the 48-Port models. So, if you say a 48 switch ports.  1 = 48 x 48. 10 x 4 = 40. 40 plus 48 is 88.  88 x 2 = 176.

You should get the result you want (if you can actually use the link 10 gig to capacity, many Internet tele-conferences are not yet used to full 10 gig).

For the SFP capatibility, you can reference the Administrator's guide. It has all the modules support. Once you choose your module support you should talk to your provider of NETWORK card with one should work with your cluster.

  • Compare Dot1Q and QinQ with access ports and trunk?

    Hi all

How do you compare Dot1Q and QinQ with access ports and trunk?

    Thank you

    Sunil Kumar

    Hey, Sunil,.

    With regard to your questions:

    1. we have a case of Dot1Q configured on the port of access of habit?  If not, then why? - Dot1q aims to tag executives leaving the switch and access is opposite, it does not therefore not used together marking.

    2. how the topology would be for QinQ case? - For QinQ as I mentioned in my last post one side will be set to while links to access than others. A simple example is explained on this link:http://networklessons.com/switching/802-1q-tunneling-q-q-configuration-example/

    HTH.

    Kind regards

  • 3750 X stack and question wccp ACNS Content Engine (CE)

    Hello

I work with 3 3750Xs in a 'carrot' and we have a directly connected content engine (CE) on a WAE-612 CNSE ce612 - filtering 5.5.23.2 running web services. We use the wccp with forwarding L2 and L2 return with assignment of MASK.

The this is located in the vlan 1013 and is directly connected to the 3750Xs of base via po5.  Users are in vlan 72 a stack of 3750Xs in a closet of access that is connected to the base through PO4.  64 VLANS plugs on the perimeter (to the Internet) firewall.

When only one member of PO4 is physically connected web filtering works, however the web filtering does not work when several members are connected in PO4 and end-users are not filtered.  It seems the 3750Xs kernel redirect not the traffic to THIS more at this time.

Anyone have any ideas why adding members to the port channel seems to break the wccp functionality.  Would it be due to the "Battery cross" of the channel port?

Here are some details of the 3750 basic configuration s

  • How to uninstall TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack and all the drivers?

Hello! I installed TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack of [here | http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=download] or, more precisely of the [here | http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=download-toshiba] (8.00.12 |) Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / Windows 7 x 32 | Multilanguage) (_I have windows xp_). I tried to connect my phone with it, but it didn't work the way I expected.

As I did not, I tried to uninstall, but I had problems there too. :( I was able to uninstall it from the Control Panel / Add-Remove programs and I also uninstalled in Device Manager, but it does not work too.

It is more drivers, and they are all on my system: in my departure much I option 'connect too', in the Panel, I "Bluetooth Local COM" and Bluetooth devices Manager also lights up while windows starts... I had to remove all those things, but I don't know how? Help, please!

Also, if someone could explain to me how to transfer data through your Toshibas Bluetooth, that would be nice too - in this case I would not uninstall it. Only in this case when it seems useless to me, these drivers are only bothers me. They spread throughout the system as someone wanted to hurt me! xD

Thank you once again, people! :)

    * EDIT *: I now have to stop bluetooth manager executed departure while windows starts, so now it's less a problem. I don't particularly want some unnecessary processes slow down my computer. On the other hand, there is a problem that I have not mentioned - the computer restarts it self without reason in some cases. However, it seems that these reboots are associated with uninstalling programs - especially during attempts to uninstall toshiba bluetooth stack. Anyway I'll examine this reboot problem a bit more tomorrow perhaps it relates only to install/uninstall these drivers toshibas.

the reason for the change: I forgot to say certain things

I use laptops Toshiba and Toshiba BT for years and I've never had no problem to connect my mobile phone using the BT software. I use it mainly to transfer data (photo made by mobile phone).
It is so easy to make the connection between the computer laptop and phone so I n t understand why you have all these problems.

If you n t need it disable Autostart BT software.

    You have for Toshiba laptop?

  • 3424 stack and LAG

Im doing sort of a proof of concept, and I just want to make sure that this will even work on these switches, because I'm not finding a path in the web interface that makes it look as if it was possible...

I would like 2 switches on both ends of a connection of the battery and then use a copper and fiber run to a SHIFT to battery. Ideally, I'd put fiber as part of a battery and the copper in the other Member of the stack. This way if I lose a member, I always one connection through the other.

Best as I can tell, the ports of battery works very well in that I can get a master light on one and one ID on the other. But I'm not sure I see how to specify in the stack, the LAG exists in a way such that it is on each of the switches.

But with the LAGGY menus, it looks like im only able to specify the ports 1-8 and no ports G.

I'm too complicate this and missed something simple or and I just totally out of the way?

Well apparently my just stacking was not not display correctly... I made a start of led and was able to successfully achieve my pile of numbering.

After that, the interface switch stacked came on menus LAG and I was able to set the time to wait/priority/etc very well.

  • Reference Dell powerconnect 5524 cannot ping between coelio and trunk port

    Hello...

We set up a new switch of 5524 I untagged on vlan 20 and access ports where vlan 20 I allowed. I created a computer on the access port on the same trunk port ip net... cant ping beween them. I'm no expert of switch, so I wonder what I missed. I did the same thing on a dell old 3524 and it works directly...

Here's the port config I tried to do a ping beween is 6 and 10 ports

(Another thing, how how to remove):

    switchport mode trunk
    switchport access vlan none)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In safe mode the PVID is 1 VLAN by default. You can do this by entering the command #switchport trunk vlan native {number of vlan}. If Cisco is configured to accept and send the marked packets and has an IP address in the subnet of VLAN 20, it should be able to communicate with other devices in VLAN 20.

  • 5548 stack and LACP

    Hi all

First post here; so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong thread...

    I inherited a bunch of 5548.

I have two "stacks"; a stack of three (3) devices and another battery of two (2) devices.

The stack of three is a cluster VM and the stack of the two is the network/IDF.

On the side of the IDF, I have this:

    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/43
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/44
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/45
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/46
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/47
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/48
    Description 'link to 5548 vmstk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !

and in the vmstack I have this:

    dl5548-vmstk # sh running-config interface gigabitethernet 0/1/47-48
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/47
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet1/0/48
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    dl5548-vmstk # sh running-config interface gigabitethernet 0/2/47-48
    interface gigabitethernet2/0/47
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet2/0/48
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    dl5548-vmstk # sh running-config interface gigabitethernet 0/3/47-48
    interface gigabitethernet3/0/47
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !
    interface gigabitethernet3/0/48
    Description 'link to 5548-stk.
    Auto mode channel-group 6
    !

I'm looking for validation that this is a valid config...

vmstk item in gi1/0/47-48 goes to idfstk item in gi1/0/43-44

vmstk gi2/0/47-48 goes to idfstk item in gi1/0/45-46

vmstk IG3/0/47-48 goes to idfstk item in gi1/0/47-48

vmstk [1,2,3] are connected via hdmi cables stackable...

Should I have a separate for each switch port-channels?

Is the same port on each switch of vmstk channel a problem?

    Is this a SMLT/STI problem? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link_aggregation and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.3ad)

    SH interface counters port-channel 6

on both devices shows no error...

    Thanks in advance.

All these counters seem to be good. What config looks like the Group 6 of the chain?

Have we not different cables, that we can try with the channel group? See if that makes a difference on ports going up and down.

Configuration changes made during the timestamps in the newspapers?

    Thank you

  • Remove a switch in the stack and put on another battery, it will work

    Hello!
I have two different batteries, in two different place

    Location01
    STack01-> with dial-up dell PC8164-01 and 02-PC8164

    Location02
    STack02-> with dell switched PC8164-03 and 04-PC8164

On all switches, I use the same ports for stacking

    Now, assume that this scenario:
If the switch PC8164-02, which is a member of stack01 located in Location01 is damaged and I remove switch 04-PC8164 of location02 and connect to location01, it will be normally function and configuration of the reception of the other switch in battery PC8164-01, and he will be a Member?

    Kind regards!

Yes, the switch will operate normally. When the switch is connected to the other battery it will see that there is already a main switch, since it has only 2 switches, it will become the cutout of backup, synchronization configuration and become an active member of the stack.

You will need to ensure that all switches are on the same firmware.

  • Stacking and align the pictures of the Moon

I took 20 full moon pictures with my digital SLR. I tried to stack them to produce a clearer picture with less noise, but its does not work. Can someone help me please?

Here are the steps I use

    1. the use of the file - Scripts - load files in a stack

When this check all two "attempt automatically Align Source images" and "Create Smart object after loading layers"

    2. Select the smart object

    3. go to the layer stack Mode - Smart Objects - median

If there is a problem in aligning the layers change the above to:

    1. the use of the file - Scripts - load files in a stack
Do not check not "trying to automatically Align Source images" and "Create Smart object after loading layers.

2 reduce the opacity of the layers and use move to align manually

    3. increase the opacity to 100%

    4. create a smart object from the layers (layer - Smart Objects - Convert to smart object)

    5. Select the smart object

    6. go in the layer stack Mode - Smart Objects - median

    Hope this helps

  • Ethernet VMware with Cisco EtherChannel and Trunking Question

    Hello

Trying to get our etherchannels works correctly with our network administrator. Here is our config with a few questions.

    1. as it is to create the trunk between switch and host directly, can I use spanning tree portfast chest edge ?

    2. when don't we use no ip address and when not for this configuration? I see online showing examples with and without it.

    3. in some articles, he described in access mode , while in others he said dot1q trunk mode. See here for the access mode. Admin think it should use dot1q.

4 Etherchannel is fully support and preferred extending from links on maps, right? Not all of the links on the same card?

5 is this the case in order to change the load balancing algorithm in vmware first or first to the work of cisco? I did first vmware. (IP-hash)

    It's on a series with 4 cards/blades 6500 switch.

Wow Josh. If only you had written documentation. That's the trouble with him. People like me get final instructions, because we're not the guys from network 24 x 7. Great documentation would be layout, the reasons to go this way or that way you did just. That being said, here's my summary based on this discussion.

    1. we have several VLANS that descends from 3 links on the etherchannel. Thus, we should use mode trunk because there is not a single.

    2. we have an another etherchannel with just 1 vlan (vmotion), but in all of two links. This should be the access mode. Or is it still trunk because it's the multiple links?

    3. I don't know what crash dump logger is, or how it applies to my situation.

    4. I saw the bpduguard setting before what exactly is the syntax to use for us? 6500 series.

    5. I don't know if our switch would deliver on that port. How can I tell? At this moment I have switchport setting in there.

    Thank you!

No problem for reference, the other question of documentation is one of the languages. Their word etherchannel on HP networking hardware, 'trunk' and has nothing to do with the discussion of port "access vs circuit", which they call "tag unidentified vs.

    1 Yes

    2. you would certainly make an access port.

    3. If your server never begins to have a problem with break, VMware can a copy of the accident for the debug log. You can see an article on setting up here: put in place the collector of Dump ESXi 5.0 | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs.

4 I'm sorry I'm not familiar with this model

    5. I think if the switchport parameter is here and connectivity seems to work, you can consider yourself safe
