"Stall" WRT54GS question

For those who know how to extend connections to my WRT54GS router, I need your help. I sometimes use this modem for three laptops, including a Mac OS X computer, two Windows computers and a PSP. Since this month, I have problems that could be managed, even if I want to use all four devices without worries. Any ideas?

PS - the PSP's Internet radio for my home theater room.

If you lose the connection to your router, you must upgrade the firmware on your router... Download the Firmware from here , follow these steps to upgrade the firmware of the device: -.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page. In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase...
Click the 'Administration' tab - then click on the 'Upgrade Firmware' under the tab-here, click on 'Browse' and navigate the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait a few seconds until it shows that "the update is successful," after the upgrade of the firmware, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned to the same page OR it will say 'cannot display the Page.

Press and hold the button of reset for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router... Once you have re-configured your router you should not lose connections...

  • WRT54G (version 2) Firmware Version Question

    Hello

Beautiful room here. I'm glad that this facility exists.

I have the router WRT54G version 2. Finally, I upgraded the version of firmware years before Cisco Linksys bought.

A recent announcement by the people of Black Hat (treaties in this article of TechSpot) about their intention to publish a validation tool to exploit a vulnerability of DNS rebinding on a great many routers SOHO forced me to check for the latest update of firmware for my router.

The interesting thing is that my router's Web interface lists the current version of the firmware as 4.30.12, but the latest version of the downloadable firmware that I see listed on the support site is 4.21.1. I'm not very surprised by this apparent anomaly. If I remember correctly, that firmware version 4.30.12 download is a beta that was supposed to fix a problem connecting WiFi to a certain type. If this version of the firmware was still considered a beta at the time of the acquisition of Linksys by Cisco - or a 'stable' later firmware version incorporating the same or better fixes for the issues addressed by 4.30.12 that had been produced at that time-so maybe 4.30.12 was ruled out.

If you read the article of TechSpot and the associated table of preliminary vulnerability, test reports, you'll see that router WRT54G version 2 is not specifically listed. Version 3 of the router is listed as vulnerable, and version 5 of the router is not.

    So, my questions are:

Everyone here is aware of information indicating whether or not the problem of DNS Rebinding vulnerability affects the WRT54G version 2 with the last registered (4.21.1) router firmware version?

If so, does anyone know if yes or no Cisco plans to release an update for this old router?

If the router is vulnerable and will not be solved with a firmware update I'll probably have myself a new LInksys router which is not listed as vulnerable. (Believe me, I'm not leaving this thread to bash Linksys. This router ran like a train of 24 hours a day for years without a single hiccup that was not directly attributable to the problems of the ISP. For the price, it's one of the best purchases of equipment I've ever done calculation. And I have done this since the beginning of the 80s when I was using a CP/M system and an Apple / / e.)

If the 4.21.1 version firmware for WRT54G version 2 is not affected, I wonder if anyone knows if yes or no 'downgrading' of 4.30.12 to 4.21.1 is likely to lead to a failure of the router. (I'll probably try it anyway. If it brick the router I'll just go ahead and get a new one.)

BTW, I use this router with the ease of remote administration and UPnP off and strong admin password that is changed each week. (When I always used wireless I used WPA2 AES with strong password, but I am all wired now with the systems running Debian testing).

Forgive me for talking to myself. I decided to just go ahead and "downgrade" of the 4.30.12 firmware 4.21.1 version - just because I prefer to use a version of firmware known and supported for this material. The downgrade has gone well, so no worries about this.

I'll look for news on whether or not this version of the firmware on this particular router is vulnerable to the flaw in DNS rebinding and acts accordingly.

    Sorry for the noise.

  • WRT54GS v1.1. DirectX Upnp question XP Pro 32 bit

    Hi all

I started having serious problems with my linksys router. I have the latest firmware v4.70.8

I can't host games for FS2004. Desktop PC is also XP Pro 32-bit (all updates) I searched the net and found the issue:

DirectPlay test results: failure at step 9 (Session creation): HRESULT = 0 x 80158185 (error code).

    FIX (Solution):

After hours of re - install the DX9.a from a cd of games I found that I still had the error in the DXDIAG tool. I checked my laptop that has a new installation of XP Pro 32 bit and it gave the same error so assumed it was not question DX... so read forums everywhere and...

If I disable Upnp in the routers firmware can I host and I don't get the error above.

Can someone tell me how to communicate that firmware must be updated to fix this?

    Thanks, Pete

  • Question to Linksys WRT54G password

I have a router wireless of linksys WRT54G hard wired to a mac and I use the router to get your laptop online. Everything works beautifully. Now I have an iphone that I want to be able to use the same network on. When I turn on my iphone it finds the router which of course requires a password. I'm going in what I think is the password and it is denied. I am able to connect to the Web page of the router and access all my settings. On the administration tab, there is a place to change the password. I changed this and entered a new password, but the only thing that changes is the password that is used to get access to the web page of Linksys. (the web page that I can enter to change and access settings) am I wrong to think this would be the same password to my iphone application?

Sorry for the long explanation, just try to give detailed information.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's the wrong password.  Look under your security settings wireless / wireless and you will find the password requested.  This will be a key/paraphrase or password depending on the encryption you put in place.

  • Questions and data speed WRT54G

Installation: Only WinXP Pro, Comcast cable modem RCA DCM425, router WRT54G Rev8, cables Ethernet, Firefox with Zone Alarm off.

Following the statement of the toomuchdonuts, I tested my WRT54G Rev8 to speedtest.net. I tested four times each to three different servers:

    A. within 500 miles of me

    B. to halfway across the country from me

    C. background from me.

Here are the results, based on an average of three results for each server, with and without the router.

    A. without router: download speed 19.5 Mbps, upload 2.3 Mbps, ping 25ms
    A. with router: download speed 27.0 Mbps, 2.5 Mbps, ping 25ms speed

    B. without router: download speed 19.2 Mbit/s, upload 2.7 Mbps, ping 70ms
    B. with router: download speed 21.0 Mbps, upload 2.7 Mbps, ping 70ms

    C. without router: download speed 17.0 Mbps, upload 2.7 Mbps, ping 98ms
    C. with router: download speed 19.5 Mbps, upload 2.7 Mbps, ping 100ms

These are very surprising numbers. Issues related to the:

-How can they exceed speed 12 Mbit/s for my service Comcast quotes?

-What is average ISP of the graph? The bar seems to be about 15 Mbit/s.

-How can be higher than those without the router with the router speed?

    Very confusing.

    (1) cable Internet service is a shared service.  You and many of your neighbors share a limited amount of bandwidth.  The city of 12 Mbps is what Comcast expects to be able to provide most of the time.  If your neighbors are offline, or limited use of their connection, then you can get more speed from your city.  In addition, be aware that the connection speed is a little art.  Different sites will sometimes quote significantly different speeds, more difference can be explained by distance alone.  The main advantage of documenting your speed is (1) to ensure that you get what you pay for and (2) have a basic registration, in which case your line never speed is significantly reduced.

    (2) I guess the 'average of ISP"is the average speed that other Comcast subscribers get.  This info is very useful because it does not seem to distinguish the 12 Mbps subscribers subscribers Comcast 6 Mbps.

    (3) normally, with and without the router speed is about the same.  Because the router goes faster, I guess that maybe the router generates more favorable package, or the moment of package size.

    (4) generally, the site that you sign in, your Internet connection slowing will go furthest.  This is because remote connections usually have to go through several relay points, slowing down the connection.  Your measurements show this well.

  • Wireless router to modem Homeportal 1800 HG 2wire Linksys WRT54G with questions

I have the Linksys WRT54G, and I'm trying to use it as the router to my modem 2wire Homeportal 1800 HG wireless.  The 2wire has four ethernet Sockets in the back marked from 1 to 4 and a telephone jack to connect to the wall for AT & T DSL service.

I have the phone jack connected, and:

    -an ethernet cable

-to one of the sockets at the back of the 2wire ethernet

-to the 'Internet' on the Linksys ethernet jack

    - and an ethernet cable

-to one of the ethernet (1-4) at the back of the linksys

-to the ethernet port on the computer

The Linksys is unable to connect via the modem and reports that it may not get an IP address from the PPPoE server.  (Directly connect to the 2wire works well though.)

    Who am I wrong configuration?

There is no side effect of bridge mode... It is one of the mode in which the modem function. When the modem is in bridge mode, you cannot go online with the computer connected directly to the modem... and you will get a 169.254.x.x ip address.

So after you convert the modem into bridge mode, you must do the PPPoE settings on the router to go online via router.

  • WRT54G V6.0 Web Based Interface question

I'm trying to set up a WRT54G. I ran SetupWizard which did not work.

I can access the Web Interface to 192.168.1.1, but when he appears (after putting the admin password), the page does not load correctly. The colors and text appears, but all tabs, buttons, and links are missing (including the button Save the settings). I can't go to the Administration page to restore the default settings or update the firmware.

I tried the pressure on the button reset for 30 seconds about 100 times so far and nothing has worked. I tried this on 3 different and executed my other computers 2 WRT54G correctly on all of these computers.

I bought the router about 2 years ago and I just opened the box today.

    The fixes are available?

    Thanks in advance.

    Fantastic! It worked.

    Thank you.

  • Router WRT54GS WET54G bridge question, the bridge to connect to a wired router?

    Hi all

I have a wireless - g LAN using a WRT54GS router.  The existing wireless devices on the local network are 2 PCs, a TiVo unit (using the TiVo wireless adapter) and 2 WET54G Wireless bridges.  A bridge connects ethernet wired to a network printer.  The other bridge connects by ethernet cable to a reader Blu - Ray Sony BDP-S550.

Security is WPA2-AES.  so far this works well, believe it or not, but I grew a lot older, making it happen.

Now, here's what I would do: I would like to add another device LAN cable where the second bridge WET54G connects to the Blu - Ray player.  The bridge has only an ethernet cable connection, so I have to find another way to get the two devices connected to the wireless LAN.

I have two other devices LinkSys, kicking around here that I can use.  One is a BEFSR41 wired router.  The other is a WAP54G Wireless Access Point.   If I can use one or two of those who in some way, I won't have to buy another camera.  It is the order of the day so far.

Right now it looks like this:

Router WRT54GS wireless wire WET54G bridge entry WAN router BEFSR41 son to two LAN devices.

I have problems performing this work, assuming that it can still be done.  Can I get this config to work, or what I need to add the Access Point where the bridge is now, or...?

    Thanks for your time,

    Big Al Mintaka

You already have a network working with your existing devices. What you're trying to include in your network is possible and can be done. Rather than plug the cable of the WET54G to the WAN port on the router, connect the cable to the router's LAN port. Disable DHCP and change the LAN ip address in the range of your existing network. It should work.

  • Question about DHCP on WRT54G

    Hi all:

Could I use DHCP for wireless connection and assign IP private for PC for connection wiring?

It will come into conflict with each other?

    Best regards

    Chen min

Yes, you can. You can have the PC running static IP and DHCP on the same network, regardless if it is wired or wireless.

  • MBP 17 inch 2.5 GHz end 2011 video-questions

    Good day to you all.

    Confusion serious, for me anyway.

There are and have had problems with the AMD Radeon HD 6750 M and HD 6770 M graphics cards. Suddenly distorted video, random reboots, odd shaped and colored stalls artefarcts etc., in the start of the end.

I happen to have one of those affected Mbps, a late 2011 model, 17-inch core i7, 2.5 GHz, the model identifier MacBookPro8, 3, model number A1297, EMC 2564. It's still fully usable, nothing wrong, but who could, not necessarily expected or, will come to an abrupt end as many owners, some of my friends have known and display these columns.

The site of Apple "MacBook Pro repair Extension program for video Issues" (https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/), I learned:

    products concerned:

    • models of MacBook Pro 15 inch and 17 inch made in 2011.

    • MacBook Pro 15 inch with retina models made from mid-2012-beginning 2013

I walked to my S/N MBP, it turns out that my MBP is no longer covered.

MacTracker 7.5.5 I learn that the MBP A1297 introduced in October 2011 and abandoned by June 2012.

Repair of Apple (for models non-retine) program talks about the models made in 2011.

My question: how about the models made between January and June, 2012?

Something has been changed or modified in order to get rid of the problems of graphics cards? Something like, say, update motherboard, graphics, a radiator, redesigned, more powerful fans?

For me, it's quite confusing, via this link www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html, I discovered that my MBP 17 inch out of the Assembly line the 5th week of 2012, factory C0, Quanta Computer China. I'm not the first buyer, I don't know who it was, or when it was first purchased.

What I worry, in other words is my MBP 'off-the-hook '?

Could someone shine some light in this?

With sincere greetings from continental Europe

    Khalid Hoogenbos

The original questions developed in some 2010 models with integrated graphics discrete AND who uses graphics switching. These have proved to finally have a DEFAULT MONSTER - a defect in the graphics chip itself. The problem was there from the moment when they were built, but itself has failed, until these Macs have been highlighted or installed the latest versions of Mac OS X.

In order to determine what was causing the growing pile of bad mothers replaced the field, Apple has developed the video switching Test (VST).

Trying to continue studying these issues, other issues appeared in some 2011 models. These were not the same hidden defects in the chips, but Apple has never revealed exactly what they were.

Some users suggested that they might have been problems with the excessive heat generated or process, such as the exact used solder type, or the amount the technique with which it has been applied, or all of this and more. You must be certain that all relevant updates have been applied, (if any) that these may affect cooling fan control.

When you see a reminder that is limited to a certain period of time, you can generally be assured that if your Mac does not fall within the time limits stipulated it is simply NOT submitted the issues addressed in the callback.

To be eligible for the reminder, your Mac must strictly comply with ALL requirements. It is a very small subset of users whose MacBook Pro of the time period appropriate have additional problems and will not start. They are NOT eligible for the free motherboard replacement, because they can not run (and therefore may not) the VST test.

  • Tektronix AFG 3253 USB question

I'm having some problems with running a test of long duration (100 + hour) with a Tek AFG 3252.  I was using a converter USB / GPIB to communicate with him.  For some reason any USB port down and he refused to communicate after that and the settings are pasted on the AFG.  The issue seems to occur at random times and after a while.

I checked the USB sleep on the port settings and it is not permissible to put he's asleep.  I also tried to use a hub USB powered and it does not solve the issue.

I will try to convert the right USB communications today or tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.  If I can't make it work reliability with USB I'll try Ethernet.  We had a problem like this with a range of Tektronix finally had to convert the comms in Ethernet.

Has anyone else had a problem like that?  If so what did you do to solve?

Does anyone know if there is a sniffer software and/or hardware that can be used for USB ports?  I would like to know if there are any detectable reason this port is stalled.

The problems get fixed if the USB cable is unplugged and plugged in the back.  I saw an article on the realization of a software new departure of a USB port.  Has anyone tried this before?  If it works, I'll have to make sure I can detect an error indicating that a reboot is necessary.  Is it possible a hardware switch that I can put in line with the USB port which will create the physical disconnect with digital or software control and does not interfere with the characteristics of the physical layer?

    Thanks for your help.

You run Windows by chance? I had a similar problem a while crossing a field of Tektronix USB. After a few hours the connection would be deleted and I had to reconnect the USB and restart LabVIEW to resume the connection. In my case, the solution was to turn off the selective suspension of USB in Windows power settings. My understanding is that Windows, in an effort to save energy, turn off USB ports apparently at random. On Windows 7, go to the Power Saving settings > change Plan settings > change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend framework. Of course, this might be different in other versions of Windows. If you do not use Windows, then your question is probably something different altogether so feel free to ignore this message.

  • Connection with a switch EZXS55W or a second router WRT54G to my router network WTR300N home?

I have a home office in my basement with my computer connected to a lan of my WRT300N router that is set up on the first floor and networking with three additional computers to the floor as well. I want to add 2 additional computers in my basement and wireless is not a good set upward because the signal strength is very low. I have great reception on the floor and even on the second floor where my children are connected from their rooms. My question is: I have an older WRT54G Router I use is more and want to know if I can connect it to my WRT300N using the lan line ran down in the basement which is connected to one of the Ethernet ports of the WRT300N? If so, how the connection and set up the second router? Also, I can use Ethernet cables to connect my three computers to the second router or what I need to use the wireless of the second router? I was looking at the switch EZXS55W at the Wal-Mart local and thought that was my answer, but after a search through all the answers of the basis of knowledge here, I'm confused on the approach to take and which one would be the best game for me. Here, any help would be great!

With the EZX you extended your wired LAN. You can still use the WRT54G to add another point for other cable ports and wireless access. Just do these 4 steps as stated in my previous post.

You can connect the WRT54G the WRT300N or the EZX. Basically, it's all the same. You don't have to turn off the switch before you connect a device.

If you want to use the additional wireless WRT54G, you can try to set up a roaming wireless network. Implement the WRT with identical settings as on the WRT300N wireless, i.e. identical SSID and wireless security the same (preferably WPA2) personal with a good password. Do not turn off the SSID broadcast on either WRT. Only the allocation of channels should be different at a time to avoid any interference. Now the devices should be able to move from one access point to another without losing the network connection.

However, if you perform this configuration test carefully. I don't know how it works if you have a N Router and a G. If this does not work, use different SSID on both. You can then choose which SSID to connect to on the client.
