Startup disk has failed - what are the options for replacement

I have a Dimension 8400 BIOS A05 running (if I can remember you corrrectly). The SATA C drive supplied with the system crashed recently and will no longer start up. I tried various diags, but they all fail. I also had a USB drive adapter to try to access the drive from another computer... the disc turns, but I do not see the drive.

I want to know what constraints and options are there in the choice of a replacement drive? (I wonder if I am limited on ability. The original drive is a WD740GD-75FLA1 (74 GB). Could I replace it with a SATA capacity more (I don't mind if the replacement is a WD drive again or not.)

And, keeping in mind the BIOS, I must update that when I replace the HARD drive?

In addition, this good old machine still runs XP SP3 and I plan to switch to Win 7 at the time of the installation of the new disc. Points to consider regarding the choice of the player?

BTW - some time after the purchase of this PCI added a second drive hard - one 250 GB SATA drive. Do I need considered as in the choice of the total capacity of the disk online, I will be once the new drive arrives? Oh, and although I don't speak of this second disc - it works fine with the USB adapter so my problem looks like most likely to be a disk problem rather than say, a question of power cable or block.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Andy

Any standard desktop SATA drive under 2 t fine - having said that, what you have now is a WD Raptor 10 K RPM drive.   They are now called Velociraptor - if you are looking for this level of performance of the player, they are the only SATA 10 K rpm disks designed to use desktop.

    Linda, welcome to the forum.

I suggest try Windows Fax and Scan (Control Panel / devices and printers / Fax) to see if it does what you need.  It allows to send and receive faxes without a fax machine.  When you click fax it will open and give you instructions on how to configure the application.

  • What are the options for 3 bit for Hw_Arm_Sel in PCI-6601 field

    Hello

I'm programming our own driver to operate the PCI-6601. For our application, we need option arms material. I know, it is possible to use 2 counters for this, but NEITHER-TIO also supports hw_arm. Although it is not explained in the registration document at all, after some tedious verification in the DDK examples I found that the pieces are in the Gi register metering mode. I know that the position of the HW_enable as well as the position of the 3 options sellect bits PIN. What I don't know is what are the options of 3 bits for Hw_Arm_Sel field. I contacted the support NEITHER, but received no support. How can NEITHER sell boards and when a customer who doesn't use LAbview or Measurement Studio, or DDK, but implements its own driver is then so arrogant at least of NOR? Also, how can OR publish only a part of the records of the Board of support and when a customer contacts and request for some records do not get supported at all? I can't predict the missing records, and he is professional enough to document comes in part from records of 660 x Instruments. And, upon request, you have nothing.

I hope that someone from the community are aware of this Hw_Arm_Sel 3 pin option. Otherwise, there is just one option of the error and the trial. Or simply throw away the jury.

  • disk not certified: what are the options

I just installed a spare drive in my 2900 PERC 5 / i I thought me certified, but is not. It needs to be a hot spare for a RAID 5 configuration. What are my options? It shows as 'foreign' is the physical drives. The only available tasks are blink and unblink.

    Thanks for any advice.

PS Maybe I should go ahead and order a CERTIFIED disk...

WD blue is a desktop drive and not would not have been configured on the server of Dell.

If it's showing foreign and you do not have the option to turn it off, then the drive is bad or the drive is not compatible.  If your other are indeed blue (same firmware), then it's probably a bad drive.  You won't be able to do something with her in a foreign State.

Maybe you have already disabled the foreign configuration.  It is displayed when you try to configure a new VD?  Is it always show on the screen of physical disks after doing a refresh on this page?

  • Oct 2010 - what are the options for Cuda supported cards?

    Hello world

I was just on the Adobe Web site, and although they say that they update their list of supported CUDA video cards, I saw no change

    in several months.

at the moment (Oct 2010) what is the least expensive option available for options of CUDA enabled first?

    Thank you all!

    Dave.

    Dave,

Historically, nVidia made only the Quadro cards, both the GPU and the circuit board. These were sold as cards Quadro NVIDIA and extent limited by the PNY brand name, but always manufactured by nVidia.

All other video cards were manufactured by a third party who has obtained the GPU from nVidia and the basic specifications were dictated by nVidia. This is the reason that almost all third parties that provide any GeForce cards, Asus, GigaByte, MSI, PNY, eVGA, Point of view, etc. have almost identical cards, which differ only by security, cooling and clock speeds, but in large part, these differences are minimal, apart from the guarantee.

Recently, nVidia has decided to enter the market of GeForce too, where he used is limited to of Quadro, but that has changed now. It is generally considered to be good for competition, but only a name more in the long list of manufacturers, so initially the impact will be low.

To select a videocard GeForce, IMO, it depends on the price/guarantee. The rest is largely irrelevant. Even clock speed is a minor, when the tests so far do not show one more advantage of hearts or more memory, but which may be caused by the childhood of the EMT support.

  • What are the options for assessment 8 Captivate for the following scenario:

I have a Captivate project with five modules, after each module, I want to have mandatory questions (users need to take and pass the course) and the optional questions (the user can jump, not included in the final grade). I use Oracle LMS. It seams Adobe changed not limited to 8 Captivate quiz preferences.

I would like to hear from experts before making a long option. I have the opportunity to cut the project in five projects children with 5 quiz (with mandatory questions). take the quiz option questons as a sperate projects and organize them (learning objects) in the LMS to play after each module, where usage can jump.

According to Lieve, since you need to mark the various questionnaires separately, you must have these quizzes of CP as separate files... which, as she says, is again a requirement of SCORM.

You could put all the CP files separate together in one package with "Mode Multi-SCO" of Captivate, but in all cases I've seen, the LMS breaks those separate lessons anyway... so you will need to use the LMS to open one, go through it, close it, had him marked, open the other by the LMS, etc..

The LMS would be the "Main file" Lieve mentions.

If you do not NEED to see the scores of each quiz, you could put all the sections in a main CP file... then all the quizzes section would be marked cumulatively to display an overall score in the LMS...

.. .and if your LMS supports 'interaction data' you could report on the real answers to each question to find out how well a user in each quiz section, but that again depends on your LMS capabilities (and that data meets the needs).

Overall, however, if you need to separate the quiz scores in the main LMS interface, each quiz must be its own file. This would be the case with ANY tool you use, be a limitation of SCORM.

  • Change HDD to the SSD, what are the options?

Hi guys, new to the forum, I just bought a thinkpad x130e during a sales event on one of the local retailer, pretty excited, because I like the rugged design.

I am looking to upgrade to 320G HDD for one SSD 128G... but I have no installation disc 7 windows very practical, so, what are the options for me to install the operating system (windows 7).

I don't know if there is a way to transfer the whole of the SSD HARD drive? is there a trick to perform? or quite simply, I just bought the new copy of windows?

COS, I noticed that I have a windows7 pro product key at the bottom of my thinkpad, I kinda don't want to lose money.

    Help, please...

You don't need to buy another copy of Win7. You will need

1 SSD. It has to be is not 7mm thick, the most common 9.5 mm thick.

2 USB box for your HARD drive,

    3. software to "clone" the content of your disk to your SSD. Acronis True Image is a well-respected package that does this. There are also a few free utilities that can do this, however, I'm not familiar with them.

    Procedure:

    1. move the HARD disc on the outer envelope.

2 put the SSD in the X130e.

3 reboot from the HARD disk. (You need to interrupt the boot with the blue ThinkVantage button to specify).

    4. install Acronis (or equivalent).

5 RIP clone disk. You will have to tell the software how you resize partitions because you go to a smaller drive.

    6 restart from SSD.

  • We found no boot disk or startup disk has failed?

OK, so yesterday my wireless mouse is broken, I restart my computer to get it to work again. When I did, it has not fixed my problem, so I went online to see some solutions. When I went on a secure site, I got an alert on my computer and something about 2 programs being completed. It seemed was going to turn off the computer, and in a panic, I turn it off. When I turned it back on, it went straight to the verification of the startup disk. And it gives me the message: no boot disk was detected or the startup disk has failed. I got it a couple of times before and all I ha do turn off two or three times, and he'd turn out normally. It won't work, and I tried several ways to remedy. I clicked on F2 and F8 a F11, but nothing works, and I do not have a cd with media recovery settings. Any help would be appreciated.

When you request support, please provide the number of name and/or product of comprehensive model of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq made thousands of computer models which are all different. Without this information, it can be difficult, even impossible to help you solve your problem.

Turn on your computer and immediately start typing the appropriate key 'F' to run the hardware diagnostics or system on your computer. Then, run the hard drive test and report the results. If the hard drive has failed or is about to fail, you may need to replace the hard drive. If the hard drive is reported as 'OK', the boot sector, or the hard drive was damaged and the operating system must be repaired or reinstalled.

You may need to use your HP recovery disks to solve each problem above. If you create your personal series of HP, as suggested by HP recovery disks when you configure your computer... you will need to order a series.

  • What are the specifications for an inspiron 3000 11 touchscreen?

Myself and others have on a mission to find a stylus that works with this 2 in 1 and so far not had much luck.  The squishy tip pen that I got for my phone does not work.  One of these somewhat new metal stylus with the small round disc on the end works fine on my phone, but not on the inspiron with or without a screen protector.  I had an active stylus for motorola with a battery that someone suggested, it does what intermiittingly but I guess the fact that it works at all should give me some hope.  What are the specifications for the touchscreen on the 3135?  I read that a thick cover as glass can affect if the pen works or not as well as screen protection.  I found a couple of stylus that claim to have the adjustable power so they should work with coatings of glass and screen protection.  Pen digital universal Adrien, adjustable overdrive and navitech are all meant to be active stylus which have two power settings.  I asked in the faq, but nobody can say if it works on the inspiron and the manufacturer says they have not tested either.  While I hate to spend 30 dollars on something like that without knowing that it will work 100%, I ordered one of the navitech off amazon because I can go back if I want to.  I poured everything I can find on this machine, but nowhere does anyone give any details about the touch screen.  I know that this is not intended to be a stamp artist drawing or anything other than the simple ability to interact with small buttons on the screen or the digital signature casual or simple drawing hand is the main reasons I want a small pen tip.  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy this machine, but I don't understand why material for touch screen specifications seem to be such a mystery tech dark and deep.  This is perhaps because Dell has more than one supplier... I guess it could be both one reason than others.  Even if we can talk only about basic general information is probably more than I've found so far.

  • What are the reasons for blocking a thread?

There is a question in the PL/SQL forum, that as is often the case, is not to the point. I asked for more information, and the OP provided. Now, I know what the OP really intends to ask, and I can answer.

Or at least I could answer, except that the thread is now locked: ' this thread is locked - replies are not allowed. " According to the FAQ, this means that a moderator has locked the question. But why? Why block this issue and not the other threads of the same buggy? If the lock is due to an offence on the part of the OP, why not just delete?

In short, why hang on to a question without a question? Is it zap and slightly reduce noise in the forum, or unblock and allow for a response.

At the very least, a policy of blocking issues without apparent reason or explanation undermines the role of contributors.
