Supply in host failure detection

I have written a test for feeds on my 5.5 ESX hosts. It tests whether the power is reduced to zero watts.

I will use it, then fire a stop appropriate if raw power is lost.

Harware: HP Proliant DL360p Gen8

ESXi Build: 5.5.0 2456374

# Script to detect if a diet does not have any juice.

# Normally DL360p Gen 8 sensors 0.53 or 0.54

# Tim 15/04/2015

# Version 1.0

SENSOR = $1

POWER_IN = "/ bin/esxcli material ipmi sdr list |" grep ' ^ $SENSOR ' | Cut - c65 - 67'

POWER_OUT = "/ bin/esxcli material ipmi sdr list |" grep ' ^ $SENSOR ' | Cut - c96 - 98'

If [$POWER_OUT - eq 0]

then

echo ZERO POWER OUT

Output 1

FI

output

Is there a better way to this script?

I thought that this, but then why stop the host? -If anything, I think it would be better to replace the mode of vMotion & maintenance PSU or trigger failed before anything else?

That said, the script seems correct, I'd be looking in the porter to PowerCLi however

  • IPMI error code 2900:0221 Power supply failure detected on PE R710

My VMware ESXi host recently took itself offline. When I was looking for the root cause, I ran a diagnostic test on my R710 EP and the following error is generated:

    Error code: 2900:0221.
MSG: IPMI - : power supply: sensor power supply (status) failure detected 'PS 2 '.

The given error code and message can serve as Support to help diagnose the problem.
    Want to continue his tests?

    -end of the error message-

I saw a post online to update the BIOS and firmware, I did. We are now running BIOS version 6.4.0. I restarted the test with the same results. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? If the problem is indeed a power supply failure or a sensor on a feed, how do I know which one is bad? Lights on both power supplies are similar to the rear of the server. This unit is no longer under warranty.

    Andoven,

Error Code: 2900:XXXX is historical, referring to recent system errors. It is usually good to clear the logs of equipment before running the system diagnostics. Included update for your firmware firmware on the power?  I guess that your two power supply status LEDs are both green.  If installed, clear the logs in the OMSA and then reconnect the power supply on the right (2 PSU) and see what OMSA reports.

Let us know the status of the block of POWER 2 in OMSA and the current version of the firmware.

  • HA Question - why is there a limit of 4 host failure

    Hi guys,.

Can anyone tell, why is there a maximum of 4 HA host failure while we configure up to 32 ESX server in the cluster?

I don't understand, the concept behind this. It was even Vi3 & Vi4... Any ideas?

    See you soon

In a VMware HA cluster, there are primary and secondary nodes. A maximum of five main nodes in a cluster is supported by VMware. If you lose the five cluster nodes or more, it is possible that you lose all of your primary nodes. This is why there is a limit of a maximum of four host HA chess in a cluster. See for more information Deepdive HA.

  • Proxy node failure detection

Question about the proxy node failure detection to extend clients.

My impression is that, once the connection is established, you won't notice that this proxy node was missing until the next time that you try to access cluster (get, put, etc etc).
Or there is nothing like something MemberListener that the customer will be notified when proxynode disappeared?

This causes us some problem since we will be adding a map listener breast to expand customer, but we don't receive any notification if the proxy node has disappeared.
To resolve this problem, we are to implement an approach to heart beat customers who will have a background thread periodically perform cache get to make sure that the connection remains valid.

Above the approach has worked very well for the method of one-time replacement of node, since if the pulse failed, we know something wrong.

However, the approach of heartbeat create new issue when there is more than one proxy node configured in the remote cache of the client system.

    That's what we observed.

A client extension configured with a remote cache system has proxyA and proxyB as a proxy list.

1 extend the client starts by connecting to proxyA.
    2. extend the clients subscribe to ABC key for jesuca
    3 kill the proxyA process.
    4. the wire heart rate control background make a heartbeat can jesuca. It seems that during this operation of cacheX.get (), coherence will automatically create a new connection to proxyB. Our application doesn't even notice that there is a switch of proxy node.

Now the question is whether an ABC key update occurred between steps 3 and 4. Our application does receive any notification at all. And we don't even notice there's a new connection created for a different proxynode at all.

Our business requirements demand that we miss no update notification entry to extend clients (unless all the proxy nodes are down) as long as there is at least one available proxy node.

Is there a better approach for this requirement?

To get events when your connection is lost you need to use a MemberListener

for example, you can use the cache that you have added the listener too...

    cache.getCacheService().addMemberListener(memberListener);

When you lose the connection range then the memberLeft method will be called on your memberListener and you can then add your listeners to cache.

    Failure ID is: RU76X3-6RG733-MFPWXF-61UB03.

    Product no.: F2C07PA #ACJ

I got my data saved, in case things go worse and I am trying to defragment the hard drive. but he's going to buy me some time.

can I please know, if there is any way I can get things to normal without spending money (more indifferent). and if 'no' then how much it would cost me to get a new hard drive...

    thanking you in anticipation.

As long as your laptop is under warranty you will be provided with a free of charge replacement hard drive. Have an active warranty is a good thing.

You will need the recovery media that you have already created to find your laptop to the State, it was delivered at once you install the HDD replacement.

  • State of the virtual machine after the host failure

    Hello

If a virtual machine is running on a host and that host suddenly powers off dirty, like a power failure or a remote access card power the server due to a fault, overtemp etc., what happens to the virtual machine?

My guess is the virtual machine is actually difficult, dirty off too and if HA is configured, etc it is going to do a full power on sequence. Or is it restart on a new server and be automatically in the same power state with the same States of memory and cpu until the host has dropped dead? So if I got a connection of the DRC in a vm of windows server and the host dies suddenly and it restarts, reconnect to the session even State immediately before the breaking of the host?

    Thank you

When ESX\ESXi fails due to power failure:

    No configured HA:

    1. all virtual machines is also faces off against the sudden stop. SMV will lose data runtime and all communications (including the RDP connection) will be interrupted.

    Configured HA:

1 VMs will be powered - on on a different host. However, its the same as a reset of the virtual machine, we will lose any unsaved data.

  • Heavily laden prod cluster - manage a host failure?

    Hi all

Our cluster of Prod shows three guests in it with more than 90% the use of memory, I need to patch to a single host taking sense ESXi 4.1 Update 2 out at the same time and mode of maintenance to apply updates, how do you think that the cluster handles this recital each host is already very heavily loaded?

    Everything will be ok?

    Thank you

    Stew

It depends on your reservations memory and the amount of memory is really active.  Some applications can survive very well--those with reservations of memory will continue to have their memory full, but those who don't will be puts balloon and possibly swapping.

Start by looking at your hosts and see how memory is active granted vs.  If you have 90% of active memory, you are in trouble.  If you have a granted 90% but only 40 or 50% active, you can survive very well, the edit window.

I also assume that clients are configured according to best practice documents.  For example, customers Java and SQL have memory well-positioned reservations.  If you don't have them, you can run good now but switch when you are under pressure of memory (which you will be, as soon as the first host goes into maintenance mode).

  • What is the safe and recommended way to simulate a HA cluster host failure?

I would like to simulate one of our hosts ESX log to see how the cluster handles the load.  What is the way of VMware-recommended to do?  Pull network cable?

Basically, I try to simulate something as a complete loss of power to one of the hosts.

Disconnect the network service on your host console: this is the best way to treat your material.

  • iSCSI without vmotion - what happens if the host failure?

Currently, all virtual machines reside on the local storage to hosts... If we move VM to iSCSI and vmotion, high availability... How you would bring a virtual machine online on a second host if the host on which it resides normally fails?

Right-click on the data store and go through them, and then select the virtual machine folder and registry of the computer virtual you want to put online. You can also do it through the service console if you prefer the command line:

    VMware-cmd - s register /path/to/.vmx

<-this is all assuming you shared storage between the hosts.

  • ESXI free Version host failure - how to recover virtual machines?

    Hi all

I ran a VMWare lab at home with a free version of ESXI 4.1.

My server does not and I have to reset all the settings management of ESXI and I lost my virtual machines.

I solved the problem, but I lost the virtual machine.

When I navigate through the data store I can see the virtual hard disk for my servers.

Is there a way to recover these virtual machines?

I guess that I'm not the first to ask this question, so if you could point me to any page with some instruction, it would be great.

    Thanks in advance,

    Fabio

Welcome to the VMware forums communities.  In each folder of the virtual machine, you should see a VMX file for the virtual machine.  This is the configuration file.  Right-click on it and select Add to the inventory.  Then follow the instructions of the wizard and after the virtual machine market.  If your network configuration is the same as previously, then you should be good to go.

  • Host model missing Oracle supplied?

    Hi guys!

These days I read Cookbook Administration Oracle Enterprise Manager 12 c and its very useful for beginners.

While I was trying, monitoring model I found that im missing Oracle supplied model host, but I have another Oracle suggested for example next book to create in my host 12.1.0.3.0 host models OEM.

If this OEM version is related or is it something else? Can I use Oracle Certified model for host targets found on the contrary one?

    Thank you!

In EM 12.1.0.3 and later, it is therefore more 'model Oracle supplied. As you may have noticed, on the page of control patterns, the (search) option is "Models display Oracle Certified". The option used to be "display Oracle supplied models and models Oracle Certified.

Not having not the book you mentioned, I do not know the case. However, if it is to use the "Oracle provided host model" as a basis to create your own model host, you can use the Oracle certification model for the targets of the host.

    I hope this helps.

  • Failures of ESXi HA

    Hello

I have a 2 node ESXi (4.1U1) cluster and after activating the HA, I have constant intermittent outages, reported by HA. Usually it is one of 2 messages: -.

"The possible host failure has been detected by HA the host xxxx" or "HA recovered from a failure of the total cluster clustered xxx in Data Center yyy".

VC event display sometimes shows while she recovered, and that it is "healthy" and other times it remains just in what looks like a situation of failure of a red! next to the node. In general what is happening on node 2.

I tried to enter/exit the Maintenance mode that sometimes resets everything healthy but sometimes not. I also disabled and re-enable HA that works again for a day or two.

Today I removed disabled HA, deleted the two nodes in the cluster, removed the cluster object and added nodes and it re-activated HA. All reported successful but lasted only a few hours before that the errors from happening again.

I don't think that name resolution is a problem because AI can ping each other short use node and the FULL field.

Any ideas would be greatly appreicated as its driving me crazy

  • Permissions to host ESX Shutdown

We need to implement a backup recovery process that is to allow other members dedicated to administrators ESX, the ability to stop guest vm s as well as the in the case of an esx host failure emergency power supply.

I configured a new custom limited role that allows the opportunity to stop only a guest vm or turn on. However I don't find alternative in the list of permissions to grant the ability to stop an esxi host of in vcenter. We want that role to ONLY be able to stop the host and nothing more. I fear for esxi we must grant access to the console, but we do not want anyone outside our group to have the root password full esx.

So my question is, what options are available to provide access more limited to stop only an esxi host and nothing else? We have 14 guests that we are interested in. Not much, but I'm looking for a simplified approach.

    Thank you

I have asked this question before and posted the config on my site, but you will just have to add the host-> Configuration-> Maintenance authorization.  It will allow restarting, however.
