Maybe they have access to this information.

  • Cannot install Vista Business on Portege M400 - IDE issues

Hi guys... I am looking for your help.

I downloaded all the new Vista drivers avaiable from Toshiba in support of the new installation of Vista business on my old Portege M400, that came preloaded with a version of XP Tablet and kept their loan on a CD.

I also upgraded the version of the ACPI BIOS to the latest available 3.80.

I insert the first CD of Vista professional and do a boot. (I also have a n upgrade Vista Business CD but I want to do a clean install).
I go past the first steps and choose Install.
I am faced with an error message "no disk has been found. "Click on load a driver to provide a device for installing mass storage.

Looks like Vista is not able to see the IDE drive to the edge and it's a driver problem.

I touched the "Rescan" button available on the windows installation and another message appears: "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct driver, and then click OK. »

Currently loaded on the XP: currently loaded poster IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers like Device Manager: "Intel (R) 82801 G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers and primary IDE channel."

Hard drives shown are: Toshiba RAID SCSI Disk Device LD0

Pls tell, what new drivers since available downloads of drivers Vista for my model 400 ML PPM40E, should I choose here for my Vista installation recognizes the disk available?

    Hello

It is very easy to solve this problem.
If you would look on the page of the European driver Toshiba (Portege M400 section), then you will notice that a RAID driver is available for this model of laptop.

Impossible to install Vista because it cannot find the HARD drive due to lack of RAID driver!

You must install the RAID driver first and then you can proceed with the installation of Vista.
As far as I know the Vista installation accepting the USB flash key you can use this key to include the RAID driver.

Hope I could give some useful advice.

    Cheers mate

  • Portege M400: Windows XP does not recognize the 160 GB HARD drive

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Portege M400 with Windows XP Tablet Edition. Now, I bought a new 160 GB drive. This disk can be recognized within the location Phase Installation of XP. Do I need a new driver?

    Best regards

    Karl Weber

    Hello

You have to install and include the Portege M400 RAID drivers.
It's a bit confusing because little protégé M400 does not support 2 HARD drive, but the RAID driver is required.

Please check the Toshiba European page and download the RAID driver. During the installation of XP her you have to press the F6 key to include the driver from an external USB FDD drive.

After you have included the don t RAID driver format HARD drive because this will lead to the driver losing.

  • How to resize the partition on Portege M400?

I tried Paragon Partition manager (bootCD).
But when I loaded CD, Partition manager does not see the hard drive of my Portege M400
Are there special drivers or software to perform this task?

Are you using Vista or XP OS?

If you are using Vista OS, you can change the size of partition n disk management
Simply reduce the existing partition and then create a new free space or simply add the free space to another partition.

If you are using the XP I would recommend using the tool called Partition Magic 8.

    Hello

Eventually the partitions that appear on the HARD disk is corrupted.
I couldn't install the OS on my laptop because the partitions have been confues up, I don t know why, but I couldn't format the HARD drive using the recovery disk.

Finally, I took the Windows XP disc and formatted the whole HARD drive and deleted all partitions on the HARD drive. Then I installed Windows XP by using the Microsoft disk.
After that, I made the recovery disc and installed the operating system using the Toshiba disc.
Then, it was possible to reinstall the OS.

Notes; The M400 seems supported RAID and therefore, you need to install the RAID driver first!

For any problem, reinstall Vista, contact the manufacturer of your laptop.

Here is the General info on reinstallation of Vista:

Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Picking and Portege M400 displacement causes the crash and locking of the

I have a new problem with Portege M400, which began a few days ago.

If I pick it up or move it, then it will crash or lock up. I wonder if anyone has any idea as to what may be the cause of this and what can be done?
My only guess is to replace the hard drive?

    Thank you
    Greg

    > Turn off accelerometer does not help. Internet research indicates that it is possible a motherboard problem. Replacement motherboard solves problems for about 6 months to a year, then it returns.

I doubt that it could be a motherboard problem, what the gbaniseter say this happens when it pick up or move the m400, then it will crash or lock up.
This seems to be a problem of HARD drive and it s nothing uncommon who, after a long period of use of the disk HARD start HARD drive malfunction is a sensitive device and can die because of the physical restraint
Replace the HARD drive and check if the problem would happen!

  • Portege M400 - Windows XP cannot find the hard drive

    Hello

Ive got a Portege M400 who im looking to get a new one, I never had the Tablet XP CD so im trying to install using an XP Pro disk, but whenever I get no hard drive can be detected and I tried another disc of publishing house also.

Ive looked for SCSI / SATA drivers but can only find RAID drivers which are not good for me.

I hope someone can help me

    Thank you

    Hi wacksonjackson,

Why these RAID drivers are not good for you? Windows XP requires RAID drivers if your laptop is RAID controller and there is no other choice to install XP from a normal Windows XP disc. Then download the RAID drivers on the official website of Toshiba. Either you create a new installation with the RAID drivers disc using nLite freeware tool or you copy the drivers on an external USB FDD and load them during the installation of XP.

Also check similar topics here in the forum. You will find hundreds of similar topics on SATA and RAID drivers.

  • Modem will not accept the drivers on Portege M400

    Hello

I have a Portege M400 built from a unnatended installation, which accepts all Bluetooth, Screen Rotation, etc. Disk utility HARD drivers but it won't accept and install THE modem drivers. I tried the drivers from the Toshiba tools disk and two drivers XP modem on the Toshiba site.

The modem is installed and works fine when using the product recovery image, but the drivers will not work after the installed unnatended be applied.
The unnatended disc has also included modem drivers, but of course, they do not pick up any.

Is it possible that I can get my Active Modem?
    Thank you very much

    Rob

You said that the modem is working after installation of the recovery CD.
One question; Why you n t want to use the Toshiba Recovery CD?
