SyncToy

(I read that SyncToy forum; how on Earth to get this dialog box allow actually I post the question here, rather than offer me a short list of relevance for a?)

Is it possible that the next version of SyncToy can show the ' last run at "time to honor the languages and regional options settings. This 12/31/XXXX American seems stupid and confused and don't go me to the 12 hour clock and the nonsense of AM/PM.

This seems to be a growing problem for the products from Microsoft. How is it so difficult to call the correct API to get the correctly formatted date?

  • My experience using MS Synctoy on Satellite L350

It is using the excellent and free MS Synctoy to synchronize the laptop and desktop computers all works beautifully on WiFi, but there are one or two oddities to know.

I'm just thrilled to have this machine works again. And what a beautiful machine. I can't believe how fast it is. My office is similar spec. around a 2.2 Ghz dual core Pentium, 2 Gb RAM etc, but the little Toshiba is much, much faster. And a sharp screen PIN as well. I think it's way of s of great hint that my desktop computer needs a complete reinstallation. Dell I have used for the last six months, or two is not going to get a look in.)

No problems as far as I am concerned, but I hope it will be useful to anyone trying to do the sync or backup on a Windows XP or a version later L350 or another Toshiba.

SyncToy is not well known. Curious. It should really be an automatic installation of Windows. It began, I think, as a beta only, but is now in full version. But you have to download it from Microsoft. Download £ MS Synctoy just type in a search engine, and you will find it.

It works very simply, from the point of view user s. strictly speaking, you only need an installation on the master machine that never should be. You set up pairs of folder to synchronize for example My Documents on your laptop and the same folder on any other machine. Wi - Fi networks are not a problem.

There are various, largely explicit options but the I'm going for is sync. All the files on the master machine new, updated or modified are duplicated to the slave machine and the clever bit, vice versa. The first copy is inevitably a lengthy process. In my case, about 6.5 GB. After that, it is very fast. It identifies what are its needs to copy files, and only those who are transferred. Whatever it is.

I got a little lazy and have Synctoy installed on my Toshiba L350, as well as on my desktop computer. So I can push a synchronization to another end.

Please be aware that Synctoy, in its current version, shall, at least on Windows XP Pro, Installe.net 2.0. This me raised slightly towards the top. I had installed. Net4, thinking that all earlier versions would be grouped in. They are not. Download installers for. Net1, 2.5, and 3 to ensure that your computer has all the angles covered.

Like Synctoy, why they are not included in the default Windows install is beyond me. Drunk, they are all free.

PON there we have it. My Satellite L350 will now synchronize form anywhere in the House or the garden via Wi - Fi. Or vice versa. Three clicks of the mouse is done.

The only thing I can't seem to synchronize is MS Outlook 2003. MS insist to buy the Exchange Server for this, which is annoying. I know that the ports in the software are here. My mobile (Nokia) automatically synchronizes with Outlook, like Yahoo! Mail. But I put t know how.

The only round (fairly easy) way is to export a .pst from Outlook file to a location of your choice in the folder that you want to synchronize (for example, My Documents) and then import it on the guest computer. But it's a slight pain compared to the progress otherwise Synctoy effortlessly.

Please note, that I have no interest in Toshiba, or any of the software mentioned here. It is just designed to help anyone wanting to synchronize. their Toshiba laptop with one or several other machine or vice versa.

(Kind words on another thread regarding my Satellite L350 obtaining go after a relocation complete. M. X. Merci again for all your help absolutely invaluable.

Nice to see you here in the forum ewen :) and thanks for sharing your experience with us! Marry Christmas!

Main question) I just run a preview of sync on SyncToy 2.1.  He wants to 409 deletions, including quite a few directories whose contents have not been altered since the last run.  Most of the large number of files that he wants to delete also was not changed.  I had that experience before when he deleted more than 1,000 files plus many directories in the correct folder, then when I ran it shortly after that, he the copied from the left (over 1 GB, via a (fortunately WPA2) wireless LAN, who took awhile to know!).

I run SyncToy on my laptop XP home SP3, the left being My Documents on my Vista desktop folder.  My laptop, Documents is about 17 000 16.5 GB files, and the correct folder contains the full tree.  But the Bureau's My Documents folder contains several subdirectories which are not in the left folder in SyncToy.  The two trees of My Documents are in the D: partition respective with the same structure of the D:\Cedric address.

Why does he want to delete directories and files unchanged?  Windows Network Explorer favorites using I can see and open files on the computer in front of each computer.  I have run Norton Internet Security on both machines.

    Q1: Yes.

    Q2: Yes.

Main issue: I have not run Synctoy between a XP and a Vista computer, but when running with a XP box on the left and a Win 7 box on the right, it is crucial that share permissions (read/write) are correctly configured.

You indicate that you can "see and open" files on the Vista computer in the box to XP, but you need to be able to write files (change).  Otherwise, Synctoy behaves as you describe, at least between XP and Win 7. I expect that Vista behave in a similar way.

The only cure I discovered is to remove the Synctoy folder pair, make sure that the permissions are set correctly and then create a new Synctoy folder pair.

  • SyncToy 2.1 - synchronized records are not the same

I use SyncToy 2.1 on a 32 - bit XP system.  I did a "sync" between a local folder and a folder on a mapped drive.  SyncToy reports no errors, but the 'properties' for each of the files are not identical.  One of the folders has 358 files (local folder), and the other has 359 files (the folder on the mapped drive).  There are also differences in the "size" and "Size on disk" in the Properties window

  • Planning of SyncToy v2.0

    Hello

I am planning (automatically run) SyncToy 2.0 to synchronize multiple files from 6 different users with the admin account I already managed to install SyncToy and rotate by hand on the admin account, but now I want to run it automatically on this one here: before you connect with any account before signing out and before stopping.

I have a Windows-XP Home SP3 and a Windows Vista SP2, with an external hard drive to copy the files to.

    So like this:

    Desktop computer (XP)-

External hard drive (Z: /)-all connected to my router.

    Laptop (Vista)-

How can I do this? Because I can not find the option to schedule the task before putting the computer power off or before a disconnect in the Task Scheduler.

Does anyone know how to use the Task Scheduler with SyncToy v2.0 or do I need to create a batch file (or deal multiples), to run SyncToy v2.0 automatically when:

    -closing
    -signing the
    -signing off
Two computers work with SyncToy v2.0, and I want to run SyncToy v2.0 on them automatically.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what offers the SyncToy help file:

Run a command line SyncToy SyncToy can be run from the command line to provide support for planning or automating folder pair execution. The default command line executable is located in the: 2.0\SyncToyCmd.exe \Program Files\SyncToy [unite_systeme].

The parameters provided by this command line interface are described below:

    • R - run all pairs of records that are marked as active for run all.
    • R [name] run the pair of folder named (folder that one pair can be specified).

    Usage examples:

    • SyncToyCmd r MyFolderPair
    • SyncToyCmd r

It is also possible to manage pairs of file from the command line. Folder pairs are managed by SyncToy.exe while planning is done via SyncToyCmd.exe as described above.

SyncToy does not support multiple copies of SyncToy.exe at the same time. If SyncToy is already running the task bar, and a second instance of SyncToy.exe is launched with or without any command line parameters, it will simply bring the already running instance in the home and no error will be reported.

    SyncToy.exe-associated parameters are described below:

    • d (= left, right =, name =, operation = synchronize |) ECHO | Contribute, [check = yes | no], excluded =, included =) creates a new pair of file with the specified options:

      • left - mandatory, provide an absolute path to left file
      • to the mandatory time - provide an absolute path to the right folder
      • name - required, provide the name of folder pair
      • operation - required, specify the action type for this pair of folder
      • check - optional, specify if the content of the file should be checked for correspondence file, the default is none
      • excluded - optional, specifies the filter of exclusion for files, by default, no
      • included - optional, specifies include filter for files, default settings to all the
    • u - remove one or more folder pairs, no user data will be deleted
    • -? Display help

    Usage example:

    • SyncToy d (left = e:------, right = c:\Photos, name = MyPictures, operation = contribute)
    • SyncToy - uMyPictures

  • Scheduler task does SyncToy as expected but Will Run On Demand

Vista Home Premium (32 bit), SnycToy 2.1

I tried to implement a daily local sync automated using the Task Scheduler and SyncToy.  I put in place a task in Task Scheduler task instructions of SyncToy.  I am using the command line option (..) (SyncToyCmd.exe option' - R) for all pairs of batch record.  I can run the synchronization to the application successfully, but the scheduled synchronization does not work.

    • The task is enabled.
    • I delivering the option 'run with highest privileges '.
    • There is no set of conditions
    • I am the only user on this computer and I am the administrator.  The computer has a password.

As time passes, the "next time" recovering the next day, but the Sync does not work and there is no error generated.  It appears as if he had run, but cmd window doesn't pop up (as it does when running on-demand) and files are not synchronized.  Nothing happens.

A test, I chose to program using the... SyncToy.exe file (without the - R) argument and the Scheduler will be launching the program successfully, but of course, is not sync.

Any ideas why Task Scheduler is not running the... SyncToyCmd.exe as expected?  Any help would be appreciated.

  • SyncToy 2.1 suddenly don't synchronize my EFS encrypted files

I have just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) on my laptop and desktop. Until recently, I used Synctoy 2.0 on my laptop to synchronize the files with my office. On my laptop, the files are encrypted using EFS in Windows; While my desktop files are unencrypted. SyncToy has done a great job.

Last week, I installed synctoy 2.1. Since then, synchronize with my encrypted files does not work I get the error message "unknown error... the specified file could not be encrypted." I have to decrypt my files so that I can sync, and it takes a VERY long time.

    Can anyone help please?

    Hi mbowles198 ,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Answers!

If upgrading from a previous version of SyncToy (e.g. SyncToy 1.4 or SyncToy 2.0), it is * CRITICAL * to make sure that all folder pairs are completely synchronized using the previous version before running SyncToy 2.1 Setup.
Do not follow this guideline may result in unexpected behavior and a partial loss of data when you run SyncToy 2.1 for the first time after the upgrade. All folder pairs must also be fully synchronized at least once just once the update is done.

You can install 2.0 Sycntoy synchronize the folders again after that, you can switch to Synctoy 2.1.

The article below explains more on this subject:
