Sysprepping Windows 2008 in VC 2.5

Nice day

I'm trying to find documentation on how to Win 2008 R2 sysprep. Has anyone encountered this or anyone has done this before? any help will be much appreciated.

Concerning

David

Here is a good guide, although not for R2, the customization process works the same way.  Create your model, then stop it.  Create a customization specification in vCenter and deploy using that.  The process of customizing VMware will do the rest

  • Windows 2008 R2 Sysprep

I built a Windows 2008 R2 model and want to deploy virtual machines of this model, my question is how can I sysprep Windows 2008 R2? I'm in vCenter 4.1 in Windows 2008 R2... ESXi 4.1.

    Thank you.

    Hello.

You need not do anything extra on the side of vCenter.  Just go through the Customization Wizard.

    Good luck!

  • Sysprep in Windows 2008 r2

Hello.. I created a new vmguest under windows 2008 R2. I'm ready to make the model, but do not know if I should run the sysprep process

    (found in C:\windows\system32\sysprep

before or after that I converted the vm to the model...

I think before given that this model will be used to create additional machines...

    Thank you

All you need to do is build your server as a base, complete, any type of machine and then set it as a model without running sysprep on it.  As the other poster noticed you can deploy model via vCenter which, if you copy the files on the vCenter Server 2008 sysprep (directions on how to do that here - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_admin_guide.pdf (pg 327)).  It will actually go through the customization process and run sysprep for you whenever you deploy from this model.

Don't not running sysprep before make you a template also helps because you can change it to a virtual machine, power up, make changes / install updates to it then it switch back to an extremely easy model.  This way your model is always day and ready to leave.

    Hi Andre,

so when I deploy a vm from a 2008 model I can customize the virtual machine, including the new SSID without any additional file to be copied into the directory of vcenter?

This is because win 7, 2008 and 2008 R2 have also installed Sysprep?

So I plan on building a Windows 2008 virtual machine, and then I want to convert into a model. I would then like to "deploy" a VM from this model. I know in the world of W2K3 you just copy the files in Virtual Center, but what's different in W2K8?

  • Windows 2008 model

I need set the default user for each user, I get the same profile in the windows 2008 r2 in EXSi 5.1 model.

I found how to, where he is said to use utility Sysprep before converting machine 'model' but I thought it was "deploy the vm model" function to use sysprep.

    C:\windows\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe  /generalize /unattend:unattend.xm

    OK, let me rephrase it:

Sysprep is useful before conversion to the model because it allows for the virtual machine in a "clean" State This means that even if it should go through sysprep again, using a Customization Wizard (in the menu where you set your IP, etc.) / customization specification, (screenshot here: http://www.alexwho.com/.a/6a0133f4036f7f970b019b00093755970b-pi) but you can also choose to simply "redeploy" the model just with plain 'don't customize' option in the deployment model.

In short, sysprepping any virtual machine for the use of the model is advised that cleans the system for its subsequent cloning - it gets rid of superfluous objects.

  • Models of Windows 2008

It has been a while, but I thought that when I was working for vSphere 4.1 a Windows 2008 with no model making of sysprep.   Seems I remember that there is no need to copy the Sysprep files into the sysprep vCenter folder.   It tells me that Windows 2008 needs to have the sysprep files copied to the sysprep folder in vCenter.  Is this correct?

    That's right-

You need not run Sysprep. Windows 2008 sysprep, it will generate a new SID.

  • Windows 2008 R2 DataCenter model

    Hello

I would like to know, when I create a model of Windows 2008 r2 DataCenter, I need to delete VM tools?

With the help of Microsoft sysprep is a good idea or better to use VMware Guest customization?

I have 5.0 vSphere update 1 install again today.

    Thank you

Yes, VMware tools must be installed on all the comments of the OS in my opinion.

For W2K8 and above, we use the VMware comments customization process, which uses the integrated to W2K8 R2 sysprep process.  So, when you are finished with you 'gold image', just stop it, no need for Windows sysprep.  Then, create customization specifications, before or during the deployment out of the pattern and use it.

    Good luck!

  • Duplicate the NIC GUID under Windows 2008 R2

I have created a model of Windows 2008 R2 and you can "Deploy VMS of this model" with her.

I can also use the comments customization feature to configure the virtual machine created from this model, and they get properly configured (joined to the domain, key license added, etc.).

The problem is that when I go to create a cluster with these hosts, it fails with the following error:

'Validate that Windows Firewall is configured correctly to allow failover cluster network communication.
An error occurred while running the test.
There was an error in checking configuration of the firewall.
An element with the same key has already been added. »

When I do a "get-wmiobject win32_networkadapter | "fl name, guid" in powershell, I see that the network cards on the two hosts have the same GUID.

If I make a sysprep on the host computer before making a model then I get the unique GUID but customization of VMWare does not work.

Either I shouldn't need to do the sysprep command myself (as for some reason, it's on the vcenter server) or the unattended answer file, I use when I manually sysprep has misconfigured options.

If anyone has encountered this error and is there a solution outside "deploy model, then manually uninstall and add network adapters.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The last step of the bulding your model must be to remove and uninstall your Windows Server's network card.

Before you convert your virtual machine to a model you add a new network card, to make sure that each virtual computer you deploy from your new model will have its unique NIC

  • cloning of windows 2008 R2 Server without reactivation

    Hi all

I'm trying to create an image of Windows 2008 R2 sysprepd using the vmware, but after cloning, I asks me to activate windows (I use a volume with a VL of Windows version license key). Initially, I turn it on but after cloning I have to reactivate. This occurs regardless if sysprep was run or not. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to fix this? I try to avoid reactivating Windows, so I don't have to start contacting Microsoft, after reaching the number of activations.

I have not been able to locate a post with the same subject, however if there is one please let me know where to find it.

    Kind regards

    Petar

Hi, I'm consedering you want to activate a single win2008 and run the copy of it on your exsi, I would well sujjest you take the cliché of the victory of the assets and close down and copy the [files vmdk and vmxs] folder with a new name and add the same file in vmx to the inventory with another name and power up chnge the ip and the name of the computer ,

    its a naughty meathod

  • Windows 2008 R2 server, Customization Wizard & activation keys

We are using ESX 4 u1 and deploying a lot of windows 2008 R2 VM

I created a model and a Customization Wizard customization file and everything seems to work except the license key. When the VM boots, I find the server are not enabled and the license key box is disabled - I provide the same license key that I put in the Customization Wizard and enroll the server manually without problem.

Is this correct?  -J' saw a few items that indicate the changes MS made to the activation of the ways windows 2008, you must manually enable each virtual machine that you create from a template.

Is it possible to automate this process for the virtual machine is activated as part of the initial configuration of a model.

I'm currently going through the same thing... The only thing I met, was that:

    http://briandesmond.com/blog/how-to-Sysprep-in-Windows-Server-2008-R2-and-Windows-7/

«If you expect to need to generalize the computer more than one»

many times, you can specify that the Windows Software Licensing Rearm

    program to be ignored:

    1. set the Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP\SkipRearm unattended installation

set value to 1. This option specifies that the computer will not

reset, and it will not be restored to its original, out-of-box state.

All licensing and registry data related to activation will remain and will be

do not be reset. Similarly, any period of grace-timers are not reset. »

Now, this talking abot deploying from a platform WAIK... one of the people said that it did in its VMware implemented and "it worked great"... but I don't really know if he spoke the WAIK lab vm system or the model of VMWare itself.  I now try the SkipRearm setting 1 and the conversion to the template... then test will deploy from there.  I activated the virtual machine is already using my MSDN key (this will be in my lab).  I hope that during Sysprep running, it leaves the active system.

The key in question is: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform and HKLM\Software\Wow6432NodeMicrosoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform.

I changed the two entries of SkipRearm DWord to 1... We'll see what happens.
