Windows 2008 create by using sysprep

Hello

I have an expereince on virtual center of windows 2003 living with sysprep, how can I do to windows 2008 where were the sysprep command do?

Thank you

Hi Andre,

so when I deploy a vm from a 2008 model I can customize the virtual machine, including the new SSID without any additional file to be copied into the directory of vcenter?

This is because win 7, 2008 and 2008 R2 have also installed Sysprep?

Thank you very much

  • Model Windows 2008 R2, we need Sysprep with vCenter

    Dear all,

In order to have a virtual computer for Win 2008 R2 model, I created a standard configuration. VM and then he converted model. Now when you deploy a new machine it, I use a customization of response file I also created myself. I'm able to get a new virtual machine, but I'm still not clear if running a sysprep installation is necessary in this case OR not, as if it was the case with Win 2003, sysprep files must be added to add to the vCenter server to change the SID.

Please help, there is much talk when I searched but I did find something compelling, some people mention after creation required standard VM and before conversion to the model manually RUNS sysprep and select "shutdown" choice, some saying Win 2008 R2, this step is not necessary, and if you use the Customization Wizard, the resulting machine will be its change of SID.

For example, while I read this link:

    http://www.vmadmin.co.UK/resources/36-VirtualCenter/114-sysprepdeploytemplate

It is said customization choices will be grayed out if files not found sysprep on the vCenter server, but this isn't the case with me, because I use to third choice 'customize existing and customization using specification', this link ultimately said also as 'Note: Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 use a new imaging method that requires no sysprep on the vCenter Server files.'

    Waiting for response.

    Thank you

Yes, this is the expected result when you use a customization specification - and there is a check mark in the Generate new SID.

When you use the VMware vCenter specifications of customization for Windows machines, it uses sysprep. This is why you must manually run sysprep inside the virtual machine.

    It is essentially run sysprep.exe/generalize.

  • cloning of windows 2008 R2 Server without reactivation

    Hi all

I'm trying to create an image of Windows 2008 R2 sysprepd using the vmware, but after cloning, I asks me to activate windows (I use a volume with a VL of Windows version license key). Initially, I turn it on but after cloning I have to reactivate. This occurs regardless if sysprep was run or not. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to fix this? I try to avoid reactivating Windows, so I don't have to start contacting Microsoft, after reaching the number of activations.

I have not been able to locate a post with the same subject, however if there is one please let me know where to find it.

    Kind regards

    Petar

Hi, I'm consedering you want to activate a single win2008 and run the copy of it on your exsi, I would well sujjest you take the cliché of the victory of the assets and close down and copy the [files vmdk and vmxs] folder with a new name and add the same file in vmx to the inventory with another name and power up chnge the ip and the name of the computer ,

    its a naughty meathod

  • Sysprep in Windows 2008 r2

Hello.. I created a new vmguest under windows 2008 R2. I'm ready to make the model, but do not know if I should run the sysprep process

    (found in C:\windows\system32\sysprep

before or after that I converted the vm to the model...

I think before given that this model will be used to create additional machines...

    Thank you

All you need to do is build your server as a base, complete, any type of machine and then set it as a model without running sysprep on it.  As the other poster noticed you can deploy model via vCenter which, if you copy the files on the vCenter Server 2008 sysprep (directions on how to do that here - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40_u1/vsp_40_u1_admin_guide.pdf (pg 327)).  It will actually go through the customization process and run sysprep for you whenever you deploy from this model.

Don't not running sysprep before make you a template also helps because you can change it to a virtual machine, power up, make changes / install updates to it then it switch back to an extremely easy model.  This way your model is always day and ready to leave.

I'm trying to find documentation on how to Win 2008 R2 sysprep. Has anyone encountered this or anyone has done this before? any help will be much appreciated.

    Concerning

    David

Here is a good guide, although not for R2, the customization process works the same way.  Create your model, then stop it.  Create a customization specification in vCenter and deploy using that.  The process of customizing VMware will do the rest

  • Windows 2008 R2 VM disk system increased substantially after moving from VM to ESXi host 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using vCenter Converter Standalone

    Hello:

I moved a Windows 2008 R2 VM from a 5.1 ESXi host to an ESXi host 5.5 using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The c: / drive system passed largely to where I now have to extend the volume.  Is this normal/expected behavior?  Perhaps the conversion/move creates temporary files I can delete?

    Thanks much for the ideas.

This is not the expected behavior.

Size of the disk is defined during the conversion and which will not increase by its own during conversion.

Now, you need to V2V, if you want to reduce the volume.

Yes you can, once installed and configured, create you a pool as usual.

  • Sysprep in Windows 2008, how?

So I plan on building a Windows 2008 virtual machine, and then I want to convert into a model. I would then like to "deploy" a VM from this model. I know in the world of W2K3 you just copy the files in Virtual Center, but what's different in W2K8?

  • Creating a failover cluster Windows 2008 on ESX 3.5

    Hello

I would like to create a cluster Windows 2008 on ESX 3.5.  As I understand it browse the forums supporting parallel SCSI as a type of shared bus was abandoned for Failover Clustering in Windows Server 2008.  To enable clustering, you need to use iSCSI on a target server.  Additional costs of license option for the introduction of a target server.

Is ESX 3.5 update to support Windows 2008 failover clustering?  If so, when?

Is there another solution that involves no additional cost?  I watched StarWind but the free version does not give us enough resources that is necessary.

How ESX 4.0 supports Windows 2008 failover cluster?

    Thank you

    Brian

In ESX 3.5, you can do a 2008 failover cluster with a software initiator in the node Windows 2008.

    For ESX 4 no problem.

  • Anyone who uses LabManger to test Windows 2008?

I was wondering if anyone uses PF3 in a test environment for the deployment of Windows 2008? I'll be able to create or import my Win2k3 DC VM'sand can do Dcpromo etc. mainly to create a path to upgrade to a forest win2k8 and restore if necessary in Win2k3 before forest mode?

How the LM3 deals with DC and Active Directory in the fenced mode?

    Thank you

    Jeff,

To anwser to your earlier question, yes Windows 2008 works very well in LabManager, which isn't a problem.

To meet fencing: I think the best way to do some tests isolated would

-Import your domain controllers in LM

-use a closed network, blocking traffic to

-fix all IP/DNS issues you have to import it in LM.  This assumes that your domain controllers cover several physical subnets that cannot be recreated in LabManager.

-Once the feature works, record everything in a library setting

    -deploy from the library

-start testing schema changes and the forest you wanted to

-rear roller is made of re - check the working environment of your saved library configuraiton according to needs

If I were you, I use LabManager as described above and focus on testing changes to schema/forest that you were talking about and not worry Windows updates for now.

In my LIVE environment, our DCs cover more than 20 subnets, in order to import it into LabManager is not feasible, without doing a lot of work to reorient the records of IP/DNS addresses for all domain controllers that imported, for the subnets used by LM.

  • installation of El Capitan in a mac by usb, but only using windows to create the USB

installation of El Capitan in a mac by usb, but only using windows to create the USB

I'm having a problem to install el capitan on a mac book pro 2009 has changed (dead) to an ssd HARD drive

I can't find that any information how to do this from a windows machine (now only available) of the old system had the lion as I was told and when trying to install lion line or wireless it says it isn't available now so the machine is stuck without an operating system.

If you are anywhere near an Apple Store, I would suggest bringing your MBP to and asking to help. For USB, you need to partition and format to allow to boot on a Mac, what Windows can not do. Then either create a bootable installer or install OS X on USB and then copy the installer it, boot from it and run the installer with the SSD as a target.

  • Windows 2008/2012 180 day trial can be used on Virtual Machines?

I wonder if it's in the EULA to use tests of Windows with commercial virtual machines.

I see that there are too many companies that offer these tests with their VPS service. I don't think it's OK. Therefore, I would ask.

I also wonder if the detail Windows licenses can be used with commercial virtual machines.

If I remember correctly, only the SPLA Licensing can be used on commercial virtual machines.
