  I have a XP box with a few applications I want to do in a virtual machine.  I have ESXI free running with several local and virtual machines and the data of the network store.   I installed the converter version 4 and could not convert the PC, so I uninstalled and installed version 3 with the same results.  I have attached customer newspapers and converrter of the last run.  If I look at the process on the area of conversion and customer ESXI, I can briefly see the vm name pop up in the list, and then he disappeared when the error in the conversion box

  You seem to be getting a failure when creating the virtual machine.  Converter 3 and 4 work the same way, that they submit the request for vCenter/ESX to create the virtual machine, as required.  I have seen where an initial conversion has failed once before or another conversion was at the same time, and we had to restart the running converter (Server source and converter) before the lock system was released on the data store.

  I'm trying to V2V an our old infrastructure of VMware 2.5.x our vSphere infrastructure W2K Server.

  I've done several servers of the old infrastructure without problem.

  Any suggestions for a solution would be appreciated.

  It looks like maybe the firewall on the server. Install the converter directly on the machine you want to convert, or temporarily disable the firewall.

• VMware Converter error conversion physical server running CentOS 4.7

  I'm trying to convert a physical server running CentOS 4.7 to a virtual machine (on an ESX 3.5 server) using VMware converter - 4.0.0 - 146302.  The server is powered and I start the converter customer and go through all the steps to convert the server.  The process starts and hangs at 1 percent.

  I have exported and reviewed the logs and see what follows in the agent log:

  I can convert Windows servers on the ESX Server without any problems. Can someone translate this myself and I would like to know how to work around errors?

  On the Linux server you are converting.  When the converter reaches step 3 Options display/change the last option is called Helper VM Network.  You can change this option and add an ip address.  The ip address must be on the same network to your default gateway on your Linux server.

  I am new to the world of the virtual machine and converted several machines without problem, but I have this error Windows 2003 Sp2 and it is very furstrating.  I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.0.1 on the computer itself on a local drive and from another machine on a network share.  Looking through the log, I found the following: "taskSpec, task taken 357 an exception in the meantime on the agent task ends."   I am trying to convert a physical machine to Windows 7 RC in a virtual machine using Coverter from VMWare. I tried an earlier version and their latest version, but the results are the same. I pass all parameters and all correct credentials and start the conversion. After 1%, I get the "unknown error returned from Agent VMware Converter". I enclose my log file.

  Are you sure that you have the required permissions?  I pulled this out of newspapers

  You are using a generic NetBSD kernel?

  so I think that it is similar to the Open and FreeBSD.

  hotclone is the waste of time - it won't work.

  Use Coldclone - or dd the entire disk - write a descriptor for him then and use it as vmdk.

  In the other BSD systems I boot first time in single user mode - as everything else probably does not work.

  This had already happened with another server (also W2003 DC), but the hardware was completely different; Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve this year here.

  I finally found the guilty service.

  It was pcmonitor monitor/remote control software. Once I stopped it is service vmware converter could get the capacity of the physical drives.

  It is rather curious because I made several servers P2V conversions using this software (so far the last one two weeks ago - the difference between that server and this one was that the first was not a domain controller).

  Hopefully this thread will help others in the future.

  I'm under vmWare converter version 5.0 and I'm trying to convert 5 hosts vSphere ESX 4.0 host. The converstion was fine but then it failed with an error

  I tried to restart the conversion but geeting a following error after hitting the button 'Finish': a general error occurred: unknown internal error. I tried to change the settings, then select same different volume to copy the virtual machine but error stil remains. I enclose the diagnostic logs. Someone has an idea, what happens?

  It fails to open the disc on the s-fs-1-OS data store. We know not if the other drive has been opened successfully. When opening a disk on the data converter store tries to create a temporary file in tmpdir. Error code 3 means "path not found" and it is reported when for some reason the temporary directory could not be created. It should resemble vmount-temp\vmware-logX under the temp directory curent.
