System and the desktop icons disappear

Running own Win7 64 bit home edition, no problem for months and now my desktop icons and system have disappeared.  I'm the administrator on the system, but have more rights to enable or disable the system icons, programs 'research' scan is no longer the PC, it goes directly to a google search engine.  Help, please!

I had shortcuts to programs disappear from the Office a few times of system.
Computer
Control Panel
Programs of devices &
and 3 MS games (Freecell, Solitaire, Mahjong)

So now, I keep a copy of these shortcuts in another folder on the desktop, so they can be replaced quickly.

It seems to be connected to this...
"If you create shortcuts from desktop to removable storage locations such as NAS icons will disappear from time to time because Windows 7 has a built in scheduling the task to clean up unused or broken links.

To prevent the currently running task you must disable the task in the Task Scheduler: Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Task Scheduler
Expand the tree in the left pane until you get to the Task Scheduler Library-Microsoft-Windows-diagnosis.
In the right pane, right-click the named scheduled task and click on disable. »

Step 2: If you are able to turn off the computer in safe mode, I suggest you perform the clean boot because your system in a clean boot state can identify if all parties third party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

    Hi akilsun,

This problem occurs if the function display desktop icons has been disabled.

    Original title: Windows 7

I installed windows 7 and the desktop icons and bar tasks are enormous, go to Web pages, I have to use the scrollbar at the bottom of page to see the other half of the page - he said could also be a driver problem, but don't know what I'm looking for - someone can help?

    Hello

Yes, well part of the problem from the point of view of Dell is the only "acceptable" operating system for the Office of series 4600 XP. So they have no drivers 'official' for any function of Windows 7!

But first I need more information on the video card. Try this (on the Dell site): 4600 system is supplied either with the built-in car video or a dedicated real card video.  You should know that you got.  Right-click of your mouse on the desktop, click on Properties in the next area, you see.  This will bring you into the display properties.  Now click on settings at the top right of this next area, click Next on the advance .  Now, click on the adapter on the top.  Just below the upper on this last box, you will see your listed video adapter.

You will need this information, regardless of where you get help. My best recommendation is that you go to the community of Dell and after a question here. Someone may have already found one, but there is nothing official since the operating system is not officially supported.

I'm sorry, there is nothing more I can do.

    Kind regards

  • the desktop icons disappear when I connect through a VPN

On my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, SP1 system, automatic reorganization and snap to grid are unchecked.  And I don't have problems with icons on a restart.  I have problems when I access my system in my home using a VPN and the DRC.

Sometimes when I connect, I find that most of my desktop shortcut icons have disappeared and the few remaining ones are reorganized.  It happens every time and I did not understand a common denominator as to when it occurs.

I copied all my desktop shortcuts to a folder on a different drive if I can put them all after they disappear, but when I copy and paste them on the desktop, they do not return to the same places they were in front.  Instead, they are lined up on the grid starting at the top left and go down and creating more columns until all the icons were pasted.

So, I have to manually, drag and drop them where I want them to be.

Like others who interrogated him about the desktop icons, when I right click on the desktop I do not receive a "Properties" link as shown.  I'm getting , sort by view, refresh, paste & paste the shortcut, cancel deletion, New, screen resolution, Gadgets and Personalize.

I also tried another solution that said"right-click an empty space on your desktop and Select the desktop icons.  When I right click, I get the menu described in the previous paragraph.  Then when I start to clicking on icons to highlight, the menu disappears.  If I pointed out all the icons first and then with the right button on the desktop, the menu and the highlighting disappears.

How can lock the desktop icons?  I agree with the donor who asked a parameter for "don't mess with my desktop computer EVER.

    Hi Jane,

Given that the problem seems to occur when you access your system from home using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) and RDC (Remote Desktop connection). I would like you to post your question in the TechNet forums for help.

  • shortcut on the desktop icons disappear in windows 7.

    Hello, good morning.

I'm back with yet another question.

I've recently converted to Windows 7 from XP Pro and have had problems. This last is rather strange. It seems only to happen Monday a.m.. The shortcut icons disappear from the desktop. Today - Monday - they have waited until between 10 and 11:00 go AWOL, but have been known to leave earlier.

I tried a few remedies offered online following (Yes, the 'Show icons' box is checked) and so far nothing seems to improve the situation.

I am currently using Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

I use the software on a Dell Optiplex 380 which has been upgraded to 2 GB of RAM - processor is an Intel Core 2 DUO 2.93 GHz - it is a 32-bit operating system.

I managed to find a number (KB 2670504) on the Microsoft Web site. This document or software fix or anything that was to offer a solution to the problem, but I wasn't able to find it on the Web site.

I can only say that I had no problems like this with the faithful XP software. It ran like a champ. But I guess time marches on.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

Hmm, that's strange. I wonder if you might have accidentally switched to Tablet mode, where the desktop icons would not display. See switch between Mode desktop and Tablet (Windows 10).

If this does not work, try to install the Windows updates and reboot your computer. I would also like to run a virus scan. Good luck!

You are right on the point that Windows 8 maintenance troubleshooting system check and remove broken, outdated and desktop icons not used your computer to make the functioning of your computer. Maintenance of Windows system sometimes automatically runs with your permission if it detects the system problems due to these out-of-date items on your computer. You can also schedule maintenance system to run and scan your computer at regular intervals.

It seems that by what you tell us it works OK in Mode safe as the system restore worked.

    Try this:

Download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware in Mode safe mode with networking:

There are many things that could cause this type of problem.

They may have installed more then an Antivirus, which is a no-no.

If the worst happens, instead of scrapping, back up the data and reinstall Vista from the DVD or from the recovery partition.
