System indicates 4 GB using 8 GB of RAM under Vista

I have 8 GB installed in my PC and they are from the same manufacturer.
I am running windows vista Business x 64
Runing (not more timed) 3.16 Intel processor
and a 9800GT 512 MB Nvidia GFX card
The motherboard BIOS are already properly set up aswell

The problem I have is that while my Properties displays 8gigs of RAM the rest of my computer tells me that I am only using 4.
Similarly, I have a program called Autodesk Alias Automotive. This program (while not its main function) is able to give me
to read on my equipment and other. This program also told me that only I use 4gigs.

I went through a few other discussions that their problem is usually only a limitation of having a 32 bit OS (not my limit)

Hi sorry I have not responded in a while but I solved the problem earlier.

even if my BIOS setup in a way the manafacturer says was correct. I have changed a few things:
Depending on the type of RAM, it has been set to [Auto]
I've changed that for the type of RAM I used i.e. [1066]
I changed that and 2 other settings nearly only option to something more precise as well.

now my msinfo32 reads:

Total physical memory (RAM) 8.00 GB physical memory 8.00 GBAvailable physics 6.70 GB installed memory
16.0 GB total virtual memory
14.8 GB available virtual memory

You were very nice and helpful, although the problem was just a bit of tweaking of BIOS.

    Have you already checked the BIOS? How much RAM show the BIOS?
    And what kind of modules you have exactly?

    Normally, it should be possible to use full 4 GB of RAM on a 64 bit OS as your laptop also supports 4 GB.

    Maybe you should also try updating the chipset driver. You can find it on the Toshiba site.

  • A few bookmarks do not show so I asked to restore (in the menu bookmark)-now all disappeared. What files are stored bookmarks in (in the system) so I can use time machine to restore from an earlier date?

    I do a lot of work on the web and I have a ton of bookmarks that I use to maintain sites. I lost all!

    I tried to install a new copy of the program and restore the file Mozilla from the library to the user (in time machine), but all I have is a white space where was the bookmarks bar! I also have a problem trying to re-enter manually all bookmarks. I can open the bookmark drop down, but I can't save all bookmarks. Firefox don't mark all new pages. I still all the passwords in the preferences if I don't want to install a new copy of the program and lose these.

    Are there other system files that Firefox uses that I can restore the backup to solve the problem?

    This may be a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Satellite C660D-178 file system fail to SSD using Linux

    I have a reproduction of corruption of file system behavior when you use C660D with disk SSD Kingston SV100S2.

    The level of corruption varies from corruption of the file system individual nodes to complete data loss (no data can be read by testdisk).
    Problem always happen after the restart, not very often, about once in about 2 weeks.
    File system failures produce both after reboot normal and have to reboot (power button).
    Issue took place in 15 Fedora and Ubuntu 11.10 beta1 amd64 x86_64.

    I wonder if it could be a hardware or software problem.
    Same SSD worked without any problem in another laptop.

    As much as I know the laptop was not equipped with a SSD drive but common SATA HDD.
    Have you noticed that using an old HDD SATA?
    What about the use of Win 7 on this SSD drive? Is it OK?

    To my knowledge, some manufacturers of SSDS offer an update of firmware for own products, maybe you should look for this update.

    I discovered that my operating system is old.

    When I try and update the Mac operating system, it misfires and does not want to download past about 2 GB (have downloaded real fast, pretty much stopped download spent 2.25 GB). Do you think that my computer is old or not powerful enough for the new operating system to download from Mac?

    Don't know if it solved your problem but try:

    Go safety start-Control Panel of configuration-system-configuration-boot system Administrative Tools - Advanced options
    Make sure the maximum memory of the option is not checked. If it is checked, uncheck, press on apply, Ok and restart.

  • How can know you if someone has consulted and used the default Administrator account in Vista?

    I was not aware that the default Administrator account is so easily accessible if there is no password on it. In my view, a standard user has accessed this and it seems that the computer is having a lot of problems now. Is there a way to tell? Needless to say I care that much personal info could acceded as well as commercial information.  Security, 3 administartors (users) appears in some of the boxes, and I only know 2 of them, myself and the default admin?  I'm a recruit of the computer and the other person is somewhat a geek so I could really use some help. I am the system administrator, but don't really know what to look for. I would really appreciate if some wiz could help me.

    You can't find if someone has consulted and used the default Administrator account in Vista. You will need to set up a password so that no one will be able to access the admin account.
