System32 Config missing or corrupted system file

My Dell desktop computer came with Windows XP Home pre-installed already and worked very well until recently when I moved it. Now, when I tried to reconnect it I get the error message system32 config system file is missing or damaged and the computer will not start. He says I can fix with the original disc, but I never received a disc. I tried to enter the Options Advanced Windows and selected Mode safe mode with command prompt to log on as an administrator to try to restore, but it will not connect and keeps giving me the same error msg. How can I fix?

You can restore settings - see page 57 in the link:
http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/systems/dim8400/en/OM/U70350LRs.PDF

It is a destructive process of PC Restore so you first need to retrieve your data.

To recover your data files, the simplest method is to physically remove the hard drive from the computer and place it in and 3.5 enclosure external sata connection to another computer. This makes the drive in an external drive and you can then go and copy the files to your new computer. You can then copy them to a key for the restoration of the computer problem when you have solved the problem that the computer starts.

If the computer that you use to post these messages is a desktop computer and it has an internal drive slot unused you could put the problem disc in the second computer as a secondary or slave drive to recover your data files.

You could pay a small computer repair shop to pick up the files for you, if you find it too difficult...

I doubt that it would be wise to upgrade a computer designed for Windows XP to Windows 7. Before you try this, you must run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see what is not compatible with Windows 7. My concern is that you would be forced to accept drivers Dell Vista and that your memory and CPU is not sufficient to obtain a reasonable return on the system running Windows 7.

  • Satellite M50: Windows did not start because of a corrupted system file

    Hi all.

I have a problem with my laptop Satellite M50. When you turn on the laptop, a message appears: "Windows did not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system»

I am aware of my product recovery CD-Rom and have inserted - however, I don't want to reformat my HARD drive as I have files I back (foolishly) not upward.

Is there another method to repair the corrupted file without having to wipe all files on the HARD drive? (I don't have an XP CD - the operating system is loaded OEM when the laptop was purchased)

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

Hmm, using the repair console could be a good way to copy or replace the damaged or missing files on the HARD drive.
BUT you need to start the console of Windows XP CD of original Startup Repair.
Without this CD, you will not be able to repair the operating system. The Toshiba Recovery CD contains only image files and does not start the repair console.

Now the question is; How to back up data.
You can remove the HARD drive and connect it to the PC second via the external USB HARD disk controller.
Then you should be able to copy important files on the second computer.
After backup files you can start the installation from the recovery CD.

    Good luck

  • Corrupted system files can be repaired. SFC/scannow can't fix

I noticed on my installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit that autochk.exe does not work when starting on my C: drive.

I checked my registry BOOTEXECUTE key and it reads as follows:

    BootExecute REG_MULTI_SZ autocheck autochk /p\\? \C:autocheck autochk *.

Autochk would not run at boot time.

I then ran SFC/scannow, it produces the following comes from the CBS.log file:

    How can I fix it?

    Hello

First of all, I suggest to remove the Chkdsk.exe or the program Autochk.exe of scheduled tasks:

Click on start > all programs > Accessories > system tools > scheduled tasks.

Click Chkdsk or Autochk in the list of scheduled tasks > under folder tasks > click Delete this item.

Also, make sure that the registry has the entrance on the right as mentioned below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager. In the right pane the BootExecute value autocheck autochk *

Then, schedule an autocheck and see if the problem persists.

How to back up and restore the registry?

    Kind regards
    Clement Kumar.

And I don't have the windows installation disc to fix the problem.

    Hello

1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

If that does not read this information

the link below is how to download and get a vista disk startup repair, which you can start from the

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send vista recovery discs

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

  • Satellite L40 - 18Y: corrupt system files - how to use the recovery partition

    Greetings,

One of my friends bought the Bulgarian electronic Toshiba Satellite L40 - 18Y (PSL48E) from a major retailer and insists on the fact that it came without any CD, but the first time he installed Vista.

After that some of his other friends have uninstalled Vista and XP for unknown reasons (he says that some drivers and patches were necessary to make XP work properly, I think he might have something on LBA48 and SP1).

In any case, installing XP died, and the disk share is the file system is damaged.
After I removed it with gparted I have two disk actions now.
1st row in the table to partition: ntfs share labeled WinRE (no hidden bootable)
(He has a stash of file RavMon.exe and autorun.inf which implies that damage to the installation of XP are perhaps caused by a virus)
Second row in the partition table: empty (installation of XP was)

Third row in the table to partition: ntfs share with data

The problem is that the first partition unbootable and act like partition recovery, even when I toggle the boot flag.

It is all recovery partition and how I should go?
I read in some messages if you press '0' when the computer starts the Bios it will start automatically, but it did not work.

A manual which was available for download for this model on Toshiba Support site the key has been specified as F12. It didn't work either.

I'll be very grateful for directions, solutions or ideas.

    Hello

There is perhaps a little change to reinstall Vista with the HDD recovery procedure.
Please check if it would work.
-Turn on the laptop and press F8
-Check if there is an option called fix my computer
-If so, select it, and then choose the last option called Toshiba recovery.

But to be honest I don t see the chances it would work because you have already removed the Vista from the HARD drive.

You must have read the user manual before deleting the Vista.
The manual (Chapter 3), said that if the recovery DVDs has not been handed over with Notepad then you create the DVD using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator (is was also preinstalled). The user manual also describes the above HARD drive recovery procedure.

However, the recovery DVDs can also be ordered here:

    Welcome them

  • Corrupt Windows files, startup repair does not, blockages when touching a certain area of computer

Hello, I had a lot of problems with my computer.

In the past months, if a tap some area of my computer when my computer is turned on, my computer has two answers to this. 1.) screen turning black but computer remaining on. Restart computer 2.). (This area is located to the left of my touchpad / touch area of my computer.)

If I try to turn on my computer, the three "signs Lock" light on my computer and the icon of a cell tower. The screen remains black. So that my computer to turn back once again, I have to remove the battery for a few seconds and put back in.

Recently, my computer wanted to check one of my disks for consistency. and on a different file each time, my computer is stuck on this one for a minute or two, then said the file file is unreadable / it is corrupt. It is then placed on the following, and the same thing again and again.

Another problem is that some programs on my computer take a very long time to load, as well as tabs.

Also, sometimes when I start my computer, he recommends that I launch startup repair. So I press on enter and it takes me to a screen that says basically that my OS is corrupted / not working properly.

I tried to restore my computer to an earlier time, and when I do it gives me an error message saying something about Windows files is corrupt and cannot restore my computer to an earlier time before the problem is resolved.

In the past, my computer had problems of heat fan.

It also has a battery problem in which it loses its charge very quickly if not connected to a power source.

I talked to a technician of the answer, and he gave me instructions to/on will my command prompt and try to create a new user account.

On the first attempt, he told me to type the following: net user "Test" / Add

The CMD response was that the password did not meet the requirements of the policy.

Then he told me to try the following: ' user 'Test' net account / add ".

The response was that «the system is not the specified path»

Finally he told me to try the following: net user administrator / Active: Yes

The answer was: "the user name was not found. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2221.

Technology reply told me that the problem was more complex than he thought and said he had to do a session of access on my computer. He told me about the tax of $149.99 and I told him that I couldn't do it.

Now, I came to the community in the hope of help.

Thank you for your help, it's greatly appreciated! :)

Is a kind of grinding noise when the system is turned on. I cleaned up and it is a fairly new system, so I do not think that it should be replaced. What is a software problem? And is there a way to repair the keys that are unresponsive outside replacement. The guy who cleaned the fan forgot something in the screwdriver system directly or very loose keys does not. I removed, but the keys do not work

    Hello Pierre,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have with the corrupted in the computer and other multiple issues in the computer files. Don't worry, we're here to help when fixing these issues.

But I would like to know some more information on this issue to help you better.

    1. What troubleshooting utility did you use?
    2. When you get the ticking sound?
    3. Is that when you use an application or program?
    4. You get an error message while, key board is not working properly?
    5. What is the brand and model of the computer?

In the meantime, please follow the following suggestions to solve the problem.

Corrupted files may be one of the reasons for the system has as many questions together. So, you can try to manually fix the corrupted computer files and check if that helps. Follow the link below to do the same.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

(See the procedure below: how replace manually a file system damaged by a known good copy of the file)

And for problems with sounds from the hard disk:

    1. Noises may result from problems mounting. This is due to a high frequency in the mounting material vibration, or a drive failure.
    2. Repeated and regular, tap, grind or beep.
    3. Remove the side panel of the cover of your case and do operate the machine with the lid side for 30 to 60 minutes see if the noise subsides. If the noise disappears, your hard drive is probably overheating, causing the noise.

You try to run the disk check and see if that helps in the setting of these noises and to detect if the hard drive is damaged or not. Follow the steps below to do the same thing:

Run the disk check to find and fix errors on the disc.

    (a) click Start, type cmd, right-click on cmd , and then click run as administrator.

    (b) at the prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and press to enter.

Important: When running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area so all available data on this risk be lost.
