Systems running on separate drives, a single machine

Mac Pro MacPro3, 1Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz.

Have currently the system drive running 10.5.8.

Now, I wouldn't let it go.

I have 3 other sata drives which I bought just formatted and save your work for them.

I would like to know if I can install for example 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 on other readers separately and individually boot the disk with the operating system I want to work?

The performance of this machine is brilliant, so I don't want to compromise speed.

Is this possible?

Install new versions of OS normally, but choose a different volume when specifying where to install them. You probably have to install Snow Leopard to have access to the Mac App Store before installing 10.7 or newer.

Mavericks and Yosemite will be available if you already have from the Mac App Store or tell people about a physical Apple Store.

If, as you say, they are completely separate installations on separate hard disks, each with there own version of PS for example, there should be no way that they could interfere with each other! I assume you are using a form any of Boot Manager to load a specific version of Mac OS x?

I did something similar at the start in a similar situation with client compatibility and not had a problem with either interfere with others!

However, you share the programs somehow between different OS, so that would be another matter.

Some PC contains a hidden hard disk restore partition. If yours is one of them, this is how you return your PC to its original state.

What is the brand and model of your PC?

Yet, this is a pretty drastic step. There is more easy and faster to improve performance. If you do not want to give it a shot, let us know. And also tell us the specifications of your PC, type of XP, SP, etc.

Also, you might find follows her beneficial:

Here are the usual causes of slow:

    1. malware (malware). You need to rule out first! This page has excellent information:

    http://Web.archive.org/Web/20080610163247/http :// www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

    2. some programs aimed at combating malware (for example, Norton and McAfee). Ironically, they can slow things down because they use simply much too many resources. Sometimes they cause conflicts with other programs. And their default mode is to scan your entire hard drive whenever you start. Fortunately, there are other programs of anti-malware software available that use much less resources (p. ex., NOD32, Avast and Avira).

    3. too much of certain types of programs still running in background - with or without your consent. (Then again, a lot of programs running in the background of the consequences trivial.)

To determine each program and process, you are running, use the task (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) Manager and click the processes tab. You should be able to sort by CPU usage or memory usage for a good ideas that are resource/memory hogs. You must write the names of all the processes for future detective work (or take a snapshot and print it).

Use these sites to determine what these programs are, and learn how configure them to not always run when starting:

    http://www.PACS-portal.co.UK/startup_content.php#THE_PROGRAMS
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/
    http://www.AnswersThatWork.com/Tasklist_pages/Tasklist.htm

Sometimes, it is recommended to use msconfig to configure programs to run at startup. A better, more thorough program is Autoruns:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

But before that, you must use the settings preference of the program in question. Otherwise, for some programs, they will return to the list of startup anyway!

If you do not want to use msconfig, it can be accessed in this way:

Start | Run | Type "msconfig" (without the quotes). Enter (or OK)

    4. not enough RAM, causing the PC too rely on the pagefile. A quick way to determine if what is happening is to open (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) Task Manager, and then click the performance tab. Then the three values under Commit Charge (k) Note: in the lower left corner: Total, limit and peak.

The Total number represents the amount of memory you are using right now. The vertex figure represents the maximum amount of memory you made since the last boot. If these figures are lower than the value of the amount of physical memory (K), then you probably have lots of RAM. In case you want to study it more, you can run the Page queue Monitor for Windows XP:

  • Cloning of an external drive for Time Machine

If I want to create a clone of my HD bootable, can I use an existing external drive that is used for the TM? Or would I need to create a partition in the drive and the clone to this partition? Or, finally, if you clone a drive with SuperDuper! or CCC or backup Guru they will make the clone bootable for you? TX

    1. Yes, but you must use a separate drive; You can fail at any time.

    2. If you choose to use a single drive (see #1), you need to partition. The backup Time Machine will use eventually all free space on the volume, holding it.

    3 Yes, unless otherwise stated.

  • System Restore fills hard drive

I used Windows XP Home Edition for years, with no problems.  However, in recent weeks, I noticed my hard drive filling up at a rate of almost 1 G new data per day.  I didn't add all the new programs, so I suspected a Virus or a Trojan.  I use Avast Anti-virus and keep SpyBot and SpywareBlaster running and updated.  I ran full scans with these programs and found no problem.  I even downloaded a copy of AVG anti-virus and done a scan with it problems... No..  Then, I came across a program called 'TreeSize' who did a real good job to tell me what's really on the hard drive.  BIINGO!  It seems that my system restore file increases by nearly 1 G per day.  I had about 2 months, control in the system restore points, so I changed the settings about 25 g and lost most of my restore points... AND, my hard disk capacity has increased almost 20 g.

Windows has changed something in the month last about restoring the operating system?  I've never seen this phenomenon until just last month.  Now that I know what is eating my hard disk space, I can recover easily, but I think something has changed recently to cause this.  The ONLY thing I added to my files in the month were updates of Windows.

Even after many years, I have only about 20 G on my hard drive, so it was unusual when I started to see the volume of data up to 40 G.  This just started about 3 or 4 weeks... and I did not install new programs.

Now that I put the restore settings to 25G, I saw no repetition of this 'growth' in the past 2 or 3 days... so time will tell if this fixed my "whim".

As I said, you must set SR to 1 GB... No 25 GB.

I guess the sentence I have in bold above means that you have a separate partition for your data.  You don't need restore the system monitor this partition (disc) at all.  Retrieves a few pieces of Bert K site linked in my previous post (emphasis added):

    • System Restore monitors changes to the system and saves the State of the system as a restore point.
    • System Restore does not restore user data or documents, so it will not cause users to lose their files, email, browsing history or Favorites.
    • System Restore monitors and restores a set of file system and application, the States of these files before the change of the archiving system. System Restore also records a snapshot of the registry (Note: some current registry values will persist) and some dynamic system files.
    • Files that are monitored or excluded from the monitoring are specified in the file % windir%\system32\restore\Filelist.xml.
    • To restore a system, System Restore undoes file changes made to the files monitored, taking over the State of the file at a time of the restore point selected. It replaces the current registry with one registered for the selected restore point.

If indeed you watched a "data disc" and it was the system restore on this drive that increased, it seems that if one of the applications, which stores the data on this disk does not respect the following recommendations:

    • To make sure that your application has the behavior desired after a restore, follow these steps:

      • Be sure to use the extensions compatible with those used in the Filelist.xml file binary application key to protect. For more information, see Monitoring of file Extensions.
      • Do not use controlled types of extensions for files modified by the user. For example, if you name the file of personal data of a user using the .ini extension, the user may lose work because of a system restore.
  • Installation of multiple instances of Essbase on a single machine

    Dear gurus,

I did the install vanilla of the costume of Hyperion (11.1.2.2) products on my machine (windows 2008 SP1, its a Virtual Machine) virtual machine (I installed Foundation, EAS and just Essbase)

My first Essbase instance is running on default port 1423and I tried to configure the second instance of Essbase using port 1424 and all the donfiguration succeeded. I can see the 2nd service of essbase running at services.msc

I followed the steps mentioned in the:

My 1st instance is installed to: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1

My 2nd instance is installed to: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2

Now the problem is that I can add and connect 1st instance of Essbase (SERVERNAME:1423) using the administrator account in the environmental assessment.

but when I try to add 2nd Instance of Essbase as SERVERNAME:1424 using the administrator account, it throws the following error:

Can you please guide me what to do to access this 2nd Forum.

    (1) do I need to have a separate ADMIN user creation for this 2nd instance essbase? If Yes, then HOW?

    (2) I can just copy the essbase.sec of 1st instance of 2nd instance?

Can you please point me to a reference to have multiple independent instances of Essbase on the same machine?

I sincerely thank you for your time to this request.

    Best regards,

    Amit

Do not copy the file s multiple instances.

It seems that the 2nd day of the Essbase instance has not registered properly with Shared Services, you can try renaming the essbase.sec on the 2nd instance, erase the Essbase.log, resume Essbase, then check the Essbase.log to see if there are errors anyt'ing.

    See you soon

  • I have restored my hard drive for time machine

I have restored my hard drive of the machine after a malware infection, and now at startup, Finder opens the folder of DVD player. This does not seem to interfere with the normal operation of my computer, but I'm curious to know if anyone has had this happen. I use El Capitan 10.11.4 here's the finder window that opens at startup:

You tried to delete the malware before you restore your system?  It is always better to do this first.  In addition, the backup that you used to restore your system before the malware infection has been took place?

Edit: Go to system-> general Preferences.  Make sure that 'Close the windows when you exit an application' is checked.

  • Re: How to get the system running again on my laptop satellite

Everything ok and ongoing run (Vista 32 bit), also installing the update for Intel chipset seemed to agree,
but subsequently requested reboot does not work... and the horror began :(

No matter if the hard drive is installed or not, following events occur after passing on: hhd light indicates activity, also for disk hard desinstallion (!), in the possible bios by F2, dvd lamp is lit and portable crashes.

What has gone wrong? How can I get the system running again?

    TIA

The whole story is a bit confusing for me. I put t know how you came the idea to update the driver chipset if everything was OK. Vista is old BONES and it is unclear to me that Toshiba has offered some updates of the chipset.

What is confusing to me is the fact that you can not enter the BIOS settings.

When you start your laptop you see Toshiba welcome screen and the grey line down with info press F2 to enter the establishment or F12...?

What will happen after that? Display stays black or what?
What happens when you press F2, F8 or F12? Everything works? Can enter you in menu start or advanced startup options?

Try please start your laptop with the recovery DVD and press C repeatedly on startup laptop. Check if the installation of recovery will recognize.
Post please a little detailed report.

  • Can I run two separate versions of the LabVIEW Run - Time Engine on a PC?

Hello, I am curious to know if anyone knew if it is possible to install and use the two separate versions of the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine on a PC?  I have currently 2009 runtime engine installed on a machine, and I wanted to install the runtime for 2011 as well. I know that you can run two separate versions of the LabVIEW program on the same machine, but what about the Run-Time Engine?

    Thank you!

No problem at all. I currently have the engines of execution for 8.2, 8.6, 2009, 2010 and 2011 on my computer. Multiples are no problem at all. Go ahead and load.

is there a limit of profiles that I create or I can create as many profiles that I need?

Cannot answer this question because it depends on the available disk space and the amount of system RAM.   Each profile uses the space of the HD and takes up the ram.  I saw 10 profiles on a beefy i7 computer.
