T420S upgrade?

I was wondering what the open slot (not the RAM) was under the T420S; It is excluded from the RAM, but in the same comprtment slot. Someone has an idea?

This is a mini-PCIe slot and serves two purposes:

-Map of UMTS WWAN HSDPA 3 G (only if your T420s is prepared WWAN, look for the blue and Red cables arriving near the slot.) If not present no WWAN prepared)

-mSATA Solid State Disk, SATA2, currently available in sizes 60-256 GB

I think the upgrade of my wireless card Intel AC card.

As far as I understand there is a white list of BIOS for the authorized material that will require flashing before you install anything with non - Lenovo FRU. As I have not been able to find a card that is dealt with by Lenovo, I don't really see option to blink.

Could someone point me in the direction of a work card, or a mod of BIOS work? I thought the 7260 Intel as a replacement card.

Did anyone done this before? :-)

    Welcome to the forum!

There is no wireless card out-of-the-box-work AC for a T420, so looking for a mod of BIOS.

There are places online that specialize in the provision of modded bios, I doubt anyone here will post a direct link with one of them on Lenovo's own forum.

Time to put the search engine of your choice to work.

    Good luck.

  • Upgrade SSD T420 and win 10

My 300 GB hard disk has insufficient free space to allow me to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 7 pro for Windows 10. I bought a SanDisk 480 GB sad and plan to clone HDD in it. However, that will allow me to do the next update of Windows 10 next?

    Hi Chris,

If you clone literally the system it will be exactly the same.

If you get the upgrade of Windows 10 using the 300 GB HARD disk and clone, same popup appears on the 480 GB SSD.

If sysprep you HARD drive before cloning it must also propose this pop-up. In addition, if you install windows 7 on the new SSD the pop-up must always appear (I don't know the exact date, but I guess that MS will stop this offer sooner or later).

    Best regards, Max.

  • Upgrade memory T420s

@All: I am sure that the issue has been addressed already, so I was wondering if someone could point me to an article or forum topic where I can learn the best way to install a memory in the laptop? In addition, if the memories are of different brands, type and frequency remaining the same, I will encounter problems when running the system? Thank you in advance.

It's a pretty simple Exchange, but if you want detailed instructions, see the HMM for the T420s here:
    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77103

Also, I agree with wditters, brand and 1333 or 1600 Mhz. You can get a pair of 4 GB modules for $50 these days.

EDIT: And don't forget, more than 3 GB you must use a 64 bit OS.

  • T420 RAM upgrade

    Hi all

Today, I have several T-420 and I need to spend 4 of them, so I need new batteries (np) and 4 GB of RAM.

    The original 4 GB of RAM is a Ramaxel 4 gb 2rx8 PC3 - 10600S - 999

But the LENOVO Web site is only to offer me to buy a 4 GB SODIMM DDR3 - 1600 PC3 - 12800 goto 1333

    Is this ok?

My question to customer support () is always unanswered...

    KMM59994019V27514L0KM

    Hello and welcome, Tarasque

It's the simplest issue with hundreds of responses on the forum. That's why forummers are silent.

Buy almost any what memory stick (!) you'll find - SODIMM DDR3-1333 PC3-10600, CL11, 1.5 volt, up to 16 GB (2 x 8), with the exception of the model 'brand' noname, even to the aftermarket. PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 memory will work if it supports 1333 Mhz, so he needs to read the stick. Don't buy low-voltage 1.35v, memory if she can't handle too many 1.5V.

  • T420 cannot use the USB 3.0 of 4337 ThinkPad docking station

I have a ThinkPad T420 - with only the USB 2.0 Ports. I bought a docking station with USB 3.0 Port 4337 - but I can't use it with USB 3.0 speed. Where is the problem? What is the solution?

T420 doesn't support USB 3.0, the only solution is to upgrade your machine of T430.

  • T420 & Windows 8 questions.

    Greetings to the community.

I would write some of the issues I'm facing after installing windows 8 on my T420.

I bought the laptop in August with windows 7... then somewhere around early November, I upgraded to Windows 8.

I met other threads that directed me to the updates for windows 8. I installed everything I could find for windows 8.

However, the following issues still remain.

1 micro button mute does not work.
    2 Fn + F2 does not work

    3 Fn + F3 does not work

    4 Fn + F5 does not work

    5 Fn + F6 does not work

    6 Fn + F8 does not work

    7 Fn + PrtSc doesn't work

8 Bluetooth remains on all the time with no way to disable the right click. Yesterday I downloaded an update through the update of the system for the bluetooth, but the problem remains.

    9 Thinkvantage does nothing.

Could someone help me identify what might cause these problems and how I could find a solution for the same?

    Any help with much appreciated!

    Thank you.

  • T420 driver windows problem 10

    Hello

    I have ThinkPad T420.

Could someone help to find the drivers for these devics:

    (1) USB\VID_0BDB & PID_1911 & REV_0000

    (2) VEN_1180 & DEV_E823 & SUBSYS_21CE17AA & REV_05 PCI

    (3) PCI VEN_8086 & DEV_1C3D & SUBSYS_21CE17AA & REV_04

I just upgraded to 10 Windows, and I can't find these drivers. There is no drivers for Windows 10 on the support page. I tried to use the lenovo system update, but completely the thing it installs is "dependence of the device.

    Best regards.

    1. There is no driver win10 of Ericsson and Lenovo for the F5521gw. And most likely will be unavailable again.

Therefore, to use drivers win7 in compatibility mode, there are mentions on the success on the forum (probably, win8.1 drivers work also).

Install the drivers in the folder where the drivers package is extracted to launch the following string:
    Setup.exe /wNOAUTOSENSING /wUSELASTKNOWNRADIOSTATE

2, 3. As you understand, drivers Intel MEI and Ricoh are needed.

I know of cases successful on ThinkPad Laptops, the SandyBridge-based (as T420) and the upgrade of win10, without problems, using built-in win10 drivers only, and not from Lenovo or components manufacturers. Unfortunately, currently ms update catalog does not load the drivers of their identity documents, because of the error appears.
So, I can not explain the cause of problem of drivers.

Finally, I didn't check whether the Ricoh site related win10 drivers.

  • ThinkPad T420 recovery problem

    Hi all

    I need your help. I have a problem with ThinkPad T420. When I am pressing ThinkVintage or F11 to get into recovery, it loads and then I get this message below;

    Link to image

Don't know how to solve this problem, thank you!

If partitions System_DRV and Lenovo_Recovery (q) has not been resized or corrupt, R & R should work. So, I guess to upgrade/reinstall application Lenovo Rescue & recovery via ThinkVantage System Update because there are a lot of conditions to perform this task manually (eg. There are several options for deployment and language packs).

If this does not help, it could be better and more quickly to create a Lenovo recovery media, it's almost the same Lenovo recovery environment you try to start using BB or F11:
-make it from Lenovo R & R application, advanced mode, rescue media
    - or simply deploy a .iso file image:
    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Lenovo\Rescue and Recovery\rrcd

Note, in any case, it is a good practice to have this rescue media.

If you want to reset the laptop to the factory scene, do it from recovery media factory Lenovo.

  • T420s video card update

Then I bought the 'Business' Machine Lenovo t420s, I was really surprised to discover that it came with video card accumulation, just the lowest system based Intel grpaphics. I am not able even browse some of my applications of rich companies multumedia. The video is still lagging.

I called Lenovo and requested an upgrade, but the suport Tech, said that Lenovo provides all options 'upgrade' for its customers.

Please advice, how can I add card Nvidea to my machine?

Hello. So you cliam that there is not a difference between low-quality Intel HD without any memory and professional video with dedicated memory card?

If so, why any friendly manufacturing (instead of Lenovo) instaled map video saperated in their machine?

in May the Intel hD is able to suport any multimedia application. If you zoom in/zoom out PDF with multimedia, is the difference! Need more time to open and PPT file. The video fullscreen is still trolling too. Anyone sell you a car with bike wheeles, why of Lenovo?

  • T420 sizes of disk Physics Max (SSD/HDD)

My venus T420 with a 320 GB Seagate HDD (6mm high) who was quickly put on a 160 GB Intel X-25 (height 7.5 mm). Recently, I needed more space and tried an another upgrade to a 256 GB OCZ Vertex 4 (9mm height). The OCZ is uncomfortably tight and I'm afraid to damage the laptop, so I'm holding off trying to find an SSD of 7mm. What SSD others use to upgrade their T420 to 256 GB and more?

An alternative is to buy and connect a drive 256 GB mSATA and put back the old 320 HARD drive in the drive tray. But this raises the question of the limits of size of HARD drive. Most (all?) 1 TB drives are double tray and too big for the T420. So my second question is what is the largest capacity HARD drive that would fit in the T420 drive tray?

The mSATA option seems more elegant and offers a lot of total storage space. What I forget?

Gentlemen, first of all thanks for all these information on physical disk sizes and on the other hand, I thank you for the direction of me in the right direction. When I got my calipers out, I assumed the problem was of height of the disc. But your contribution suggested that my 9.06 mm high disk should work perfectly.

The culprit turned out to be the widthof the car. I used screws with heights of head high to mount the drive in the caddy. After the damper rubber on the screws, the set was too broad.

More small screw and life is perfect. Now cloning!

  • T420 graphics update

    Hi guys,.

I am interested in the development of 3D models and animation using Maya as well as delve into the design of games using Unity 3D. I already had licenses for the two programs installed on my T420.

However, Maya tells me that my graphical output is not sufficient to run some things. So I did some digging on the Internet and learned that the T420 lacks a slot for graphics card and only uses the GPU chip on the motherboard.

I know that I can increase my RAM by adding a 4 GB key as well as speed up my hard drive by exchanging it for a faster SSD drive.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do to improve my shading machine.

    Please let me know?

    Thank you!

It is a problem common in many users.

There are interesting upgrades with HDD SSD, RAM, CPU, screen, etc, but also since the GPU Nvidia NV4200 card is integrated - SODA COMPONENT (as I am informed) - in the T420, there is little or nothing to do. You will find a few users to talk eGPU as a solution, but in my case, my opinion is that it becomes royalty and practically it lead to many components external HW, at a voltage higher, several of them with parts of office, and it becomes impractical, as equipment kit is not a type of laptop.

Miserably, in the way that you adopt the updates for your laptop T420, the GPU becomes the BottleNecking, hard to enlarge.

In any case, I hope that the community is able to add more comments...
