T430 discrete GFX Linux does not start

Hi all. I recently bought a T430 with the NVS 5400 M 2 GB discrete GPU with the intention to use it as my machine of dev for the CUDA work. Unfortunately, when I put the machine to start with checking Optimus OS off and the discrete value GPU, I can't boot into linux. I tried to install with built-in graphics, instlaling the NVidia blob, then passage but the system hangs during the boot. I tried to boot into a live CD with the option discreet and he failed to start and we tried the text-based installation and it still does not work. I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 x 64 default, alternative and even Xubuntu. I understand that this distribution was taken in charge (or less proven to work) on this machine, but I have not achieved his feat with the NVidia GPU.

If anyone has any suggestions for this I would be very happy. Thank you.

Lee.

Hello Hiro,

I found a miracle solution to get CUDA programs. Running with the default settings Optimus and start with the integrated Intel GPU, I can get CUDA programs run through the Bumblebee under Ubuntu package. ($~ optirun. / my_prog).

It does not solve the problem of starting, but at least, maybe provide a workaround for any other meeting the problem. Thanks anyway.

Lee.

  • Firefox does not start until the wifi is active

I'm trying to use the latest firefox (v32) on Debian/testing/64-bit by using the 64-bit version of FF... This machine is a laptop and is used only with wifi. The wifi that is usually used is a Starbucks or McDonald's who require a click on a Web page before the connection is enabled... When I start FF to be able to select this check box, it does not start. a look at the ps - xua shows firefox as a zombie/missing process... How I work around this, is to use Google Chrome to shoot to the top of the Web page, click on the box, then almost immediately the instance FF I tried to launch rises... If I clicked on the icon of the FF once more, I get more window a FF... It seems that FF needs a pipe open to internet before it will start. I prefer FF on Chrome, but if I have to use Chrome to "Kick-start" FF, I might as well delete FF and just use Chrome... Any ideas?

UH... This problem occurs on Linux... It IS not IE (thank God)... The proxy on FF and Chrome settings are identical, namely NO proxy configured...

I've come up with a workaround.. Switched out the Linux drive with my pretty unused Windows 7 disk.. Where this problem with Firefox doesn't occur.. I'll check back in a few months with FF on Linux and see if one of the endless "updates" has magically fixed this problem.. Thank you for the help anyway..

  • Firefox does not start (not safe mode), but uses the CPU

I have the latest Firefox 25.0 (and the last Flash 11.9.900.117) on Windows 7 and the following behavior is reproducible. It started not too long ago.

At first when I launch Firefox, nothing appears no matter how often, I restart. I see in the list of the process firefox.exe to 25% of the CPU, 2 x FlashPlayerPlugin_11_9_900_117.exe (CPU 0%) and plugincontainer.exe. No matter how many times I killed all of them, would not restart Firefox.

The following also not help in this situation:

    • Starting in normal safe mode: Firefox opens a window but immediately freezes and does not respond. The process list shows the same process even if I find the unexpected FlashPlayer.
    • Disable plugincontainer: same results (just without plugincontainer.exe)
    • Uninstall Flash: Same results (just without FlashPlayerPlugin)

The following can start Firefox only once:

    • Starting in SafeMode but select "Reset Firefox": Firefox does not start right away, however. Nothing happens, and you have to kill the process. However the very next time you launch Firefox in the normal way, it works fine (but it shows FlashPlayerPlugin.exe in the list of unopened Windows process despite the tab). Unfortunately, after closing Firefox the process (Firefox, FlashPlayerPlugin) are not deleted. I kill and the problem with Firefox do not leave reappears.

In case you use "clear history of Firefox closing:

    • do not delete Cookies

Note that compensation "Preferences of Site" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, windows pop up, installation of software and passwords.

Use "Firefox > output" (Windows: Firefox/file > quit;) Mac: Firefox > quit Firefox. Linux: Firefox/file > exit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing by clicking on the X close in the title bar of Firefox.

Create a new profile manually (and not via the reset) as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

    See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but be careful not to copy files corrupted to avoid transporting on the problem.

  • The browser does not start after you have turned off and turned on the computer

The browser does not start after you have turned off and turned on the computer. I tried to remove the program entirely (as well as personal preferences), to create a new account, install a different browser versions. All this has not helped. (I have Windows 7). Help, please! Every day I have to reinstall Firefox!

Hello Nastena, try a clean reinstall, some Firefox issues can be resolved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you Remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You can print these steps or consult them in another browser.

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Satellite C55 - Has - 1 L 0 does not start in Windows 8

    Hey guys.
I hope you can help me a bit.
    I have a Toshiba Satellite C55 - has - 1 L 0 here and it does not start in Windows 8.

I turn it on, the Toshiba start screen appears, and then I get a message on a black screen saying "media control" (failure) and after a little while "no boot device. Please restart.

I checked the BiOS and it does not see the hard drive (said HARD drive - no) and even in the boot order list, I don't get a list with the DVD drive with the exact name, but for the HARD drive.
I tried to do a recocery with the F12 key and get the list to choosw where I want to start but by selecting the disk hard does not work.

So I thought I'd try a live distribution of linux to see where is my hard drive and back up my data (after some settings in the BIOS - boot CMS mode) but I can't find there too. (I have a file fstab and mtab, it would help if I posted it here?)
Is my HARD drive broken? Can I try something else?

    Thank you very much!

You are right. This issue should be fixed by the authorized service provider.
Furthermore, why do some risk steps to check this problem, if the warranty is valid.
Warranty will cover the repair costs.

It is for the Satellite A105 (PSAA2U) Bios Update, you can test the file at your own risk.

A text readme file is located in the folder, follow the instructions.
Download the Bios file from the link and copy it to a USB key, go into you Bios and this flash file.

    Hi mate

It seems that you have already tried all possible solution proposals
But what happens if you start the laptop using a bootable diskette. for example, recovery disk, disk Win XP, Linux live CD, etc?

I knew it could be a HARD drive problem, even if the HARD drive is correctly detected by the BIOS
Maybe a replacement HARD drive might help maybe.

Otherwise, it could be a serious hardware problem I m thinking: motherboard

  • My C50 - B Satellite does not start from the HARD drive

    Details of the machine: -.

    Model number: PSCMLA-03F07Q
    Serial number: XE343127P

Computer does not start from hard drive. No error message, just the start Toshiba at the end of self-test screen.

Sometimes a reinstall of the operating system seems to correct the problem, but then he would go again, now the problem is consistent.

I reduced the possibilities to a fault of BIOS, reasons.

System boots from USB with no problems. Installation of operating systems is done without error. SMART hard drive data indicates a perfectly healthy hard drive. Memcheck will return no error.

The obvious solution is to reload the BIOS, just reset it doesn't help. But that is the problem.

1.4 BIOS update that the Australian site offers is a Windows program and the computer cannot start Windows.

Obvious answer is to use a bootable USB key with an operating system 'live' on this issue, but all of these systems are Linux and the update of the BIOS is a Windows program. So much for smart solutions.

Downloaded Bios version 1.7 of the European site but the iso inside the rar file is empty, 25 MB in size but nothing in there according to Linux. Tried to run his program on a Win7 64 bit computer and it returns an error that it could not find the correct iso file.

I submitted a support request by email to Toshiba, but they believe that it could take three days to get a response, so I thought I would ask here as well. Can someone tell me please to a working copy of the latest BIOS update disk for a laptop Satelite C50 - B? Note: this model does not have a CD player so iso should be compatible with USB boot.

    See you soon,.

    Andrew.

    Hello

From my experience that I n think that BIOS update is the final solution for you. When you set the default settings of the BIOS disk HARD appears correctly in the BIOS settings?
HARD drive is also offered and listed as boot device when you enter in the start using F12 at startup menu?

What happens when you start using recovery image installation created recovery USB key (I hope that you have created a)?

Offer BIOS updates are versions of WIN and can be performed by running the Windows operating system.

  • Satellite L505 - 10 M - fan does not start

    I have a problem with my Satellite L505 - 10 M.

Suddenly the fan does not start over and because of this, the laptop get quickly overheated and stops. I installed Windows 7 top me, quite some time ago, and this time it was 2 weeks ago while it just happened this evening. I have not installed anything new and nor I did something special with him, he just does not start fan more.

I checked this forum, cannot find anything either, searched and could not find any problems with Linux and the fan, but not Windows (it does not start at the start of the bios either).

If anyone has a thought, a similar experience or a solution, it would be really useful

    Greetings,
    JanPieterz

    Hey Buddy,

You have installed Windows 7 Microsoft disc or Toshiba Recovery disk?

Well, if the fan doesn't start anymore, you can t a lot and I think that the fan needs to be replaced.
What you can do is load default settings in the BIOS (press F9 key in the configuration of the BIOS) and save settings. Also clean your laptop using a jet of compressed air, maybe the fan will be blocked by the dust.

If he doesn t it work s time to contact a technician for laptop. If your laptop is under warranty, the repair will be free. :)

Your hard drive is failing, fast (these things last forever). You need to replace as soon as POSSIBLE. If you have important data on what cannot be replaced I suggest you plug it into another computer as an external drive and pulling all the data you need it off.

If you do not have the possibility to connect the drive directly on another PC, you can download a live Linux CD/USB.

Step 1: Acquire a blank CD or USB. If you use a USB port, format it in FAT32.

Step 2: Insert your chosen in your PC Backup media.

    Step 3: Download Unetbootin.

Step 4: Select a distribution in the drop-down list. Just about anything will work, but for your application, I would recommend "Puppy Linux".

    Step 5: Select your media.

Step 6: Once Unetbootin is complete, insert your media in the PC is installed on the corrupted hard drive.

Step 7: Boot puppy. (You may need to select your Flash DRIVE or a CD in your BIOS)

Step 8: The use of the included file manager, mount the hard drive and browse for the files you need. You can then save these on another DRIVE or a CD drive, or the internet.

  • error 0xC0000225, recovery partition does not start

    Hello

    I have a HP dv7 with Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit.

A few months ago, I did a factory restore, the recovery partition start (I have no recovery disks). After that, I thought to divide my C: partition where Windows is installed, and I did it with Windows disk management.

So my new scores were: C: D: with recovery, OS, E: HP_Tools and g.: the new partition.

A few days ago the sistem ran very hard, so I thought I do another factory restore from the recovery partition. When I rebooted and you press F11, I got the "0xc0000225 error".

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit bootable drive and I tried Startup Repair tool and other repairs of sistem, checks HDD, but everything seems to be ok.

I reinstalled the operating system, from the disk bootable on C: (OS starts and works well) and let the other partitions as they were... but it seems that the recovery partition still does not start if I can do a restore from the factory with all the drivers and utilities, as they were at the beginning.

Any ideas on how I can do?

    Thank you!

It seemed that it there was not much I could do about this problem. My disk is dynamic, there is no Recovery Manager from the Start Menu, there has not been any creation of HP with HP folder recovery support. I managed somehow to make a repair disk, I tried it but no results, the error kept popping out every time.

I inserted the Windows 7 disc to try to delete all partitions, including the recovery and HP-tools and do a Windows Installer Cleanup, but the Format, New and Delete buttons are inactive.

I did some scans disk and memory tests, everything was ok... I started with a disc of Hiren and accesed the HARD drive with a program based on linux and so I managed to delete the partitions.

After I installed a new copy of Windows 7 to work with my SN and everything was ok. Unfortunately I lost partitions recovery and HP-tools, but at least it works well again.

Thanks for your all your support.
