T61 The Service Partition

I had to wipe the HD of my T61, so I took an Acronis Image of the SERVICE001 partition.  Wipe the HD and reapplied for the image to HD to reinstall the operating system.  When I start the laptop and press the Thinkvantage button it says not found o/s.  Does anyone know how to access the tools of recovery within this service partition to reinstall the operating system?

Hi bryan,.

You can try this:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54483.html

To copy the service partition, you may have just created the recovery disks, it is much easier and the best way to preserve the contents of the partition. If the mentioned repair does not work, there is nothing much you can do other than buying a set of lenovo. I hope that the repair will do.

I hope this helps.

Ah the service partition, you need a CD of vista, you? any where? any type of CD of Vista, it is not serious, offers their options of Vista (ultimate, business, base) in one of their CD's then you just need one and do a repair install then launch fix, and it should work.

  • Installation Partition problem (allocated too expensive for the Service Console?)

Installation Partition problem (allocated too expensive for the Service Console?)

RAID1 (15K 146 GB SAS) on Dell R710 and VMFS is on table EQL.

What I did during the ESX4.1 excavation, it's that I have used ALL the space in 146 GB (mainly for / and / var), after adding this ESX host to vCenter, VC and EQL ASM/VE started to complain about the following points:

1 VC: health check of localstorage warning (only has 245 MB left on 146SAS localstorage)

2 EQL ASM/VE: warning rootFolder folder (due to the above)

I thought that he is authorized to use all the space for / (50 GB) and / var (50 GB) in my case for only 146 GB, I don't think I need to leave any space on the installation disc.

Could someone share some lights here?

    Thank you

As you can see SDS use all the SDC VMFS partition space.

    This create the alarm.

The thing really confused me why I have to leave a space on the disk at all?

Technically there is no reason to let the space... but also no reason to have a big service console

Usually, you need 10 to 20% free space for each snapshot data store and Exchange files... but in your case, you will not have these files.

If you have any problems, but you receive the alarm until you do not disable them on this specific data store.

PS: I suggest you switch to ESXi, is quite simple and it doesn't have this strange vmdk for the "console".

    Hello

Now you have the problem. You can start the recovery folder HDDRecovery facility just if your laptop has the factory settings.
When you use Microsoft facilities disk for the installation of the operating system, this option will be gone.

    Hello!

I think that you do not understand something wrong.
On Toshiba laptops, there is no recovery partition, they have HDDrecovery folder that contains factory settings.
I have a recovery partition you want to say is a feature of Windows Vista, not a Toshiba.
Here is a useful link to it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinRE

HARD drive recovery file is stored on the second partition of the laptop. You can use the disk HARD recovery function if you go into the advanced boot menu, choose repair my computer and select the recovery Toshiba HDD feature.
But I think it's too late now

Burn you the Toshiba Recovery disk? Normally, you can burn the original image which is stored in the file on a DVD HARD drive recovery using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator. Therefore, you always get a popup that you must do this or message do not forget.

If you don't l t this and you want the Toshiba recovery disc you must order a new one. You can do so here: https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I hope I could help you. Do you have more questions?

    Hey Divinemoon,

Try changing the partition Active of C on the second system partition where Windows 7 is installed so that when the computer starts, it loads the appropriate operating system. After you change the active partition, perform the Startup Repair.

    a. Open command prompt in Windows recovery menu.

Reference: What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

    a. type diskpart in command prompt.

    b. at the DiskPart prompt, type in disk list. You will see the list of drives currently connected to your computer.

    c. now type in select disk n, where n is the disk number. In this example, disk 0 is selected.

    d. now that correct drive is selected, type in the partition from the list for a list of all partitions on that disk.

    (e) to select the partition that you want to set as active, type select partition n, where n is the partition number.

    f. now that you have selected the disk and partition, mark it as active by typing the word active simply pressing ENTER. Now, the partition is set to active.

    g. out of the command prompt and run the Startup Repair tool. Reference: Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

  • How can I get the error "Unable to start the service" on attempts to run administrative tools (including the Services application) when logged in as an administrator?

A large number of menu selections is affected, including the 'computer management', 'Event Viewer', 'Services' and 'System Configuration'.

I tried to clean a computer that was thus invaded by unwanted applications and the services that it was unusable.  I applied several sets of Windows updates until it has been fairly stable, then lightened through the Services application services, changing many services 'automatic' to 'enabled' or 'disabled '.  I suspect that some service necessary for the performance of the foregoing has been inadvertently stopped.  (None that he was '' strongly recommended '' or '' recommended '' do not turn off or the description seemed to make a requirement, but...)  I don't know how to confirm this theory, identify the missing service or reactivate a service without the Services application.

I got lucky.  I called a local, independent computer store.  Their support staff (after confirming that I had an appropriate Windows license) told me that if the computer came with a disk for Installation of Windows Vista, there is probably a partition to start installation on the hard disk, I could get to with a special touch at the beginning of the start-up phase of the BIOS.  It flashed by so quickly that I missed my chance, so I put off the power while trying to boot Windows.  On my next attempt, I missed again (even if I managed to spot the key combination - F11).  But when he arrived at the start-up phase of Windows, he offered me a chance to run the system restore which was banned when I was logged in with an administrator account.  I had to go back a ways, but I found one who would start and was able to complete cleaning of the machine and make it to a usable state.

    Thanks to all who responded.

Oh, and it seems (according to my conversation with the service of the local computer store) that my fatal mistake was by disabling the service allowing you to promote its own security.  Apparently an administrator account is not the rights needed to perform most administrative functions without it; If disabling the service gets you into a nearly unrecoverable state.  A hint of that in the description of the service, or even a total ban on deactivation, would be a good idea.

  • Free disk space on the C partition

    Separated from this thread.

I am also having the same problem.  I am running Vista Home Premium SP2.  I was getting close to complete on my drive C (13% free space). I was shocked to see how quickly it filled up, almost as if he did it by himself.  I was downloading a lot so I had no idea how it happened.  I ran each program cleaning and each antivirus that I had to try to make room.  I cleaned up program files deleted a bunch of audio and video files, and it does not seem to do much more of a difference.  I shut down the computer for the night and is returned to him the next morning.  I ran and bought a few flash drives to transfer files more and when I booted up I checked the hard drive and it was back to 48% free space (as it was before).  I have no idea what happened, but so far, it seems to be fixed...?   one of the cleansers I ran also ccleaner.

    Compress files

There are two ways to compress files in windows. Zip files and built-in file compression. It's built-in file compression. For more information on compression type zip in Start - Help and Support .

Photos, music and video are already compressed. They can get larger if Windows tries to compress it any further. Also usually a bad idea to compress system files.

If you have files of worksheet they can very well be compressed. If you have files, installation files, they can also be good candidates. Web pages are also good candidates.

In Windows Explorer, blue file names means Tablet (it is the file system compression not aka zip files compressed files). Green filename means Encrypted.

To disable file names colored, in Explorer - Tools menu (Alt + T)- display tab and then clear the check box for Show encrypted or compressed NTFS in color .

Windows compression, encryption and security to work for the most part by applying attributes to a folder and the files in the folder inherit the folder.

If you have all the files appropriate for compression, find them in solution, made Explorer right click - Properties - general -Advanced button tab - Compress contents to save disk space. Choose to apply to all files and folders when asked.

  • Windows vista Home premium recovery question - how to get the source for windows vista home edition premium as the recovery does not work since the recovery partition

How to get the source to windows vista Home premium recovery is not from the recovery partition and gives me an error message

    Hello

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • DataSafe may not find the recovery Partition

Hi, I have an Inspiron 1545 with Windows7 and I am creating a USB recovery in case the system has a problem. When you run the DataSafe Local Backup app, the main screen says that it can not locate the recovery partition. When you click Backup, and then create recovery system, options 'USB Flash Drive' media and "drives" are grayed out.

If I look in disk management, the RECOVERY partition exists and is "healthy".

What can I do to build recovery media?

Thanks a lot for your help. I'm still angry that, through the no fault of mine, the recovery partition is unusable. It seems that something in the previous attempt to create the recovery media corrupted the recovery partition.

Its an inherent weakness of the recovery Partition. Any slight involuntary changes in the size of the file or the content may be corrupted. I was strongly against the recovery Partition and the end user, creating their own installation media of the political Recovery Partition OEM media of reduction that Microsoft pushed. However Windows 10 .isos being downloadable and constantly updated future distributions Windows should be acceptable.

The installation of Windows 10 will ask my Service tag number? I don't see a license sticker Windows7 on the bottom of the laptop as I've seen in the past.

Yes as it will search the Windows 7 COA under the battery of your system. Windows 10 should run fine on this model. I ran it on an older model without problems.

  • New HD: The recovery partition restore

    Hello

I'm trying to upgrade my hard drive of 3000 N200 to a bigger, faster disk (250 G).

I find the recovery (startup Lenovo care button) of a big utility feature, because I'm a computer technician and my system has to be reinstalled frequently.

My question is: How can I migrate the recovery on my new drive partition.

I used Symantec Ghost to clone disk to disk (I put the two in a desktop PC and copied directly from 1 in the other), but let the ghosts to change the size of the data partitions (to my knowledge, ghost has kept the same size of the hidden recovery partition).

But when I try to boot from the recovery partition, I block just after the choice of the F key (where I pressed F11) on a white screen.

I saw a few disks and restore discs can be, but I would use the recovery partition as it is autonomous and always with the computer by definition.

Is there a way to get things to work on the new drive.  I have access to the old drive as it still works OK, so slow.

    Thanks for the information

    Marc
