Table of contents - withdrawal

Hello

I have my table of contents all set. Everything is perfect except that I can't understand how indent my under categories. It is not a must but I would like to know how to do it and it would make my table of contents looks much better.

What it looks like

The main header... 1

Sub header... 1

How I want it to look

The main header... 1

Sub header... 1

Thanks in advance!

For kN apply the paragraph with a left indent style.

  • How can I add a caption to a table of contents?

I was assigned the role of building a model Indesign to eventually replace the Word MS one that we currently use, but I have never touched this software before. With a lot of Googling, I groped my way through it a little, but I can't seem to understand this one.

If I just add, it is deleted on update, so... I am at a loss. The only option is to stay another text box there? I was trying to avoid this.

I just frome background coding so I'm not dodge this option if possible.

Don't know what it is you are trying to do here.

A table of contents are based on the paragraph styles you include, and it should be in its own frame, do not put on other stories. Do you mean, perhaps you want a column on page numbers?

You can add that the insertion of a paragraph above the first listing in the generated table of contents (when it is placed, you can edit it normally like any other story), but you have to do every time the table of contents are updated. You can also change the 'content' line to read the content ^ n ^ yPage and then create a GREP search in find/replace to Find \^n\^y and change it to \n~y and it will add the linebreak and a withdrawal to the right tab. The ^ n ^ y is not a code required in this case - you can use what you want as long as it appears nowhere else - and you can use any sort of tab you like after the break, too. If you save the query, find/replace, it will be slightly faster that back manually after an update of the table of contents.

  • Table of contents, separating the positions and Page numbers

    Hello

I work with a table of contents in InDesign CC. Some of the titles that appear in the table will be very long and the next line. I want to wrap up before it hits the right hanging tab so that there is a visual separation between the page numbers and text. I understand that I can do it manually, but I want to do it consistently because it is a model for a large number of documents.

Here's what I want it to look, the important thing is that the long position:

    1. regular position... 5

    1.1 regular subheading... 6

    2. long title that I hope

    a smart person would reduce

    down anyway............................................................ 8

    As opposed to:

    1.      Regular Heading...................................................... 5

    1.1 regular subheading... 6

    2. long title this person smart hopefullya would be

    cut down anyway..................................................... 8

Any ideas? Is it possible to have an active table of content in a table? Or maybe something else? Expand on a second column?

Well, looks like you know how to a negative indent on the left margin; you know, apply a few dash to the left margin, then some Indent first line. Look carefully at your dash controls in your toolbar: apply some indent right margin, then a few negative withdrawal of last line, and you can get your table of contents behaves exactly as you wish.

I can take a few screenshots for you later if my description is not obvious.

  • Page indent the problem with the table of contents entries...

I have a few entries of table of contents running on more than one line. I would like the text to be indented from the establishment right indent/margin so that text does not as far as the Page numbers on the right margin of the text TOC block extend existing. I put a tab on the right so that the page numbers are tabulated on the right edge of the frame, but if I bring you the right margin with several (currently 5 mm) indenting, I can't have a tab stop to the page outside of the right margin.

If I insert soft-return/new line tanks they wil get lost every time I have rebuild the table of contents (there will be a lot of it!)

Any ideas, I'm sure it happens all the time for designers of the book.

The same way you have a withdrawal of first line, on the left there is a final withdrawal of the straight line. You can set the right two inches (for example) withdrawal and removal of stretch to neutralize two thumbs, all on a single line will go completely to the right of the frame, and any point edge requiring line breaks will break two inches to the left of the right edge of the frame, while the last line will go to the right edge.

  • Table of contents indented to a title that should not be indented

    Hi, Gang!

I created a table of contents of a book and the entries of table of contents for the two pages of separation are indented, when they shouldn't be. The style of table of contents for the separator page header has no indentation and entering the reference TOC page seems correct. To make the things unknown, two entries are indented different amounts in the table of contents.

Here is a screenshot that shows 1) the first entry in the table of contents (far back), 2) the second entry in the TOC (less indented, but always indented) and 3) style of separator on the referring page page.

    I'm puzzled.

Does anyone have ideas why this withdrawal could happen?

    Thank you very much!

    Rocky,

OR Ctrl-click on the text box and uncheck the BOX allow for sideheads. For reasons unknown to me, Framemaker sometimes turns this when you create a new table of contents or an Index.

  • Difficulties of formatting a Table of contents

I watched videos, manage to create a paragraph style for titles I want to appear in a Table of contents, but the page numbers are placed on the next line below each entry. I'm not good with this and have to ask ourselves:

How can I get the page numbers to appear at the end of the line in front of the entrance?

I also want to put a nice dotted line or an underscore between the entry and page number to make it easy to identify.

I am interested in the formatting as I want this look nice also. Advice on adding custom baseline control, and perhaps a "BOLD" for page numbers would be nice to know also.

    TIA,

    Ken

Seems to me that you have a dash after the lieting, followed by an end nested style character, and then a withdrawal right, tab followed to another ordinary tab. End nested style is of no consequence, but the two legs are what causes the problem. Use of withdrawal right tab (^ y) or a regular tab (^ t) with a fixed position, but not both.

  • Captivate 5 Table of contents

In Captivate 5 Table of contents, I drag an exisitng a topic for other slides. Near as I can tell when I lower in the table of contents it adds a folder or a cap with no slide assigned. Is it possible to assign an existing slide in this position or withdrawal of existing slides without the addition of the heading?

    Appreciate the help,

    John

    Hello

No, if you want to you have slides of group levels. It's a sort of chapter, subchapter... hierarchy of slides, you can create several levels if you wish.

Perhaps this idea: If you don't want to show all slides, you could just check the slides that you want as the title for others to be visible.

  • How can I get Indesign Table of contents gap filler?

I will have no problem getting my table of contents to come out exactly as I expect to see - BUT -

How can I get periods just to fill the space between the word/chapter title and page number?

All the tutorials I see show them already in place. Mine come out blank or if I place in the model, it comes out with just how much I place - not plus-pas less. The chapter titles are words of different length and I want to the table of contents to finish in two columns justified.

I know it's simple, no doubt, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere Please help!

If you want the traditional Chief, open your box of paragraph TOC style dialogueOptions legends and move on to the screen. This is when you set the position of the tab and the leader.

I prefer to use the underline myself.  Note that the field Style drop-down menu beside where you have your ^ t.?  In this area, select 'New Style' (in CS4, for earlier versions, you must exit the dialog Table of contents and first to define the character style) and create a style of character called underlined tab or something equally as descriptive. The only attribute of the style should add the underline. In the example below, I put the underscore for pt.5 Japanese points which are faces that the leader is created with a period or style of ordinary dotted outline. Ihaven can't included any offset, underscore appears on the baseline. You can change what you want, make sure the check box is on, not gray.

Another thing that I would change, if you use the feature of underscores, is to replace your tab (which is a fixed position) with a tabulation of withdrawal right (metacharacter is ^, but you can select it from the drop-down list). A tabulation of withdrawal right is always on the far right in a column, even if you change the column width to a later date. Ordinary tabs do not move if you change the column. Using this method you would not a tab located in the paragraph style.

  • Table of contents and tabs

    Two Questions.

Q1. -I'm creating an index and uses a table of contents rather than creating a real index as it would always base don what I know.

    What I have

    Just the best support 2,.

    Just the best support 33

    Just the best support 34

If possible, I'd like to get it so its like that.

    Just the best support 2, 33, 34

Q2. -Is it possible so when the page number do not correspond to the bosom of the space of columns which extends the leader.

for example: this is what I currently have

    Just the best support 2, 13, 30, 33,.

    34

    That's what I want

    Just better care ... 2, 13, 30, 33,

    ............................................ 34

I do not know "what you heard" on indexing, but I used the script Index Brutal: http://marcautret.free.fr/geek/indd/indexbrut/en.php to generate an index of a text file after a doc was finished, and it was quick and easy.

You can also make the OCD thing, and as Mike says you can use GREP to remove and consolidate additional entries. I wrote an article for InDesign Magazine about the use of a table of contents to make an index for advertisers, and in the context of this article, I described the withdrawal method and consolidate duplicates and included a script to automate the process. It's in the latest issue (June/July).

You will also find it discussed in detail at http://forums.adobe.com/message/1918310#1918310. The code for research and script are in post #25

  • Table of contents for several sheet file...?

    It is possible to:

    1. Create a Table of contents listing all sheets in a file?
    2. Have these hyperlink worksheet titles to the sheets themselves?

I build what will eventually be a fairly large file (read: 75 + leaves). Rather than scrolling all the leaves one by one by one manually to locate the correct table, it would be useful to have a table of contents or an Index that lists the in order... Ideally, allowing the connection of hypertext link to the leaves they reference. (I swear that this was part of a way-back-when number...)

Instead, is it possible to auto-trier worksheets in alphabetical order? He would not give me the project view as a table of contents or an Index of 35,000 feet, but at least it would be a little easier to find what it takes.

Looking forward to sharing the wisdom...

    HI stephanie,.

The numbers 2 (' 09) and 3 support not the hyperlinks to locations within the current document. Both take in charge of hyperlinks that open a Web page in your default browser or which will open and send a new e-mail message.

Command-F can be your friend here.

Place an array of single cell on each sheet (or use a cell on the existing table). Enter a short text string that identifies the table or sheet. Each string must be unique in the document.

To access the card containing one of the following strings:

Press Control + F to open the Find dialog.

Enough chain to identify the worksheet type.

Number will draw this roadmap forward as soon as it can determine which table contains the cell containing this string.

    Tested with four sheets containing:

    able, baker, charlie and delta

With this limit together (and any other tables in the document - quite an artificial situation!), type c or d was enough to bring me to sheet 3 or 4, sheets 1 and 2 required two letters (ab or ba) to identify the good sheet and bring it forward.

With a document containing several tables (and more leaves), create (and remembering) a separate channel for each becomes more complicated.

You can place a second copy of each in a table of Index or table of contents on a separate sheet. From the index table,

Copy the entry for the table/worksheet you want to go.

Open the dialog to find (command-V)

Paste the entry in the search box. (What it will find and highlight the entry that you have copied to the index table)

Click on the > button on the dialog to find the occurrence FOLLOWING this string (on your target table.

  • Table of contents don't link to pages in a doc Pages

    Info entry:

    1. a .pages document
    2. blank template
    3. presentation of two columns

    The problem:

Table of contents generated refuses to do interactive links to the corresponding pages. Styles is ok (so that's why I was able to compose the TOC).

  • How can I display the table of contents for the iPod Touch to 6

When I opened first of all iPod Touch Users' Guide, I used the table of contents (TOC) to locate and access sections in the manual. But, after looking through the manual for awhile, I tried to return to the table of contents, but it wasn't there! I have tried various things to see if the table of contents are being hidden, or if in some way, it has been deleted. Anyone can shed light on this mysterious event?

What is the version of iBooks that you speak? There is an online version here: https://help.apple.com/ipod-touch/9/ Aha, I see the table of contents on the left disappears if you zoom before or make the narrow window and reappears if zoom you out or make it larger.

  • Table of contents: linking the titles and page numbers

    Hi all

In my paper, I created a table of contents.

Like most books, I want to link titles and paragraphs to their pages by a dotted or dashed, just like that:

    Title - P2

    subtitle - P3

    etc...

I also use these links in checklists to connect the left side of the list to the right side.

And this isn't something wrong: this faclity Visual really helps you recognize what's on poles on the right with the correct item on the left.

Is there a way or a function in Pages to automatically create these links instead of typing for each item in the Table of contents (which can be very long, little time)?

    Thanks for your time.

    Lopez.

With your table of contents is generated, click each item in the table of contents (for example, title, subtitle, title 1, etc.) so that it appears highlighted. Your right in v5.6.2 Pages panel will show the Table of contents and a text label.

Further down in the text tab, there will be an area of tabs. If it is not expanded, click the word ▸ tabs. Click any selector in the column Leader and the choice of your choice for your boss to fill. There is no provision to set a color of head. Here is an example:

  • Is it possible to have two or more tables of contents in a long document?

I wrote a book in which I created a table of contents listing the sections in the book part i, part two e.g. etc..

Can I now creates the TOC for each part?

    If so, please advise procedure.

    Thank you

You can have a table of contents preceding each section. So, for your Part One article, you place your insertion point before the text in the section first and apply Insert menu: Table of contents: Section.  A new page containing the table of contents will be inserted before each article that you apply it too.

Tested with Pages v5.6.2 on OS X 10.11.5.
