  • Tecra 9100 - help to choose RAM

It comes to earlier put that on for some reason any got locked and marked "assumed answered", when in fact it wasn't.

Eldorado reported me to the answer of Markus77. Thank you, but Markus77 or Eldorado say they tried the modules that listed there and actually pushed them to work in a Tecra 9100. The link in the response of Markus77 only points to one of the many similar provider sites I've seen, who say that the 2x512MB modules are supported. The point is, Lewislite had tried about 5 different brands/replacements and none of them were all-purpose, that they either slow his system or it could not start at all.

I asked, because I want to upgrade my current 512 MB too, if someone had actually he managed successfully on a Tecra 9100, or if it is one of those rare instances of a model with a motherboard that is insufficient to hold over the limit prescribed by the manufacturer, which for the 9100 by Toshiba 512 MB of cache. Maybe because most of the laptops will accept 2x512MB, suppliers assume just the 9100 will do too and so offer them to anyone willing to buy them. But has anyone actually done and got to work?

The fact that Toshiba are 512 MB modules is not in itself a response, because they could be directed to other models. The fact remains that Toshiba say the maximum the 9100 is 512 MB, and Lewislite tried 5 different modules to try to go beyond that and found that none of them would be.

Then, everybody in fact successful to do a better job Tecra 9100 with more than 512 MB or have memory suppliers are mistaken for this model?

Had a look at the detailed Tecra 9100 here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download

It shows that Kingston 512 MB KTT3614/512 RAM is compatible. I am assuming that you can run Modules 2 x 512 MB.

Make sure you use PC2100 DDR memory. PC2700 should work, but there may be a compatibility issue.

  • TECRA 9100 - loss of sound, WLAN, BT, and SD function

    Hello

during the operation of a USB - HDD and mp3 player on my Tecra 9100, abruptly stopped, power to the WLAN-, Sound-, Bluetooth, SD - Card.
For example: no sound microphone, WLAN switch does not work, reports of Bluetooth: no power supply.

On this issue, I heard more often in some forums. My warranty has expired. Regular service is more expensive than a Tecra 9100 of second hand.

Can anyone give some advice? Which piece can be damaged, motherboard, I I/O-board?

    It sounds really bad.
As far as I know there is only one Board and if something is wrong with a part of the motherboard only management as a whole must be replaced!
As you have already said this replacement is not very cheap, because the jury is one of the expansive laptop parts.

Without diagnostic tests, no one will be able to provide a just and final diagnosis.
That's why I recommend you contact a technician from laptop to a cheque

After these checks you can find out more details on the breakdown and could decide what you what to do; buy a second hand laptop or try to repair the old Tecra

    Good luck

  • Tecra 9100 comes on intermittently and turns off after 10-15 seconds

Referring to a Toshiba Tecra 9100, model No.: PT910E-602SF-FR

The power button normally doesn't light up at all, even if sometimes it starts normally, starts to load windows, then always turns off after 5 to 15 seconds in any case.

It always requires the batteries very well, but it won t turn on. I ve checked the ram, hard drive and I re - set the default bios - nothing prevents to cut if you can get it to turn on.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Any help appreciated, it s the second time I had - the same problem the last time!

    Thank you

    Hey,.

Have you already tried to clean the fan? Maybe a lot of dust blocking the fan for laptop can start t, and then turns off itself due to a higher temperature. It would be interesting to try to clean it.

But in my opinion, you've done everything you can do, and it looks like a malfunction of the motherboard. If cleaning using fan doesn t I think the motherboard is faulty or something else. If you are familiar with the disassembly of the laptop, you can try to fix it yourself with second hand parts. Otherwise it s time for a new laptop I think

  • Customer password-Toshiba Tecra 9100 Setup

    Hello:

On the page to access this forum is reported that if the user is logged on the Club, among other things, will receive the password if necessary.

I am really very disappointed with the service that it provides to its customers and Toshiba but I am about to buy a new one, I have serious doubts have emerged whether he should opt for a Toshiba.

If anyone can help me write in Spanish, my post is [email protected] address

    Hello Siegen

I am very interested to understand your problem and try to help but I really didn t understand your problem. Of course, my English isn't the best, but I hope you can clearly explain what you want to know about this old notebook.

BIOS password has this oldie and now, you don't have access to it now?
Is your laptop or you bought one?
Here you can ask what you want and I'm sure that you can chat with other owners of Toshiba laptops on your problems.

I have two of them and I am very satisfied. Support and customer service are on the high level. So I'm really interested about your problem and the reasons why you think that the service is not good for you.
I mean, for each question, there must be a logical explanation.

I am quite often here and you want to discuss with other people. If the last comment on the propaganda is somewhat strange to me.

  • Re: Tecra 9100 - new HARD drive is not detected

I have a Toshiba Harddisk provide a Tecra 9100. Checking the BIOS it shows "Enhanced IDE", but you are trying to boot from the disc does not work HARD. Even trying to install a new operating system present, that the HARD drive is not detected.
From the laptop is also very long.
    Any idea?

Your new HARD drive is larger than 120 GB? The HARD disk controller supports the 28-bit LBA and large drives as 120 GB will not be recognized by the BIOS.

What you mean with Enhanced IDE? The BIOS recognizes the new HARD drive with model number?

  • Tecra 9100: Try to install updadet driver for card his Yamaha AC - XG

    Hi all

I got a Tecra 9100 and like many others I had problems after installing SP2.

I tried to install the sound card with the driver downloaded from the toshiba support page:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/FAQ.jsp?service=EU&FID=TRO0000001b59

but I get a windows pop saying that the file yacxg.sys is missing.
Once the installation is complete and the sound card is not installed.

Is there anyone who can help me?

    Thank you
    Joazinho

The fact is that the driver listed in the FAQ from Toshiba is for SP1 and NOT for SP2

I think you should google a bit and should look for if you find an audio driver that is compatible with the Service Pack 2 update

Yamaha already provides the fixed driver.

  • Tecra 9100 - problem BIOS update/restore

    Hi all:

A few days ago, I (declining misguidely) tried to update the BIOS on my Tecra 9100. Now on startup I get the message "BIOS (Block1) is damaged! (Call the repairman). Technician: Place the maintenance disk in the drive and press any key when ready "." I tried to restore the BIOS by following the instructions on the web page of the BIOS (traditional method using a USB FDD) driver - put on with the key immediately to the left of the SPACEBAR key leads to the message "ready for the update of the BIOS. Place the BIOS update floppy in the drive and press any key when you are ready to move forward. "The disk is regularly consulted and the laptop will beep every 10 seconds for a period of a few minutes. Then it stops, but should be repeated after any key is pressed. There is however, no change in the information in the form and no result just possible restart in the same error message on the BIOS damaged.

Anyone can shed some light on what might be happening here? I'm afraid that I maybe should I follow a few instructions on the screen (as the instructions for the update of the BIOS suggest) that I do not see that the screen is not active? So I can't hit the correct answers when required. Should I really the military and its maintenance diskette? Is this disk available anywhere if I can do it myself?

Any help or suggestions that anyone can give on this subject would be much appreciated - I don't want to go hunting a new motherboard unless it is absolutely necessary.

    Cheers, Chris.

    Hello Chris

I am not a technician, but according to your assignment, I'm sure that your BIOS chip is damaged. I'm afraid of nothing that you can do everything alone. I recommend you call and explain the situation.

I'm really skeptical you will find these special tools online.

  • Tecra 9100 does not supply power to the top

    Hello

I got Tecra 9100 laptop computer and you have a POWER PROBLEM.
Basically, it got stuck at the start of the OS and I was unable to click or move the mouse to do something. So I held the power button to turn it off. I do not turn on again entered game coz I had to go somewhere.

So when I tried to move THE next day and he won't power upward. I can see a GREEN LIGHT but can not hear any CPU, the FAN, the monitor or the hard sound. When I connect to the AC adapter, I can see the LOAD LED but nothing else seems to be powered.

I also tried to replace the memory Module, but still won't power upward. I guess that the motherboard does not have to be ABLE so nothing is turned. But the one thing that I do not understand why the POWER LED on (GREEN LED) is on, unless it has the power source.

Can someone tell me what I need to do?
    Help, please

    Thank you

    Hi Sonia,.

I suggest that you try to remove the battery and power supply so that all power of the laptop is turned off. Reconnect AC power and try to turn on the laptop. If it works, then re-install the battery. I think that the electronics of power sometimes get "stuck" and this procedure usually receives smooth them.

If the unit still does not power on after having tried the above procedure, then I suuspect there must be a problem of internal material in which case you must take the device to a partner of Service authorized for rectification.

    Kind regards

  • The editable Tecra 9100 sound card?

Can someone tell me if the sound card on the Tecra 9100 is editable? And if so, where to find a new. And how to open the laptop in order to proceed to the place of the sound card.
    Thank you, Peter (of Germany)

    Hello

I think the Tecra 9100 uses a stand-alone sound table
Yamaha YMF753 - 16-stereo sound blaster pro compatible system (WAVE und MIDI) bits
It could be removed and replaced without replacing the entire motherboard, but that part can be ordered from the Toshiba service partner.
But it looks like you don't have many experiences from these exchanges of witch.

So I recommend you to contact a technician for these replacements.

  • Hi speed USB via a Port Replicator advanced for a Tecra 9100?

I have the same problem with a Tecra 9100 and upgrade to hi speed USB as a previous post where the proposed solution was to use a PCMCIA card.

    (see link: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=24103)

I had an idea, but I don't know if it will work and need some advice?

Can you buy an Advanced Port Replicator that has Hi Speed USB 2.0 ports on it (like the PA3082U APR II that works with the Tecra 9100) instead of the PCMCIA card.

If the docks of Port Replicator in the motherboard will it give you Hi Speed USB 2.0, or is the Tecra 9100 forced to USB 1.1 via hardware in the laptop itself and the Replicator will not help?

Also if I go down the road of Port Replicator I need drivers for speed ports Hi of the Replicator to work on the Tecra 9100?

Or to ask the question – what is the PCMIA USB 2.0 card in that advanced with HI Port Replicator speeed USB is not?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

the Tecra 9100 has NO usb 2.0 and it's a fact. Given that the Replicator has these USB ports 2.0 does not mean that your machine when it is docked to the Portrep, is able to manage USB 2.0 devices. The portrep, it's like a usb hub and behaves like. So if your machine doesn´t have it then that's it.

And the explanation on the PCMCIA/Cardbus solution:
The pcmcia card USB 2.0 Chipset, this is the reason why it IS a USB 2.0 device (roothub).

I hope this was clear to you :)

Just buy this card and you will have USB 2.0

    Welcome them

  • Tecra 9100: Delayed write failed - hard drives on their way?

    Hello again,

I am a member of the Club feared messages error "delayed write failed" and some of that my hard drives are to blame.

These errors pop - up when a large enough facility is in place, or whenever my system is written something great for my hard drives (which I might have to wait a while to complete). It happened before installing the battery Bluetooth Toshiba. My laptop has finally frozen during installation and all I could do was to move the cursor. 30 minutes in the installation, I get several of these stupid error messages. They say ' delayed write failed - file C:/xxxxx/xxx/xxxx was not justified perhaps due to a connection or hardware problem "(or something like that). When the message window there is almost no way to escape in out makes a power off. But when I turn on the back, I get the blue screen of death that checks my record of inconsistencies. It is very annoying and disturbing because it means probably that my hard drives should be cracking up.

After doing the search several times on the issue, I know it's my hard drives fault for sure. I have two hard drives; They both give me error messages. They must be on their way, after all I bought this 2nd hand computer laptop and they made noises strange "at delay." Recently, I noticed once they made a "beep" "beep". Never heard before so it cannot be good.

In any case, I think that I need new hard drives. Can someone recommend me one or two who are used to give me these error messages (and are relatively cheap at least 30 GB)? Thank you

P.S when I opened the PC health since the Toshiba Management Console it says '' drive S.M.A.R.T (disk 0) may fail soon. '' Ouch.

    Hello

Each HARD disk with adequate material specifications may work on the Tecra 9100.
The HARD drive should support an interface IDE (ATA-5) and should not be larger than 60 GB.
I'm sure that BIOS Tecra 9100 will support 30 GB, 40 GB and perhaps also the 60 GB.
But the larger sizes of HARD drive might not be recognized by the BIOS correctly.

By the way; You can make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country and could order the compatible HARD drive.
In this case, you will be sure that the drive is supported and runs without any problem to 100%.

  • Looking to replace my Tecra 9100

    Hi all

My tecra 9100 is flawed and in need of a new motherboard then it's time to invest in a new laptop, I won't bother repair because I was quoted A £320 for a motherboard.

Is there a model that would be compatible with my old power and docking station?

    Thank you

I have older Tecra M1 and I use it with the same docking station. It is portable model but really good and extremely quiet. I put t know what screen resolution you prefer but my Tecra M1 has 1440 x 1050.

I can really recommend this laptop for you.

  • My Tecra 9100 does not start correctly

    Hi all
    Please give me some advice.
The last time I used my tecra 9100 that it functioned very well. Then yesterday I turned it, it seems not initialize properly for the first seconds (light flashing disk showing done something) and then I heard a beep, and although the power was on, the hard drive light exploded.

Also during this time, my screen was completely black like when the laptop is turned off and has not changed at all.

What is going on? I can't know if there is a problem with my screen or the real hard disk (?)

I of course rebooted and rebooted and no change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hello Hans,.

You see the Toshiba "splash" screen when you first turn on your notebook? If you do then the display isn't obviously faulty and the problem will be with your hard drive. If your screen remains blank from the moment you turn on then it is most likely that you view is faulty.

It could, of course, also have problems with other components that cause the symptoms you describe, for example a failed motherboard.
