Tecra A3X appears "dead".

Hello
Just picked up a Tecra A3x sold as spare parts or repair.

OK, pop some memory, plug in the adapter and launch.
I get all the lights on the front, I can hear the hum of HARD drive but no screen. An external monitor shows nothing too (FN + F5 does nothing). The DVD is at work, it runs a disc quite happily

At first glance, it seems that it may be ok but... Remove all memory and I get the same actions. turns on but no video output.

There is no beeps, the only light on keyboard I get is if I press the FN key, then the light just below F11 lights up while you press FN

Is there a common failure on these Tecra given on the models of SP6xxx for example models. ?

Just to update a little.

According to records of Toshiba. This notebook should have a chip Intel SL7SA mounted (M740 1.73 Ghz) this is confirmed by the number on the bottom of the unit.
However, the installed smart is a Celeron 1.2 SL6F8.
Then, who should correct of course.
But... surely if the incorrect CPU has been mounted, the laptop wouldn't do anything?

    Hello

I think the problem is that the update of the bios (which is using windows) doesn't work under XP, so won´t you luck because it takes a working XP and common modules installed on your machine.

Unfortunately there is no other way to update your bios, but in your case it s is NOT necessary update the bios since the new version adds not important functions. So I think that it s not a BIG problem, and if your computer is running well, then ' that one ' and follow the good old "never change a system up and running.

  • Tecra A3X - how to remove the BIOS password?

    Hello

I have a Tecra A3x who died before Christmas. I bought a motherboard replacement on eBay. I mounted the motherboard and the powers of the Unit well stop but to a password screen that is black. I tried to find a way to wipe the BIOS and have removed the CMOS battery for about 10 minutes. I read that most laptops have a jumper built in too fix. I've looked in the usual places - memory modules etc. I can t find it anywhere.

Any help would be very welcome.

    Thank you
    John

    Hello John

As you probably know BIOS password is very important security feature and remove the BIOS password can be described on the public forum of the manufacturer s. It is a kind of top secret information.
It is not logical to do this, right?

Each Tecra A3X stolen with BIOS password could be unlocked.
In my opinion, you should contact the person who sells you this motherboard and request password. If he cannot stop, return. At this info in the description of the product on its offer to ebay?

  • Tecra A3X: How to run the recovery CD

    Hello

Can someone please help? I want to do a full restore on my tecra A3x, but when I start and you press F12 as I am told in my book, nothing happens, how do I do a cover of product. I did everything the manual tells me to do, so not obvious answers please. Thank you

    Hello

By pressing the F12 key immediately! After that laptop startup should allow a start menu.
Then you should be able to choose between different devices like ODD, drive HARD, LAN, etc.

Alternatively, you can try to press the C button allow booting from the CD/DVD drive.

Last but not least, you can change the boot order in the BIOS.
But don t forget to save the settings after changing in BIOS!

PS: in all cases the CD must be interested before indicating the laptop

  • Latest version of the BIOS necessary for a Tecra A3X

    Hello
I have a Tecra A3X (number of product PTA3XE-00NUB4) and I'm looking for the latest bios update.

On-site support world-wide, there are updates to v2.70 revision v1.4 (for series S2/A3: ts2_a3v27.exe), but when I try to use it it complains about unsupported hardware and that it does not level (I tried the direct upgrade from WinXP and cd burning methods).

On the french support site there is only a revision 1.4, which is the only one that has worked so far.

My laptop was bought for the Luxembourg, is the A3X model a different device than mentioned on the support in the world?

    Thanks for any help...

    Hello

Don t know which site you mean saying support in the world but the Tecra A3X site is without doubt a European model for laptop and you must use the page of European disk from Toshiba for the driver and BIOS download.

    I mean this page:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-> support download &-> download drivers

There is only one a BIOS v1.40 - WINNER.
So if you want to update the BIOS, you should use it.

  • Tecra A3x HDD issues

    Hello
I can access is no longer the HD - I knew it was on the cards as the laptop had been rather erratic has over the past two months. Now, whenever I turn it on, the hard drive makes a rattle noise.
So I guess I'll have to share that is not a problem.

Could someone point me in the right direction in sourcing a suitable replacement?

    Thank you!

You bought a SATA HDD and it won't.

Alphaleader describes exactly what you need.
    * You need an IDE (ATA) HDD.*

ATA is _not_ the same as SATA but it s an IDE interface.

Therefore, search for IDE hard disks.

Tecra A3X seems to be equipped with different HARD drive sizes; 40 GB, 60 GB, 80 GB.
I think you could use a 100 GB HARD drive; Maybe a 120 GB HARD drive too

  • Tecra A3x hangs at "Setup starts windows" during the XP installation

    Hi again
I posted another thread on this laptop. This question was cured by adjusting the correct CPU.

So, now everything seems fine. Everything seems to work except very well.
During the installation of XP, the drivers all will charge them and then we get the text 'Setup starts windows' the lower left of the screen.
It does not further, just sitting there.

I googled this problem and read many old threads on the subject, I went to the Microsoft website too.
So far I tried (on the basis of these old threads)

    Different installation discs
    Different memory
Disable (in bios) that anything not reqd such as Lan
    Reset the default bios settings
You press F5 when invited to press F6 for scsi drivers. From there, I tried different setting options.

The current bios is 1.30, I understand there is a update available for 1.4 but it is a basic installation Win rather than back may be done without THAT installed XP.

Suggestions for what the problem maybe?

    Hello

What version of Win XP you try? Win XP contains the SP3?
Please include to the Win XP SP3 using a tool called nLite and then try to reinstall Win XP.

AFAIK the Tecra A3x support a common IDE HDD so no driver RAID or SATA is necessary.

You can also check the HDD of the Tecra.
Use the tool called Drive Fitness Test to test the HARD drive

    Good luck

  • Tecra A3X-112: Fn + F1... Touch pad to work stoppage

    Hello everyone,

I have a Tecra A3X-112 on which Windows XP has been recently reinstalled.
I installed Windows XP before with other different copies, but this is the first time that I've known a few misadjustments.

My problem is that the combined with F1, F2... Fn keys stopped working, as well as Assist bottom on top of the keyboard.
In addition, the touchpad works, but I cannot turn it off.

I've been looking at the posts of some other users, and it seems that it is a problem to download the proper drivers from Toshiba Web page.

My question is: what drivers for the keys?

    a. for * Fn + function keys * should I intalled * utilities * or * Hotkeys utility for display devices? * There are even some users who recommend to installed a BIOS update or a common Module driver, but I'm not sure about this. By installing the appropriate driver, are all combinations FN + function keys work, or only some of them?
    b. for * Touch Pad *, should I intalled only * Touch Pad on / off utility * or * Touch Pad Driver * is also necessary?
    c. for * help the bottoms? *

    Send me the answers, please.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello

The features of FN keys depend on several different factors. As a first step, it is important to have installed common modules. She is named for the other Toshiba designed tools and utilities.
Just for example: for the use of the keys FN + F2 (standby power options), you need to install modules common and tool watch.
While the first step I recommend to install common modules again.
When you are finished, check the functionality of the FN and post the result.

For FN + F9, you need to install TOSHIBA Touch Pad on / off Utility. Before that, it must be installed ALPS Pointing - device Driver.
You know, it's not easy to simply offer a solution to this. All the drivers, tools and utilities must be installed in order to good facilities. After having done that, everything should work well.

One thing, to help buttons try with TOSHIBA controls again.

  • Tecra A3x: Is the IrDA Port available?

Hi can someone confirm whether or not the Tecra A3x (PTA3XE-01D00NEN) has to a port infra-red or not.

  • Can I put an external resolution 1440 x 900 on Tecra A3X

    Hello

    can I put a 19 Dell 1908WFP Ultra strong (1440 x 900) on a Tecra A3x position monitor interface?
It's a wide screen, and must be run on the resolution of 1440 x 900.

I have to make a presentation in England and cannot test it because the monitor is here.
The documentation says that you run a monitor station 1600 X 1200 with 16 colors, but what is widescreen? These modes are listed?

I hope someone can help because I don't want to stay here and my presentation is cut or with black borders.

    Thank you very much

    Bjoern

    Hello

I don t think you will be able to use the resolution of the widescreen 1440 x 900 on the external monitor.
I downloaded the user manual and there you can find the info that these resolutions are supported:
    1024 x 768
    1280 x 1024
    1400 x 1050
    1600 x 1200
    1920 x 1200

In addition, a high-resolution external monitor connected to the Tecra A3X can display up to 1600 x 1200.
But you should also know that even if the chip of the graphics card would support the wide screen resolution, you would not be able to choose 1440 x 900 if the graphics card driver could not support this resolution.

  • Tecra A3X - Intermittent display problem

I have several of this A3X laptop computer, with build different versions, but the latest display drivers. Probably bought at the same time.

It is an intermittent fault which has no template. Users encounter while using, so that the graphics appear goes and they are presented with a screen, can be either white, green, blue or purple.

The only way to resolve is hard boot the PC with on/off switch.

I plugged an external display while he did and the graphics appear ok on an external monitor. Is there a flaw known with graphics display on of the A3X?

I contacted Toshiba, who advised the re-boot, which suits him.

Updated the display driver graphic for the last patch, fault still occurs.
Cell phone everything rebuilt, fault still occurs.
Check all connections in the laptop display, re-sitting all connectors, down again.

Can anyone tell what to try next?

If the default does not appear on the external screen then either it's a faulty inverter FL or bad display itself.
Presumably why this happens, but in my opinion, it is meaningless because first it will not help to solve this problem and then the laptop parts are always stressed and these defects occur simply.

What to do do so only one real solution. The parts must be replaced or repaired.
I guess that the technicians don t fix devices individual but replace it with a new one.

Speak, the least reflection. you simply contact the ASP in your country for the control and the fix.
If the warranty is valid, everything must be done for free!

    Best regards and good luck

  • Question about Intel 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller in a Tecra A3X

    Hello

"Don t go to the sea where you can fish from the coast" - cited the user from another forum who wrote this solution to your problem:

    (1) go to the Device Manager
    (2) right-click 82801

    (4) No, not this time-> according to
    (5) install from a location specifin-> next

  • On the PCMCIA Port of my Tecra M appears as "unknown".

    Hi all

I have a Tecra currently and happily used a GPRS / WiFi PCMCIA card for some time.

However, all of a sudden the status lights on the card itself began to go mad. The device itself does not support logging, but that I have determined the PCMCIA had become confused.

More precisely, it looks like real hardware had to be reinstalled.

I did a reinstall of software for the card and the o/s (WinXP) itself, but nothing helped.

While there are still a few left uninstalled features by default, there is clearly an 'unknown' PCMCIA it which requires drivers.

Any idea where I can get these? I can't find them on the main download page. It may be watching me with elbows or a case of rtfm, if so, please excuse me.

    Thanks in advance.
    [email protected]

It would be useful to know what model of GPRS / Wifi PCMCIA card you use and the name of the client software.

After working on a well known UK mobile network connection utility, I can say that these devices can get tempermental, especially when another series of PCMCIA drivers has been installed before or since.

You seem to have tried the obvious solution, then googled around you can see if someone has had a similar experience and a possible solution.

  • Satellite A100-543: the battery appears dead

My battery died yesterday after I plugged it to my computer. In fact the computer turn off at this time. A burning smell has occurred and after, I tried to start the computer again and it works but the battery seems dead. When I'm on windows with the battery, it is written that it does not load, but I have my doubts because the computer recognizes that there is the battery.

So I would like to know if this could be something between the battery and the motherboard that is dead or if I can use my warranty. The strange thing is that other people use the same plug that I used without problem, I think, so that the battery has a problem before.

    Thank you.

Don t know exactly what's wrong, but it certainly looks like a hardware malfunction.
The A100 is a new machine and the guarantee must be valid and must cover all the trouble with the material.

Take my advice and don t spend a lot of time for the investigative measures which could be bad or not.
Simply contact the ASP in your country and explain the problem guys

I think everything should be done for free!
