On the PCMCIA Port of my Tecra M appears as "unknown".

Hi all

I have a Tecra currently and happily used a GPRS / WiFi PCMCIA card for some time.

However, all of a sudden the status lights on the card itself began to go mad. The device itself does not support logging, but that I have determined the PCMCIA had become confused.

More precisely, it looks like real hardware had to be reinstalled.

I did a reinstall of software for the card and the o/s (WinXP) itself, but nothing helped.

While there are still a few left uninstalled features by default, there is clearly an 'unknown' PCMCIA it which requires drivers.

Any idea where I can get these? I can't find them on the main download page. It may be watching me with elbows or a case of rtfm, if so, please excuse me.

Thanks in advance.

It would be useful to know what model of GPRS / Wifi PCMCIA card you use and the name of the client software.

After working on a well known UK mobile network connection utility, I can say that these devices can get tempermental, especially when another series of PCMCIA drivers has been installed before or since.

You seem to have tried the obvious solution, then googled around you can see if someone has had a similar experience and a possible solution.

  • My ancient Tecra PCMCIA port

    Hi all

Now you're going to laugh at this, but I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 720 TRC very crisp, running windows 98 OS. to business accounts etc, but I pay for an ISP connection for it.

I recently installed a wireless network around my house and a friend gave me a wireless adapter for the PCMCIA port. I installed the software for the hardware according to the instructions and put the card in a PCMCIA ports however to the control panel and the PCMCIA utility, read the two ports 'empty' is to say do not detect the card.

I went through all the usuals like run Add new Hardware etc etc and that he refuses the drivers manually.

But it's like my PCMCIA port is not active or broken. I've never used so far.

I took the card to a friends house to run on his laptop computer that runs XP and XP wireless it no problem. The card says that it is able to function with windows 98 etc., but being a newbie to all this stuff I don't know really what to do then as them is obviously not a problem with the adapter of the card itself.

Can someone help me out here?

    It would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello

as a first step, you should check your BIOS settings. There is the possibility to modify the parameters of the PCMCIA slots.

Here you can change to PC-CARD (16 BIT) to CARDBUS (32 bit).

Your wireless card is a 32-bit Cardbus PCMCIA Card.

If you have changed, the card should be detected and the appropriate W98 drivers can be installed!

  • Tecra S2: HDD as unknown device on two of the three USB ports

    Hey again,
I thought then that I was here anyway I could ask this too.
The tecra S2 has 3 USB ports, they all work very well for my USB mouse and other small things like the wacom tablet...
But when I plug my external hard drive in two of them, it says that it is an unknown device...

    I think, but am not sure, that this might have something to do with something once, we had to do in school;
We had once set up a pilot for a small converted Converter a series (or parallel, cant he recall) cable to the usb port
(I have already uninstalled the drivers but nothing has changed)

    It's just a guess...

any idea on how to solve this little problem? : p

    Hello

You said external USB HDD appears as an unknown device on two of the three USB ports.
What appears if you connect the HARD drive to the USB port on third?
It appears as an unknown device or what?

The device usually appears as an unknown device in device because manager not installed device drivers.
I check the HARD disk for the drivers and try to install it again.

  • Tecra M9 longer works with the Advanced Port Replicator III

    Hello

I have the Advanced Port Replicator III Plus (PA3474E-1PRP), and it works very well with my M5 (M3 and M200). For example I connect my laptop through it to my monitor/mouse/keyboard/external DVD/hard drives, sound, webcam etc...

Now, I'm to assess what should I buy as my next laptop and the M9 (PTM91E-03000MEN) seems good.

Question: * the M9 will work with my plu III advanced port replicator? *

Otherwise, * y at - it another docking station option that will allow me to connect a M5 and an M9 * please? (of course not at the same time).

If there is no solution that allows a single docking station for the M5 and M9, then I might as well choose a laptop from another supplier... Main reason to stick to Toshiba all these years is the docking station compatibility that I move older models to the newest...

    All thoughts welcome...

    See you soon

Tecra M9 and Tecra M5 do not have the same docking connector.
This means Tecra M5 is the APR III +, Tecra M9 has Express Port Replicator.
You need the correct docker for each system.

May it is a solution to be able to use the Toshiba Dynadock. It's USB based:

  • Tecra A8: external keyboard connected to the serial port: the necessary specific configurations?

    Hello
I want to share a monitor and an external keyboard with Tecra A8 and a desktop computer. To do this, I bought a switch 2-port Linksys where I plugged the external monitor and a keyboard. With the monitor without problem because there is a specific port for this. However my Tecra has only 3 USB ports and a serial port 6-pin where I connected (with a 6-pin Mini DIN adapter) on the keyboard. When I turn on the screen it's ok, but the keyboard (I also tried a mouse) does not work. Do I need a specific configuration on the serial port to accept the external keyboard? If so, what commands do I need on the XP operating system?
    Thank you
    Luis

RGB (monitor) port used to connect the external monitor.
If you want to connect the external keyboard, you have to use the USB ports.
Additional legacy USB emulation must be enabled for the keyboard.
These settings you can change in the Toshiba HWSetup under control panel.

If you connect multiple devices to the switch USB (hub) Please be sure that the USB hub using external power.
A low power USB could be a reason for the external USB device failure.

  • Tecra 8100: Don't know if the Network Port Replicator II is working properly

I had a PA3017E-1PRP, i.e. a Network Port Replicator II, for my Tecra 8100. The fact is: I don't know if it works. I plug the computer in and no new material appears. At least the 3Com NETWORK adapter should be recognized, but no sign of life is presented at all.

In addition, the USB ports does not work, but at least, the leds of the watch of the computer there is come from there because they show that battery is charging and the power comes from the DC.

So, how can I check that everything works correctly? The computer is Windows XP SP2 installed, and I installed all the drivers and the support of the utilities (common modules, mobile and other extensions) util Toshiba USA and Toshiba Configfree of Toshiba Asia...

    Hi Toka

I really put t know why you install software mix on your device. In my opinion, you should install European tools and utilities if you live in Europe. But if everything works it is also OK. I just want to make this comment because I don't know if all tools can consort with each other.

As much I know this unit only is not supported for Windows XP Home in Europe. If the US page has mobile extensions for Windows XP Home edition, I assume that it has been tested.

  • USB ports all failure Tecra S1

    Hello

my old Tecra S1 video card died last week and I managed to find an another identical Tecra S1 very cheap.
I swapped my portable hard drive in the new computer and everything works fine apart from any of the USB ports work.
Food sent to external drives USB but my computer does not recognize one of the 3 USB ports at all.

I tried to remove / replace the drivers but no change.
Also as I had my same old laptop for spare parts I have even replaced the USB turntable (as one of the original USB ports has been damaged) but still no change.

Could this be something to do with the version of the BIOS on the laptop as surely everything else should be already on my hard drive?
Maybe my old laptop had an older BIOS which might make a difference?

any help would be gratefully receieved as I looked the net but don't have anywhere!

    Thank you very much
    Ian

    Hello

First of all, you aren't sure if the USB port hardware is ok for this second Tecra S1. Right?
So, theoretically, it might be a hardware and software problem.

Generally, the USB ports are controlled by the chipset driver.
You replaced the HARD disk where the operating system is already installed
I think you should try to install the operating system once more on this second Tecra S1.
Then you should check the Device Manager if all the USB ports have been recognized correctly.

If the USB ports would be NOT visible in Device Manager, then I would tend to a hardware problem

Thunderbird 38.0.1 does not allow me to set the outgoing port, parameters of account or in the Assistant accounts again. To be able to do was my only reason for considering change of Qualcomm Eudora. This flexibility is apparently available in earlier versions. It is now a feature requiring the paid version?

Thunderbird is not free so no idea what you are talking about a paid version.

  • Using the Ethernet Port on a remote Express

I have just moved into a new House and has Verizon FiOS installed.  Verizon provided a router modem combination like my main wireless service.

I have an IP phone that I need to use in my office located in another room and the Verizon tech said that it would be very expensive to run a separate line in this room.

I have a generation current Airport Express.  I would like to use the Express to join/expand the wireless network in the office, but my question is, the LAN on the Express port will be active so that I can connect the IP phone to the LAN port and use the phone via wireless Express?

If possible, can you give us some guidance on how to configure the Express?

    Thank you

    David

I would use the Express to join the network wireless Office

The AirPort Express, expected to be able to 'join' the wireless network that is provided by the modem/FIOS router, assuming that the device uses wireless standard... parameters and... He Express is located where it can receive a strong signal of the FIOS router/modem wireless.

But, the Express can not "extend" or "repetition" of the FIOS wireless network, given that "expand" function requires the Express receive a wireless signal from another Apple wireless router.

.. .my question is, the LAN on the Express port will be active so that I can connect the IP phone to the LAN port and use the phone via wireless Express?

Yes.  In fact, you can use the LAN or WAN port, or both at the same time... because both ports behave as LAN ports when the AirPort Express "joins" a wireless network.

can you give us some guidance on how to configure the Express?

What camera... Mac, PC, iPhone / iPad... will you use for this?  What operating system is that it uses?
