Temperature of the GPU 103C on Latitude E6420

Hi, I recently started the Test PassMark Burn-In version 7 on my i7-2630QM Latitude E6420 with Nvida NVS 4200 M 512 M card. During the test, I noticed that the temperature of the GPU is about 103C and software reported "Test failure" due to the high temperature.

The temperature of the CPU is also high, around 93 C.

Is this normal? I would return this laptop?

Thank you

It is a known problem with the E6420 14 "laptop and the Quad core CPU. I have an E6420 and E6520. The E6520 manages the heat much better and higher out of GPU and 95 c 85 CPU when you run Diablo 3 for an hour on the resolution max and max graphics settings.   My laptop comes with the heatpipe heatsink only, he would downclock the CPU because of excessive heat and same judgment. After I got the radiator double pipe with a new thermal pad, my time is up to 100 ° C max on CPU and GPU and cell phone stops is more due to overheating.

The problem is Dell packed plenty of power in a computer 14 "laptop. When running at load max, the cooling system can not just keep it up. Dell should really fix this, but you can do some improvements on your end. FYI - don't try if you are not comfortable to do this or are tech / mechanical savvy.

Here's what I recommend:

1 make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed. Dell changed the thermal curves for the fan of the bios updates.

2 make sure you have the radiator HEATPIPE DUAL DELL P/N - TYP01. My E6420 comes with heatsink tube bad in the photo below.

One pipe radiator - ONLY for the DUAL CORE i5, i7. NOT FOR i7 QM QUAD CORES.

There is a "gap" between the radiator and the Nvidia NVS 4200 M GPU. Dell uses a NOTE from the ADMIN: profanity removed according to the TOU > heat transfer heat pad. many users have done the following to reduce even lower time by replacing the thermal pad with a wedge of copper sandwiched between two layers of thermal paste / compound. I don't know that Dell probably does not support below this mod even if users have reported the lowest time after the mod which stresses in turn of components less.

3 order the copper shim kit. www.eBay.com/.../260718120394

4. use a good thermal paste / made up for example ceramics 2: www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx

Finally - browse the forums on this site because there is a lot of information on your E6420.

Does anyone know the values of normal temperature for the GPU from NVIDIA 7600 Go series? After replacing the motherboard by the service, the GPU reached 82 degrees Celsius (180 deg F) (without executing 3d application) and only the main cooler blows. Under 3D performance he attained values around 100 degrees Celsius.
The values were obtained with the Everest program!

    Hello

Have you noticed the same temperature before replacing the motherboard?
AFAIK the P100 supports a clean cooler graphics card.

It seems that the GPU heatsink does not work. Why? Maybe the technician didn't properly connect I n don't know

  • Satellite A500 - problems with the temperature of the GPU

The thing is playing Age of Empires online I started having problems with the temperature of the GPU. When you run the AIDA64 the CPU stress test can hold up well, but after 35 minutes the test what AIDA suspended while the GPU fan can't seem to download their revolutions, (I guess that if there was that a rise in temperature would increase the speed of rotation of the fan, don't).

I consulted the manufacturer of the GPU, nVidia, (the graphic is nVidia GeForce GT 230 M) and tell me to contact Toshiba for other options, since, according to them, the problem is not the GPU.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

You use your laptop to factory settings?
Have you installed something that may be responsible for this (non-Toshiba display driver)?

  • High temperature of the GPU on Satellite P100-108

    Hello

Since 2 weeks ago I noticed that my GPU temperature goes up to 82 degrees. Everything to the left of the laptop gets hot after a few hours.
I remember that a fan used to put on when obtained temperatures high, but lately I don't hear it. HARD drive and CPU temperatures are normal.

If linux is used with acpi disabled, then a fan runs all the time and temperature of the GPU is around 50 degrees. I don't know what fan making all that noise, it could be the fan of the CPU or GPU maybe.

So, I'm not sure if it windows or hardware failure. Any ideas?

I put t know how you get this value of the temperature, but I guess you used the 3rd party applications that are not certified by Toshiba and I doubt that these tools would provide a good temperature.

  • What is the slot labled SC above the HD on my Latitude E6420

I was curious of what was the slot 'SC' above the HD on my E6420 for what a kind of expansion port? I can't find referance it works anywhere on the website.

The SC and the location ExpressCard slot are not the same.  I have a Latitude E6410, and it has a card slot smart (SC) on the left side and a slot ExpressCard (EC) on the right.  The slot of the EC is about 3 times thicker.  The smart card slot is for reading chip (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_card) and is a way to check someone's identity to allow them to use the computer and is shared with the Government and various companies.  The slot Express Card (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExpressCard) is for expansion devices, such as wireless or USB 3.0 ports maps.  ExpressCard is the newer and faster standard replacement for older PCMCIA cards.

  • Satellite X 205-S9349 - Question on the temperature of the GPU

    Hello

    I bought a * Satellite X 205 - S9349 * 10 months ago a recently installed a temperature monitor for the nVidia 8700 M GT card. When using 3d modeling applications, I recorded the average temperature in * 97 degrees Celsius *.

The computer translates a temperature idling of * 60 degrees *. The computer is present in an air-conditioned room, which is in the average temperature is * 19 degrees *.

What's the normal functioning of the X 205-S9349 temperature when it is at full load?

This temperature may harm my computer?

Is that what I can do to reduce the temperature without voiding the warranty offered by Toshiba?

    Thanks in advance,
    Pabst

PS: I stalled the back of my computer to the top so that air can easily circulate through the bottom.

    Hi Pabst

In my opinion there is no reason to panic. If you use the original display driver laptop Toshiba is protected and if the laptop will not appear at the level of the critical temperature will stop automatically to avoid damaging the material.

With rear shoring is great idea. Sometimes I do the same. The laptop can be cooled much better. And one more thing: don't always believe that show these third party applications.

    Good luck!

  • Missing menu of BIOS activation to activate the keyboard backlit on latitude e6420

    Hello

I bought a backlit keyboard for my 6420 latitude which was only equipped with a model not illuminated at the time I got it.

By pressing Fn + >, nothing happens. I have read many things on the web, and it seems that we must go into the BIOS and enable the backlit. I said I should find the menu under system configuration and illumination of the keyboard, but I do not have this menu...

I also had a quick glance and shortcut keys and were those related to the backlit keyboard... Looking at the Control Panel, properties of the keyboard, I do not have the backlight tab, «Brightness keyboard»
Anyone know how I can activate my backlit keyboard and detected it as such?

Before buying the backlit keyboard, I am in contact with Dell support to make sure that I can upgrade my laptop with a backlit model without facing compatibility issues. They told me that I just needed to order the backlit model as a spare part and it will work... but it's not...

Did someone knows how I can get the backlit keyboard work or is it just bad luck and it would never work? Thank you in advance for your help!

Don't know if this question has been answered but, while I came here looking for the answer that I accidentally he figured out on my latitude e6410, press the function key and the arrow to the right, it has been located here with the brightness of the scree.

  • Satellite L500 - the GPU temperature high all in game

    Hi all

I use a laptop L500 with the following:

    Windows Vista 64 - bit SP2
    Intel Core 2 Duo @2.1 GHz T6500
    4 GB OF RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series.

I followed my GPU temperature while performing a new game with the GPU - Z utility.

As soon as I start the game the temperature rises of 65-70 ° C to 90-100 + C in 10 miutes. There seems to be a link between temp and performance, so when my temp fires the game fps drops dramatically. Whenever I alt tab the drops back to normal within a few minutes.

My question is wheather this high temperature is ok or he says something of a cooling problem? If I have to clean my laptop I would expect a notable difference (never cleaned - was used for 18 months)? I read somewhere that updating my BIOS since v1.4 could possibly help, it's true and it's worth the risk?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much

    Hi Mirari,

    > If I clean up my laptop I would expect a notable difference (never cleaned - was used for 18 months)?
Oh yes, you will have noticed a big difference if you use already for 18 months now and never clean it before. Normally, the laptop must be cleaned every 3-4 months and after this time and cleaning you will notice a difference that laptop will run much cooler again, but I have to say that I use my laptop every day.

It of not difficult to clean the cooling system because you don t have to disassemble the laptop. All you need is a stream of air compressed to blow the dust from the cooling fans, as described here:

  • Switchable graphics: is it possible to use the GPU Radeon ONLY?

    Hi all

I have two laptops: one is a Latitude E6420 and the other an Inspiron 14 Intel N4050.

Both have switchable graphics; NVIDIA Optimus on the E6420 and Radeon on the N4050.

I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit genuine on both machines.

With the E6420, if I choose, I can either affect the GPU discreet default one or can I just go into the BIOS and disable Optimus, which makes the machine run only on the dedicated graphics card (I normally do, since I'm almost never far from an outlet.)

Unfortunately, I have no such control with the N4050. I wonder if there's a similar way to disable shared Intel GPU on the N4050 in order to force him to run only on the Radeon graphics cards. There seems to be no way to do it via the BIOS, and I think that the deactivation of the GPU from Intel in Device Manager is not a good idea. I know I can control which GPU crosses where the Switchable Graphics method in Catalyst Control Center, but this function appears not yet to disable completely the shared GPU (which seems to take when running on battery - there is no apparent way to say with certainty what GPU no is used).

Thanks in advance; your help is greatly appreciated.

The answer is no, it's not.  The AMD GPU has no connection with the display device - all video data through the GPU on Board of the Intel processor.

You cannot disable the on-CPU GPU - if you do, you will get no display at all.
