Test drive Lenovo

I had a pretty good day until the red mark little shown on the symbol in the Toolbox.  The hard drive failed the test of random search.   I repeated it with the same results. I installed the Active Protection system and know it works.  About how long should I before what can I expect to fail?  It is just a 100 GB drive and that he was likely to be replaced soon anyway, but this time of the year was not the best.  Fortunately I of its big brother, but the 15.4 seems more like holding an office that is closing.

I don't exspect the worst, but take action before the final crash

Check the f.ex. S.M.A.R.T - results. with Everest and AIDA32. If there is a warning or failure, buy a new HARD drive and to clone the old drive to the new one after replacing the old.

  • Complaint driver Lenovo G550 Wi - Fi and porting Windows 8.1

    Hello!

This is my first post on this forum and I hope that I have the right place to post, as I've seen other topics concerning the g550 on this forum.

I have read the discussions about the use of Windows 8 and its drivers and also problems with the wi - fi driver - it is the inability to provide a service of quality - problems with a "weak signal".

Let me put it this way:

    1. at this moment I am Windows 7 64 bit and as my pilot wi - fi, I use the system planned when I installed it, it's:

So far, it is the best WiFi driver available, that gets me the best discovery of network (I see on the 10 available wi - fi networks using this).

    2. to install the driver provided on the Lenovo Site's Driver, i.e. broadcom driver combined 32-bit/64-bit, the number of networks that I can connect to via wi - fi decreases from 10 to only 2 networks, one of them being my neighbor router! This is unacceptable in my opinion! Now, the speed of the network cannot deviate too much, but the pilot clearly lacks some features, because he can see only 2 instead of 10 networks - in the same place!

Now, for Windows 7 x 64 things are good, I just stick to the provided windows (4.176.75.21) driver and I can use wi - fi without any problem in the world, at a good rate of functionality and performance.

My problems are now turning to the 64 bit version of Windows 8, more precissely 8.1. I experimented with this and put aside the problem of wi - fi, which I can fix is more, everything seems fine and I'm pretty satisfied how my sistem works on win8 64-bit.

    The problem:

    (a) when running with the supplied Win8 driver, networks are few, just like using the driver lenovo, or even worse - a single available network - my router - 100 cm near my laptop! No other available network... Very bad.

    (b) for installing the same win7 32/64 bit driver on win8, which works without compatibility issues - I get the same results as the installation of the configuration of windows 7: 2 networks are in the same place.

I read on the forums, that there may be a chance that lenovo will ship 8 to g550 windows drivers, but if they work in the same way that the current drivers for win7, they will be of no use to the expected rate of return. Can someone do something about providing better drivers, look at this problem?

I also tried to deceive win8 and port the driver win7 64 for windows 8, by extracting the location of the pilot of the iso file or windows 7 installed driver (obtained a .inf and .sys file) but ultimately I can't install it in Windows 8, even with the option 'have disk... '. ", where he finally tells me that's not a win8 supported 64-bit driver. (No signed drivers problems or displaying a message).

Now, as a solution for this, I would be grateful if someone could recommend one of the following:

    (1) either a way to make the driver lenovo work better, to configure it somehow, or provide another driver for win 7-64 which can also be run on win 8 (what should be), which has good performance

    (2) provide a 'port' mode the current win7 that works best with my Broadcom WiFi for windows 64-bit of 8.1 driver.

    Thanks for following this!

OK, I solved my problems, this topic can be closed, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll leave here the method in which I acted, as well as any other person who is faced with the same problem will be facilitated by this guide.

    Here's what I did:

    (1) carries the wireless driver for windows7 - that came on the original dvd - copied three files: two .inf files and a sys file, I believe - cannot remember exactly. Anyway, you can use export driver software and select your driver and it will automatically detect and retain the necessary driver files. I have saved files and if someone needs them, pm me and I'll tell you which files they are exactly, or send them.

    (2) once I got the win7 drivers, I entered my install windows 8.1 and accessible "Advanced Boot Options", which has an option available to select certain features on the next reboot-> you click on restart to see advanced features.

    (3) select 'disable' in the boot options advanced, driver signing checking once they appear, after the restat. This is necessary in order to get errors that do not allow you to install the win7 driver do not.

    (4) it just go to the device driver update manager, have the disc, select your .inf and there you go, just a few guests on the absence of the driver of a signature and you're ready, you can install the driver without problem.

In my case, it worked perfectly!

I did it too with other win7 drivers, and it worked also.

    Tip:

If you have problems and the pilots still doesn't work, check the .inf file, it may need some modifications.

See if there is a section 6.2 NTAMD4 (this is for win8) and if it isn't, or if this article contains no lines, just create or update the same lines that you see in tights under articles 6.0 or 6.1 also in section 6.2. Then the disk method will work for your desired Windows 8.1 driver installation.

I think this can be useful for many situations, not only for this specific driver and model laptop, but for the most part are questions users driver compatibility.

  • trying to get test drive unlimited to run on windows 7

I've successfully loaded the pc version of test drive unlmt. on our pc that is running windows 7.  but when you click to start the game displays the cd turns as it tries to load, after about 10-15 seconds the game window appears for a second then disappears completely and stop trying to load the game. I entered the Compatibility Wizard and selected all versions of vista and xp it and tried to reload the game under these parameters and the same thing happens. I've also selected the compatibility tool and let him try to find the compatible version (he told me vista)...

Thanks for any help or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hello

Compatibility of the game Test drive unlimited is not supported with Windows 7, and will be compatible in the coming days, to know more about it, you need to follow this link below.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/search.aspx?type=software&s=test%20DRIVE%20unlimited

So the only option you have, is to install XP mode on your computer and then install the game in XP mode and try to play the game.

If you want you can test the XP Mode (if you have the time and the ability to install/reinstall, etc) - download Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day trial. It is designed specifically for the professionals, so we have to say that you are a COMPUTER professional.

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/cc442495.aspx

Then download and install XP Mode.

If you have Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate/Enterprise you can download and install Windows XP Mode. XP Mode is a virtual XP installation that is running in Windows 7.

Your computer must support virtualization. You can check that your PC hardware works with Windows XP Mode by downloading and running the tool:

If you must enable hardware virtualization on your computer:

    1. reboot your computer and enter the BIOS settings.
    2. search for the setting of virtualization in the BIOS and enable it.
    3. save the BIOS settings and restart your computer.

After that you can goahead and install the game and check whether the problem is resolved.

  • I just bought a refurbished with Windows 7 computer. I did a test drive of Works 9.0, and lacked features that I found.

I just bought a refurbished with Windows 7 computer.  On my old XP computer, I used to use Word 97 and later also used a version of works that might have been 2004 (?).  (Usually I only used word processing and Excel.)

I took a test drive of Works 9.0, and found features that I liked were missing, specifically:

    • Previously with Word I could draw snazzy borders on the table cells, which some had graduated shading that looked almost like a real 3-d picture frame.  These borders changed to something else (rather ugly) when I took an old Word 97 and load in Works 9.0 word processing document.
    • With a table created in Word 97, it was easy to summarize a bunch of numbers that were all stacked in a column (or do other types of math).  Could not do with the Works 9.0 word processor.

(These features were absent from Open Office as well, or at best have been tedious to use.)

Word usually has features more and better than the works (such as those mentioned above)?

Any suggestions on what I should use for word processing? Should not be the latest version, but should be compatible with Windows 7.

Office 2007 and later nothing will work on Windows 7 but do not expect the full set of features in Office 97. Office 2007 and beyond have their own sets of complete functionality... :-)

The problem is the purchase of older versions of Office. Microsoft does not provide them and you won't get one of them cheap.

Corel has always produced WordPerfect... http://www.WordPerfect.com/us/product/Office-suite/?sso_test=true

Free and Open Office are the alternatives...

  • FDS Test Drive - help with examples of applications

I try to use the FDS 30 minute TestDrive sample applications inside
Flex Builder. I downloaded the test drive and all the samples of work
fine just dandy, and I can view source etc. Then I wanted to load
some of the apps sample in Flex Builder so that I could edit and
play with them with the debugger to learn more.

    I tried the following:
create the new project - use Flex Data Services/compilation app locally
    Root folder: C:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT
Root URL: http://localhost:8600 / ROOT. When I cliquerai to finish, I get the
After 3 errors in the output panel:

Unable to load SWC fds.swc: multiple points
Unable to load SWC fds.swc: multiple points
The definition of local base class was not found.
Could not resolve < mx:Application > for implementation of component

    I'm on Flex 2.0.143459.

I checked that fds.swc is indeed in the
    C:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\flex\libs folder.
I don't know what mean other messages or what to do.

I then unzipped stubbornly examples of applications in the
Project file FlexBuilder (I called FDS TestDrive samples) and
tried to run anyway to see if I could get more information. I then get
a browser with the following additional errors window:
    type of status report
    message /ROOT/FDS%20TestDrive%20Samples/Chat.html
    Description the requested resource (/ROOT/FDS%20TestDrive%
    20Samples/chat.html) is not available.

So I guess that one of the problems is that it does not have an html document.
But I don't know how to fix this.

I don't know what to do. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Someone helped me offlist that once I'm frustrated that this forum is basically dead. But in case anyone else needs this info, I thought I would post. First of all, be on Flex version 2.0.155577. I have therefore had to redownload all of Flex, uninstall my old version, install the new version. Then I did the following
to create the Flex Builder project for the dashboard sample application:

    File - > new-> Flex project
    Select Flex Data Services
    Select the application compiles locally
    Click next
Uncheck the "default local Flex Data Services location"
    Click Browse... and open c:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT
    Root URL: http://localhost:8600 /
    Context root: /.
    Click next
    Project name: ;
Uncheck the "Use default location" checkbox
    Folder: c:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT\dashboard
    Click next
    The main application file: dashboard.mxml
    Click on finish

The context root is really essential. Also, to find my old Flex projects, I used file:import and then had to do a little more fiddling with some of the properties of the project.

Too bad, this Forum is dead. I tried to get feedback to Adobe on this concern, but so far it has not helped. sigh

  • What does the 'Keep Your Drive' Lenovo?

I have a default/a SSD failed in a relatively new X230t (under warranty).

Several attempts to clone the drive (using some tools) has resulted in reports not having read some areas on the SSD. Lenovo hardware analysis indicates: test targeted reading - short failed, SMART self-test - failed.

Contact us Lenovo and they indicate the DSS must be replaced and they send a shipping box.

However, Lenovo announced that you can 'Keep Your Drive'... "give you peace of mind knowing that your valuable data is safe.

So should I remove the SSD before sending it or...?

Contacted Lenovo and mentioned politics KYD to the service agent. I suggest rather than to send back with or without the SSD Thinkpad, they ship just a new SSD. They said OK, so this is obviously the way Lenovo KYD policy is supposed to work.

  • Optical drive Lenovo Z51-70 is a dummy

I recently bought a Lenovo Z51-70 and discovered later that the optical drive is a mannequin. This information was not in the technical specifications, before I bought the computer, but nevertheless, my question is:

Is it possible to install a real optical drive instead? Is there only certain types of optical drives, that I can install on my laptop?

    Thanks in advance.

If the OEM does not list a device or port you can imagine so is NOT included or integrated. Options that you can add are not specifically mentioned in the preview or short then call spec that are in any way vague. At least there is a place to add it to the internal. I hate the system where there must be an external device. EG if HDMI is not mentioned then it's not a! You might think every system would have one, but the flagship of Thinkpad T520 did not have and was not mentioned. We must therefore really check especially when buying online as you can not see a lot of things.

    Thank you

    Hello

Your computer is listed as coming with a 320 GB hard drive, but you can also easily install a 500 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - the player on the following link is an example that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 45 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery DVD to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.

    Order HP recovery disks.

If you have a problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the United States, contact HP here.

If you are in another part of the world, begin here.
