The "64K limit for the total size of all the values in a registry key" rule - not more valid?

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/256986
- more information -> Description of the register article, it is said:

Note There is a 64K limit for the total size of all values of a key.

I don't see that this rule can be valid any longer?

In my Windows 7 SP1 x 64, I have at least 15 keys with values that add up to more than 65 535 bytes.
In fact, I have more than 15 values (strings, binary and multiple channels) which, by themselves, have some sizes larger than 65 535 bytes.

Here are a few examples.

Native Instruments Kontakt 5 installation;
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\B354255567BB3E5479D39FE554E87D08\Features]
-This key contains 91 string values, where 90 are under 250 bytes, but the last of them. "FE923650A" has a length of 67 401 bytes of data.

Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011 installation;
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\FFECC85A69B39040E99BEA59BF78957B\Features]
-This key contains 14 values of string, ranging from 1 (the 'P' value) byte to 75 426 bytes (value "max7"), bringing the total size of 116 944 bytes.

Installation of Windows 7 by default.
[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCompatCache]
-This key contains a binary value of monkey 'AppCompatCache' that has a length of 259 768 bytes of data.

Another installation of Windows 7 by default;
[HKLM NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\CurrentLanguage]
-This key contains 2 channels multiple values: 'Meter' (87 950 bytes) and 'Help' (418 345 bytes), a total of 506 295 bytes for this key.

Finally, once again Windows 7 installation by default.
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage2]
-This key contains 3 DWORD and 5 binary values with the value "ProgramsCache" being the most important of all with its 795 404 bytes
either a sum of 807 639 bytes for this key.

    It is not the way to find the size of the table or any object in the database, you cannot get assuming or by calculation size data type. Here it is the query to get the size of the object in the database.

  • try to reinstall the software HP provides registry key there is no error

    Registry problem?

    Several days ago, I uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2011 and installed AVG Internet Security 2012 on my and my portable computers wife. Today, I discovered a problem on his requiring the uninstallation and reinstallation of our HP printing software. Siena (running Windows XP Media Center edition SP3) worked as expected. However, on mine (running Windows XP Pro SP3) reinstalling the HP software stopped and could not continue. The following message appears: "Windows Installer Registry - this registry key does not exist and is required for the installation to continue. Please make sure that the registry key exists and click Retry to continue the installation. "Registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {000c101c-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}.

    Two days ago I was able to install AVG so I suspect that something has happened with the HP software uninstalling.

    So, I need help and recommendations on a fix. I hope that the fix is not to charge the full operating system. If absolutely necessary I can do but this is not the preferred solution.

    First of all, the thread that I've referenced mentioned two key.  So when you checked, have you looked at a time

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

    and its main

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} \ProgId

    If both of these keys have identical values as identified in the linked thread, run the reg file should have no effect one way or another.

    Do a system restore to a point before you changed antivirus applications is an effort worth it.  You can not, however, use system restore to uninstall and reinstall the applications.  Before your doing a system restore, uninstall AVG.  Do the system restore.  Then re-install Norton (or, better, don't reinstall Norton; in this case, make sure that you are not connected to Internet).  See this FAQ--> http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#5

    In fact, if you haven't already done so, you can run the tool to remove Norton, just to make sure that your problem is not caused by a few remaining remnant of Norton.  See https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

    Microsoft KB article you mention addresses issues to uninstall applications.  As a general rule, Norton products should be removed with the removal of the above link tool.  Installs the printer may be deleted by following the directions here or here.  The Windows Installer Cleanup utility can be very useful.  Unfortunately, Microsoft has removed this utility of its download servers because it sometimes more removed he was supposed to.  It can always be obtained from http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html is a similar tool (free) Revo Uninstaller.

    Good luck.

  • Spill coffee on the keyboard and now 3 keys do not work

    I spilled coffee on the keyboard. Now 3 keys do not work. What should do?

    Replace the keyboard.  There is nothing here that can be repaired by a user, and wild stories you see on the Internet about doing things like «put the keyboard in your dishwasher and...» "will not work.

  • [Acrobat Reader DC] The HKCU registry key are not replicated for each user than Adobe Reader

    For Adobe Reader, all the registry keys that are added with the Adobe Customization Wizard are automatically added to each user. Unfortunately, it is not the same with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

    They have registry keys must be stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEWow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\2015\Installer\Migrate to automatically add in the HKCU to the user at first launch of the application. But they are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEWow6432Node\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\ [RegistryHiveName] \Installer\Migrate, as we can see on the screenshot below:

    reg.PNG

    The problem is probably one of the custom action. The registryhivename variable is not translated. I do not have a lot of research, but waiting on a solution from Adobe, I did a PowerShell script that move registry keys in the right place:

    Move-Item - Path "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat" [RegistryHiveName'] \Installer\Migrate\*'-Destination "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat" - force

    (PowerShell must be run in 32-bit)

    If Adobe can fix in the next release, !

  • I want to save the output and set all the values in a table, but do not

    I put in the picture, when I type run, no error, but I have nothing, which is my logical trap?

    Here's a way to connect it via a registry to offset.  Note that I also moved table entry outside the loop and used autoindexing. I used also initialize array rather than a constant matrix.  There is nothing wrong with the constant use of matrix, but using the array to initialize allows the program to adapt to the size of the input array.

    As indicated on the diagram could not plug the cable of data since the fuzzy Controller.vi because I do not have this Subvi.  You will need to make this connection before testing.

  • On reboot, the system using old registry keys

    When I restart my system, it uses some old registry settings. The desktop resolution, background and the old file locations are adjusted to the same settings, regardless of what I put it at the stop. for example, if I change the resolution of 1600 X 1200 or 800 X 600 or any other parameter, the next time I reboot, it is up to 1280 X 1024 (my material is sufficient for resolutions). Even on the files. If I copy / paste a file in a different directory, at the next startup, the file already exists in the old directory as well. But I am able to add new files to any folder.

    I suspect that some malware changed some registry keys. Please tell me if my guess is correct and solution, as appropriate.

    Thank you.

  • had to install the new hard drive, windows key does not

    My hard drive died in my Inspiron 660. I ordered a new hard drive and a recovery Dell USB key. A recovery key for Windows 8 pro based on my recommended by Dell service tag. I installed the new drive and used the recovery key to install Windows 8 pro. I then used a third-party tool to get the product key from the BIOS. The product key does not work. I wonder if the product key on the BIOS isn't for Windows 8, Windows 8 pro. If so, the wrong recovery key recommended by Dell.

    What should I do to activate Windows successfully?

    Original title: unable to connect to wifi on windows 7 on Dell laptop

    Help!  I went on vacation and used my laptop to DVD play only.  I am now back home and cannot connect to the Internet.  I tried all sorts of resolutions without result.  When I use the Troubleshoot utility, it tells me to stop my router and turn it back on.  I've done this multilpe times at this point.  Once I keep in the resolution of the problems, I get the same message again and again: "wireless network connection is not a valid ip configuration.  I disabled McAfee and morning services.  I used the command prompt to reset WINSOCK, IPv4 and 6.  I turned power on and off wireless by using the key on the keyboard.  I disabled and enabled the network connection.  I have the driver-upated.  I know the router works properly from my iphone and iPad is all connected without problem.  I removed and added to the wireless network.  In the network and sharing Center (I would copy and paste the view up here, if I could, but since I can't get online...), it is said "unidentified network, no internet access" on the right side, and he also says that I'm connected to a public network.  There is no link to click for the public network and I can't seem to find a way to change it to the House (there are no options, no links).  I tried to solve this problem, after I get home from work every night and I'm so frustrated that nothing works.  Please, please help!

    Kristine,
