The backup of an older operating system to a new operating system

Original title: OLD BACKUPS

Hello

I have problems trying to restore files or backups of DVDs that have been created on other computers by using old windows operation operation sysytems since I bought the NEW desktop hp-81414/envy running Windows 8 PC. Someone with the same problem or a response would be much appreciated!

Glenn

Unfortunately, you have found why you should never use DVD to back up.  A dvd drive may not read another and even the player even 6 months later maybe isn't able to.

You can't 'restoration' of one OS to the other.  You can copy files from one to the other IF the dvd player can read.

If your copy of Windows is preinstalled, then the copy of the product key should be on a sticker on the side of the Tower (for desktop computers) or on the bottom (for desktop computers) and the certificate of authenticity (COA). If you no longer have this sticker, then contact the manufacturer of your computer to help with the key, you can check out the link below to get contact information for computer manufcaturer associated with MIcrosoft.

  • How to make the backup of the system on the HP XP computer?

my friend says that she is positive that it is built in a way on a HP computer to back up your system... y at - it a such thing as a backup system? I don't mean the system restore, I mean backup; to back up files etc.; or I have to use the one I have to pay for?
    * original title - is built in a way on a HP computer to make a backup of the system? *

    Yes and no.
Yes, because Windows XP comes with a "NTBackup" program that will back up your system.
No, because this program is not installed by default on a Windows XP Home System.

On an XP Pro system, you follow these steps to start the backup program:
    Start-> programs-> Accessories-> system-> backup tools

    On a XP Home system:

I recently had my phone stolen. Fortunately, enough that top has been saved. In order to save insurance money for other things, I am considering the reduction in the strength of 128 GB to 64 GB. It will not restore if it contains more than held the replacement phone.

    Hi Hector.

    1. what version of Windows operating system is installed on your computer?

    2. you use software to perform the system backup and restore?

3 is the issue limited to any particular file?

First of all, I suggest you click with the right button on the backup files and check the size of the file in the Properties window.

Try to copy and paste the files to the computer and check if you are able to access the files.

You can also check if the folders are hidden. If the folders are hidden, so you can view folders and check if you are able to access the data.

    1. press the ALT key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to display the toolbar.
    2. click on tools, then Options of folders, and then on the view tab.
    3. then choose "show files and folders". After clicking OK, they appear with the other files.

Hope that the information provided is useful.

  • Taken to the backup of the windows operating system 8 in a USB key (as a recovery drive) but...

    Hello

I recently bought a Lenovo laptop, Y510p, with operating system Windows 8 unique language. The guy in the store who says his best to take backup of the operating system in a recovery USB disk and said it will take at least 22 GB of space. So, I bought a 32 GB usb 3 pen drive and stored the backup in there, but to my surprise, it took only 13 GB of space. Now, can't do anything with the space remaining on the USB key. My doubt is that, after 6 months or a year, is possible to move the backup content immediately of this 32 GB disk in an another USB 16 GB of space and the boot through it?

    Hi Natasha,.

I understand that you have created a Windows 8 USB recovery disk and you found it took only 13 GB of your USB 32 GB. So, you want to know if you can transfer it to a 16 GB USB key and delete the one that you have created on the 32 GB drive so that you can use the drive for other purposes.

We are not able to transfer the recovery image that you created on your USB stick 32 GB on an another USB. However, if your PC comes with a recovery on the hard drive partition, you simply copy the image recovery of this partition on your USB drive 16 GB and can use it as a recovery in the future.

The recovery image is stored on a recovery partition on the hard drive of your computer. Windows 8 built-in tool lets you copy this partition recovery from the PC to the USB key. Please refer to the article below:

    Create a recovery USB disk

    Hope it will be useful.

  • Windows running in the backup drive D: after system reboot

I rebooted my system yesterday and discovered that it had been done in the backup drive D which has only 1 g backup space. I can't do another reboot because there is no space in the drive.

My question is: A) how to get the operating system to run on the main C drive

    (B) I'll be able to remove the old operating system to drive D

    Dell XPS 1530

    Vista 32 bit

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Delete older backups and free up space on the D drive.

To remove old backup files, under the backup of data files, click View backups.

You can then select the backups of files that you want to delete, which will free up disk space. Remove an entry in the list will not affect the other backups. If you think that you don't need one version of your files from a certain backup period, you can delete that backup. We recommend that you always keep the most recent backup.

    Hello

If you have a recovery disk partition hard HP are the people to contact about this

It's their recovery partiton not microsofts

and they have their own special way to make the recovery partition recovery disks

If as you say your backup centers is not more work you can use 3rd party software to make a complete picture pc

or if you just want to reinstall a new copy of vista, read this:

    borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

then get the hp vista drivers

Lol just a license, not two.

In addition, even if you had two licenses, you couldn't do that. You can
not upgraded from Vista to Windows 8. You can do a cleaning
    installation.

  • Lost bookmarks do not recover, system shows "failed to process the backup file ' how to solve?

The ability to access saved previuosly bookmarks disappeared recently. I work in the system to get a restore from an earlier date (10 files appear), but to all the world I get the message - Impossible to treat the backup file - I think that this has coincided with a recent update. Are you able to help?
    Carl

One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

  • Moving backups Time Machine - the operation cannot take place because the backup item is not editable

I want to change the external hard drive that I use for my time machine backups. I went through the steps listed here:

Time Machine: How to transfer backups from a current backup disk to a new backup drive - Apple Support

It seems to work correctly. I shot TM back and adding the new drive. TM is now backing up files on the drive up, but there is a problem.

For some reason, TM has begun to put backups "freely" for lack of better in the external hard drive, and not in the backups.backupdb folder for a week, then returned to save them in the backups.backupdb > ComputerName > files from backups. So in other words, when you click on the hard drive in the finder, it opens the player and you see a folder named Backups.backupdb and then a bunch of mixed in which files are backups time machine named 2016-01-24-XXXXXX, etc.. When you go to the folder Backups.backupdb, there's a more random "loose" time machine backup file 2016-01-23-XXXXXX, and then another folder with the name of computers and in the folder are all TM backups except loose ones I mentioned earlier.

It seems that TM is working properly now, but I don't know why he put the files from the first days outside the backup folder. However, when I do drag, I get the error:

The operation cannot be completed because backup items is not editable

I want to just put all the files in the right folder so that I can A) keep my disk organized and (B) ensure what TM can find everything correctly should I have to go back.

No idea what is happening and how to fix it?

Although the documentation Apple says you can copy Time Machine backups in the Finder, it is very slow and sometimes does not.

This technique works only if the volume that you copy to the same size or larger that that you are copying to.

First of all, please open the Time Machine preference pane and click the Select Disk... button. You may be able to unlock the settings first, by clicking on the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window. Log in as administrator.

Remove the volume you want to copy in the list of backup destinations. Then turn off Time Machine.

Launch disk utility, open the built-in Help and search for the term 'Double '. Follow the instructions. All existing data on the destination volume will be deleted. That shouldn't be a problem, because you do not want to mix non-sauvegarde and backup data on the same drive anyway.

If the volume you are copying has been encrypted by Time Machine, you must first unlock it. Click the release button in the toolbar of the disk utility window.

Turn Time Machine back on and select the new volume as a backup destination. Alternatively, you can continue to use the old volume, if you wish. Both will be alternated when both are available.

ATTENTION: If you copy the volume is corrupted, as shown by the ERD or first aid in disk utility, while corruption is copied to the new drive. Do not copy data from a damaged on a faulty disk volume. Put aside the reader and do not use until you don't know that you no longer need the data. Then securely erase it and bring it to a recycling center. Do the same if the restore operation fails with "disk errors."
