The menus are unusable, even to turn off hardware acceleration to fix menus

I'm using Firefox under awesome on Ubuntu 13.04 on a MacBook Pro of the retina. Unfortunately, the menus are completely unusable. If I try to open the 'Tools' menu, for example, a small floating window appears which is barely big enough to show and down the scroll buttons, but no other text.

This problem has occurred on and off for many years. The recommended solution is usually to disable hardware acceleration... via a specific menu. Unfortunately, this does not work for me, since I can't navigate the menus. I looked into: config to see if there was an obvious option, but didn't fine anything.

I have a screenshot of what the menus look like, but unfortunately do not know how to fix it.

For unrelated reasons, I reinstalled ubuntu. I could try Firefox again, and the problem disappeared! Time to move from Chrome to Firefox! Unfortunately, I do not know what is specifically modified to correct the problem.

    Hello

Method 1: In order to troubleshoot mouse flickering issue, I would say you run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and check if it solves the problem:

Method 2: update the driver graphics card and the mice and other pointing device and then check if the problem persists or you are able to adjust the hardware acceleration.

A few weeks ago Thunderbird updated itself, and the life of my email went to hell. The continuous black screen. Often he was missing all the icons on e-mail records. I had often to minimize and reopen Thunderbird to see anything. I kill then restarting it maybe 8 times a day when he hooked completely. He crashed himself and sent error reports, perhaps 20 times a day. Absolutely horrible.

Finally, I found this article, which explains how to disable hardware acceleration:

    http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-hardware-acceleration-GPU-rendering-in-Mozilla-Firefox-4-0-to-fix-font-problem/

It worked. Apparently in one of the recent updates, enabled Thunderbird when hardware acceleration for my system, he had to be turned off. (I vaguely remember turning it off before.)

In addition, there are a simple switch off in the Options.

"Tools" > "Options" > "Advanced" > "Général" tab
    or
'Icon menu' > 'Options' > 'Options' > "Advanced" > "Général" tab

    To turn off:
Uncheck the "use hardware acceleration when available.
    Click on 'OK '.

Okay, that's the situation. I have a older laptop with a faulty graphics card. As this machine is used only for the work of the College and the occasional websurfing, such as youtube, it wasn't a problem. Until you released this version of Flash Player.

As with almost anything ask for hardware acceleration, when it begins the whole macine freezes. No BSOD, actually lock up can't do anything until I have remove the gel battery. So I need a way to disable hardware acceleration without going through a flash page.

I must say, I find the fact it runs automatically enabled, without asking the user if it is one) wanted to b) useful on the machine in a matter of great concern. And I wonder how many other users of laptop capable of acceleration no HW are that their laptops do not work all of a sudden... Please can you make this an optional feature in the future versions, as you do with recording files on the hard disk, for example?

If you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ - is she also locked up?  Otherwise, right-click on the Flash object, and then change the settings.

  • Works with Windows XP SP2 with IE8. A Norton 360 process ccSvcHst.exe CPU consumption. Upgraded to version 4.0.__Now IE8 Norton is very unstable, different processes consuming CPU even with turned off Norton. __

I opened a folder support with Norton a couple of days, for a problem with ccSvcHst.exe cripling process my system by consuming my CPU.  I found that it was a common problem, and so I wanted Norton to solve.  Their guy accesed my remote system support and made a few changes to my configuration utility and my registry files and then upgraded my version of their latest version 4.0

After the end of the support session, I finally restarted my system and encountered an error on my configuration utility being in a State of diagnosis, then that I should put it in a normal mode and restart again.  I noticed that it had disabled the start of my services.  I selected a normal startup and restarted.

The problem with ccSvcHst.exe consuming my CPU is now resolved - be replaced by different processes consuming my CPU and use of extremely heavy memory (or misuse).  Faulty processes are mostly explorer.exe and iexplore.exe.  Not only that, but this current problem exists even when I turn off Norton.  I tried you connecting another deal with them, but they will not address the issue, since the problem (now) exist even without Norton running.  So, basically, they made the problem worse and then pushed him on Microsoft to resolve the issue.  It's really nice...

    Anyone have any ideas?

It seems that your computer is infected. I get this from the fact that iexplore.exe (Internet Explorer) is running. If you haven't started IE yourself, then it is a clear symptom of malware infection.
