The registry settings for the program by default PDF for IE

Hello

I have a problem with the default program for a PDF file through the registry for IE11.

With the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\UserChoice

I am able to set the default program for PDF files on the desktop / Windows Explorer - unfortunately this is not an effect on Internet Explorer settings.
In IE11 always the last installed / updated PDF program is set as default to display PDF files.

I would like to be able to set / switch between Adobe Acrobat Reader DC und dem PDFXChange Editor as default program for IE11 through settings in the registry for all the computers in our field.

Operating system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and version the most recent IE and both programs PDF.

Does anyone have an idea?

Additional information:
Wenn, I use the option "open with...". "to set the default PDF program, this isn't the effect of the setting of IE - but when you use the function integrated in both programs PDF to set as default, then it works for IE as well.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Best,
Sascha

I was able to solve it by myself now:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\MIME\Database\Content-MIME/pdf

In detail:
Structure: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key path: Software\Classes\MIME\Database\Content MIME/pdf
Name: CLSID
Valuetyp: REG_SZ
Value for Adobe AR DC: {CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}
Value for PDFXChange Publisher: {53719C00-353D-4FCF-A8AB-1B1027B60A49}

Problem solved by a person post in the Forums of Vista, that what he said in this thread (Thread link: http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/202928-open-choose-default-program-error-vista-2.html#post939031 ):

    "PROBLEM SOLVED!"
    HOO HOO!

I want to thank you once again BRINK for ideas on how to solve this problem.
The next step below, this is how I solved this annoying problem:

First of all, I came across this article on the Microsoft Web site by changing my google search to solve the problem. I started the google search with the following:

'open with' lack of context menu

Who brought results with the first being a microsoft link:

Command 'Open with' missing from the context Menu

Now the article didn't tell me exactly how to solve this problem, but it gave me an idea.
He said look at the following reg key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell\openas\command

And he said to watch the following default value:

    C:\%windir%\rundll32.exe shell32.dll, OpenAs_RunDLL %1

After that, I noticed that the value was different, but then I noticed in watching the article says that this applies to Windows 95 and 98.
I then looked at the same key on my laptop that is running Vista Ultimate 32 bit also and I noticed there are subfolders on my laptop that my office did not have.
It should look like the following:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown
    \DefaultIcon
    \+Shell
    \+openas
    \COMMAND
    \+opendlg
    \COMMAND

My office was only the DefaultIcon folder.
Well I just copied the key from my laptop and voila... it worked.
I thank the gods of the computer. This has really been bugging me. I know that some people would have just reconfigured or installed a new but I knew it was an easy fix. I thought it was a reg key or windows dll file, but I just need to find the location where he resided in. Luckily I came across this article which pointed me in the right direction. Now I feel like I accomplished something.

Sorry if this is a bit long but I HATE it when I'm looking for answers in the forums and I see someone say they have solved their problem, but they either don't say anything about how they fixed or that they are so vague that they could didn't say anything.
I hope this helps others if they have this problem.

Thank you once again on BOARD! "

    That's all!

I, stupid, changed the program by default to a BAT file to the cmd prompt, well, now I can't run the batch files now, please help!

    Hi William,.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Batch file is a type of script file, a text file, containing a series of commands to be executed by the command prompt. When you run a batch file, it opens the command prompt to run the scripts.

It would be great if you can answer the following questions:

    1. what happens when you try to run a batch file?

2 are. what batch file you referring?

    3. the problem occurs for a particular batch file?

First of all, I suggest you to check the commands written in a batch file. To do the same thing, just right-click on the batch file, and then click change. It will open Notepad with the list of orders scripted for this particular batch file.

If you have additional questions on the computer, please ask your question about Windows and we will be happy to help you.

  • Set the path for the registry settings for the installer

    Hello!

I want that my Installer to add some registry keys in the Windows registry.  The value of these registry keys is dependent on what the user selects as their installation for my software installation path.  Does anyone know if there is a variable which represents the installation path as installation of %path% or something?

    I'm using LabVIEW 2009 SP1.

Let me know if you need more information!

I guess if it isn't a solution, I can add code to my program to create these registry keys once the installed program.

    Thank you!

    -Nic

I solved this solution by running a small "setup wizard" application (written in BT) that gets run when the Setup program finishes. To configure this, be sure to include your Assistant app built with the Installer Setup and then there is a setting in the advanced options of the installer to specify an application to run when the Setup program finishes. You can also pass parameters from command line for the program, and particularly to the destination installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\...) and [DISTROOT] for the folder that contains setup.exe (for example D:\) [INSTALLDIR].

I couldn't see any reference to these guys using registry options, but if they work as well because, it's certainly worth knowing

(although for the soft, I speak to you, the installation wizard has done much more in addition to writing registry values, including audit/install 3rd party drivers and .NET)

  • Can not choose the program as default

I'm defining gvim.exe as the default program for a certain number of types of files, XML mainly, but some others.  So I right click on an XML file and selectOpen with-> choose default program  The Open with dialog box appears.  I click on theBrowse... button.  I to gvim.exe and click Open.  It then goes back to the Open with dialog box, but gvim.exe does not appear in the list of recommended programs or other.

I tried to install gvim in C:\Program Files (I've normally keep it in C:\Vim).  I tried to run Explorer as an administrator.  I tried to do it through Control Panel.  I can't get it works and it's driving me crazy.  Any ideas on why this is happening?

    It's on Windows 7 64 bit.

    Hello

    Try this.

Control Panel, programs by default, choose the type of file associated with...

After a few seconds, the window get full default associations.

Search and high - lite the .xml extension.

Click on edit (top-right) and edit it by pointing or by searching for the gvim.exe

    Hello.

I have a Windows 2008 Server x 64 I installed Adobe Pro X and Adobe Reader X on. I installed Pro first, then the reader, both with MST files, so that the reader is the default PDF reader. Drive indicates that the default program and if you double-click a PDF document, Reader opens indeed. However, if a hyperlink in Word or some other points of the document to a PDF, Adobe Pro file opens instead. I need to drive the default application for all references to the PDF files, but I have to keep Pro and Reader installed on the server at the same time.

Hello StevePrice, software running registry cleaner is not recommended by Microsoft as this could cause damage to the records on your computer.

    ·          Since when are you facing these issues?

    ·          Did you of recent changes made to your computer outside the CCleaner?

You should try running default security settings:
