Thunderbolt WiFi vs Ethernet

Hello

I have a question about the Ethernet Thunderbolt vs Wifi connection. I have a stable Wifi connection. When I connect the Ethernet Thunderbolt now, then the network connection should go automatic on the Ethernet connection without disconnecting Wifi. Is this possible?

Is this the right menu? Because it is not logical if Wifi is on top or the Thunderbolt Ethernet? Is there another menu for this function?

Is this menu only when I start the computer?

Thank you for your answers

This list shows only the default order for a network connection. If both the operation and available, then it should use the computer Ethernet or Wi - Fi. But you do not specify if you have even a Thunderbolt Ethernet configuration that works. Your computer has an Ethernet port, so there is no reason to use this. But it seems that you do not have a normal Ethernet configuration.

It seems strange that I can have both at the same time.

I read your post on how your desktop computer is not able to connect to your wired or wireless network, and I'd be happy to help you in this case!

To re - establish a coherent link between your computer and the network, I recommend later in this document on troubleshooting wireless network and Internet (Windows 8), as well as Troubleshooting Wired Home networks (Windows 8). This should help to run a diagnostic on your system using the network and Internet troubleshooting, as well as measures to maintain your system over the wireless network.

In addition, I suggest also follows the steps below to ensure that your power management settings do not interfere with

    the connection to the network:

    1. open DEVICE MANAGER
    2. open the NETWORK CARDS
    3. right click on the WiFi adapter for the pc and left click on PROPERTIES
    4. click on POWER up.
    5. remove the check mark beside : ALLOW the COMPUTER TO TURN THIS DEVICE SAVE START STOP
    6. click on OK
    7. close DEVICE MANAGER and test.

  • Two internet connection on the same PC (WiFi and ethernet)

I have windows 8.  I have two internet connections. A cable (wired) and another in the microwave (wifi).  Normally isn't a problem because desktop computers are on the cable connections and the TV, laptops and other toys are on wifi.

But sometimes I want to use two connections on a PC, like download a large file and stream and watch the Broncos game at the same time. I want to use Ethernet as a main and did use WiFi when Ethernet is too busy. I can't understand how to do this.  Anyone know?

    Hi Gerard,.

You can activate the Wifi and cable connected at the same time, but you can use the Internet from one of them. The computer will prefer the cable if the cable is connected.

If both are capable of providing Internet access, computer will prefer the wired (Ethernet) network to access the Internet (and not use the Wifi network to access the Internet).

The advantage of using two connections is to get Internet access without interruption when a connection does not work.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have other problems with Windows in the future.

  • ATV 4 see wifi or ethernet but not real internet

I have an Apple TV that connect via wifi for the networks listed below, and it will also connect directly via ethernet cable to the back of the Airport Extreme, which lies next to him.

But the camera can not see the internet or access anything that it is about that.

In the settings it reads still see the wifi network and have a good signal (or that it is connected by ethernet cable), but address IP, subnet mask, router, and DNS LU "N/A" rather than having appropriate addresses and phone numbers

Turning everything works once again, it will work temporarily, but then after a while (I think that once he woke up from his sleep), the internet has gone again.

Any ideas what may be going on here?

    DETAILS:

    Model: A1625 (32GB)

    Serial number:

    Network (BTHub6):

ISP: BT Internet (unlimited Infinity 2)

    Modem/router: BT Smart Hub

Additional network (let's call it' method'):

Connected to the main router BT are two airports of Apple. That have identical parameters and therefore operate as a network

    1. airport Extreme

    7.7.7 software

    Mode: Bridge Mode

    Network: Create a wireless network

    Security: WPA2 Personal

    Connect: DHCP

    Automatically configure IPv6 (mode: native)

2.4 GHz and 5 GHz two automatic

    2 Time Capsule

    Software 7.6.7

    Airport Extreme-same settings

This network usually gets 10-30Mbps on the device according to the time of day and use etc (using the Ookla app/website speed Test)

Note: all other devices work fine including:

    2 x MacBook Air

    2 x PC (Dell)

    1 x MacBook

    2 x iPhone 6

    1 x iPhone 6 c

    1 x iPhone 5 c

    1 x HP printer

    I tried many things

I tried to plug the ethernet cable directly into the hub of BT as well as Airport Extreme

I tried to remove one of the airports in the network

I tried to separate the network 2.4 GHz from the 5 GHz network and tried mountain BIKING on both

Any ideas what may be going on here?

I had a very similar problem, immediately after the upgrade.

I think that I have solved it by changing the settings of terminal BT. In the my network - IPv4 configuration settings, I disabled DHCP that is authoritative and registered. Connection Ethernet TV Apple immediately corrected himself and formed a stable connection.  I turned authoritative DHCP on, and the connection still stands.

  • Why is the internet on my Apple TV 4 speed faster on wifi and ethernet?

    Hello

I have an Apple TV 4. I tested my internet speed using unit SpeedTest app. When I connect Apple TV to my router with an ethernet cable (5th), my download speed is 45 Mbps. When I unplug the ethernet cable and use the wifi, the download speed is 89 Mbps. Can someone explain why this could be? It should be the other way around.

    Thank you
    Ryan

    Hello

I think that this may be due the port ethernet ATV 4 being only 10 / 100 Mbit/s. Your WiFi network is probably give at speed higher than 100 Mbit/s, allowing a faster data rate.

  • 2nd airport Extreme replaces an older AP, it is connected via wifi or ethernet?

Sorry for what is lame, I read on the news from Apple, but I'm a bit confused with the concept of the expansion of the range with a bridge instead of an access point.

The original installation was an extreme Apple with a TrendNet AP. The Trendnet used a different SSID, the new bridge to the AESB uses the same SSID as the router/AESB. I used the Airport utility, and I think that it only gave me an option to extend the reach of the original AEBS. The new bridge to the AESB is connected to Ethernet.

I'm confused that if the new AESB uses the same SSID as the AESB/router, it means that it does not use the ethernet connection. How can I know if the second AESB is using the Ethernet connection or extend the reach of the Wifi? Or actually I mess up and need to re-setup the AESB?

A bridge is actually one access point, but uses the same SSID? all the other differences?

    Thanks in advance!

Let's back off on the terminology for a bit, since terms such as 'spread', 'bridge' and 'access point' can mean different things to different people.

You have an AirPort Extreme at the moment which produces a signal of wireless network, correct?

You want to add another AirPort Extreme to your AirPort Extreme network, correct?

You want the new AirPort Extreme to connect to the existing AirPort Extreme using wired, Ethernet wired, permanent, correct?

You want the new AirPort Extreme using the same wireless network name and password as your existing AirPort Extreme, correct?

  • No Internet with MacBook Pro Via WiFi or Ethernet

My MBP has ceased to connect to internet via WiFi approx. 2 weeks ago. No settings have been changed to our MBP or router. Ethernet connected directly to the router/modem does not work as well. "Wi - Fi was free assigned ip address", on network settings. Also, I can not connect to Wi - Fi to parents/friends/starbucks as well. I searched the forums but have not found a solution. Thanks for your time.

Please start in recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select get online help. It will launch a clean copy of Safari. Some plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in recovery, you do not have access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so take note of those who before, if they are required for the test.

Test. After testing, restart as usual and display the results.

  • T450s WIFI and Ethernet questions

    Hello

I have a Lenovo T450s nine and there already two problems:

    (1) it does not recognize not the ethernet connection (WiFi connects very well). The Ethernet connection works perfectly on all other laptops in my house

    (2) when I dissconnect from Wifi, internet options freeze completely and I am unable to reconnect or change networks without having to restart my laptop.

Does anyone know the son or solutions to solve my problems?

    Thank you very much!

Nevermind, I've sorted the issue. I had to activate enthernet in advanced options. This also solves the problem of WiFi.

  • Setting up wifi with ethernet (wifi used to work properly)

    Hello

I use the WRT54G2 with my modem cable (from Optimum Online) for a long time, like a wifi router. Several devices (laptops, ipads, iphones, etc.) bound to it, WPA2 security, everything is good.

Now I need to have a laptop connected via an ethernet connection - to make things a bit more complicated, the ethernet cable is actually passed through a phone, Polycom IP from the router on my laptop. It works fine, I have internet on the phone and the laptop. However, my wifi disappears now other devices.

I assume that the ethernet is supported when the cable is connected, so when I disconnect wifi back upward.

How can I implement both work at the same time in different devices?

    Any help is appreciated

Don't know if I can delete the post, but now I just solved my problem. Changed channel 6 to 11 and all wifi works.

  • Why can't connect me to wifi without ethernet cable

I can't connect to my wifi, unless my ethernet is pluged in... I'm using VGN-NS135E n OS is Windows 7

It's a little hard to follow, but I'm guessing that you mean that you get only Internet when wired with an Ethernet cable from your router to your laptop and wireless WiFi doesn't at all?  Or do you mean that you get a wireless connection only when an Ethernet cable not connected what whatsoever, is plugged into the Ethernet port on your laptop?

  • Windows 8 pro build 9200 need wifi but Ethernet is all I get

So I have this new system called windows pro operating build 9200 I installed and it comes with a default value of ethernet but all I have is wifi I have try ed to go into the wifi settings and put in work but nothing seemed to activate it please help

    Hello

You don't say if this is a desktop computer or a laptop.

If a desktop computer, it doesn't have wireless capabilities unless you install a PCI Wireless card or a wireless USB Dongle.

    When a laptop;

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your laptop > Driver and Software Support Section > search your laptop model number > then your operating system > locate the good drivers of Windows 8.1 > download and install.

    See you soon.

  • Impossible to set up a wifi or ethernet connection after clean install XP

Hi, I recently did a fresh install of XP on a laptop Toshiba Equim M50 - 164 PSM57E of friends by following the instructions in this link.

    http://www.easydesksoftware.com/i386.htm

I now have extreme difficulties set up the internet connection wifi, no wireless icon made its appearance in the bottom right of the screen. I tried to download Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter 7.7.0.406.2 on an external drive, then transferring it to the Toshiba laptop, but it still does not work.

It seems that pilots are not install correctly and may not appear in the Device Manager, nor can I connect to the internet via a usb cable.

Please help because my friend is very angry and I am now at a loss what to do.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

The question is: have you installed all necessary drivers, tools and utilities?
Have you finalised the installation of OS and all hardware components?
Wireless network adapter installed and correctly listed in the Device Manager?

  • Lenovo G510 problem wifi and ethernet

    Hello!

I have two Lenovo laptops, G50 and G510. The first works perfectly except the second after 10 months started yesterday which have problems with the network adapter.

The Wi - fi button is grayed out and cannot be opened and the ethernet port can not read any cable. I tried all the solutions I found on the web (deactivation and activation devices, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, updating the system and the system format) but failed. The ethernet adapter does not appear in network devices after the restoration of the system to its point original (format), even after installing the drivers for the network card I found in Lenovo support site. And all this happened yesterday when the only change in the system was a windows update. However if this was the problem of the restoration of the system, update and format should have fixed the issue.

I used windows 8.1 but now after the format I use 64-bit windows 8. Could you give advice? Could this be a hardware problem? I'm desperate here.

Really weird that both had fault at the same time. Try the following out the battery and the power source and press the power button without any power supply 5 times. And restart again.

If not try to work the boot in safe mode with network and see what is happening here. In the login screen hold down SHIFT key and choose reboot option. you will see Win8 advanced options.
