Tile desktop in Windows 8 start screen

Tile Office in my Windows 8 start screen is empty and the background is black.  Any ideas how I can get to display the content?

What happens if you choose a background wallpaper by double-clicking the blank desktop (not the tile, the current Office) and then choosing Customize?

  • Netbook Windows 7 Starter screen resolution

    Hi all

I use an Acer AOD255 netbook with the following specifications:

1 GB of RAM with 1.75 GB ReadyBoost

    Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz Dual-core

Graphics Mobile Intel (integrated graphics CPU)

    Windows 7 Starter 32-bit

    resolution 1024 x 600

I hung it on a Samsung monitor running at a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and I was wondering if a resolution on this material will slow down Windows at all.

Basically, a 1920 x 1080 resolution will slow this netbook?

    Thank you

The netbook will run at the same speed there always - but try to play videos in this resolution can lead be hashed because of physical limitations.  Otherwise, for use other than video and type (games, etc.), you should notice very little difference.

  • None of the "tiles" in my Windows 8 start menu work, they maximize a fashion icon full screen or just stop back on the desktop

    Helllo all,.

Last night I upgraded to Windows 7 to Windows 8, everything seams to be fine work (faster, more fluid, etc.), but none of the tiles work in the start menu of Windows Store, that is to say, weather, maps, etc. When I click on "all apps" it will load installed programs however.

    My account is an administrator, I have switched between what it is a "local" and linked to my account 'live' account and neither worked, here are the specs of the system;

    Sony VAIO laptop computer S

    Intel i5 processor

    6 GB OF RAM

Drive HARD 512 (not an SSD)

    1080 p 15.5 "screen (1080 res @ 60 Hz)

NVIDIA 640 M GPU (2 GB RAM) - it's currently "always you" rather than move to the Intel HD 4000 (I tried two cards, or worked).

    Thanks for the help.

    Kind regards

I was able to diagnose the problem with agent suspicious actions of Avast turning just stuff the individual parameters, one by one.  After I found the root of my problem was Avast I checked to see if there was an upgrade.  There was.

I updated Avast and the problem behavior shield now seems fixed.  In other words, I don't have to turn off the setting that I listed above for the tiles to work.  So I recommend to people is to update Avast and see if it solves your problem.  If this isn't the case, then turn off the settings that I mentioned, or disable Avast altogether.

I sincerely hope one person MS is reading this thread and can transmit this information to their support people.  Avast is one of the most downloaded programs to Vista & 7; There is sure to be thousands of people with the same problem.

Great, you're saving just a lot of time and grief... Avast was my problem too.

    Thank you!

I start my computer and when I connect to the computer, my startup screen as usual, but no tiles are appearing. To get to my office, I have to search for a file. and I tried to do a right click to get my apps to pop up, but none of the applications will jump to the top or the other... What's wrong?

  • I can't get access to Windows 8 start screen

    Hello.

My laptop is running Windows Pro 8, its been great so far, I can't start to work.

Icon start at the bottom left that opens looks strange (two large boxes instead of a smaller load) and does nothing, nor do the windows key.

It happened after an automatic update.

Can use system restore to a date before it happens.

On the login screen, look down to the right and click on the power icon, then hold down the SHIFT key and click on restart.    This will put you into the repair environment.      You can try the auto repair here but you will probably need to use system restore.

  • Desktop and Windows white out screen and apps / remove all.

When I log on my computer, everything works fine, but after a while of doing normal things such as the use of the internet and the work, the first thing that happens often is google chrome always stops and then when I use the touch screen and I cannot click on anything whether to open. I can't get on the home screen by pressing the keyboard windows key. Once on them, the settings I've done for the display disappears and so do the apps. So soon after she removes the message appears saying "C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it can't be located, the information may have been moved to a different location... " Everything on my desktop disappears, and then make the icons on the taskbar at the bottom. When I reconnect and or restart it, it works perfectly so is again there. How can I solve this problem?

  • How can I change the name on the screen of Windows 8 start?

Just set up the new computer with Windows 8. Spent a ridiculous amount of time to change the name of the profile at the top right of the home screen...

Have tried many scenarios found via this forum, google search, etc... all to nothing does not.

Specifically, I've connected on my MSFT account and change to my desired name 'show' and it shows there as intended, as it does when I connect on 8 of Windows mail, Outlook etc... But not on the Windows 8 start screen.

Advice/suggestions would be appreciated at this point...

    Thank you

    Steve

This start screen name must come to the right of your MS Account.

You can try this, but I'm not positive if it relates in reality.  Use Win + R to display the run, type netplwiz and click OK.  In the list, select your account, then on properties and specify in the 'Full name' box, then restart.

  • Windows 8 black screen after Login or the wake from sleep / hibernate and flickering screen

    Hello

I have something of a nightmare with my desktop computer running Windows 8 x 64.

I did a bit of cleaning, unplug all cables, etc. and then reconnected everything later.

Since then, I've known the following questions: -.

After starting and going through the connection, I am faced with a black screen.  The monitor turns on, but there is no pointer.  However, if I clicked at random, it would open a Windows App out of the splash screen, which would then become visible.  If I moved the mouse to the bottom left, to get the splash screen, he would immediately go black screen on me.  He seemed to be refusing to display the splash screen.

With "display" black screen, I found I could get the Task Manager (Ctrl, Alt, Del) upward and there could access the desktop.  It would then execute as usual, but if I let it go into hibernation or even just having the power of the screen down, it would be black screen again, and I have to use the 'trick' Task Manager to retrieve the desktop computer.

Sometimes, using the Manager tasks does not always, because he'll sweep between the black screen and the desktop, alternating every 5-6 seconds.  I found through the process from the Task Manager, it stops doing this.

Now, I did a Windows 8 regenerate, without any change in the problems.  I made sure the AMD drivers have been completely updated (they were) and also physically checked all cables and cables are properly connected and the GPU / RAM etc are properly placed.

There is no error message displayed at any time. I have also disabled Fast Boot, nothing helps.

I examined a faulty monitor, but it worked fine for an hour or two at a time, until I got let go sleep or put into hibernation, and I'm at square one.  It would of course be a faulty GPU, or even a PSU failure, but I'm not convinced the symptoms are pointing to them.

For me, the fact it does not display the Windows 8 start screen after that Login or Wake Up is important.  It makes me think that Windows may interfere with the display in some way?

I can, if necessary, provide DXDIAG etc, and I "m hoping someone will have an idea of what goes wrong.  I have spent ages going through Google and others, but cannot find a solution to my problem.

Thanks for any help or suggestion you may have.

    Conrad.

It solved!  Traded my monitor cable and all problems solved.  Guess he had a break or something in one of the lines.

    Thanks anyway.
