Time Capsule backups of different networks?

I have a Time Capsule that serves ONLY to expand my current network, but is also used for the backup of a single computer through Time Machine. If I take this time capsule to a new place, which has a different network I can configure it to join the new network and continue the backups Time Machine to a computer (which moves with it) without losing any old backups? If so, how can I say to join the network at the new place.

Thank you

Roger

The time Capsule cannot 'join' a wireless provided third-party router, if that's what you're asking.

I want to configure my Time Capsule 3 to extend the network

The time Capsule cannot "extend" the network Uverse using a wireless connection, if that's maybe what you're trying to do. The time Capsule can only wireless "extend" the signal of another router from Apple.

The Capsule can be configured to extend the network to Uverse if it is connected permanently... anytime... to the Uverse router using a connection through wired Ethernet cable.

Just installed a new Capsule of time at home. The time Capsule is a wireless router, and I can connect all my devices wirelessly to the Network Time capsule wireless. • Time Capsule backup disabled on Bridge mode

    Hi all...

I have a 3rd generation (A1355) Time Capsule and I connected on a D-Link DSL-2520U router which is connected to my DSL via PPPoE internet connection. In order to get my setup working, I had to put the network on the bridge mode settings. Since my backup Time Capsule does not work, and when I try to manually force the backup system, it is said: "the backup drive is not found. Make sure that the backup disk is connected, or select a different backup disk. »

When I try to put the time Capsule to DHCP, it is said: "the DHCP range you have entered conflicts with your base station WAN IP address."

Now, what can I do to get it working again?

Bridge mode is the correct setting of the time Capsule, but you changed the 'path' that has been using Time Machine to locate your Time Capsule on the network, so that it can not find the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences

    Open Time Machine

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup disks, click to select the current backup drive

Click on remove the disc at the bottom right of the window

    Close the windows

    Restart the Mac.

Then, go to time Machine again as above, click select disk and select the backup drive that you want to use, and then click on using the drive.

Wait a few minutes for a backup start, or if you do not want to wait... click on the "clock" icon Time machine at the top of the screen of the Mac, and then click Backup now.

  • Time Capsule backup suddenly stopped working

I used my Air Port Time Capsule since July last year, without a hitch. Then all of a sudden today, he says: 'no back ups for 155 days' (!) and I get this message:

"The backup drive is not available. Make sure that the backup disk is connected, or select a different backup disk. »

It is connected. I can see it in the AirPort Utility. I see it in the Finder. I access it via the finder. I am at a total loss!

    (1) what on Earth is my all backups since July 2015?

    (2) how to operate again?

    (3) a way to ensure this NEVER happens again?

    Help, please!

It is connected. I can see it in the AirPort Utility. I see it in the Finder. I access it via the finder. I am at a total loss!

It's a little unusual to see full access to the rest of the computer and the inability to access by Time Machine.

    (1) what on Earth is my all backups since July 2015?

    They never happened.

During your updates... things are lost and error messages are never toward the front of the screen even if I suspect that the log is full of them.

    (2) how to operate again?

Reset complete TC... and I recommend you wipe it and start the new backup. See the section below... my standard how to correct the answer to the problem.

    (3) a way to ensure this NEVER happens again?

Only a stupid person would make a promise, that it will NEVER happen.

Thinking more broadly... I say to the people in these columns now ad nauseum... Use an alternative solution. Carbon Copy clone or Chronosync are good examples.

They can be used alongside TM... but tend to be more reliable.

He is also much better working on a local disk instead of a network... Although with a MBPr having to plug a USB stick in the car all the time would be a brake.

Try to CCC. It's free for a month... If you find that it works for you purchase the license.

Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the drive hard in doing so.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    The installer the TC.

And then redo the configuration of the computer with the Mavericks - Yosemite - ElCapo. (MYELCAP)

    1. the use of very short names... NO APPLE RECOMMENDED names. Without the space and pure alphanumeric characters.

for example TCgen5 for the base station and the name of the TCwifi wireless.

If the problem is using wireless TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as it also seems to help stop the nonsense. But it can be tried in the second round. IE, plan on a first and second series of changes to fix this... If all goes well... I note other steps can you tour2.

    2. use all passwords also consistent with 1. but maybe a little longer. IE 8 and 20 characters of mixed cases and numbers... no alphanumeric non-caracteres.

    3. If the TC is router, you can ignore this point. It is only a problem when the TC is bridged.

If ensure that the TC is always the same IP address... you will need to do this on the main router using a dhcp reservation... or a bit more complex setup by using the static IP address in the TC. But it's important for deriving from intellectual property in all directions when MYELCAP do not remember his name for 5 min after a reboot done for poor network management.

    4. check that your share on the computer name does not change... Make sure that it is also in line with the above... short without space and pure alphanumeric... but this change will mess up your TM backup... so be prepared to make a new, full backup. Sorry... keep this one for the second round, if you want to avoid a new backup.

5 attach the TC disc into the computer manually. (In your case, it seems not to be a problem... and I need to solve this problem, as El Capo behaves different).

In Finder, go, connect to the server in the main menu,

Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever ip of TC is that you made static. It's a default router 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with it unless you know what you're doing).

You can use the name... SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your name of TC... local is the default domain of the TC and does not change.

However the names are not so easy as... the IP address nor reliable. They are not at least not in Yosemite. The field can also be a problem if you are not clogged or wireless directly to the Treasury Board.

    6. ensure that IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open network, wireless and Advanced preferences / TCP/IP... and the difficulty of IPv6. link-local only. Do the same for the ethernet if you use it.

This one is important. The auto setting uses apple straightens always not good values.

For computers updated once or twice since the major point of revisions... I think that a clean installation becomes almost a necessity.

It is a lot more jiggery pokery, you can try, but the above is a good start... If you still find not reliable... don't be surprised.

You may need to do more work on the computer itself. for example, to reset the NVRAM/PRAM/SMC... helped some people. In the end... A clean installation of the operating system is also useful if you update installed.

  • Time Capsule visitor files a network (associated with possible network connectivity)

I have one Capsule of 3 TB I bought in early 2015.  I had a very frustrating problem from the beginning with her down my network, apparently at random.  I tried a lot of different things, and nothing worked, so I post to see if anyone else can help.

The TC is plugged directly into my UVerse router/gateway via ethernet and I put the TC to have a static IP address.  The Uverse router firewall has a rule for the TC and TC shows how a router cascade in the rou UVerse.  I have wireless 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz when put in place on the TC.  I have a Mac Mini connected directly to it via ethernet, but it's a recent thing (maybe I was hoping that it would help).  I have also a PC attached to it for internet access only windows.  I have two Macs backup via Time Machine, well I tried to disable backups on one to see if that has had an effect (it didn't).  In fact, I have a whole list of notes on things I tried in the last two months, since I started to really tackle this problem seriously.  In particular, I've tried steps 1 to 5 in this link: Time Capsule constantly default to be recognized by Airport utility if I have not tried a factory reset.  I'm running the latest versions of OS X and iOS.

The basic model is that I have the TC set up and work.  The wireless works fine.  Time Machine will back to it fine.  I can see the TC in the Finder.  I can open the AirPort on a Mac and iOS utility and it is 'green '.  All right.  Then, at a random time in the next few days (the longest one since I started to take notes is 7 days), the TC will drop from the network.  The without wire will be there and still works fine, but Time Machine will not be able to find it for backups, it will not be displayed in the Finder.  AirPort (iOS or Mac) utility shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and says that the device is no longer part of my network.  I have to unplug the TC and plug it back again so that he can return to the top.  As soon as I did that, everything will return to normal and be fine for a few days, and then he disappeared again.

Tonight, however, I connected to another event.  I was watching something on my AppleTV when he started the buffering.  I grabbed my iPhone to see if my internet has declined.  More or less on a whim, I checked the airport utility and noticed that the TC showed a green dot but 'Internet' showed an orange dot.  A minute or two later, the AppleTV started playing video again, so I checked again airport utility and this 'Internet' time, has a green dot and the TC showed the usual brand yellow triangle / exclamation indicating it was abandoned.  I noted the time and then went back to look at what I had looked at.  About two hours later, I went to the power of the TC cycle and understand what to try next.

The AppleTV is not connected to the CT.  It connects to the UVerse bridge (it is connected to the ethernet on the back of one of the set-top boxes UVerse).  This means that the loss of the internet was for everything in the House, not only the TC.  Something about the process seems to have caused the TC to drop from the network somehow, but everything remains recovered him very well.  Looking the UVerse bridge, it seems rebooting once since then (about an hour and a half after the TC dropped) but not by anyone in the House (I don't know if perhaps AT & T pushed something in the modem or if it is defective).

So, no idea why loss of connectivity would cause the TC had to give up in the network?  Of course, it also appears, I may have a problem with the gateway Uverse, but if the TC goes down when everything is ok, it suggests a problem here as well.

Since you seem to have picked up some things from my post...

We will continue the process... This is where life becomes difficult. It is not uncommon to what you feel.

Just to get the full picture.

The TC is plugged directly into my UVerse router/gateway via ethernet and I put the TC to have a static IP address.

I would prefer you to the TC using the bridge... using standard DHCP... (you can leave the Uverse for him apply a DHCP reservation).

Once you do that... move the cable that connects the TC to the WAN Uverse on TC to the LAN port... It is fine in bridge...

If it always falls I have a more serious way to do. It is much more complicated, however, because apple has removed all controls on sensitive router. But I think you will find that the WAN port is dubious on the TC. It can appear at different times and with different modems/routers...

Alternatively, you can take the TC to Apple and have them replaced... It took me three goes to get a decent one. And I'm not even sure that the fault will not be displayed again in the near future out of warranty.

But it could appear perfectly when Apple test it... and the replacement can be just as bad... in other words it is a deeper problem that Apple realize.

    Another thing tricky, I discovered.

Airport routers stick to the local domain... even packed... they do not Pick-up area of the main router.

This means that some devices will lose the connection because they are on the wrong field. It is possible to change the field on the Uverse make local as well... Since apple has not all the controls of the airport. I did some time ago on my main router and I can hardly give you direct evidence that helps... as many adjustments it is one of the many small things that are in addition to the lack of reliability that can help if you get the other 20 on the right. I think it helped...!

From there on, we need to work a little more on maybe the ethernet connection... or the LAN port 100 Mbps gigabit Uverse? I think I'd rather see you adjust the speed of 100Mbps as long as your internet speed is less than that of course for gigabit.

Give me some screenshots of the configuration... It is also useful.

  • Time Capsule backup not available without reboot disk

I have the latest generation of time capsule, but my MBP cannot find the disc inside after restarting the device.  After a restart of the time Capsule the requested backup will take place without any problems, but if I ask another backup later, I again get an alert saying that the disk is not found, requiring another restart. This "solves" the problem, as the MBP can now find the disk and the backup takes place, but the whole point of Time Machine is supposed to be to provide Automatic backgroundbackups.  Any ideas?

    The problem is well known.

Seen here all the time. Solutions are not so easy.

We need to know the configuration of the entire network.

This modem you have, make and model please?

How is the TC connected and in what mode?

Is the Mac directly connected to the CT or via the modem that works as gateway?

  • Time capsule backup dedicated

I'll put up a new Mac Pro and want to use Time Capsule as a wired dedicated backup device.  On my Mac, I have a 1 TB internal drive will be used only for the application and software work areas.  I have a 4 TB external drive, where all my user files reside.  I want to hardwire connect Time Capsule to my Mac and use it only to back up the drive internal.  I have a separate drive of 8 TB I'll use a program like ChronoSync to back up my drive of the 4 TB user.  I use one of the Ethernet ports on my Mac to connect to my home network.  I have an Ethernet port open on my Mac.  Can I use the Ethernet Mac port available and connect Time Capsule for the Mac as a dedicated backup device?

The Capsule connects to your modem or modem router using a wired Ethernet cable connection. Connect the modem into the "O" on the Time Capsule WAN port and configure time Capsule to create a wireless network.

If you don't need wireless, it can be turned off once the time Capsule has been implemented to work with your modem or router/modem.

Your Mac can then go back to Ethernet connection time Capsule cable from the Mac to one of the three ports LAN <>- on the back of the time Capsule.  Don't forget to turn off the radio on the Mac to make sure that the backup will take place via the Ethernet connection.

  • Time Capsule backups fail 'lack of space'

I have two 3 TB time Capsules airport here at home network with an iMac and MacBook Pro 2.  All computers are up-to-date with the latest version of the software for Mac OS x (10.11.5) and the two time Capsules have been updated with the latest firmware yesterday (May 30, 2016).  I get the same error message that does not respect the backup, or for both, readers of time capsule due to lack of space.

How is that possible?  I thought that TC permanently erased the last backup to make room for the next backup... aren't these differential backups?  Are a number of safeguards supposed to be kept?  Or over a certain period of time?

Is the solution here to add a few more disk space for the time capsule airport with USB drives?

    Thanks for your help.

    John

Time Machine usually works very well to delete backups of older (and small) "extra" type on the Time Capsule, but if the disk is full, and all of a sudden you add lots of new data to your Mac as an update of the operating system, or enlarge them or video files... which adds a lot of new data to your computer... and then the Time Machine can not delete older files to make room the new, much larger that new normal backup which would be necessary.

When this happens, you have 3 Basic, in order of most expensive options on the bottom:

    • Add another new Time Capsule and start backups to go
    • Add a USB to a Time Capsule and start to go back up
    • Clear the Time Capsule disk and start over again with the backups with the drawback that you will lose your history backups

In fact, there is a fourth option... that I do not recommend... and it is to go back into your files to backup using the Finder and delete older backups manually.  The drawback here is that it is a long and tedious process, and there is a very real danger that the entire file backup for Mac may be corrupt, make the file useless.

  • Airport Extreme will not read Time Capsule trying to create network roaming

I have read all the forums on that alone and became frustrated. I am creating a roaming network for a time at an airport extreme capsule. I followed the directions of countless times without success. Time Capsule is set to DHCP and Nat, while the extreme is in Bridge Mode and has the exact same name and password network settings. Now, I have to say that the ethernet cable connecting is extremely long (well over 100 meters) and I know that the connection will degrade, some, but my lap top is able to capture the signal when I connect it directly to the cable coming from the time Capsule, so I know that the cable works. In fact, this is how I am writing this post right now! My problem is that the Airport extreme will not even read the time capsule at all. Can someone help me please? A friend told me that I might have to configure the router second to accept the connection at a slower pace? I don't know what that means. Sorry to be a pain.

has the exact same name and password network settings.

Just to double check that you mean the password and the name of wireless... not the base station name and password the names of base station must be different.

Now, I have to say that the ethernet cable connecting is extremely long (well over 100 meters) and I know that the connection will degrade, some, but my lap top is able to capture the signal when I connect it directly to the cable coming from the time Capsule, so I know that the cable works.

To the limit sometimes the gradient exceeds just slower... it does not connect.

If you check the laptop goes to the Advanced preferences network ethernet to the last tab has the speed dropped to 10Mbit? The extreme is not able to go as low automatically... and unfortunately there is no controls for the later models.

    What model is your extreme?

If it's a Gen5 or an earlier version... you can use older airport utility to set the speed of the wan port. This feature is removed from models later, of course... and the AU later so does she. If you can go try it using full duplex 10mbit. If that works try 100mbit full duplex, but you might find it's too fast.

A friend told me that I might have to configure the router second to accept the connection at a slower pace?

Your friend has a good idea.

I would have cut the cable in the middle... and put an end to both ends. Then place a switch on the line (not a router). A switch is a bit like an amplifier. It is to retransmit the signal so it can go another 100M...

The other issue is on pairs... If you have installed this cable yourself and terminated yourself you were affecting the pairs?

Ethernet is delicate to the wire because of its origins as the wiring phone... where the Center pair is for the phone.

MacBook won't connect to the Internet via long cable?

Here is a very similar problem to yours... was bad ethernet endpoints. Break the pairs at your own risk.
