Time Capsule no longer works

After a software upgrade of time capsule (proposed automatically on the Airport utility), it doesn't work anymore. The led remains off. I turned he walks several times, pushed the button to boot as well, but it has not changed anything. The model is the 4th generation (A1409). Could you please help?

Thank you

Pull the power cord to the back of the time Capsule

Wait a few hours

Reconnect the power cord to the back of the time Capsule

If the time Capsule still fuel not on, the power supply or main circuit board has failed and the time Capsule should be replaced.

  • Time Capsule no longer works in conjunction with the ISP modem

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and my apologies if similar topics have already answered - rushed for this post, so I did not have too much time to browse the forums - please point me in the right direction if other threads exist!

I'm in the United Kingdom and Virgin like my ISP... I had my Time Capsule for almost a year now and if it had connected to the Virgin Super Hub (dial-up Modem mode), without any problems. A few weeks back, I started to notice the drops intermittent in the Internet, until it finally went down all together without apparent reason. Now I can no longer use the Network Time Capsule using a Macbook, laptop computer Windows, Smartphone, Tablet, or Console games (I can always connect to the network, but there is 'no internet'). After talking at length with Virgin they basically blame the Time Capsule and say they cannot help me because it is not their technology. Since cutting the Capsule and turning back on the Super hub wireless, everything works again. I tried the simple things like rebooting, check connections etc., but to no avail.

I have a lot of backups on the time Capsule (I use it for work purposes), so I'm afraid to play with things too in case they are deleted, but now desperately need to get operational new... Should I look for to reset the Capsule of time and/or remove/reset the wireless network I created when the first set up (if everything resets is possible without deleting the stored files)? Any help or advice would be much appreciated... Sorry for the long post!

    Thank you guys so much!

The first part is to ease your mind... the TC is perfectly ok with reset... nothing can be deleted by using the reset button or reset everything in airport utility... the only way to erase the hard drive is to clear its contents through the disk tab in the airport utility.

We noticed a lot of problems with the WAN port on the TC... And a bunch of modems... This can happen a day or day 366... but once it starts, it doesn't go away.

Connect the TC in the Virgin hub working in router mode full... you're going to fill the TC.

    1 factory reset the TC.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

    2. make a new configuration of your Mac or iOS devices.

With the wan of the TC plugged into the hub of Virgin by ethernet it should choose default wire bridge... If this isn't the case, manually change the configuration.

    3. once it is bridged leave the connection of the Virgin hub since the LAN of the TC port WAN... and see how it goes...

If it works ok for the backup then continue to use it... If it's still questions... Please post screenshots... or consider to resume to apple... in the United Kingdom, you should have a legal guarantee of a couple of years... much longer warranty Apple offer directly.

  • Time capsule has stopped working

Time capsule has stopped working. No orange or green light. Food is the device. Is there a fuse that might be blown? Reset it would bring to life?  Is it possible to get the backup data stored on it?

Is there a fuse that might be blown?

    Sorry, but no.

Reset it would bring to life?

No, unfortunately it wouldn't be possible to reset the time Capsule if it will feed at all.

Is it possible to get the backup data stored on it?

Open the Capsule and remove the hard drive. Place the disk into a USB to SATA cart and which connect to your Mac.  Here, I'm assuming that the Time Capsule is not yet covered by warranty or the AppleCare, as it opens the warranty, if it is still covered.

If you could post back with the model number of the Capsule of time... it is on the lower part of the device, probably embedded in the foam pad base, and begins with an 'A' followed by four numbers... we may have some additional information or advice for you depending on the model you have.

  • Time machine no longer works after update to Mac OS Sierra

Backup Time Machine has stoped working on two of our Macs, I've updated for Sierra (MacBook Pro 15 "beginning 2013 and iMac early 2016"). They don't backup but are blocked for days now in the 'backup preparation' (connected via gigabit ethernet). The iMac uses our backup NAS (Synology DS216j) and a USB HD (Maxtor), now it can't mount the USB HD or, as the MacBook Pro, get to the point of actually perform a backup on the NAS backup server. All computers (all six of'em, five Mac and a Windows thing) was perfectly support towards the top, but those updated for Sierra no longer.

Someone else who has had this experience and even has a clue what to do about it?

    Hi Dr. freon!

Thank you for joining the communities Support from Apple! Looks like you are having problems with the Time Machine backup. I know how it is important to be sure that the computer is properly back up at any time. Check out this article which talks specifically of macOS Sierra: If Time Machine still at the stage of "preparation". He has some suggestions of what can cause problems with the backup of your stay to "prepare".

Another option is to read this article on macOS Sierra: Time Machine troubleshooting.

  • Airport Extreme and Time Capsule of airport work together?

I have time capsule and airport extreme. I need to decide if I should sell Airport extreme or is there a way for the two to work together to expand the wifi. Airport extreme can be connected to time capsule and extend the range?

AirPort Extreme can extend the time Capsule network in one of two ways:

    (1) for the best performance, the AirPort Extreme is located in the heart of the area where most of the wireless coverage is needed, and it would connect to the time Capsule using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

    (2) AirPort Extreme can connect to the Time Capsule wireless network and to extend the network in this way, if you're ready locate AirPort Extreme to halfway between the Capsule and the area that needs more coverage wireless... And... accept a drop in performance of half of the potential maximum speed on the network.

  • Time Capsule backups stopped working

I started successfully using airport Time Capsule to back up our 2 iMac and my Macbook Air in October.  My backups of my MBA have stopped working and I did not successfully back up from December 20.  Backup start and just stops part way through it, with the error message:

Time Machine could not complete the backup of 'airport' Time Capsule.

An error occurred when copying files. The problem may be temporary. If the problem persists, use disk utility to repair your backup disk.

Last successful backup: 20 December 2015

I tried to run the disk on my MBA utility and the TC backup space.  RAN in two places with success.

There is a lot of room left on my TC - 2.06 to 3 TB are available.

I'm on OS version 10.11.2 (that I have loaded 15 dec).

It is also interesting to note that the backup of my MBA seems to progress very slowly, even though I have excellent wireless connectivity.

Both of the iMac (the two 10.11.1 running) always execute backups successfully.

My suspicion is that there is a problem with 10.11.2 backups, but I can't find anything online to suggest.  Any thoughts on what could be the cause of the problem and how to fix it?

Above or upgrade to a different operating system change can certainly spoil Time Machine...

I recommend that you try again. If the files are located in the old backup that you want to keep copy the sparsebundle to a different location, for example a USB stick plugged into your computer. Or you can make an archive of the TC to save all files. You will need a large USB plugged into the TC that holds all the files there. Archive is a utilitarian Airport.

Then in the finder delete the existing TM backup and start a new.

I would seriously think about using a third party backup... for example, Carbon Copy Cloner... you can download and test for free for a month... It is just more reliable.

  • Since the upgrade to El Capitan my automatic backups on my Apple Time capsule do not work

Everything worked fine until I upgraded to El Capitan... now I don't have enough space for back ups on my time capsule (1 TB is) and a couple of years.

    What can I do simple?

    Thank you

You have 3 options.  Ranked in order of the most expensive on the down...

    (1) add a new time Capsule and start backups goes to this device. It is also the easiest option.

    (2) add a USB hard drive to the existing time Capsule and start going that animate the backups. Next best option in terms of simplicity

    (3) delete the existing and any time Capsule hard drive start over with new backups. Not too difficult, if you're good by following the instructions

  • WiFi work stopped on Time Capsule, but manages to get internet

Part of our time Capsule Wifi stopped working in our office.  He continues to receive internet because everything that is connected to the internet can connect properly, including our VoIP phone system.  It just seems to be the Wifi on the Time Capsule.  The network will appear as an option on our devices, but when we try to connect, it continues to request the password.  We tried to reset and unplug, but we are unable to join the wireless network.  The time Capsule is two years old, so I don't feel like it should be failed.  Any suggestions?

    WiFi may fail.

Please do a full factory reset.

    Universal factory reset

Turning off the TC... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... NB. None of your files on the hard drive of the TC are removed... This simply clears the settings of the router of the TC.

Run through the installation wizard in airport utility

Make sure you only give a name short and simple wifi... No, Apple has recommended. < 10 characters, pure alphanumeric characters.

    for example TCwifi

Or even give the 2 strips of different names, for example TC24ghz and TC5ghz

Password use WPA2 Personal, pure from 8 to 20 alphanumeric characters.

If you still have questions wireless... the TC may be broken.

If you have applecare on a computer or an ipad or apple TV the TC is covered and get Apple to replace.

If it is less than 2 years old and you don't have applecare you can always buy.

Is this more or less 2 years... It is essential... If it is still 1 day less than you can be replaced.

Buy applecare on any product that you already have still eligible or buy a Gen3 Apple TV... don't open it. Buy applecare for it... get your TC replaced under the applecare... return the apple TV for refund.

  • Time Machine does not work with Time Capsule, after update of Yosemite to iMac 2011

My Time Capsule features all work except when trying to access files with Time Machine. It is new and can be linked to an update in Yosemite. Tried rebooting both without success.

You can mount the drive of TC in the finder?

The old backup Time Machine may be usable via a direct opening so the sparsebundle to give it a try.

If not, do you want to achieve... you want to migrate your files? Have you tried the migration assistant?

  • Time capsule airport unplug my Airport Express and internet

    Howdy,

I just brought my Airport Time Capsule of the work. I have the joint via an Ethernet cable to my extreme, both are in my basement. Upstairs, I have a set Express in place to expand the wireless. The extreme and Express worked for many years now.

Once the time Capsule has been recognized in the public services of the airport, he made an update of the firmware.

After that, I edited the settings for the time Capsule to my home network and set it to "develop wireless."

Extreme, Express and Time Capsule all had them green to light up in public services - so I tried to run a Time Machine backup, and things went sour.

The cable modem the extreme is connected to started to abandon the connection every 30-45 seconds and the Express light went red and there is no longer recognized, so I clicked "forget" to remove it. Time Machine could not locate the time Capsule.

So I unplugged the Time Capsule, all rebooted and now my extreme and Express up and running again.

    What waste?

    Thank you

    Dan

After that, I edited the settings for the time Capsule to my home network and set it to "develop wireless."

I think you probably mean "extend a wireless network".

This is the bad setting... because it would be used only if the time Capsule connected to your network using Wireless.  You specify the Time Capsule connects using Ethernet.

Here is what is happening now... the time Capsule waiting for a wireless connection, but he gets an Ethernet connection.  This translates into a huge feedback loop that effectively blocks your network.

The correct setting for the time Capsule would be "create a wireless network"using the same exact wireless network name, security and password as other Apple routers. " Finally, make sure that the time Capsule is set to run in Bridge Mode before you click Update to save the new settings.

It's a new time capsule airport which was working fine until I changed the Sierra.

    Thank you

    Bill

afternoon, this seems to be a common problem - I came here looking for an answer as well. There is a smc / ram p reset fix floating MacOS Sierra - time machinestuck preparation backup on network devices. There is also an exclusion to spotlight some suggest work. I have tried both and neither worked for me, a lot more. I ended up clear time capsule. Airport utility > change > disks > erase disk. has immediately started a new backup and have not had a problem since.

  • Airport Time Capsule device not found

I have the time Capsule on the airport of the TB 3 802.11ac (bought 9/2014).  It integrates the latest version of the 7.7.7.  Just last week, I received the error device not found (.. .has been previously a part of your network... etc.).  The internet connection is always good and the component of the time capsule router still works.  When I unplug the device, it can find him but eventually will go down in a few minutes.  I also did a warm reboot, but some results.  Printer connected to the time capsule does not, nor does Time Machine back ups.

Would be grateful of any advice on why the drive not found error continues to occur.  Thank you!

You have Back to My Mac enabled on the Time Capsule?

If so, turn it off for the moment in the AirPort Utility and restart the time Capsule.

  • Time capsule with modem/router

I just got the phone with Apple support and they told me that time capsule will not work itself but he need a modem/router REQUIRED to work all time capsule. Is this true? Time Capsule is a modem/router. Why on earth someone would buy something for $ 600, which is not even replace the old modem router? I spend $ 200 on a 3 TB hard drive and do the same work. Please answer.

    Time Capsule is a modem/router.

    No, this is not correct.

The Capsule is a router only. It doesn't have a modem on board. If you have a Time Capsule and you want to be able to access the Internet, you will need a modem to connect to the time Capsule.

More providers of Internet services (ISP) provide modems/routers and modems to their customers to connect to their service. Please contact your ISP and ask them what they recommend.
