to a new domain controller 2003 vsphere

Hello

We had to create a new Dc and joing Vsphere 4.0 ESS to it.

However, in the console vsphere 4, we still see the old domain name.

How this can be changed to reflect the new domain name.

Thank you!

Peter

I assume you mean the domain the host's FULL name. If Yes, go to the tab "Configuration" of the host and select 'and DNS routing '. There, you'll be able to change the FULL domain name.

I have a 2003 DC and I install a 2008 R2 to be the new domain controller. I want to migrate the users of Services Terminal Server profile for the new 2008 R2 domain controller?

    The Terminal Services home folder:

  • Domain controller 2003 desktop 10

    Hello

I get a constant error when I try to promote a Windows Server 2003 guest on a DC on workstation 10.0.4.  The error is:

"Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: failed to start Directory Service." The error status: 0xc00002e1. If please clock OK to shutdown this system and reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode. »

I get it constantly if I invited a completely clean install of the OS with no patches, an installation of SP2 fully patched or create a clone that is bound to a model - I used this model even many, many times with older versions of VMWare Workstation (on the same host) without problem and have done many installs own on previous versions of workstation without problem , so for the moment I can only assume it's related to something in 10 Workstation, as much as I can follow the same process on VirtualBox to create a domain controller 2003 (using the same installation for clean installation media) and get a DC without any problem with happiness.

I have good knowledge of the AD and followed the instructions in the Microsoft KB articles (specifically KB258062) for the above error and am able to solve and get AD works fine, but then the next reboot the virtual machine the error returns.

The log file of the client is attached.

    Any ideas?

    Hi all

Just put an update here for all the world reference.  I solved this problem and a few others that I had where Server Manager on a server OS comments fails with CLR errors or updates would fail.

The cause seems to be that I was to store the virtual machines on a Pool of storage R2 Server 2012 (Server R2 2012 is the host machine), where I had a couple of discs actually provide a RAID 0 configuration.  I now divide these discs so that they are quite "normal" disks and I shared my virtual machines manually between the discs and all my problems disappeared.

This only seemed to affect my SATA III 2 TB disks that I have a couple of SSD in a Storage Pool and they seem to work fine (maybe a speed/cache associated effect?)

  • Where can I submit my reviews on the new domain controller?

I tried the new version and it's just useless for my needs. How can it do a number with a new interface almost full? Why does not give me the choice that one I want to use.

I don't really know how it is possible to be productive with the prog, and why all this merged with the cloud. I just don't need that!

Is it possible to submit my criticism, to the moment I rather stay with XI or use other programs for a productive environment.

  • Windows server 2008 r2 domain controller deletes printers on windows 2003 Server

We have recently installed two new Windows Server 2008 R2 servers in our field.  one of the new servers is the new domain controller (successor of Windows Server 2003 SBS, which has been decommissioned).  There are two other Windows 2003 servers in the domain.  When we turn off all servers for maintenance and then power them back on, the print on the windows 2003 Server spooler crashes; printers are deleted and the server does not allow you to add printers.  is this be caused by some settings in windows server 2008 r2?  This happened twice, and the solution is to rub the print on the windows 2003 Server spooler and reinstall the printers from scratch.

  • Install a new domain on a VM server controller in our Active Directory

    Hello world

Thank you for your help in advance.

I would like to put a (with Windows 2003) domain controller in a Windows 2008 box and add the domain controller for the existing Active Directory network. My manager approves it and it will be my advised to work more VMWare work officially.

Here are some questions that I have and hope you can help answer:

1.) there will be problems to run a domain controller in a virtual machine environment?

2.) on the RODC (VM), I can install all services such as DHCP, DNS, WINS? And they will work only with no problem?

3.) on Windows 2008 Server, which I will install VM Server, that server must be a domain member server?

(4.) what the backup on the new domain controller? Can I just save the virtual machine files in the folder of BackupExec? Or free tools, I can try?

5.) I don't think the org will put money on the implementation of a san or vmware structures... According to what I have, have you any tips on this project? Is it a good idea to run the domain controller in the VM environment?

I thank very you much for your help once again!

    Takusan

Thank you very much for your info! # 1, you mentioned there are a few things must be aware, can I ask that those who are?

A few I can think of are:

    (1) supported by Microsoft - backup methods if you want MS support for a problem with the AD, make sure that you use the supported backup methods.

    (2) the time sync - more important still, how you intend to do.  VMware Tools or native Windows utilities.  Discover 1318 KB for more information.

    (3) the safety of encapsulated all the vm files - that is why I recommended given the host on the domain.  It would be more likely to pick up updates of patches, GPO, AV, etc. like this.  Your virtual DC is now portable, and this represents a new security challenge.

    (4) how to avoid snapshots on DCs - what can cause a USN restorations, unsupported directories and General nastiness that should be avoided.

    (5) avoiding the DCs P2V conversions - what is generally not recommended. Their new construction.

    (6) given the requirements of performance - make sure that your host can follow or actually providing the resources to the virtual machine.  You do not want your DC is slow for some reason any.

There are probably others I'm here leaving as well.  This is why I think that domain controllers does not necessarily make the best pieces for virtualization.  If you take a print server, you will see most of the above concerns disappear.  It can be done with the DC first, but it'll just be a steep learning curve.

  • How to force the domain controller to accept the new PDC after the orphaned domain controller

Hey guys, have a pretty complex but simple problem.

I had a my student domain PDC holder down. He worked to RID and infrastructure

I was able to grasp the roles to another domain controller, so this new domain controller, allows the appeal is that DC1 is now PDC.

However, I can't convince the other DC, such as DC2 and DC3, to make it the new pdc.

When I run the netdom query I get

    * WARNING role owner is a deleted domain controller: CN = NTDS settings\OADEL etc.

So actually, he knows that his pdc has been removed from metadata. Where is this hard information coded in adsi edit, and where I can edit to type the host name of the new pdc?

  • Creating additional domain controllers 2003 for testing in a sandbox environment

    Hello

We run many production servers in a windows 2003 environment.

To test future applications and internal development, we plan to create a test environment of sandbox for our production environment.

I read that conversion existing DC directly is problematic, what happens if we

-created additional servers in the virtual machine,

-dcpromo + synchronization the new servers with the production of DC

    -Finally the sandboxing them?

There will be issues when the new domain controller is not accessible by the PDC? These DCs in sandbox will be fully functional?

    Appreciate any feedback.

    RAMM

    Hi Ramm,

    Welcome to the forums.

It is a best practice to not virtualize a domain controller. It is better to create a new server and promote a domain controller.

You can divide your domain name and create a replica of lab but you always have to take care of is not to reconnect this isolated domain in production to avoid conflicts.

These are the steps to split a domain:

-create a virtual Windows machine with the same version and SP as production

    -promote a domain controller

-Once the replication completed, isolate it from the network

-in the field of production, remove data from active directory to the remote server

-on the remote server, enter the FSMO roles, DNS and DHCP functionality

  • Move a domain controller to to new location, different host

    Hello

Just curious if anyone has any experience of problems ranging from a windows 2003 R2 sp2 domain controller from one place to another.

    Windows 2003 R2 sp2 on a Vsphere ESX 4.0 in Data center A.

I intend to move the VM Datacenter B running on ESX 4.1 and give the new IP address, mask and DNS servers.

I'll just turn off the virtual machine, copy the whole directory to an external to copy to the new ESX host device

    Thank you!

    JOe

Like Chris says these things could be the site of the affected domain controller to, or it could be a replication of some kind partner.   I mean, really, just everything about AD that would have to be modified due to the change in the IP/location.

I am currently working on adding a domain controller Windows Server 2012 and field existing Windows 2003.  My current domain controller (Server 2003) had a level of functiontional of Windows 2000 server, when I first tried to add the server DC 2012.  I changed the functional level of the domain on the Server 2003 Windows 2003 (it is the only domain controller in the tree).  When I try to add the Server Server 2012, he reports that this domain is a Windows 2000 domain.  I checked and restarted the 2003 server.  Does anyone know why the 2012 still sees the field as 2000 functional level?
