To access the files on hard drive

I have an external hard drive that I can't access to and open files in the folder on my desktop. It gives me the error message: access is denied. I can open the files on my laptop. My desktop is running xp and my laptop runs 7. All of the suggestions. I'll be able to use the hard drive turned blue between the two computers?

Hi DonaldBeard,

You use the Welcome screen to connect?, log out of your user account, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE (without + all simultaneously twice) you will get the classic login screen, enter your username as administrator and type your password. If you set no password try blank password. You should be able to connect.

I hope this helps.

    1. can I save my files/fix this problem without having to restore via disk utility?

    2. What am I doing wrong / I can do to restore correctly on an external hard drive via disk utility?

    Background

Last week when I turned my MacBook Pro 2012 I got stuck on the gray login screen. The progress bar moves very, very slowly and when he finished my laptop spontaneously restarted and repeated the same thing over and over again. Here's what I tried to do so far:

-Start in SafeMode: does not work

-Extended Apple Diagnostics/Apple Hardware Test: test results: no problem found

-Utility (recovery and valorisation of the Internet) disk: disk hard Mac (Apple HDD) and Recovery (partition) HD are not damaged, but the partition disk0s2 is (created after a failure; a year not logged - if it matters) and in 'check' and 'fix' the latter I get inconsistent error messages.

    Disk utility error messages

Most often, I get this error:

The volume disk0s2 was found damaged and must be repaired. Error: This disc needs to be repaired. Click on the ERD.

    Stopped disk utility check "disk0s2."

Disk0s2 volume could not be repaired after 3 attempts.

Error: Disk utility can't repair the disk. Save as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your files packed around the top.

I also received this error message once:

Wrong number of extended attributes (it should be 730585 instead of 730589)

Wrong number of access control lists (there are 1364 instead of 1368)

Save the files to external hard drive?

Before that I didn't even used/accessed Time Machine.  I have a new HDD external, formatted for Mac. I created two partitions: backup and Time Machine (so I can start using it once I have find this current issue). When I try to restore disk0s2 external hard disk I get an error restore failed (252 or 254, I think).

When you drive is damaged, it is extremely difficult to make progress.

I recommend the lessee a spare drive in an external enclosure and install MacOS on it again. Then boot from that and you are back in business. You can use the full power of Mac OS AND additional utilities to recover your files.

More 350 000 files on your damaged disc are Mac OS - and those that can be installed in replicas of prefect by a new installation on a new drive. You can't Brute force 'all' copy of a damaged disc. What you want back damaged drive is not Mac OS X files - you want YOUR files. They are stored in the Directory/users in a folder with your short user name. with additional utilities, you can simply copy this directory, or use a recovery as data rescue program to get individual files.

  • Back to my mac: get the files from hard drive

Background: I tried to copy files from an external hard drive to iCloud. I didn't have no idea of back to my Mac has been verified (or even existed). When I dragged the files to iCloud it copied but it fills my iMac's hard drive. I need this 70 GB of available disk space.

I disabled the back to my Mac and free memory in the iMac icon box is up GB 0.01 every 15 minutes. At this rate, I'll get an answer to this question before I know if it is significant or not.

Question: Where are these files on my iMac drive? Are these files on my iMac drive? I can not find them. If they are there, they disappear or I have their garbage?

    Thank you.

If their trash, they will be deleted to iCloud. Check your document mobile/library username.

Go to Finder and select your user folder. With this Finder window as the windshield, select Finder/display/display options for presenting or order - J.  When the display options opens, check "show the library folder. This should make your visible user library folder in your user folder.  Select the library.

  • Can not read the files on hard drive

I bought a new computer with Windows 7.  My old computer running Windows XP and has a virus which disabled permanently.  I want to recover the files from the old drive to the new hard disk.  I removed the hard drive from the old computer and put it in the new computer.  The new computer recognized and named E: drive.  However, Windows Explorer shows "this folder is empty".   But when I look at the properties of the drive E:, it shows that the old hard drive is 40% full.  Why is it impossible to see the files in Windows Explorer?  And how can this problem be fixed?

    Hello

Check out the following and check:

    Method 1:
Run a virus scanner and check:
Viruses are known to cause these problems. Scan your computer for the Microsoft Security Scanner, which allows to get rid of viruses, spyware and software malware.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expire after 10 days from the date of installation.
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 2:
Viruses may have hidden files, try the steps in the following link to view it.

  • Import from SD card does not store the files on hard drive, but only references to SD card after import.

Hi - for some reason, files of my card SD imported into lightroom, but referencing only the SD itself card and as files within the usual on my macintosh HD library, of course, when I eject the SD of my iMac, lightroom do not know where the files are more. I tried to delete LR and re-import but the same thing happened. I also saved the DCIM folder on desktop and tried to import from there, but again, it is important files directly to my address in LR, which means that I have to keep my SD card. I use LR for a while and this is the first time that this has happened. I imported the files to another SD card later and everything worked as it should. I really want to make sure that my original files are where they should be on the hard disk and in LR, so I can safely eject my card and not to lose my files. Can someone tell me how to go about this please?

When you perform the import, you must select the COPY option, and under the Destination on the side right, you must select a location on one of your hard drives.

  • How can I delete the files from hard drive update?

Whenever I download some updates of drivers and programs to my PC via the HP Support Assistant, the program downloads firmware like spXXXXX and then decompresses them in C:\SWSetup folder in order to install them. Now, I see that this folder is not empty and is about 8 GB and probably the update packages are stored somewhere else, and I have room in my drive, so the question is: is it safe to delete the contents of this folder or the files are always stored in a purpose? Is there a way I can clean these files after you install the updates?

Yes, they are created in a temporary folder and then gets deleted after installation.

or the other works perfectly, the only drivers will be a problem if you install it as a main player in many a laptop different, in which case some of the laptops hardware may not work until you update the drivers.

  • I'm unable to access the files on my external hard drive

I have an external hard drive and can't read the files. The device appears on my PC, but no file shows when I go to the device and equipment. My PC is not recover this unit and only not recognize it as a USB device. I can see this under the folder hardware and devices, but there is no entry. Is there a way to access the files or retrieve files? The material of the driver is up-to-date.

    Hello

Try to connect the external hard drive on another computer / USB and check.

If you are able to access the files on the other computer, and then try to update the drivers for the chipset of your computer.

You can visit the website of the manufacturer of the computer to get the chipset drivers.

    Thank you.

  • Trying to access the files on an external hard drive in XP with Vista... Access denied.

My old laptop with XP died, so I purchased an external drive and installed my old hard drive in it. I now use Vista, but whenever I try to access the files I get a message saying that I don't have permission to access the files. I spent in and changed the settings in files to reflect property, yet I always refused. I have read the discussions and met some people with the same questions, but proposed solutions seem to be more confusing than the problem itself.

These files have been encrypted? If Yes and you did not save your encryption certificate/key, the files are lost forever. If the files are not encrypted (and you can do this natively in XP Home), then appropriate should do the trick. Again, here are the instructions:

    1. right click on the file or folder and then click Properties.
    2. click on the Security tab.
    3. under group or user names, click your name to see the permissions you have.

To open a file, you must have the read permission. For more information about permissions, see what are permissions?

    http://tinyurl.com/2j9vgr

To take ownership of a folder:

1 right click on the folder you want to take control and then click Properties.
    2. click on the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the owner tab.
    3. click on modify. Need administrator permission if you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    4. click on the name of the person you want to give to the property.
    5. If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders in this folder, select the Replace owner of subcontainers and objects to check.
    6. click on OK

If after all this you may not always get the files, I just boot the system with a Linux Live CD or Live USB key and copy in Windows there because Linux does not respect ownership/permissions of Windows.

You can create a USB bootable Linux instead of a bootable CD. This site will show you how, and it's very easy -http://www.pendrivelinux.com

  • Cannot access the files from the internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.

  • Trying to access the files on an external drive. It is denied. Some files are accessable. / problem solved. But please help me learn.

    Hello.

I use XP Home 32-bit Edition. My a-external hard drive is a Western Digital My Book Essential 1.5 Tb USB2 HARD drive: model number: WDBAAF0015HBK-00.

I can't access all files on the external hard drive. Currently, I mounted it on a folder. I have some files tif on the external hard drive and wanted to access my photos.

The message that I had to right click and select open with was "access to C:\(Folder tree) denied." I tried my programs and the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer of image editing. Nothing works.

When I right click on the images of problem the only options I have are: open, print, edit, Preview, open with, send to. None of these work.

Some files are not accessible, and others. Unaccessable files do not have a preview image in the window pane (on the lower left side when I'm in the folder).

This can happen if I didn't 'delete safetly' external hard drive or there was a Brown out? Some of the tif are too long file extensions? Shouldn't windows warn me too long file extensions?

I consulted the havn't the reader for a while.

I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files. When I click on a file, and then click file - properties: nothing shows up and he says: size: 0 bytes, size on disk: 0 bytes. But when I click on the file in the folder, it says that it is 23.3 MB. I can move the folder on my desktop.

When I select all the files and click on file - properties: it is said attributes: read-only and hidden. They are green in box, I have not did those and it does not work. I clicked on Advanced Options, again I had unstapled the ReadOnly and hidden, then I unchecked all 4 options because they were greenboxed too. It's green boxes, not the check marks in both situations. What are the green boxes?

    ______________________________________________________

Fixed a problem. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it. At this point, I just thought, since I had problems with the music files (mp3 or wav) is too long and is not be able to access or remove them, but I can delete the folders to get rid of them.

So my question is why am I unable to access the files? This is a limitation of my external hard drive? Can I test or repair? What is this kind of disk with this version of Windows? What is a format? It's NTFS. Computer management indicates that the external drive is healthy.

It seems that some files are not named as long as others and I could access those. Is there a limit on character/attribution of Tif or all types of files? If so, is it the same? Pourrait - linked to the way in which the external (or internal drive?) is setup in the policies tab? Are each disk different? They seem to be a little more limited than the internal hard drives, but I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the usb2.

Does anyone know if there is a program or a way to know how many letters or numbers have been used? Microsoft Word and Works a number of words, but Works 9 (I have that) doesn't have a number of letter.

Contradict you yourself.  At one point, you said:

    > I can not drag and drop the files to my desktop. I can't copy, cut, delete or move the files.
    and then you say:
    > A problem fixed. I dragged and deposited the files on my desktop and I can access it.

This side, the general approach to access in this case is "Ownership" of these files.
"How appropriate a file or a folder in Windows XP"

This probably occurred because the files were created on different computers by users with different Secure ID (SID) or you have reinstalled Windows and files were protected to some extent.  Since you are using XP Home Edition, the only way to see the security settings is to start your computer using safe mode and log in as an administrator.  This will give you access to the 'Security' tab when you right-click on a file and select 'Properties' (as described in the article above).  Apart from connecting with Safe Mode, you can use 'Cacls' command from a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") to view or change permissions on files

  • Error: "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." when treid to install the device driver

Original title: Windows cannot install the drivers

I had a lot of trouble installing the drivers on my Windows computer.  I went straight in the Device Manager and deleted the devices I tried to install and reinstalled them, I went into safe mode, I got Windows to run the console and only the basic process and run from there Device Manager... no matter what I do the same mistake.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

Even after a restore of the system, he did this, and I don't know what to do anymore.  Only devices that have been previously installed work.

What's more important install my Blackberry software because my phone is broken.  The software cannot detect my phone because the drivers have not been installed.  Most of the devices I can use with Linux (I have Windows Vista and Ubuntu running on the same computer), but RIM don't make Blackberry for Linux software, so I have to do it on Windows.

I have a new Vaio running Windows 7, when I Plug one of my flashdrives which worked well under XP, I get a message saying I need to format the disk before using it. Yes, formatting the drive, it will delete everything on it and you
    lose your files.

It is possible that the flash drive has failed. Try this flash
drive in another computer and see if it works there.
