The combination catlogs referencing pictures on several external hard drives?

Hello:

Working with a client who had about 250 000 images stored on two 2 TB external hard drives... some pictures on each drive...

We went just to LR CC2015 and I would like to eliminate the redundancy of the CATALOG.

To get started, I created two catalogues, one for each hard disk and imported (added that copies of the photos of each disc).

Now I want to combine catalogs in a renowned referencing all the pictures on it

several external hard drives.

I think it is ok to do this but it best to double check with forum initially thought. Thanks in advance for the help.

Barbara Reiner

You can use the "Import an another catalog" option under the file menu to import a catalog into another. I suggest that you set "File management" as shown in the attached screenshot. In this way there is no need to move/reconnect files/photos associated with the source file.

    @stu

Not because of the number of pixels, in this photo and the chosen level of quality there is no possible way to create a JPG file to the size of file you requested. You must change your export settings.

Show us a copy of the export dialog box, so we can see clearly the part file setting and the size of the Image.

Also indicate the number of this image (width and height) pixels after cropping (as appropriate) and prior to export.

Both apps work well on iMac, on iTunes Apple TV is fine but unable to select Library of Photos from external hard drive via iTunes / folder / Home sharing / choose photos to share with the Apple TV. • Can I use CC with pictures on an external hard drive?

I bought Adobe CC and my images are just now in the photos on a Mac. I've never used photo (used opening), but when the upgrade to Yosemite to El Capitan Aperture was more consistent. I have a lot of images, I should Adobe CC a link to the images that I copy on an external hard drive or keep them on the Mac. Totally confused.

You can put your photos in any folder... just you know that you can "confuse" the program if you disconnect the external hard drive

  • Why has Lightroom copied my pictures from my external hard drive to my drive internal while the import?

I loaded all my photos on an external hard drive, created a new catalog and imported into Lightroom CC. However, there, without checking the book 'copy' copied all the pictures imported on my internal drive and they also linked in this way. Is it possible to ask Lightroom to just link the photos on my external hard drive?

If you want pictures to stay where they are on the import, you must specify "Add", not "Move" or "copy".

  • A Catalogue of several external hard drives. What is my best option?

Hello, I've just filled to the top of my external hard drive that hold all my files and my LR catalog. I want to continue to use the same catalog, but with a new HD... What is the way most common people this? I thought that if I put the catalog on my desktop - so if I open it with my new HD plugged I only see photos of my other images? Or is there a better way to do it? Thank you very much!!!

The location of the catalog and the location of your images are completely independent of each other.

    For example,.

    My catalogues: d:\lr6_catalogs

    Catalog backups: c:\lr_cat_backups

My pictures: (internal) d:\from_camera, q:\from_camera (external)

    image backups: p:\from_camera

I put catalogs on my internal drive, they very slightly longer run fast.

External drives come and go; Add more as needed.

If you are dealing with multiple computers, you can put the catalog and images and the same external drive and move the drive from one computer to the other.

If you use several external drives, and some of them are disconnected, LR will show previews and thumbnails in the LR cache (located in the catalog). Necessary for files located on disconnected drives will be indicated as "missing" until you connect the drive.

If you want to use a larger cache, you can enable Smart previews, which allow you to do an edition more than normal when the original files were defeated.

    As I do this:

    Internal catalog on disk

original images on external drives, grouped by date (new images in the new player)

Previews are standard previews, 'auto' for my monitor

no need for intelligent previews as the external drive 'current' is still attached

  • Mac > Windows 10 - moving pictures on disk external hard drive C: or?

First time Windows user; not much experience with LR/PS/cc.

Before selling my MacBook, I have all my files photo copied on an external drive. I just built a Windows PC and want to copy files from the external drive to the C: drive.

In the file browser, I see the external drive, drive C:, and "This PC', a section called"Images ". In this framework are three files: Camera Roll, Lightroom, the recorded images. In "Lightroom" is: Lightroom Catalog Previews, catalogue Lightroom, Lightroom Catalog.Ircat.lock, Catalog.Ircat - Lightroom journal.

Just downloaded PS and LR and the preceding must have been placed on my computer during the download.

My question is where can I copy files to my external drive to? One of the above or on the C: drive?

    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I would certainly put pictures on the external hard drive. There is virtually no advantage to place them on the C: drive, and they don't take up much space.

  • To pictures of portable external hard drive

I have a lot of pictures on my laptop and a catalogue prepared by Lightroom 3.5.  I decided the best way to store photographs is to keep on an external hard drive so that I can work it easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is often cut)   Is there a way to keep/import/export/edit the current catalog so that it works with the pictures on the external hard drive? I wouldn't really have to redo the catalogue with all the keywords everywhere.

You can copy or move the catalog file (*.) LRCAT) for the external hard drive with your operating system (Windows or Mac Finder). Then, once moved, double-click it to open it. All of your information catalogue (keywords, other metadata changes) will be available.

The only problem (for Windows users, I don't know if this is true for Mac) is that the external hard drive should have the same letter on each computer you attach to. In other words, if it is today the E: drive on your computer, it must be the drive E: on all computers. Is relatively easy to change in the Windows drive letters; If you need to know how to do this, let us know.

  • How to print a list of the movies that I have on an external hard drive

I have my iTunes on an external hard drive.  I would like to print a list of the movies.  I tried 'print' which causes quicktime and iTunes to open. I tried "select all", "copy", then paste in the text change which causes a spinning endless ball and the eventual system crash.  I guess she's trying to print the actual movies rather than on the list.  Any ideas how to create a list of the contents of a disc and then print this list?  I use OS X on a macbook pro 10.11.5.

You a run this in Terminal and it will display the names of files in a file on your desktop.

    LS path/to/file > > ~/Desktop/Movies.txt

Replace the full path to the folder path/to/folder.

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.

    Hello

    ·        Have you tried the same files and backup folder in one different location (another drive or media)?

You can check if there are errors listed in Event Viewer related to backup is not made. To open Event Viewer, follow the link below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/open-Event-Viewer

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

You can also try to disable the security software and then try to run the backup utility and check if that helps.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hope this information is useful.
