Toshiba satellite c855d-s5303 drive locked

Nearby teenage restarts his computer while Windows updates applied.  Now, Windows 8 PC drive is locked.  How to unlock it?

Hi Cynthia,.

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum. I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:

  1. What is the brand and model of the computer?
  2. Do you use a bit-locker on the computer?
  3. Did you try to refresh the PC using a Windows Recovery mode installation media?
  4. When and where exactly do you see drive is locked message?

This problem can also occur due to the poor connection between your hard drive and the motherboard. You may also experience this problem if the boot files are corrupt. Please try the steps suggested by Phanlon replied on 12 October 2013 this thread and check if it helps.

I hope this helps. If you need help with Windows, let us know and will be happy to help you.

    Hello

I have a rug * a uj811 dvd - ram drive in my notebook after insertion of a cd that it t could not read, he has stopped working (I think that was the reason).

In Device Manager, it is marked as loans and works, but if I click on it in the Solution Explorer, the system tells me that there is a device I/o error (I'm not sure if this is the proper translation, because I have a German version). I can't access the drive, read or write CD & DVD! Two friends of mine had a similar problem with the same drive (they have satellite p10). It stopped working without any reason!

I found a new driver on the internet but couldn't t install, because it tells me that the device is not on this computer

Is there any help or it's broken?

    Thank you

    Junior

    Hey Junior

I think that the drive is not defect or broken just isn't compatible with your device. The problem is that all readers used by Toshiba laptops cannot work properly with each laptop model.

If there is possibility to find one it will be the best solution.

I assume you have the laptop model US so if you need drivers, you should be able to find them on http://support.toshiba.com/drivers

  • Satellite C855D-135 - corrupt BIOS, black screen, keypad does not work

    Hello everyone.

I had some problems with my laptop Toshiba Satellite C855D-135. I had to change my internal hard drive, so I decided to install windows 7 on it (I used to have windows 8 but do not have the CD and I could not find the license key sticker).
So I went into the BIOS it go from UEFI to CSM, but something was not right and he seems to have corrupted the bios.
I think I have it bricked, but some things still work.

    When I turn it on:
-l' screen stays black (Yes, I tried it on another screen)
-the keyboard is not working (the leds do not turn when I press the caps lock)
    -the fan works fine
    -cd player works fine
-When I plug a USB key, it quickly flashes once, which seems to work
-When I removed the memory bar, the computer has done is the series of beeps

-J' tried to remove the battery, unplug and pressing the power button for centuries. (no luck)
-J' tried to remove the CMOS battery to restore default bios. (no luck)
-J' tried flashing the bios on a USB key, until I realized that the keyboard was not working and it was in vain.
-J' tried to update the bios on a CD and it ran for a while, but nothing happened in the end. I tried to put these files on the CD:
    -IBIOS. BAT
-C8610. FD (in the folder of Win8)
-C610. FD (in the WIN7 folder)
-J' tried to rename C8610. FD to the BIOS. FD

I am out of ideas now.
Could someone help me? Pretty please?
I hope that this is not the motherboard that broke, coz I really didn't have the money to send it off to be repaired.

In the history sounds very strange to me I never heard that that it would affect the BIOS to change the boot UEFI to MSC mode.
In my opinion, there is a serious hardware problem. As you already linked to, it would probably be a motherboard failure.

I recommend you to ask some technicians for hardware diagnostics to check the motherboard in order to be 100% sure about the fault.

If you n t have enough money and the motherboard is really affected you could try to recover a part of 2nd hand

  • How can satellite C855D-16J - I get Windows 8 back to normal?

It's a long story how it all happened.
Basically, this all started when I decided to give Ubuntu a go.

After spending with the installer and have finished installing, I realized that I had made a terrible mistake; I had cleaned up my hard drive completely.

Then I had to spend hours to find a method reinstall Windows 8. I have found a useful post on some forum and burned a recovery of Windows 8 ISO on my USB key.

Installation was successful and I get back Windows 8, or so I thought...

It turns out that I had only an evaluation version. On my desktop, it says the following:

    "Windows 8 business valuation.

Valid Windows license for 90 days

    Build 9200'

I thought that if I could use the product key that is hidden in the BIOS, using Keyfinder, I could get working again with [this | http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only], but nope. I got the error: "this product key cannot be used to install the retail version of windows 8'

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C855D-16J, comes preinstalled with Windows 8. I would like to know how to get this thing running again.

I don't have any money to spend (not that I should have to spend anything) and as emergency aid, please. Some ISO or key or whatever it is. Just lose my files, I won't be stuck with a laptop that I can not use

    Thank you.

It seems that you did not create the Toshiba Recovery disk which is advisable in order to reset the computer laptop back to factory settings

In this case, you can order the disc missing from here:

    Hello

The message looks like the laptop will not boot the disc.

The question is: is this a problem with the new recovery disks, or perhaps with Notepad

To be honest, I think his recovery disk problem, and maybe you will need contact the drive vendor to replace the recovery media.

    But before that, try this:
    Switch on and press F2.
Now you should be able to access the BIOS. Set the CD/DVD device in the first starting position here. Also, to clear the safe boot option from the UEFI CSM.
Now to boot from the recovery disc.

Would be interesting to know what is happening

    Hello

Sometimes its advised to read other threads where the same question has already been asked.

There was a similar question for Satellite C850D.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=73956

Satellite C850D and C855D models support the same chipset and the same processor so info s Francesco should apply to your laptop model too.

As mentioned in another thread: upgrading the CPU is not supported by the manufacturers of portable and these updates can be done only at your own risk, with no guarantee more than portable would go well after this exchange of CPU

  • Set password Linux ATA hard drive / Toshiba Satellite Pro U200

Sorry for the long post, but I want to be as specific as possible:

    1)
I use a Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 under Linux (OpenSUSE) for some years now. Works fine without problems so far, even the fingerprint reader works. I deleted and never used the Windows XP preinstalled.

For security reasons, I have now decided to put a HDD ATA password, in case the laptop is lost or stolen (changed drive for a disk Seagate Momentus 7200 FDE.2 SATA II with full encryption of the disk material).

In order to get the protection offered by the full disk encryption, I need to set a password for the ATA. During startup, the Bios must request the password and unlock the drive only when the password is correct.

    2)
My problem is: in the Toshiba laptop it is impossible to set the hard drive ATA password directly in the bios (as is possible in HP laptops, for example). Toshiba there is only one way to set the password to disk, which is a software utility for Windows XP (named 'Assist'). But I don't want to change the operating system only to set this password.

    3)
Therefore, I tried the linux instructions

    hdparm - user-master m - security-all-pass SecretMasterPassword/dev/sda
    hdparm - user-master u - security-all-pass SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

which are used for adjustment ATA passwords. Indeed, at first, it seems to work very well. The password is set and the drive is locked.

    4)
When I restart the laptop, the Bios the HDD password request, as it should do.

But he does not accept the SecretUserPassword prior to seizure. The answer is "wrong password", or similar.

    5)
    Analysis:

I have no doubt that the password has been set correctly: I checked by restarting the laptop through rescue DVD in linux and unlock the disc via

    hdparm - user-master u - safety - unlock SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

in order to use it. No problem, it works as supposed to. After the release, the disc is usable as usual. And I can also disable the password via

    hdparm - user-master u - security - disable SecretUserPassword/dev/sda

After you disable the password, the laptop starts normally again, but I have no password.

When I re-enable the password bios Toshiba again asks the password during initialization, but does not accept the (correct) password on entry.

    6)
Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior?

Bios Toshiba has somehow changes the password entered by the user, before being sent to the disk? I think that this would be inconsistent with the ATA standard.

Anyone managed to set/change the password to ATA in a way that the disc can be unlocked via the internal order of the Bios, without installation of Windows XP and the Toshiba Software 'Assist '?

Thanks for reading this long post so far. Any response is welcome.

    Hello

As you probably know Linux is not supported by Toshiba and if you n t get some good advice here I recommend you to visit a few Linux forums and try to discuss with experts in Linux it.

  • Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ does not supply power to the top after removing the HARD drive

    Hello world!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1DJ. It has a 750 GB HARD drive, but it wasn't enough for me. So I bought a Toshiba 1 TB HARD drive. I have undone all the screws, carefully (using my driver's license), lifted up the plastic and removed a HARD disk.

BTW, I really like this plastic solution on the HARD drive!

Then I realized, that all my stuff is still on it.
So I put the HARD drive, I'm going to copy everything on my drive hard Ext. planning.
Well I screwed it back, got the battery, put the back of the AC adapter.

Battery charge light was on, indicating that the current flows. I pressed the 'Start' button, and nothing happened. He broke yet still nothing. I plugged the battery and the AC output adapter, I held the Power button for 30 seconds, put everything back still nothing. I got scared. Opened back once more, just to take a look at, so anything that slipped on. Nope.

Everything is a okay. What should do? I have the warranty? I hope not.
Can I fix myself without void my warranty? I hope so!

And also: I bought the laptop in Hungary, but I'm in Germany. Can I fix here in case my warranty is valid?
