sugarbear18,

I think I'll give you a try, maybe that could also clear up the things that I'm not aware are a problem?
I initially do not remember what the key of the OS has been but realized it was on the computer of the firm. I really appreciate your help. Is it right to mark your help as to solve the problem? And if you will pass this message on the forum of BONE would be great.

Thanks again,

Tom

Yes Tom, please mark resolved because it helps other people who come on the forum for help. I'll move this thread for you and ask a forum OS people to monitor your messages if you need assistance.

  • To factory without recovery CD Dell Dimension 5100

My parents have a Dell Dimension 5100 with Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.  It works well just very slow because it is clogged with old software and unwanted.  They want to give my grandmother to use, so I need to get done restore to factory settings, it's like a new computer for her.  However, we cannot find the CD that came with it (other than a resource CD).

Is there a way for this restore without CD?  I have the OEM code, XP product key, Service and Express Service Tag label.

I need to do this ASAP.  Grandmother's hard drive died yesterday, and already, it's called once today ask when it would be ready LOL.

Assuming that the hard drive has never been reformatted or replaced, you can reset the PC to the factory image by restarting and quickly by pressing the Ctrl and F11 keys and following the instructions.  EVERYTHING will be deleted including all personal files, so they must be backed up on an external first.

You must reinstall all updates from MS for XP (hundreds of them) and all your software and personal files after the restore, which could take days, depending on your internet connection speed.

Keep in mind that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and there are a lot of no fixed security problems. Thus, the PC might be infected very quickly if Grandma goes on the internet.

Maybe you should just buy him an inexpensive Inspiron with Windows 10 which will be much more secure and probably faster than the D5100.

  • Master IDE HDD to slave in Dimension 5100 DVD burner

    Hello

I just added a disk IDE (PATA) (jumper to master) to the same controller that my existing DVD burner, now set as slave. the two IDE channels is enabled in the BIOS and the hard drive passed Diagnostics.  But the new IDE HDD is not recognized by Windows, although it appears like a hard drive under Device Manager.

The recommendation of the forum seems to favor using an external HARD drive enclosure, but I'm not willing to do unless it's the only way to make it work.

What else is required to complete the configuration?  I am running XP Professional.

  • Dell Dimension 5150 do not start LED logo on 123 + progress bar is stuck at 5% no beeps

My old Dell Dimension 5150 has sometimes suffered from crashes during startup for quite awhile, but it now appears permanent.

The symptom is the logo dell appears, but the startup progress bar stops at 5%, diagnosis LED 1,2 & 3 are stable on, power light is green fixed, no beeps, no response to the keys.

In the past disconnecting the cable for 5 minutes, which gives all the internal connectors a re-allocation of places, you try to start again seemed to do the trick, but no more.

    Any suggestions where to look?

No such thing as PC2 4300 except for sellers who are less honest.

    PC2 4200 is too slow

PC2 5300 5 5 5 12 works fine. Suppliers must match for speed and the CASE.

Blockages can be feed if it isn't certified EPS12v PFC.

    Minimum recommended is CS750M Corsair.

Supplies are not units of 12 v x watts.

You need 150W on the 3.3v 5v Rails and 15-20w on the + 5VSB rail.

RAM RAM may NOT BE ECC or buffered or Registerd HIGH density AMD.  Must be LOW DENSITY INTEL Compatible ram.

The windows of origin is always on display as shown above, but I received a free upgrade to Windows XP Professional CD and installed on my computer. And under 'Information system', it shows as - Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.

This problem started about 10 days when I used the CD of XP Professional to correct a problem. My computer is a Dell Dimension 5100 and I have two CDs that were sent to me - Dell - Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 3 and Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with update Rollup 2.

    Original title: deleted Ethernet adapter

    Hello

All trying to fix my computer run Registry cleaners, I managed to delete my Ethernet adapter, I have taken steps to try to fix this problem and have been advice to visit Microsoft support for help.
I have a Dell Dimension 5100 and am running Windows XP, I am unable to connect to the Internet via an Ethernet cable but I am able to connect with other devices.
First of all, I contacted my Internet provider which forced me to various checks to see why I was getting a message saying acquiring network address and it seemed that I had no IP address and could not connect. He eventually get look in the network adapters Device Manager, he demonstrated Intel PRO/100 VE network connection that is activated in the State shows that it works, but there is no Ethernet adapter shown in this place.
I tried to insert Dell drivers and utilities disk, but that does not change.
I tried to download on an other computer files from dell that look like they are pilots.
I tried to set up a new connection
None of what I tried so far seems to have worked, can anyone suggest what I can do to fix this?
    Thank you
    Kevin

    Hello

    1. what you're trying to fix by running registry cleaners?
    2. How did you remove Ethernet card?
    3. How are you online using other devices?
    4. What are the devices are?

Intel PRO/100 VE network connection is the Ethernet adapter on your computer. The following articles may be useful:

  • Registry problems cause hard disk by clicking on, then blue screen

Dell support said the clicking hard drive and next blue screen is caused by a registry error. In order to solve a problem of major virus and start over, I have completely reformatted the hard drive and installed the operating system and other programs, so I can't understand why I always have a registry problem.  Although I can not specify the exact moment, it seems to happen after an update of Windows, but also occurs at random.  It would also be the installation of MS Office 2010, because I do not remember what happens before the 2010 Windows Installer.  I read that registry cleaners do not work, so I am at a loss for what to do. What I don't understand is how the registry is damaged when all that I've done is install everything from scratch.  I have a Dell Dimension 5100 running Windows XP Home Edition w/SP3.

    Hi LiveToFish,

    1. What is the problem on the computer after reinstalling Windows?

    2. don't you still get the errors blue screen on the computer? If so, then what is the message on the blue screen?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

If the previous step fails, then check the event viewer to determine the cause of the blue screen on the computer and post back with the details.

    EDIT: Additional information

    Things to watch for.

Recently reported several cases of blocked MSDN keys packed with the media looking legitimate. I can not stress enough to save your packaging, media and reception, if you buy software such as this to appeal to the Bank, you bought it and report it to www.microsoft.com/piracy

If you bought a key, with or without DVD or packaging of EBAY, or any other person or seller and this could be a MSDN key because your key has been blocked you can check a few things yourself, if you have received your key with the physical product go to www.microsoft.com/howtotell and check your product, however some counterfeit software are thus convince you may not be able to identify it as such.

To check your PID press the key to victory and the pause at the same time, or system opened via the Control Panel, scroll to the activation section and properties related to computing PID will look something like this 12345-067-1234567-54321, the part that you are interested in is the section to three digits, if it corresponds or is included in one or two digits for the examples below You probably have a MSDN key.

065, 066, 067 for Ultimate, box 220 for Pro and the 230, 231 area of award, there are probably others, but they should be close to those that are displayed

If you have a similar PID, or your key is blocked and you want the confirmation message, a new thread with a report from the MGADIAG tool, download and run the tool, click on copy and paste it in a new post here and Darin Smith of MS can check your key for you. NEVER send your keys, the report will be sufficient.

I just upgraded my Dell Dimension 5100 to Windows 7 from XP. I can't get any internet connection with cable or wireless. I think the problem is the PCI modem. Where can I download the compatible driver Intel(r) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem work under Windows 7?

Thank you for your comments. I use the dial upward. However, my PC does not connect to broadband, even with direct Ethernet cable connection or adapter wireless Netgear WPN111, I used happily with XP on the same computer. Device Manager displays the PCI as incompatible. FYI, I downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the wireless card.

    Install the following:

Dell systems must run more stably once they installed. I would remove the modem PCI card.

Intel Pro/100 VE Ethernet should work natively with Windows 7 as Windows 7 has built-in driver:
