Transfer old files portable again

I'll get a new SL510 in a few days. I have a Thinkpad R61e in which I want to transfer most of my personal files.

Is there a more direct way to do this via a cable network instead of the zip drive?

Thank you

Hi anglirich!

Windows 7 Easy Transfer will guide you through that:

  • How to import old .dbx portable again?

When my old laptop crashed I got the "Geek Squad" in the context of the transmission of data, take my information from Outlook Express (email, folders with e-mails and address book) and put it in a folder on the computer desktop to my new laptop. I assumed that I would be able to import them into my new Windows Live Mail program but Windows wants to know what program created them and won't allow me to import into Windows Live Mail. I could go on the Comcast server and to make the most of them and reconstruct my address book, but there are important emails in OE files that I can't access. Is there a way toretrieve them?

Bruce: I knew it well enough, but when buying the thing I just gave in to the temptation to move quickly and thought they could handle something like this simply enough. It's not like they have never dealt with before Outlook Express problems. Or have they? In any case, now, I'm stuck I think.

A fairly knowledgeable friend think we are able to load Outlook and put them in this and then import them from there. We'll see.

In any case, thanks for trying.

    Steve

DBX files won't import without Folders.dbx present in any program. This is what should have the Geek Squad.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

It is no surprise to me that the Geek Squad was distraught. Is your Win7 Pro, enterprise or ultimate edition? If so, you can download XP Mode and have Outlook Express. If it is an option, you can manually import the dbx files in the Outlook Express and the copy of the message save folder as described above for transfer to WLMail.

  • Transfer of files from the old HARD DRIVE to new computer without an old computer. (He's dead - can not use) I have the hard drive, but need help to transfer my old files and settings.

    ·        My old Win XP computer died - it is completely unusable. I bought a new PC with Win 7 Pro and 1 TB. I still have the old HARD DRIVE (250 GB) which I have attached on the new computer using an external enclosure supports SATA drives. The external hard drive is connected to the computer in USB 3.0. I checked that the new computer can see the external hard drive. (I also used for backups by changing the hard drive with a 2 TB drive 'mass storage' - that works.)

I searched the internet for possible solutions and found no help. If the transfer of files from Microsoft would change the disc to analyze, it would be simple. But if I select the OLD computer it scans the disk I'm on (new) - automatically.

Is there anyone who has had the same problem? He must be because computers die all the time and people buy new computers - who then, somehow, they get the former transferred files. I could do it manually, but that wouldn't change the settings. Last resort would be to buy an old computer XP (SATA), replace the drive. Transfer the files, and then sell this computer.

You may be able to recover your data files, but I hope that you will set up your new system to automatically backup a second internal hard drive or an external USB hard drive.

This suggestion may not work, but it's worth a try. Buy an external USB drive enclosure. They come in two sizes 2.5 "for the portable computer drives and 3.5" for desktop disks. You can purchase adapters for 3.5 "envelopes so that they can also be used with a portable player. Place the hard drive in the enclosure and connect to a USB port of another computer. Several hard disks are more able to start, but the contents of the disc can still be accessed, read and copied from the disk because you do not use the operating system on a failed disk.

Here is an example of the type of device, I suggest:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=external+hardrive+enclosure&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=14388537836&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=556960941559985931&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_32uorbwbuk_b

You need only to the speaker, that you see are not necessarily more expensive. Thereafter, you can put an old hard drive usable, an abandoned because you need a larger drive internal, in the enclosure and use it as additional external storage.

  • How can I create a new admin user and transfer my old files?

    Hello

I want to create a new account administrator user on my imac and transfer all my old files.

Why? I have problems with adobe lightroom. I can't move the files from one folder to another; After a chat session of three hours with support from adobe, they discovered is not the lightroom catalog that causes the problem, the preferences file, nor permissions user/disc; so it's probably a problem with the user account is corrupted. They tried with a new test account and everything worked fine. So they suggested, I create a new user account and transfer my files.

I read on this forum that move all the files from one user account to another, means you also move the files at the root of the problem. So before you do anything: what are the thoughts of the community here on the suggestion of the adobe support the people, and if this is the right way to go, how should I go about this?

    System: imac 2.7 Ghz intel Core i5, 16 Gb 1600 Mhz DDR3, Mavericks 10.9.5, Lightroom 6.4

    THX in advance

    Robin

Open the preferences users and groups. Click on the padlock icon in the lower left corner. Enter your administrator password when prompted. Click on the [+] add at the bottom of the list of current users to create a new account. You can set the account to an admin account by selecting the new account administrator: drop-down menu. Set up as a result. However, you can't use the same user name, in order to transfer your data presents a problem with permissions. See the following article: transfer of files from one user to another account. Once you get set up in the new account, you can delete the old.

You shouldn't have a problem to transfer files of key records in your file. Just do not transfer anything from the folder/Home/Library/because that's probably where the shoe pinches.

  • I created a new Administrator profile and you want to transfer my old files. But I don't have access to them, how do I re - access?

My local profile on my Dell's Inspiron Mini netbook has been corrupted, so I had to create a new profile, who is also a Director. This new profile is empty - none of the previous documents, photo previous or any other file. When I go to the discovery of all users, I see that my old profile is always under Documents and Settings. So I want to spend all my old data in there with my new profile. However, when I try to click on the link a message window appears indicating that the file is not accessible, and access is denied.

Can someone please explain to me why this might be and if there's a way to redo the roster?

In addition, if it is not possible for me to regain access to these files, what should I click to restart the entire computer. As new and fresh. These files take up half the space in the hard disk, and since then I can not enter in the what is the point of keeping them. So if there is no way for me to access my old files again, how would I go on my computer restarts?

Facts in brief on my computer:
    -Windows XP system
    -Dell Inspiron mini laptop computer
-Only had a main profile (type administrator, of course)

I hope I explained my problem clearly, please excuse me if I don't. Can anyone help?

Duplicate the file system tree that you have on your old computer to your new computer. Use your home network to access your old computer to your new computer drive and just copy the files required for your new computer and disks that are the same driver on the new machine you letter.

  • How can I transfer my files from old computer with Windows XP to new computer with Windows 7 using a hard drive external?

I have a computer with Windows XP and I just bought a computer with Windows7, can I transfer files to the new computer by using an external hard drive?  If so, how?

    Hi BarbKe

Try to use this tool, it's called Windows easy transfer, I don't know if it works with an external hard drive or if you want to just manually, you can transfer the file using the method of copy paste...

  • Transfer large files from an old computer to a new one

Recently, I bought a computer and I want to transfer large files (ranging from 5 GB to 8 GB) to the new computer of the former, on what they are. I tried to put them on a USB stick 32 GB, but the thing does not accept files greater than 4 GB. I'm really frustrated and I need help to transfer these files.

You can format your USB to allow him to manage larger files.  Here's how:

    1. Plug the USB on any computer
    2. Press +E on the keyboard to open the file Explorer.  Go to the 'Computer' or 'This PC' section.
    3. Right click on the USB key and choose the Format
    4. Choose the NTFS file system type from the menu drop down and use the option "quick format".

      * WARNING: All DATA on the USB key will definitely be deleted.* *.

    5. Click OK and confirm that you want to erase all data on the USB key.

Once completed, you can then use the USB to transfer your files.

  • How to transfer a file of account to another account?

I deleted my cause account he had some problems anyway, I deleted my administrator account and since I saved my files to account to the administrator, all of the documents, Favorites, music, etc. (with a value of 15 GB) I want to know how to transfer them to my account. Help?

Treat the situation as if you have a corrupted user profile: fix this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profileuse.  If that is the only available Administrator Profile (you need to be an administrator to fix this), enable the Hidden Administrator Account (HAA) using http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords&p=1&tid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055&mid=d20f9db4-7b2c-48be-a087-7835dc2a9055.  If you don't remember the password, try nothing because that's probably what you (or seller) did during the installation.  When you transfer the files, only forward those that relate to your old user profile (unless you want to transfer more - it is you).

Once that is done, don't forget to disable the HAA to save it in case it is necessary once again and for safety reasons (since people often try to hack into systems using this account).  Do NOT use the HAA as your administrator account because if you lose the only administrator on the system account or it is damaged again, then you're watered.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • What I can or cannot save video cassettes in stereo, transfer mp3 files, in Windows 7

I want to transfer old tapes into mp3 files, but my os is Windows 7, the Audacity is not compatible with.

In addition, the Realtek audio driver does not provide for a 'line' of entry for the 3.5 jack, I have the Platinum to cassettes.

My hardware only has a mic, not separate "line."

    Should I give up?

    http://Audacity.sourceforge.NET/Download/Windows

I'm looking for right at this page on the Audacity website; He reminded me that I don't actually use Audacity to create mp3s - encoder mp3 LAME (!) option is not the best in my opinion... I use the converter file sound switch NCH (free version) to create mp3 files, after that I used Audacity to create wav. vinyl or tape source files and I have had no problems with one of these.

I think your inability to get the sound through the recording in audacity's going to be a matter of adjustment. I lost my signal inadvertently change something and then I had to retrace my steps to get it back again! And things will probably be a little different on your Sony to my Dell, but I'll try and set up a few steps to try and just hope they work for you... R

  • Transfer of files from Windows 98 to Windows 7 machine

I have an old PC running Windows 98.  I have a new laptop (PC) running Windows 7.  I want to transfer my old files off my old PC on my new PC front of decommissioning of the old PC.

Both computers are connected to a Netgear wireless router.
I tried to place a home network and the working group. which allows me to access another computer on Windows 7. I tried to do the same on the PC of Windows 97. The video on the site of Microsoft shows how proceed for Win NT, but not 98 - it was not quite successful.
    • I ping the windows 7 PC the PC Windows 98.  I can't ping the Windows 98 PC of PC Windows 7
    • Or PC can see each other on the home network
    • The 98 machine is not a location for Ethernet cable only a USB
    • I can't get the drivers for flash on Win 98 machine memory have so rule as a pragmatic option.
    • I have a spare hard drive, but the 98 machine could not find a driver to make.
I would be really grateful if someone could suggest (in simple easy to follow terms that I am no expert) how can I solve this problem
    Best regards
    Alan

7 to 98 ping failed mainly because the firewall on 98 is fairly rudimentary and rejects the ping requests. Try disabling the firewall on the PC 98 and try again. Firewall control is in the Panel.

On the part of PC 98 on the directories containing files with full sharing permission. Security can be full access while you make the transfer.

On the PC, open the Run dialog box and type 7 ------IPAddress 98 PC then OK. The PC should open with the visible actions. Open the actions and try to copy the files.
