Transparent gradient adjustment layer

I would like to create an adjustment layer (so I can tweak easily later) which creates the exact same effect as a tool of gradient in the following example.  I for the life of me can not understand how to do, maybe it is just not possible...

Using the tool gradient to create a mask, I can easily achieve this (note the gradient fades the image but maintains a transparent background):mirror-transp.png

Using a gradient adjustment layer I am forced to choose a color (transparent white) and I get this:

mirror-white.png

I want than the previous (bland transparent) so I can easily fall on any background color later, but I want later so that I can easily adjust the % of fade eventually.

Is there a way to make a gradient in transparent fade adjustment layer?  I thought that it would accomplish may be a combination of the mixing layer, but have not been able to understand.  I try to keep things simple, but it's ok if the solution is a bit complicated because I intend to automate it in action that will apply to dozens, maybe hundreds of images.

There is a way without resorting to dynamic objects.

There is between these two layers clipping mask. This goal is achievable by alt clicking on between the two layers, or the shortcut Alt G command. Transparency would then become dynamic to some opacity is set for the gradient. Its solid to transparent gradient

My company has just upgraded us to cs5 on our macs. I've been working along in photoshop and do not know if I hit something inadvertently or what, but all of a sudden I can't add a black transparent gradient to a layer mask. Ive searched autour similarly saved out and reloaded the gradients of my pc (which has the black to transparent gradient in the gradient editor & the process works very well).

I guess my questions would be how could you make a transparent gradient, or how would call a zero gradients by default because every time I have remove all the gradients to add a new file .grd of my pc, it shows not yet degraded.

  • Apply the transparent gradient at the edges of the picture

I found that I can apply a fade by using the transparent gradient tool, and dragging the image.  Works very well, but I can apply only bland next to the photo. If I try to do the other side of the picture, the previous fade is canceled.  I have to save the edited photo and redo tool degraded at the other side of the peak and so on.  Goal is to apply a uneven fade to transparency on the edges of the image.   I also tried the background Eraser, the results were not great - seems to leave a lot of pixels behind.  Is there a way to do it-without repeatedly discoloration on one side, economy, erasing a side, backup, etc...?

    An even easier method (CS5):

Make your selection of what you want to keep using the marquee tool, or through a series of Select menu options (- change the border (lg) - change the pen (sm) - reverse).

    Choose Select - refine edges...

    Before you click OK:

    (1) adjust the slider to feather (large)

    (2) set the edge (left)

    (3) choose output: as a layer mask

    (4) adjust if necessary

Click OK , and there you go. Ready to Place it in another photo or on a background where it can be transformed free to meet your needs.

If you choose call settings before you click OK once you have understood what you like then it will be even easier again the next time that you need to do.

  • Is there an equivalent for Photoshop adjustment layer masks After Effects?

I have a clip showing the clouds in a blue sky and the Valley in the bluish shade, and I want to darken the blues of the sky without affecting the Valley. Effects such as Hue/Saturation or curves produce good results on the sky, but apply to the entire composition.

In Photoshop I would just do something like painting a gradient on the adjustment layer mask, but I don't see an equivalent in after effects CC2015.2 and wonder if I forgot something. Pointers?

Mast track controls are in the Modes Panel. The second icon in the lower left corner of the timeline will reveal the switches and modes column in the timeline panel, or you can press F4 to switch between them. If the second icon is not selected, then you should also see a switch at the bottom of the column switches switches/Modes.

Here's how I would setup a colour correction in this train yard shot to put a glance Kodachrome faded on the bottom of the frame without turning the yellow sky.

  • Problems with adjustment layer masks

I have serious problems with adjustment layer masks. I have converted a photo black and white usiing one adjustment layer and trying to return to colored eyes. My form tool is selected, the color black is my first plan and target my layer mask. Coloring on the contour of the eyes a brownish/sepia-like color is revealed instead of blue (the color of the eyes). When I on the skin a reddish colour. In this case on THREE platforms... PSE6 CS3 AND CS5.5.

I have reset my tools. Close the program. Uninstalled and reinstalled twice (PSE6 and CS3). And you have installed a trial version and reset preferences in CS5.5 (just to see if I could overcome my problem). I also reset the default preferences in CS5.5.

Recently, I uninstalled a trial version of PSE10 (a week ago give or take and I think that I have chosen to remove preferences... do not know well).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, I figured that the surrounding grayish area would give the impression that the color of the skin is too orange/high heat, and without external tone, the eye color looks different.

Katherine, take a piece of paper, make a big hole like brush strokes and place it on the corrected image. This is not the colors are the same as on the image corrected, now? (Well, there should be a gray piece of paper to get exactly the same result)

It's an optical illusion, like this: http://capslove.wordpress.com/2009/11/20/optical-illusion/ where the eyes of the same color green or cyan according to its surrounding areas. Your mind compensates for the colors and the tricks you into believing that they are different in picture one / two, skin color lighter and less saturated than in your second picture image.

Knowing this, you can use another adjustment layer, to drive the color where you want (to the soft blue brighter, more saturated) or skin made down the color that appears too bright.

If the other members of the forum are not paid in graphic design and the influence of surrounding the optical tricks colors/classic, it doesn't surprise me that they are consistent with the description you give, especially if you do ask them 'the skin looks too orange.

This is why it is recommended to have a photo studio (or the room in what you use Photoshop) with gray walls, why Photoshop interface is neutral blue-grey and not bright pink, etc.

(If you work on a Pc, select a black theme without transparency for Vista/7, or on a mac, select the choice of interface of graphite, as it could also mislead you.)

Some use a grey full desktop picture.

    Thanks for the props, guys!

  • Adjustment layer

Why is that when I create an adjustment layer (drop shadow, inner glow, gradient overlay ect.) the next adjustment of the layer I create has the same settings of layer than the previous layer settings...

I think you need to uncheck Use Global light to the right where it says Angle in your screenshot.

  • Adjustment layer is a white solid

I have a very strange problem by adding an adjustment layer, that I can't solve. I have added layers of control thousands of times, but have never had this happen. I'm using CS5 and in one of my compositions when I add an adjustment layer it appears as a solid instead of the usual white completely transparent adjustment layer. Even when I copy and paste an adjustment layer that appears correctly another layer, glued one includes in the same way and becomes simply a solid white. I left AE just to see if it was weird hiccups, but this comp them has similarly.

Everyone knows this? Anyone know what is happening?

Make sure that adjustment layer icon is enabled. Adjustment layers are solid white until the switch is thrown.

If you get a solid white when you add a new adjustment layer and then I would leave, trash your preferences and restart.

    It's the small half circle...

  • How to create a transparent gradient?

I use Photoshop Elements 8.  This could have a very simple answer, but I can't understand it.  I'm trying to take a layer and simply get a solid image to a transparent gradient, while it disappears gradually.  It's hard to explain, but I hope you understand.  Please let me know if you know how to do this.  Thanks to a bouquet.

    -TitanVex

It would look somewhat like this:

    IIIIIIIIII IIII II I I I I

    IIIIIIIIII IIII II I I I I

    IIIIIIIIII IIII II I I I I

    ^                                      ^

    Solid picture

    Part of gradually

    Picture disappears

    If that makes sense.

Is that what you are looking for?  I used the method of Group of clipping that mentioned Terri.

1 added an empty layer below the photo layer and grouped the 2 layers.

2 set the gradient options: linear, to the first plan of Transparent

    3. calls on the gradient of approximately 1/4 from the edge left completely to the right edge.

You can continue to draw the gradient with different staart and endpoints until you get the desired result. Just a matter of trial and error.

I added the white layer so that you can see the results.

  • Can you make an adjustment layer affect only specific layers?

I would like to use adjustment layers to assign some layers in my project, but not to have them change each layer under.  Is there a way to make a layer of ajudstment only affect a specific layer (or layers)?

    Thank you.

To make an adjustment layer affect only the layer directly beneath it, press and hold the

ALT, then move the cursor between the adjustment layer and the underlying layer. When the pointer changes to two overlapping circles, click.
This will use transparency of the underlying layer as a mask for the effect. In other words, it will apply only the adjustment to the underlying layer.

    Cheers, Craig

    Hi Craig,.

Please provide a detailed account of your question. You, the efforts are very much appreciated!

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to solve the problem. However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    a. you did any important changes made to the computer just before the problem occurred?

    b. what fixit did you run, when you say "Run FIXIT"?

You have tried most of the linear troubleshooting, it can be concluded that the question could arise also following a conflict of third-party software that impede the performance of Adobe Photoshop CC. To diagnose the problem, I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

It is possible that the application has not been uninstalled properly and have hampered after the new installation. I suggest to try to start the next fixit and then try to install the program Photoshop CC.

The problems that the programs cannot be installed or uninstalled

If the problem persists, try the following method.

    Method 2:

The question could also arise due to a conflict of third-party software, so, I would be as you suggest clean boot of the system once and then try to install the program in a boot environment.

Place your system in the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

If the problem does not occur in the boot, you can determine which applications and services on the computer is causing this issue.

Note: See "how to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need more help, we will be happy to help you.

  • Creation of adjustment layer - Alt keys not working CC 2015.5

When adding an adjustment layer icon in the layers panel using the 'Alt' key closes the choice rather than to name the adjustment layer and add a mask.  I set the preferences automatically create a mask, and let me quote the layer.

Why the key 'Alt' functioning as is not described?

    What is the solution?

    Hi Fred

So are the ways that I can get the name box to appear (on CC2015.5):

    All first using menus
    a. click Layer

    b. left click - new adjustment layer

    c. click appropriate adjustment layer type

    d. layer naming dialog appears

    Secondly, using the settings panel

alt - left click on the settings icon.

    b. layer naming dialog appears

Third using the icon create new fill or adjustment layer in the layers panel

    a. press the Alt key and keep it is pressed

    b. right click on the "create new fill or adjustment layer icon" and the button right mouse down

    c. move the mouse over the type of adjustment layer in the menu

    d. release the right mouse button

    e. layer naming dialog appears

    f. release the ALT key.

It would be good that you could try the third

  • New adjustment layer > Hue/Saturatin...unavaible

I'm trying this procedure that was created using an earlier version of Photoshop.
Guide the Starizona in respect of CCD for imaging

I have 2015.5 and am new to PS I'm stuck under the titles of section "Adjustment layers".
"Make sure that the layer of H-alpha is the active layer by clicking on it in the layer window.  Select layer > new adjustment layer > Hue/Saturation, or click the new layer of setting at the bottom of the layer window and select Hue/Saturation. »

Hue/Saturation is not an option to select for me. I guess a small change was made to PS over the years and miss me a simple step. Can someone help me?

The drop down menu is blocks what type of file you have open, but it looks like an image in grayscale, and these features are not available for shades of gray.

  • Ultrakey does does not work with an adjustment layer?

Hello! I use Ultrakey on an adjustment layer but it just the background turns off and does not have the image on the layer down to get through everything. If I place the Ultrakey effect directly on the video, it works fine. Ultrakey does does not work with an adjustment layer?

    Thank you

    Monty

Nope! Ultra key must be applied directly to a clip, so you can tell which pixels to taste. He can't taste what's below on another clip. As stabilizer of Warp, component repair rolling stock and some others must be applied directly to the clips.

  • Add adjustment layer auto-correspondant to the project timeline

I have often color only after I cut the clips and put them on the collation sequence. The sequence is usually 2-3mins long and 1 small thing but annoying is that adding an adjustment layer (sliding on the timeline), it creates a s 1 layer on a separate track.

It's counterproductive, because I need to zoom and stretch the layer by myself to align with the main video track. I did the steps wrong or is it supposed to be like this? How can I do this step faster?

    Thank you.
