try to play a DVD on my Windows XP Tablet
I had a big problem and had again with Windows XP and all the drivers etc on my tablet. He's got an Iomega CD-RW/DVD-ROM connected via a USB cable. I reinstalled the Iomega CD which includes CinePlayer, but I have a question. I can't play any DVD. If I try to play a DVD, Windows Media Player opens and then one of these 2 boxes pop up. Don't know which box appears first or when these jumps, but I got the two while playing with it to try to make it work:
BOX 1 says The CinePlayer decoders have not yet been activated. You must activate the product before use. Please run the player which included these encoders in order to activate the product.
BOX 2 says that Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because no compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer (this could be before I installed it)
What should I do? I have no idea.
Don't know what made me think of this, but it seems to have solved this problem. My Microsoft Security Essentials has been conclusive and invites me to block certain programs, Win32/PowerRegScheduler after that I ran this for Cineplayer installation disc. But this time I selected allow in the action drop down and now my DVD can be read. When I put the first DVD in the drive, there is now a box wondering what steps to take. On the list were movie play in Windows Media Player, movie play in Cineplayer, do nothing or some other choice. I selected the Cineplayer element and check the always take this Action. And he opened the movie on DVD! Cool!

copy a group of photos w/music (Smilebox program) on dvd;
After following the instructions of SMilebox to burn "images set to music" on DVD, to the attempt of DVD playback, I got following error message: Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of the world. You must obtain a disc that is intended for your geographic region. We live in the Washington area. I didn't know that DC was considered an unusual geographic region?
Hey nongeekbetty,
The DVD is encoded for a different region. Most DVD readers only works with DVDs that are coded for the computer was purchased in the same region. So if you buy a DVD in one country and then try to play on one computer from another country this DVD could not play.
Step 1:
Make sure that the DVD region is set to the appropriate region:
a. Click Start.
(b) in the search box, type Device Manager.
c. right-click on the DVD drive.
d. right-click on it and select Properties.
e. make sure that the region will be resolved.
For your information:
Step 2:
Also temporarily disable User Account Control (UAC) and check it out.

Note: Activate it once you are done with the check.

After download of Internet Explorer 8 I now get a decoder error when you insert a DVD and Media Center.
