Try to recover Windows.old files for Microsoft Office applications

I did a reinstall of Vista on my Dell laptop.  Previously, I did a clean install on XP to upgrade to Vista on a Dell Inspiron E1705.  Of course the Windows.old is still there on my C: / drive. I want to use my Office12 MS of the .old file; because I lost my installation disc.  I tried to copy the file on the desktop, on the advice of another Q & A forum.  It will not always open files.  What does the error "operating system is not currently configured to run this application" mean?

    5. If it still does not work, try to open all or part of your MS Office applications (such as MS Word, MS Excel, etc.).
    6. follow steps 3-4.

Also have a related problem about MS Maliciouws software removal tool. For download, but read in the KB that: in XP, the vacuum cleaner will remove the malware, but doing so may trigger the File Protection Win with damages to my operating system.  the tool will attempt to repair the damage, but to rehabilitate prior to infection, that I need to insert the CD of Win. As my computer came with Windows preinstalled, I do not have a disk and will not take the risk of damage, that I can't fix. Do I not download or not... ? Another solution... ?  I also fear that this tool could settle into the routine Win Update and need guidance on the prevention of this facility, if possible, or what to do if it cannot be prevented.

It can have nothing to do with any of the foregoing. Hello

    ·         You have Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer?

If you have windows installed on your computer security essentials, then you will not be able to install Windows defender. Windows Security Essentials has antispyware component installed.

You get the error because you have installed MS Security Essentials, which has its own function to antimalware. You don't need or want to install Windows Defender, too. Leave MS Security Essentials installed and do not turn it off.

  • When I try to copy a single file (for example: size of 1 GB) drive hard to any what external memory device via the USB port, the copy process takes several hours to complete

I use a DELL Studio 15 laptop computer. When I try to copy a single file (for example: size of 1 GB) hard drive to any external memory device (for example: USB key or external hard drive) via the port USB, the copy process takes several hours to complete. • I get a widow in my lower toolbar that rpet low disk space, and when I click it to try to delete the old files, it does nothing... so what do I do... ?

I get a window in my toolbar lower repeating me low disk space and when I click it to try to remove the old files, it does nothing... so what should I do to get rid of the files in a "D" file...?

Please perform these steps and the back of the report.

Click Start, click computer, and it will display your hard drives and their letters. Normally C: is your operating system and where everything is stored (user: files, programs, Documents, photos, etc.). The D: is your RECOVERY partition and contains a copy of the first installation of the plant. The D: is small, about 9 to 15 GB, depending on the version of Windows.

For example, my C: displays 306 GB free (unused) 374 GB (hard disk capacity). D: shows 2.11 free 11.5 GB GB. This is normal for HP, Compaq and others. New HP (Win 7) include an E: with less than 1 GB of capacity, to store a program utility tools. These so-called hard disks are in fact partitions installed on a physical hard disk, but not to concern. The c: partition free space is your important answer. BeAware that the D: and E: (if you have the configuration described above, are never to be used as restore points, or your personal files, they are allocated by the manufacturer to support the reinstallation of the operating system.) My example shows that my C: partition made only 68GB used on the disc, 306 GB is free (unused) 374 GB capacity.

    (1) report with numbers, and you can be helped.

    (2) Vista writes copies ghosts of all your documents (previous versions of the files). These can take many GB.

    (3) when he gets less than 20 percent free, you start to have problems with the disk defragmentation. Less than 10% results in critical problems, the problems of performance and for the worse.

    (4) if the number of free GB is really a low disk space issue, you need to move some of the large data files (pictures, videos,...) out on CD or DVD.

If it helps, let me know. I'm not a moderator, just a user trying to use simple language to help others.

I bet that if you check the size of the file that has been downloaded it will be probably very small, indicating that it was not downloaded correctly.

I don't think you have another computer at hand, or a friend with a USB key which may be able to download and copy it for you?  Maybe burn it to a CD or something.
