Trying to open it in windows media player instead

I don't know how it happened, but almost every icon on my desktop has changed the logo of windows media player and everthing I click trys to load into windows media rather than the appropriate format player. For example, if I click on what would normally be the icon of firefox, Windows Media PLayer pops up saying, 'Windows Media Player cannot play this file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. »

How to get everything back to normal and download Mozzilla Firefox, as well as all other programs, appears instead of Windows Media Player?

Hi Kale222,

A. when it last work very well?

B. recent changes made on your computer?

C. the situation is the same when you try to open as soon as > all programs?

Method 1

Try to run the Microsoft fixit who can make changes in the registry automatically. Open the link below and click it on the fixit button.

Note: You may need to restart the computer to restore the icons of the programs to their original appearance.

Important:
this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Method 2

If the problem is newer, you can perform a restore of the system on your computer. You can choose an earlier date on which your computer was working fine.

I hope this helps.
