  • I'm trying to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, with all updates.

    original title: sharing fails file of Windows XP Home edition

    I'm trying to migrate from W2K to Windows XP Home edition (Pro/SP3 with all current updates from today ' hui).  My network has several computers with the help of a working group.  I noticed that WXP defines what is called "Simple file sharing" (SFS) that did not exist in W2K.  However, I think that my W2K installation was equivalent to what we call SFS.  What I shared with readers and only granted the permission reading for everyone.  My migration technique involves the use of multiple bootable media to create the Windows XP Home edition system without changing anything on W2K systems.  The I want to share files on separate partitions of the system drive / start / we.  These data partitions are the same drive letters on all systems.  Sharing works as expected in all cases, except that the new system of Windows XP Home edition won't file to other systems (clients).  All client systems receive the same result which is a message access denied as follows:

    \\computer_name\share_name is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  ...

    Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

    On the new system that is unable to use the files, the event log contains a message that says the following:

    The "irpstacksize" server configuration setting is not enough for the server to use a local device.  Please increase the value of this parameter.

    I found a number of items on this site about IRPStackSize.  An inspection of all computers reveals this registry key is not set on any of my systems.  This includes the W2K running on the same computer systems that are capable of serving the same files that fail on Windows XP Home edition, with no problems.  Any of those articles gives no justification for what is an appropriate use for the IRPStackSize value.  Moreover, some articles describe a situation where arbitrarily increase the size works for a short period, but does not seem to be a sustainable solution.  In addition, there is a range of valid values, and some articles describe that max is achieved without solving the problem.

    Therefore, I am skeptical about the idea that there is a real solution.  Can anyone provide an explanation on why specifying a key IRPStackSize is going to help (or not)?  If Yes, what is the right value?

  • HP1000-1318TU recovery trouble after trying to downgrade from windows 8 for windows 7

    Hi, I'm currently facing serious trouble now... I was downgrade to windows 8 for windows 7...

    laptop format was completely understand the recovery partition... it is now TOTALLY EMPTY...

    the main point is, I lost my disc of recovery for the laptop!

    NO RECOVERY DISK, NO RECOVERY PARTITION! Oh my god...

    is there a way to install the OS in this laptop now?

    Hello:

    Using a good installation disc known to W7?

    Normally, this error means that you have corrupted/damaged installation media.

    See if it works to install W7...

    Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed - 32 or 64 bit depending on the case).

    https://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?AGR=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+RAPI...

    Extract the files on a usb flash drive.

    With the flash player and the installation of W7 media connected to the computer, boot from the installation of W7 media.

    After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

    You should now see the storage driver files listed.

    If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

    Follow the prompts and see if W7 install like this.

  • While trying to upgrade from Windows ME to Windows XP, you receive error - i386\WIN9XUPG\W95UPG. DLL.

    I want to upgrade a Compaq Presario 17XL360 Windows ME to Windows XP Professional, but no other solution I tried other forums worked to resolve the error message about missing file i386\WIN9XUPG\W95UPG. DLL. I don't have Roxio Easy CD Creator installed (a possible cause) and I tried end task on all except Windows Explorer and Systray (another recommended solution). I read that can be installed with 64 MB of RAM, I have, so I want to try to solve this problem without having to install more RAM, as I am trying to upgrade this computer at a lower cost to make a donation to a member of the family abroad.

    Thanks for your suggestion! You will see above, I tried but I didn't have the Roxio Easy CD Creator software in my computer. However, I found the solution. My mistake was trying to install Windows XP Professional as an upgrade, which did not.

    So I finally found a suggestion online that does not work.
    (1) I rebooted and selected "Press any key to boot from the CD" (something like that!) and installed Windows XP Pro as a new program.
    (2) I followed the instructions in the readme file, and when I got to the question of the partitions, I deleted the two existing partitions (one was where the old Windows ME operating system, and the other was a program 'system'.
    (3) after the removal of two partitions, I created a new one, following the instructions written in the installer and install Windows XP without problem.
    (4) Note: when trying to install XP as an upgrade and get the error above concerning the missing file and the cancellation, the computer still gave me the option to click "install". I tried a few times and each time, he told me that my product key is not valid. However, when I installed it as a new program, all installed easily and he accepted my product key invalid. So people, don't believe the message 'invalid' immediately, you can also have a valid product key.

    BUT I'll have to give in and buy more RAM, because I had only 64 MB and I need 256. Evidence? My first installation of the Norton Antivirus software, and then it was slowing my computer to a crawl. I'm trying to uninstall it now, and it takes a long time. Tomorrow I'll determine exactly what to buy and install.

    I hope this helps others solve this error - the support person level 2 Tech I contacted HP support earlier told me that they have the expertise to solve the problem. You can do it!

  • Trouble trying to change from Windows Vista to Windows XP Home Edition.

    I have Windows Vista on my desktop.  I don't like it and I try to install Windows XP Home Edition.  I was able to get support.  When I insert the disk and select "run setup.exe" a "User Account Control" screen will appear (I've tried everything I know to disable this function, but also any virus protection software, but I didn't get it.  After I selected "Allow" on the selection of the user the "Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP" screen arrives, but the "Install Windows XP" option is not highlighted, so I can't select it.  Please notify.

    You can boot from the XP CD and do a clean install.

    You should also check that you can get the XP drivers for the computer. If this isn't the case, you're stuck with Vista or Windows 7.

  • Trying to recover a Windows 8 compatible USB flash drive

    Can someone help me please? I think that I have a hard drive failure or a fault. It specifies the drive name: TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050 and C:\;D:\ volume. I have a HP Pavilion Sleekbook with windows 8.1 14 TS (I upgraded from the Windows 8 which came with the laptop) and I unconsciously created a recovery image on a USB compatible of Windows 8 successfully when I lived already problems with my portable hard drive. Later, I discovered that it is not recommended to create a recovery image on a USB compatible of windows 8. I hope to just get back to factory settings and wipe out all my files if it can help me my laptop in working condition I have already backed up my important documents to USB. My next question is 1.) The recovery image that I created with the usb it's 8 compatible windows won't work if I try to do a factory reset? 2.) the recovery image I created everything with the mistakes already, will be technically 'clean', which means he has everything needed for a laptop running once I replace my hard drive or perform recovery with hard flow drive up? (3.) I will be able to restore from the recovery partition? or affect the hard drive failure that animate as well? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance to those who can help me.

    Note: my USB flash drive is also compatible with windows 8 AND 7. Is it possible to transfer only in just a usb compatible windows 7 if I encounter problems because of the compatibility of windows 8 flash player, I used for the creation of recovery image. Thank you.

    The question of compatibility you're talking about is one where many flash drives are seen as a local instead of removable storage disk - and HP Recovery Manager wouldn't use it to create a recovery media. Since you were able to create your USB support has been recognized as compatible for use. You should be fine with recovery use.

    Follow the directions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 and now I have a new problem. I did just like the directions say. I deleted the registry files existing and then copied the registry files to restore the system in the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder. I typed "exit" to exit the recovery console.

    At this point, the computer proceeded to reboot... exceeded the screen where Windows XP then care received it!

  • Trying to recover from a disaster

    It is difficult to explain... the entire chain of disasters, largely due to bad practices. I'd appreciate a lot of help

    We (really, we had...) a server Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 6 databases running on it. We did backups RMAN bands to each other using Symantec Netbackup. The script was like this:

    RUN {}
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE ';
    BACKUP
    BACKUP %
    FORMAT ' bk_u % u_s % s_p % p_t % you
    DATABASE;
    SQL 'alter system archive log current';
    OUTPUT CHANNEL ch00;
    # Backup all archive logs
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE ';
    BACKUP
    FILESPERSET 20
    FORMAT ' arch-s % s-p % p'
    REMOVE ALL ARCHIVELOG ENTRY;
    OUTPUT CHANNEL ch00;
    # Backup control files
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE ';
    BACKUP
    FORMAT "ctrl_u % u_s s_p p_t %t % %.
    CURRENT CONTROLFILE;
    OUTPUT CHANNEL ch00;
    }

    Last week the server crashed down, due to problems of phisycal on hard drives, and we could not get it to the top. Then restore the databases from scratch since the backup tapes that we have.
    We had the RMAN catalog on the same server database... so we lost too much and we can't use ir to restore.
    We cannot use the dbid because we don't know them and we cannot see them on the server.
    In order to obtain the control files of the backup, another way to restore of databases, we reviewed documentation and it says it takes to use the name of the control file. The control file name problem is the same in all databases, so RMAN always return the last database saved file.
    Perhaps the first thing to do is to restore the database with RMAN, but I don't ' know if it is possible in this situation.

    To will be appreciated. Thank you very much

    Hello
    Now, I understand your question. It seems that the format for the controlfile doesn't generate the same name.

    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 7340032 jul 10 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.
    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 7340032 jul 10 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.
    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 7340032 jul 10 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.
    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 9175040 Jun 09 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.
    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 8650752 Jun 09 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.
    -rw - SYSTEM SYSTEM 7340032 Jun 09 12 ctrl_us_pt:------.

    You can try to restore the controlfiles from backup items.
    as:

    RUN {}
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch00 TYPE 'SBT_TAPE ';
    RESTORE CONTROLFILE to ' / tmp/test_1.ctl ' to 'bk_uh9mh1p66_s553_p1_t756081862 ';
    OUTPUT CHANNEL ch00;
    }

    Only songs that contain the system01.dbf will have a backup controlfile so (if controlfile autobackup is off) so try several pieces.
    Here some results a test of a bunch of restoration by using the above script.

    If the piece has no controlfile:
    - - - -
    From restoration to 19 - AUG - 2011:15:51:40

    channel tc1: restoring controlfile
    output channel: tc1
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: = ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =.
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of the restore command to 2011-08-19 15:53:28
    ORA-19615: some files not found in the backup set
    ORA-19613: datafile 0 not found in the backup set

    - - - -
    If the room contains a controlfile:

    From restoration to 19 - AUG - 2011:15:55:03

    channel tc1: restoring controlfile
    channel tc1: full restoration
    Finished restoring to 19 - AUG - 2011:15:55:18
    - - - -
