Turn off laptop monitor. How is it reset?

Apparently, I turned the monitor on my laptop by using the graphical controls (right click on an empty area of the windows). How can that be reset because I can't see the windows more? The sys is Win 7 and the computer is a Dell Inspiron 17R.

Thanks for the reply.
Earlier, I had it reset back to the last usable boot, so I don't have to try your solution.

  • Turn off the monitor and input block

    Hello

I am trying to create simple VI that will turn off the monitor (or screen saver turns on) and entrance to block mouse and keyboard - user so won't be able to see the screen and do any action. I use system32.dll for this.

My problem is that when my VI turn off the monitor, user can enable it back by simply moving the mouse or using the keyboard, similarly as these devices are blocked (by the function BlockInput of System32.dll).

How can I do the ultimate freeze?

Attached VI is based on Danny_Funk 'disable the monitor.vi.

    Dear bieneck,

This is a very interesting problem you have there. I was snooping around Microsoft technical support for a bit, and the only reasonably simple method, I found was running powercfg.exe from an elevated line comand. You can query wake programmable devices with powercfg - devicequery wake_programmable poster theand disable using "Your device name" powercfg - devicedisablewake. Here you can find a more detailed documentation.

Except that I have found no reliable method that will spare you excessive digging in the registry. Maybe some 3 rd party tool?

One more thing: If your goal is to prevent the user from interacting with anything, it would be easier to make up a large modal window that does not workaround? At least, it seems to me that it is much simpler to use a native Windows function that is not provided for this purpose.

  • Windows 7 double monitors - turn off a monitor causes Office to reorganize resulting in substantial losses of productivity.

I have 2 monitors connected to a card nVidia FX 580 running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. A monitor is linked via DVI and the other through DP (Display Port).

If I turn off the monitor of the RFP, I hear the windows sound indicating the material has been "deleted." When I turn on the monitor, I hear the sound of new hardware, windows re - detects the monitor as if I just installed it and my layout any icon on the desktop and all the windows, I had open are then all rearranged and takes a long time, re-organization to come back to where I was.

I leave my PC on 24 hours a day for several reasons - and for years have always just had my monitors turned off when you are not using it.

I need to be able to turn off my monitors without windows deciding that I "removed" a monitor.

I work for a software company of medical imaging, where we provide the complete hardware and software solutions for use in radiology departments in hospitals. These systems are usually 3 or 4 connected monitors, all via DP these days. Due to the possibility of the desktop users get messed up, if they happen to turn off a monitor, we can not install systems with Windows 7.

While many may see this as nothing more then a disadvantage, it is a show-stopper as what we concerned. Yet as I have not found a viable solution to this problem.

So here's the question: how to disable this new behavior in Windows 7 and allow him to understand that the monitor has not gone away and that the Office should not be changed simply because the monitor is off?

    Thank you.

I wrote a small utility to fix this problem. It is still very thrown together, but Open source, so you can compile sources if you have security problems.

I hope it works for you!

my intranet connection was turned off the coast how I turn it back on? (or my wireless connection)  I tried to click the wifi icon but it just says that it is not connected.

    Hi karmahome,

    Follow these steps:

    1. click on the button "Start" and then click on the "Control Panel" icon in the start menu.

    2. click on the link "switch to category view" in the left pane of the Control Panel window if the window is not already assigned to the category view. You will see the 'network connections' icon in the right pane. Double-click this icon to open the network connections window.

3 right-click on the icon of the adapter wireless network in the network connections window, then click the "Properties" link in the context menu. This opens the wireless network connection control panel.

    4. click on the "wireless networks" tab in the wireless network connection control panel. Check the box 'use Windows to configure my wireless network'.

    5. click on the 'OK' button in the wireless network connection control panel.

  • Light (switch) on my screen does not turn off. I have to shut my computer down several times a day to turn off the monitor.

Light (switch) on my screen does not turn off.  So, I shut down my computer and restart several times a day, because when I put it in mode 'sleep', he wakes to the top in a few minutes and will not fall asleep.  I could put a blanket on my screen when not in use, but I'd rather find a way to make it stay asleep when I tell him.

Light (switch) had already done once before and I was so worried that once I turned off the monitor that I would never get it new on... a bit short of money here, to buy a new monitor, but the next day, I pressed the power button with an additional downward pressure and I could so he could start working again (able to turn the market monitor).  It was about 3 weeks ago.  Now, the light stays green, unless I stop the whole computer.

Maybe my main problem is sleep mode, which removes the screen for like 2 minutes and then he wakes up to the top and is so rude when I myself and try to sleep, I just turn off the monitor everytime I put the computer to sleep.

Now, I can't turn off the monitor, except by turning off the computer.

  • Whenever I have turn off my monitor, and then turn it back on, all my desktop icons are completely reorganized.

This issue just started.  Whenever I have turn off my monitor and then turn it back on, all my desktop icons are completely reorganized.  This happens when my system goes into power saving mode, or whenever I have turn off the monitor.  Even if I turn it back on just 5 seconds later, all of my icons are not where they were previously.  Help!

    Suggestions:

    1 a simple way:
. Right click on desktop > view > uncheck Auto arrange > check snap to grid.

    2. in a more elaborate way and actually a better way. I use this method I have over 150 shortcuts etc on my desk. I can't afford to have shortcuts/icons, rearranging themselves. I won't be able to find anything, if they do.
    Here is the tutorial:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/save-and-restore-desktop-icon-layout-in-Windows-Vista/

Note: The method is not perfect, you can, after a while, have one or 2 icons on the spot. But it's easy to fix.

  • How can I turn off the monitor (e.g., "standby") via the command line at the push of a button (or any other shortcut need not additional software)?

    Hello

I don't like it when, after a break from work on my PC, the screen turns off as set up through "Power Options" in the control panel. That's why I put the relatively high threshold.
However, when I know that I will not need the computer for a while, I want to save energy and wish the mode "sleep" could be activated immediately. Turn off the screen is not an option, because it has a USB hub built-in - off completely would be to unplug any connected device. Usually, if the computer has always works and might need the resources connected.

Ideally, by pressing a button (or start a program or something), the screen would immediately go in mode 'sleep'.

On systems prior to Vista and 7, IIRC, running a command in the sense of:
    Rundll32.exe user32.dll, SendMessage (HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, 2);
would do the trick. The dll should run the command to set the monitor to sleep. We could create a shortcut or even integrate the command in a batch file, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on Vista or 7.

Does anyone have an idea on how to do it on Windows 7?

I would strongly try to avoid having to install any additional software to help me. (There is quite a little all about, even free applications that promise to do exactly that, but I want to avoid them if possible.) "And I can't believe that this basic that could be done on XP cannot act more on 7!).

    Thank you for your help,
    NicApicella

    Hello

Sleep is one thing and switching Off the Display is quite another.

I found a way to turn off the screen in case you don't have a hardware switch or a keyboard shortcut as in my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 7).

Create a batch with the following script file:

    echo off

    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-dc 1
    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-ac 1

    START/min/Wait C:\Windows\System32\scrnsave.scr s

    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-dc m1
    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-ac m2

with the idle time to turn off your screen set in the Control Panel, replace m1 and m2.

Control Panel > Power Options > any 'Active' diet Plan > change Plan settings > disable the display setting (minutes).

    For example, in my computer laptop m1 = m2 = 30 and 10.

Now create a shortcut to the batch file and optionally assign a keyboard shortcut and an icon.

    Explanation of the script:

The first two commands sets the idle time Display Off for the minimum possible setting of 1 Minute for the AC and DC (battery) power. The third command put the system mode blank screen saver 'instantly' and / Wait for the screensaver to terminate application. After 1 minute of inactivity, the monitor turns off power completely.
The Saver screen/Wait is over by the event of the reactivation of a movement of the mouse button, the last two lines of code will come back the idle time-out settings of origin defined in the Panel view. This to ensure that after waking up, the display does not Turn off all 1 minute of inactivity expire.

  • Laptop fell and can't turn off creative cloud, how I can download on a new computer?

Thus, recently, my portable hard drive broke out for unknown reasons. I have my apps creative cloud on my laptop and desktop computers. I want to install creative cloud on my new hard drive, but I don't think I'll be able to because I didn't deactivate the software on my broken laptop. How can I install the CC apps on my new computer without exceeding the limit of 2 devices. Please help because I have to install as soon as I get a new hard drive.

    Hi JoshB6288,

As we know that CC apps can be installed and activated only on both machines. However if for some reason, that your machine is stolen or disk hard crash and you were not able to disable the software even in this case we can still install and activate the software on another machine. What we need to do here is when you try to install the software on the third machine, during the connection phase you enter your identification code adobe that a guest would come in saying your subscription is already activated on both machines, and activation of the subscription on the third machine will disable the other machine two. Just click continue and connect. The subscription will be activated on the third computer and will automatically get disabled from the other two machine in which it has been activated before. You can simply go back to your other computer and connect you to activate the software.

As I explained above, instant Google search is different from the drop-down list of terms key.

Google instant search will reload the page of results as you type. Change the results to the current letters in the search bar. (See screenshot 1)

The drop-down list of terms key is a list of words that Google think that you can be entered. This isn't loading the results page until the user clicks on a Word. (See screenshot 2)
